'Smallville': Tess Mercer, The Savior?

Previously on "Smallville," Clark decided not to condemn Doomsday to a life in the Phantom Zone and Chloe and Davis went on the lam like a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde (TM Travis Tritt).

Tess Mercer
Tonight we have the return of Tess Mercer, intrepid girl reporter. She is writing inflammatory articles about hunting down Davis and hits a nerve when she accuses Clark of not wanting to find Davis because Clark is destined to kill him. It turns out she has assembled a roving band of misfits comprised of Plastique, Neutron, Parasite, Eva and Livewire, which she dispatches to kill Doomsday. When they fail to kill Doomsday (he kills Neutron), Tess kills Livewire and Eva by exploding little GPS devices in their brains. Plastique and Parasite are rescued by Clark and Oliver and taken to a top secret rehab facility.

Clark
Our hero is convinced he can use black kryptonite and the crystal to separate Davis from Doomsday and send only the Doomsday part to the Phantom Zone. Nobody thinks that's a great idea, least of all Tess. When Clark goes to get the crystal, Tess has already destroyed it so that he has no choice but to kill Davis. She tells him the mark of a true hero is someone who sacrifices his own morality to keep the world safe. He says he doesn't get to choose who lives and who dies. She tells him that if everyone was just like him the world would be a better place, but it's out of his hands now. Tess then declares that the entire world's survival depends on Davis's death. It's a nice scene.

Oliver
Rico Suave gets to make passes at Tess all over the place in order to steal the black kryptonite from her safe. He also gets to prance around dressed like an S&M Robin Hood. In the end, he saves Clark from Parasite with Lex Luthor's kryptonite ring and has to confess to killing Lex. Clark and Oliver seem to have a bit of a parting of the ways.

Chloe
I spent half the episode wondering how our little Bonnie & Clyde turned into scared hostage Chloe and being mad that so much happened off-camera. Then it turns out it was actually Eva pretending to be Chloe in order to spy on Clark and I felt much better about things.

In the big last scene, Tess arrives home and tells the Traveler that the crystal has been destroyed. (Is it Gozer the Traveler? Apparently during the rectification of the Vuldrini, the Traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depth of the Slor that day, I can tell you.)

Anyway, the Traveler envelopes Tess in his energy ball and says, "Then you shall be the savior of _____." I tried and tried to figure out what he said, but I couldn't suss it out. Sorry, gang. Can somebody do me a solid in the comments?

Update II: Apparently Clark is the Traveler. I had just assumed by the episode context that the giant ball of energy is the Traveler. The giant ball of energy is, in fact, Dawn Summers. No wait, that's wrong too. The giant ball of energy, I'm told by MB, might be Jorel. I have also now heard talk that it might be Zod.

Update III: the gibberish in the last paragraph is from "Ghostbusters." It popped into my head with all the "traveler" talk.
