'House' The long awaited Huddy kiss
Tonight's episode of House rehashed story lines that were far more interesting during season 3, when Tritter was around to add some suspense to it all and force him to do what he didn't really want to do.
Before I go into my rant, here's the POTW: she's a ballerina who gets dropped by her boyfriend (a male ballet dancer) who has a weak back and a shrill attitude. Then her lungs collapse and they inexplicably can't get them back up again. However, they do manage to make 80% of her skin fall off, so there's that. Also, they stop her heart for an MRI, which shows a shadow. Or an artifact on the monitor. In the end game, it's gonorrhea on her heart - which is discovered by Taub, who also uses a long shot treatment to save her hands and feet from amputation. I know I usually give a bit more info about the POTW and how the case is solved...but honestly? This was a minor part of the show.
OK, I can wait no loner. My rant: is it me, or has this season just been weak sauce for the most part? Sure, there's been some shinning moments, but overall? I'm feeling pretty disappointed, which hurts me to say as I have been a long time fan of House and have never missed an episode. I own all the DVD sets and a couple t-shirts as well. I'm not a moderate fan by any stretch. But tonight was...boring. It felt like the plot was phoned in 40 minutes into the episode. And it was a plot we'd already seen. The short of it is that House is hallucinating because he needs to detox from the Vicodin. Yet, even when he slips up and admits to Wilson that he's hallucinating Amber - it's barely a blip on the radar. Not even Wilson tries to analyze what that means or why House lied to him about it.
Rehab is the last thing House wants to try, really. In fact, he tests for infection, MS and severe mental illness before accepting it's the drugs. The big dramatic gesture is sending himself into insulin shock - which was a treatment used mainly in the 1940's - in order to determine if it really is psychosis. And Amber does disappear for a few hours, but that's hardly a realistic lifestyle option. So, he concludes that it's the Vicodin. I cannot ignore that in order for House to believe that his hallucination is caused by the drug, despite the lack of any other symptoms, he would also need to believe the convulsive therapies had a 100% success rate - or near enough to it. And there is no way that would happen.
House asks Wilson to make arrangements for him to go to rehab. However, partway through packing, he admits that he will cheat (as he did last time) and therefore decides not to go at all. Instead, he returns to the hospital, admits everything to Cuddy and asks her to help him detox. Which can apparently be accomplished overnight. Certainly, medical fallacy has been pointed out on the show before, but one night of sweating, spasming and vomiting does not get you clean enough from an opioid addiction to go back to work the next day.
Of course, he and Cuddy don't actually go back to work. Yes, the moment millions of Huddy fans have been waiting for arrived: he totally pushed her against a wall and made out with her before end credits. And it was HOT. The implication - backed up by the previews for next week - is that they totally get it on. But given that I didn't totally buy House's decision to detox with just Cuddy helping him - with him revealing all his secret stashes and holding her hand all night - I have difficulty believing that they bonded so much over the night-o-detox that they can't keep their hands off each other the next day. It just didn't pack enough umph! for me.
The side story is Cameron's revelation to Chase the she still has her dead husband's forzen sperm. This plot line completely confuses me, because I don't really understand what she wants. Chase says it's a liquid pre-nup in case things don't work out for them, but I am having difficulty wrapping my head around that. Because it makes no sense. She doesn't want kids now but she wants his sperm in case she does want them later but they are divorced? How many men's sperm does she need for her back up plan? There is also the idea that Chase would ask her to ditch the frozen sperm, which Foreman warns could make him worse than the guy that left her as it would make him the guy that killed her theoretical kids. But again, this makes no sense - why does it matter that she has sperm on ice if she isn't planning on using it anytime soon, if at all?
In the end, Chase says he can't do it, because he is sure that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and he will wait for her to be sure too. Did I miss something? Can someone explain any of this to me? Are they not getting married now? And on Huddy - do you buy it? Would you rather Amber have been the result of mini strokes or brain tumors rather than his pill popping? Is anyone else as disappointed as me or are my expectations too high?

Best part for me was the look of complete terror on House's face when his Amber hallucination returned when he was celebrating alone in the restaurant.
Just that one bit of acting from Hugh Laurie overcame any quibbles I had with the storyline.
As a friend used to say, "Fascination beats consumation, hands down." If this re-creates an appropriate wall of employer/employee relationship between House & Cuddy, because he hurts everyone he gets close to (from the preview), this lost season has been worth it.
His Vidodin withdrawal is another issue entirely. Don't they have medical advisors on the show?
The sperm thing was as follows, she has her dead husbands sperm for that day in the future when she decides to have kids. If Chase has her get rid of the sperm, AND THEN leaves her as well, he is not only the bastard who ruined her marriage, but also the one who stopped her from having kids. I thought it was pretty straightforward!
In any case, loved tonight's episode. Sad that "cutthroat *****" will be gone though. I loved her little facial reactions throughout the whole thing! I'll be happy when Taub decides to off himself as well, he is easily the least interesting character out there, and Foreman really needs a shave.
Cuddy and House having sex became pretty obvious when she stayed over to help him out, though I ***umed they would try to pull the old "replace one addiction for another" and he would keep trying to boink Cuddy! I'd love it if that happens!!!
Not to mention the fact that it was explicitly stated that Cameron met and married her husband after he was diagnosed with cancer, so his sperm would probably be too irradiated to freeze.
Jason - I thought he looked not only horrified but despairing too. It was a very well acted moment. He's just better than the script was.
Erinys - I dunno, House has been above and beyond his previous jerktastic/sarcastic self lately - and crossed more than once into the dangerous waters of abusive. Him adding Cuddy to the list of people he mistreats beyond the pale may not be a good solution.
No Name - See, when Chase mentioned a "liquid pre-nup" I had interpreted that to mean that she wanted his sperm as well. Which, in retrospect, is a bit nonsensical given the nature of a pre-nup to begin with. I must have looking for extra intrigue where the was none in an attempt to overlook the sad state of the rest of the story.
lucy - I thought she had said that they froze the sperm before he began treatment.
I liked and believed the Huddy thing. From past conversations as well as tonight's, they've apparently been dancing around this for more than twenty years, not just overnight. It's no Adama/Roslin love story, but for House, it's about as much as he can offer.
It would be awesome if Cuddy became House's new hallucination and he is really by himself imagining everything.
House has gone downhill since season 4. It's only now after all the Survivor crap that it season 5 has just seem to fizzle out.
The writers are so inconsistent with their character plots that it's shameful to watch anymore. Cuddy just seems extremely desperate and weak. I like Cameron and Chase, but their whole relationship seems weird.
Huddy is just too contrived for my tastes. I never liked the idea of House and Cuddy in the first place, but it's just made Cuddy's character less tolerable and wish they would end the storyline already. It's juvenile and sickening to watch.
Where's medicine in this so-called medical drama? It's a bad rip off version of a soap opera.
i think with the whole sperm thing, cam's husband would have frozen it before he began treatment, and cam has said she met him after he was diagnosed... anyway, he would have left her the sperm after he died.
I have to say that I REALLY liked this episode.
I have't liked an episode so much since House's Head which for me is one of the best episodes in the whole series and one of the best season finales ever.
After yesterday's episode I got the feeling that this season's finale might even be better than HH and WH which by the way is a task really difficult to accomplish.
The House and Cuddy hook up was HOT and I hope we get to see what they showed in the promo
