Ericmabius_bunny_290 "Ugly Betty's" return a week early isn't exactly triumphant, but like all things spring, promises growth and new life. And in this case, the harbinger is a pink bunny named Floppy.

Spoilers, like those Easter eggs that were never found.

At What Eggs-pense?

Poor Daniel is doing everything he can, even *gasp* taking the bus to work, but Meade Publications is going down the tubes. At first he hopes to make an investor out of Cal Hartley -- wealthy dad of Betty's bf Matt -- but when he can't get a meeting, he's forced to cut staff, including the fabulously crass Amanda. At a charity event, Betty's tenacity and pleading with Matt finally leads to securing Cal's financial support -- but only after Daniel humiliates himself by donning a pink bunny suit. It turns out, in Matt's own words, that Mr. Hartley is Satan.

Betty and Matt (Matty? Batt? Betthew?) are just so darn sweet, they're more real than Splenda. He's pampering her with Limo Tuesday and dangling Submarine Thursday as a carrot. Of course, the journey to love is not smooth because of all the construction, so there's a bit of hitch when Betty tries to secure Daniel that investor meeting with Matt's dad. Matt refuses twice, drawing a firm line between who he is as a person and who he is as a connection to his megalomaniac pop, but cuz Betty's so kind and nice and has his heart, Matt eventually gives in.

Finally, Wilhelmeaner doubts that she's actually William's mother when a photographer says the infant looks more like Christina. (And why is he an expert in human development?) The Scottish lass catches wind of the doubt and begins to hope that maybe she *is* the mom cuz, erm, she had sex w/ Stuart right before the implantation procedure. A super-speedy blood test, however, shows that Wil gets to stay in the Meade empire. Xtina is crushed. Damn.

Random Scramble:

 - Mandy + pink slip = sadness
 - I totally understand Matt's P.O.V. about being used to get to his dad, but once again, he proved himself to be pretty much the best boyfriend ever. Now, although I love Betty, what has she done for him lately?
 - Hilda sweeping Mr. H a curtsy was beyond awesome.
 - Amanda: "He's the delegate from Hungary ... and he was."   Also: "My sex IQ is crazy high. I'm like the Einstein of sex."
 - So, is this plot and the baby-napping one next episode going to set up Christina's departure from the show? I'll miss her! Betty needs a good gal pal.
 - Overall, not bad for this episode, but it makes me think things are building for a big finish!

*Hanh* Just curious to know that If by "... but it makes me think things are building for a big finish!" Should I (we) take that to mean series finale and not season finale?

The show has already been picked up for another season so it won't be a series finale.

Last night was a bit dull of an episode. Wil lacked her usual scene-stealing spark and the Easter rabbit costume thing was just plain dumb. Too bad they didn't have Wil come in and seduce Mr H while his ex-wife looks on in the background, feels humiliated and takes it out on Betty.

It would be a super speedy DNA test, indeed, thought that sort of thing took weeks. But then, in the real world it would have taken months of hormones to prepare Christine for surrogacy - not find her in crisis today, procedure the same week.

Mead Publications has been remarkably trusting about the baby's parentage by not insisting on their own test long before this.

Willie has too much at risk if the baby isn't hers, so I'll distrust the results from that open envelope. If they ever take the hat off the baby, I'm still expecting red hair.

Feel sorry for Daniel - NO WAY

He totally played Betty with the whole lay-off of hundreds of employees & 5 magazines. He got the idea when he looked thru the book with employee pictures. After he found out his meeting wasn't going to happen, he put the pressure on Betty because he knew people losing jobs would get to her. He then manipulated her by saying her job wasn't in jeopardy because she's so valuable. Betty immediately decided to get Daniel into the event. He deserved being humiliated in his pink bunny outfit.

@ Christopher,

Um, yeah. "Ugly Betty" got an early renewal for the next season. See the "Related" stories at the end of the post.

@ Kayla

Interesting reading of the events, but I don't think laying off hundreds of employees and closing 5 magazines is "playing" Betty. That's far too serious and NOT a unilateral decision. Plus, no matter what Betty did, there was no guarantee that Mr. Hartley would have come through with the money at all. I took Daniel's actions at face value and believe he was genuine. His character hasn't been a pig for quite a while (he's been rather boring as a result), probably because his relationship with Molly and his nephew has reformed him.

Hooray for the return of Ugly Betty! I was getting kind of nervous that they wouldn't bring it back and now I'm so excited that I get another season. I thought "Rabbit Test" was a great return episode, and it really sets up the future of the show well. I'm curious as to whether this sets up Christina's exit for good, or perhaps some more future drama between Christina and Willi. I know Silvio says it was planned for Ashley Jensen to leave this show, but I just don't believe the baby is Willi's so we'll see how they resolve this.

Either way, it was quite entertaining and im excited for next week. I also loved that they used the song "Before It Gets Better" by Earlimart during the ending montage...great song that fit the mood and really makes you empathize with Christina. See a video clip of this scene at : http://modestcomplexity.blogspot.com/2009/04/song-of-week.html
