Southpark_ike No one's safe from "South Park," not even Britain's sweetheart Susan Boyle or the Somali pirates.

On Wednesday's episode, Kyle's little brother Ike (the egg-headed kid) leaves a note for his family explaining that he has been driven to running away in part because of the media's overexposure of Susan Boyle.

Check out the "South Park" clip:

The rest of the episode focuses on Cartman rounding up the kids to head to Somalia, only to discover that the pirates aren't the jolly, swashbuckling raiders depicted in Hollywood. (Arr!) And as the American sharpshooters close in, once again, innocence is lost.

Your thoughts on the Susan Boyle jab? Is this the start of the backlash? Or is it more about folks jumping on the bandwagon? How about the Somali pirate commentary?

This is typical for South Park. They jump on a hot issue that's current. That's what makes their episodes so timely - and funny.

South Park makes me laugh at myself reacting to current issues as if they know me. True that nobody is safe from South Park and that's what makes it such a cl***ic. I bought all the CDs from season 1 to season 8. It's the only cartoon that dares to mention Prophet Mohammuds name and got away with it. They criticized the Scientology cult Tom Cruise, John Trovolta and got away with that too. They criticize North Korean Dear Leader Kim-Jong il and made ****roach come out of his mouth. Nobody does that.

The episode was a cl***ic.

they always jump on bandwagons. Trust me, when society starts taking cues from South Park- we're gonna be in deep trouble, lol

JayDub,

I didn't mean to ask if "South Park" was jumping on the bandwagon -- that would imply they're supportive of something, not criticizing it.

I meant to ask if the Susan Boyle jab was really about criticizing her or if it was criticizing the media frenzy/bandwagon effect on Susan Boyle.

Clear.

I didn't really pick up on the Susan Boyle thing, as I didn't remember her name even though I did see her part-performance on the TV news! And even if I had realised at the time whom they were razzing, it was just a one line comment in the whole show, so why focus on it so much?

Anyway, I thought the episode was ok overall, but certainly not one of their best.

I think they were mocking the bandwagon, not jumping on it.

south park is just pointing out how crazy it's got in the media for susan boyle. they didn't mention that she had no talent or was ugly. so it wasn't a diss on her. just the 33 million people who youtubed her. me included.

I don't really know who Susan Boyle is, we don't hear much of her in Canada. I really liked the "Fatbeard" episode, though. This has to be the only thing that's come from America that actually uses correct Somali. "Black Hawk Down" didn't even feature any Somalis or even real Somali language. The episode was accurate in its information about Somalis and I loved how they delivered their meaningful commentary on the pirates in a comical manner. As a Somali aware of the continuous bias in the media about Africans, Muslims, and Somali pirates, I was ready to be offended by inaccurate portrayals and obscene material but it was very funny and very tasteful. South Park remains to be one of my favourite shows. Kudos.
