'House' has a vision of Cutthroat Bitch

Jennifermorrison_house_s5_240 It's been a week since Kutner's suicide and House still fears the loss of his mojo, while everyone else wonders who Cameron loves. And you won't believe who shows back up!

The POTW is a environmental protester who has put himself near every harmful carcinogen known to man to prove his point. No one is surprised when he gets sick - although Taub falls back on his favorite diagnosis of 'he's faking it'. However, it's hard to fake a spontaneously broken femur, so the team is thrown for a loop and Taub suggests they find out what type of cancer he has by making him sicker.

Cameron basically joins the team to solve the case, putting her vacation with Chase on hold. This causes House to wonder if she is tossing her relationship away to get back on the team or because she's secretly still in love with him. And Cuddy seems just as anxious to know the answer to that one. In truth, Cameron found out Chase was going to propose and she doesn't want it to be a knee-jerk reaction to tragedy. The scenes between Chase and Cameron are well played, but after nearly 2 years of practically never seeing them in the same scene together, it hardly packs the power it should.

House's big dilemma is his fear that he's lost his mojo. He can't figure out Cameron's angle, Taub had a better idea than him and he doesn't know why Wilson is eating healthy all of the sudden. He spends most of the episode chasing his shadow down one avenue after another, until his banter with Wilson makes him realize his best friend is just manipulating him by faking a sudden life style change. After the death of Amber, Wilson made several major changes in his life but came to realize that getting life back to normal would have been the better path to take. And what is more normal than him and House screwing with each other?

This leads to House's epiphany - which entails people manipulating each other and leads him to conclude that because all marriages suck the POTW's must also have hit some bumps. And despite his adamant belief that commercial plant growers are the ultimate evil, he must have bought his wife roses to make up for some massive screw up. Given that he was already over exposed to so many toxins, a scratch from a rose thorn pushed him over the edge.

The episode seemed to meander quite a bit, with 13 talking to Taub about Foreman not being talkative regards Kutner's death. But would she really talk to Taub about that? Or anyone? She's not known for being open with her emotions herself. There is also the moment where the POTW is ranting about how his son is no more important than any other child, which causes startled looks but then never goes anywhere. And the hot tubbing clinic patient doesn't even provide much amusement. All told, the episode seems to be reaching for pinnacle that it never achieves.

We end with House telling Cameron to stop trying to dump Chase by dumping cases on him, pointing out that she lost her first husband tragically and now she's throwing the second away because she's afraid of going through that again. Recognizing the blunt trust, Cameron goes to Chase and asks him to propose to her. Which he does. However, this is not the shocking end. That comes while House is at home, playing the piano and harmonica, only to have his riffing interrupted by Amber. Yes, THAT Amber!

How do you think Amber's hallucinatory return will affect Wilson and his relationship to House? Will House even tell him? And did you feel any emotional connection to Chase and Cameron getting engaged? How about any concern over Fourteen's lack of communication?

An excellent episode. I felt not seeing Chase and Cameron together for a year made the scene more powerful, not less. As far as 13 talking to Taub, it isn't the first time she has talked to him about Foreman. Anyway, 13 has been changing a little over the last few episodes, not quite as stand offish. I liked the POTW story, though it is a little hard to believe the wife stayed with him as long as she did. I enjoyed the House-Wilson banter, and enjoyed seeing Cuddy worried about Cameron's actions. As far as Amber, why make a big deal about that, it was really more part of the coming attractions rather than part of this show. I would hope those upset with the lack of time on air for Cameron/Chase will be happy.

A little bit for everyone here and it felt GREAT!!!!

Lots of Wilson and House...LOVE that!!! Chase without a surgical mask on....LOVE that!! An engagement....LOVE that!!! Very little of the newbies....LOVE that!!

Didn't care for the POTW...kind of boring. Also, clinic patient was not as funny as it usually is.

BEST PART: House playing the piano AND the harmonica!!!!

Hope Amber can help House. And maybe House shouldn't tell Wilson about him seeing her?? Just sayin'.

P.S. It's FORETEEN, not Fourteen. FORE..for Foreman and teen for 13. :)

What a contrast between Cuddy and Cameron. Cameron gets away from House and becomes a mature and sensible young woman who is quietly ballsy. Cuddy meanwhile spends all of her time chasing after House, and regresses to a teenage girl with no character traits beyond wuvving House. And unlike Cameron, there doesn't seem to be any way back for her because there was nothing there to begin with. Stick a fork in her, she's done.

i think it will be a great twist to the show if in the season final, we find out that Kutner's suicide was a staged murder.work a little diagnosis murder into the show, give house something to work on

While I loved, loved, LOVED seeing Chase and Cameron again, my concern is that a wedding is the "cool" idea Katie Jacobs and David Shore promised us a couple of months ago to bring back Chase and Cameron. I want to see them as DOCTORS - on a regular basis. The C/C relationship will not keep them in the forefront for more than an episode or two. Only bringing them back as doctors and part of House's team can effectively do that. I think "Saviors" emphasized how much more lively the show is when Chase and Cameron are involved. Foreman was likable again, and Thirteen was pushed into the background where she belongs.

Just out of curiosity, Zap2it... do you guys get some sort of perverse enjoyment out of revealing the biggest episode surprises right in the headline? You did it last week, now you did it again this week. I'm lucky, I'm staying current with my watching of House, but I'm sure there might be people wandering through the site who may not have watched the episode... and the fact that they tacked on that cameo right at the end of the episode was pretty obviously supposed to be a surprise to the viewers. It isn't so much a surprise when sites like this post it right in the HEADLINE!!!

Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.

Good grief, people. Stay away if it's gonna ruin your day.

Besides, if you're a big enough fan for spoilers to really upset you...you'd have been camped out last night watching House WHEN IT WAS ACTUALLY AIRING. Like our beloved recappers have to.

In the overall grand scheme of things this was the worst episode this season. Of the series its probably in the bottom ten episodes of the series.
