'Grey's Anatomy': Izzie plays the cancer card to get Meredith to try on wedding dresses

Ellenpompeo_greysanatomy_s3_240 What do you get when you cross manic wedding planning with a patient getting killer chemo, an overbearing father disapproving of a lifestyle, a surgeon finally beginning to face his demons, and a desperately sad pediatric case? Yep -- this week's "Grey's Anatomy."

Spoilers coming at you, are sparkly and dressed in white...

Izzie the wedding planner:
I'm torn between wishing I'd had Izzie as a wedding planner and wanting to kill her for the one she's planning. God bless Meredith for handing over the reins to give Izzie something to do to take her mind off chemo, and of course I realize that she needs to buy into the fantasy, but what she's planning so knuckles under to the wedding industrial complex -- I'd have expected something better or more interesting than pouffy, rustly dresses and a non-negotiable morning coat. And yes, you can have buffalo wings at a wedding. Oh goodness, I'm having flashbacks...

Katherineheigl_greysanatomy_s3_240 I also partly admire Manipulative Izzie. I mean, if you can't get what you want when you're dealing with a horrendous cancer diagnosis and treatment, then when can you? But I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly she went there -- pretending to code to get Cristina to force Meredith to answer her pages, pretending to choke to get Meredith to come out of the bathroom in an ivory monstrosity, playing up her illness to get bridal salons to deliver dresses to her room. She's a crafty one, that Stevens. Most of all I admired her determination to remain the person she was when she woke up that morning -- trying not to let the toxic dose of drugs she withstood change her from being capable to being just a patient.

And again, kudos to Meredith for ultimately just going along with the madness -- except for putting her foot down when Derek said he planned to make the Chief his best man. Which she was absolutely right to do. They may play nice now, but he did break up her family. That was a bonehead move from Derek, regardless of his ongoing feud with Mark. Their swordfighting was getting really predictable, though I appreciated Mark's flash of anger when he said he'd no longer be the charity case that the Shepherds had to take in. And he's right that Derek hasn't shown him the respect he deserves.

Chylerleigh_greysanatomy_s3_240 The great comedy from the friction was the fact that Lexie eats when she's tense -- and the feud was making her crazy. I admit I thought that they might be writing Chyler Leigh's pregnancy into the show when she kept hoovering everything in sight. And Meredith's "grow up, boys" speech was totally made when she pointed out Lexie's bad complexion (whatever) and humongous ass. Also cute and unexpected -- doubly so since the Grey girls really aren't cute -- Meredith making Lexie a bridesmaid.

Coping with the trauma: Owen goes into therapy, and proves to be an even tougher patient than Meredith. He's difficult, uncommunicative, and refusing to see the connection between what happened with Cristina and what happened to him in Iraq. Initially he puts Karev in charge of both the driver and the pedestrian involved in a car accident. George, taking care of the pedestrian, recognizes that the guy who was hit may have been trying to kill himself. Alex isn't interested in following up, and while George is waiting on a psych consult, the guy makes his way upstairs and throws himself out a window.

Trknight_greysanatomy_s3_240 And while operating on the driver ends Mark and Derek's fight, the case's main effect is to be a breakthrough for Owen -- forcing him to recognize how deeply his trauma has affected him, and showing him that George, in the way he treated the suicidal patient, is a gifted doctor. Way to go, George -- as Korbi reported it's about time we saw more of you.

No longer Daddy's girl:
It's always a treat to see Hector Elizondo, even when he's slamming George and Mark into the wall and passing judgment on his daughter's lifestyle. Papa Torres doesn't exactly cotton to the notion of Callie dating Arizona, and decides to save her from herself by insisting she leave her job and move back home. Which is insane and heavy-handed -- who would believe that even the most controlling father would seriously try to force his adult daughter to move back home. Even though she's struggling with her sense of loyalty and duty, good for Callie for not bowing to his threat to cut her off.

Bailey's gift: Bailey comes in on her day off, and ends up working with Arizona on the case of the most beautiful, fragile little girl who's only got a matter of hours to live. Arizona is remarkable talking to the girl's father, who's desperate not to let her go, insisting that he just needs to raise the money to take her to Mexico for a different treatment. Chandra Wilson's Bailey shows a brilliant, heroic amount of compassion, staying with the little girl and comforting her as she struggles to breathe. Ultimately, she finally convinces the father to face what's happening and be there for his daughter at the end -- and it's just heartbreaking. She feels it's been a bad day, in which she didn't get to practice medicine -- but Arizona sets her straight about just what she did do.

What did you think? Are you glad to see George back on his game? Do you think Owen will be able to get a handle on things? Did you like the wedding dress Meredith seems to have chosen?

Grey's was awesome. I liked seeing more George, just wish his success wasn't once again at the expense of Alex. Although good use of history there.

I love the Mcfamily scenes. MerDer and Mark&Lexie are my two favorite couples. I liked seeing Derek and Mark have it out. Mark rocked it in the OR professionally and personally. I love Grey sisters. Ellen P and Chyler L have great sisterly chemistry and both were so beautiful in this episode.

Callie and Arizon are good together. I hope her dad comes around.

Izzie's scenes were funny and heartbreaking when the chemo hit her.

Bailey does it again. Wonderful, touching scenes with her and the little girl. Guess they are making Lexie like when Daphne on Fraiser was pg? Just saying she's fat? Noticed her covering up when standing between Derek and Mark in the CT room (I think that's where they were) and she had the x-rays covering up her tummy.

When is Bailey going to get an Emmy. She has been brilliant the past few years and tonight shows why this actress deserves an emmy. She has also been great in other episodes this season that were not so great episodes.

George gets an actually storyline, that is amazing. I do not really like George anymore, perhaps it is because of all the drama the actor has been causing back stage. It will be interesting to see where his new friendship with Owen will take him.

Izzie downplays her sickness. I thought her jokes were really really really really mean but kinda funny. I almost thought that they were going to have her really code in the bed but no one would believe it was a real one like in the boy who cried wolf.

My parents are kinda like Callie's in the sense that they never want you to leave the home or be too far away but father was crazy to ask her to leave her current job and life just because she came out of the closet. I do not really like the Callie is gay storyline that much but I am proud she stoood up for herself in the end.

Favorite Moment: Bailey last moments with the little girl and her convincing the father to be with his daughter in her last moments. WAY TO GO CHANDRA.

I hope the Grey's backlash finally subsides and viewers and the media once again start to respect this show for the quality drama it is

Guess I'm in the minority -didn't really like this eppy. Glad to see more of George - and glad he kicked ***!- but didn't like the Alex-George interactions. Izzy was driving me nuts - really not appropriate to fake crises like that - and the whole wedding thing. And I still don't like Sloan and Lexie. However, I really did like Mer last night -- she really is maturing, like how she handled Derek/Mark, was kind to Izzy, and invited Lexie to be a bridesmaid.

Bailey was awesome as usual, but I thought she and her hubby separated b/c of her work schedule --and now she is going to taking on a tougher speciality...but seemed to think her husband would be fine with this (indicating they were back together). Did I miss something?

Not as good as the last episode four weeks ago, however it was way up there. Good going!!! GRey's is back on track and I loved the episode. Nice seeing more of George even though Christina really had less of a role in this one. THe next few weeks leading up to the finale looks awesome.

The actress playing the dying little girl was amazing. I've seen plenty of adult actors do death scenes that weren't half as convincing. She was so good, it was scary, I really believed she was a sick child.

I did not care for Alex attacking George. He was way, way out of line, and he was being a bad doctor. And then to try and blame George when the man tried to kill himself jumping out the window was crazy.

I thought that Izzie faking going into cardiac arrest was going too far. She deserves a lot of slack for what she is going through, for her other "indulgences", but not for that.

I loved Lexie's reaction when she found out she was going to be a bridesmaid. For some reason, that made me like her more than I have previously. I like her better now that she and Meredith are actually getting along and becoming more like sisters.

The scene with Bailey and the little girl had me crying so hard, I stopped the DVR and went in my sleeping 4 year old son room and gave him the biggest hug and kiss. That was excellent acting by Bayley and great writting by Chandra Wilson. Incredible show last night, good balance between drama and comedy.

Will Someone please give Chandra Wilson her Emmy Already. What more does this woman have to do???

This is just a post, it is not a spoiler. Even though if you do not have no idea what 100th episode storyline is then you should not read this next part

I heard that their is going to be a wedding on the 100th episode of Grey's Anatomy. Now anyone with a brain can plain and simple tell that Meredith and Derek are ingage but something tells me that it is not going to be them, it is going to be patient for that day.

But something tells me that is going to be used also to throw people off as well. I think by the end of the episode it will be Izzie and Alex. It is chessy a little but also kinda nice because Izzie thinks she is going to die and if she does I can see Alex wanting to give her a happy ending and marrying her. They kinda did that at the end of season 2 when Deny died.

That is my guess on the 100th episode and from the looks of this episode it would not surprise me if i am right.
