'Dancing with the Stars': Ty Murray & Steve-O face elimination in Week 6
The results episodes of "Dancing with the Stars" used to seem to take forever. Now they're packing so much stuff in it's just whizzing by. But rest assured, they stretched out the reveal to the last possible moment.
Like last week, we get treated to the encore right off the bat. Lil' Kim & Derek get the nod the second week in a row. I thought Shawn & Mark were better but this was a super-fun number (plus Shawn's uncomfortable a bit with the dance) so it's understandable.
I like how in the recap Steve-O called attention to the rampant idiocy (my words) of getting a higher score, from Len especially, when he completely forgets his steps but gets a 4 when he's done his best so far. Hear hear.
After the first break, some of the cast of the "West Side Story" revival are on hand to sing "America." The woman portraying Rosalia is FANTASTIC. All the ladies were great but, you know, she was giving me all kinds of goodness.
Before the leaderboard rundown, Tom Bergeron tells us there's no Dance Off. How inconsistent. Tom calls Lil' Kim & Derek and LT & Edyta to center stage. The former is obviously safe. The big surprise is that Lawrence Taylor is not on the chopping block. Hmmm.
Rascal Flatts are introduced after another commercial to sing "Here Comes Goodbye" while Tony and Julianne accompany them. I find them enjoyable but I wonder who's more relieved they're not singing "Life Is A Highway," them or me. There were some crazy ice skating-like lifts going on in this number. I'm thinking Tony choreographed this because I wasn't really feeling it.
Our first time-filler package is about how the celebs are in charge of picking the couples costume for next week's dance. The highlight: LT stating that he wanted something a little more modest since his mom will be watching and we all know that "Edtya, she's allergic to clothes."
Shawn Johnson & Mark and Melissa Rycroft & Tony are called down to learn their fates next. Both are safe, the opposite of shocking.
This week's Macy's Stars of Dance segment features Carmen Electra in a number choreographed by one of the original Pussycat Dolls, Lindsay Allen to "Stuff Like That There." It's a fun little 50's0flavored Cabaret-type number, though the way it's done I'd expect Carmen to be singing. Sadly, I think I was expecting more so it kind of fell flat for me.
Next up, Rascal Flatts returns to cover The Beatles "Revolution." The four dancers are Chelsie, Mark, Artem, and that blonde girl I don't know who is really good and was on about two weeks ago. The dance was enjoyable and the cover was solid.
The second time-filler is a piece with a body language expert telling us all about the celebs and what their tells are during all the facets of the show. It was interesting for sure.
This time, the last four couples standing are all on the stage while Tom reveals Gilles Marini & Cheryl are definitely moving on to next week. That makes our bottom three Chuck Wicks & Julianne, Steve-O & Lacey, and Ty Murray & Chelsie. After a word from our sponsors, Chuck & Julianne are let off the hook which, mathematically, wasn't a surprise. Tom clarifies that though one couple is being eliminated, it doesn't necessarily mean the other had the second lowest score. Lame.
And so, after some ado, the ax finally falls on Steve-O & Lacey. Steve was very gracious on his elimination and Tom says that he's charmed everyone. Aw. Like David Allen Grier, I'm going to miss him. Their last dance is to "What Hurts The Most" - I'm glad the guys from Rascal Flatts were on hand to hear it sung so questionably.
Did you think it was weird that they didn't have a Dance Off this week? I mean, either they do it every week or they don't, right? Do you agree with the results tonight? Did Len and Bruno sabotage Steve-O with those terrible scores? Any other thoughts?

So seriously, would it kill LT to at least pretend to be gracious that he's safe? His attitude bugs me. For that alone, I'd rather see Steve-O try to dance another week than see Lawrence get mad at the judges because he doesn't think their scores reflect how hard he worked. Umm... NOT an effort competition dude, but a dancing one. You're NOT the only one busting their butt out there, but you ARE the only one whining about it!!
I liked Tony and Julianne's liftapalooza. There were some really pretty lifts there. I guess when the girl is so tiny, you CAN toss her around like she's a feather.
LOVED Derek making his interview segment with Samantha into the AT&T bars! =)
And yeah, what IS up with the dance-off? Seems kinda fishy now. Sofar it's only been a device of convenience that has served as a slap in the face of the contestant who has actually improved in their second attempt. It can stay gone as far as I'm concerned.
yeah so now they're gonna pick and choose when they use the dance off? anyway i hate the dance-off i was glad not to see it tonight.
sorry to see Steve-O go. you had a good run, buddy! wish it would've been LT leaving....
Okay, so I get that this makes me about 7 different kinds of loser, but I just couldn't resist. =)

Liked the lifts but wasn't into the other parts of the Tony/Julianne dance.
Costuming will be interesting next week!
Weird about the lack of danceoff. Maybe they saw it wasn't working and was more inconvenient for the couples.
But if they are just picking and choosing the weeks that seems really unfair. Like maybe they were worried Steve-O would stay again if his judges scoresc went up so they nixed it? I hope thats not what's happening. But the lack of a clear bottom 2 doesn't bother me- they have always done that around this time of the season.
Like Ive said before, LT has just has to go next! Annoying attitude and no chemistry with Edyta. He's also the only one left who doesn't actually seem to be enjoying the dancing but wants to stay in so he can beat the others because he thinks he deserves it and is just used to being one of the best at what he does. Blah!
All I can think of is that there would be no need for a dance-off where, for instance, even if Steve-O got all tens in the dance-off, he still would not catch the second lowest dancer. Could be.
I'm glad things turned out the way they did. Steve-O really should have gone a long time ago. He reminds me of Jim Carey too much for one thing. As for the dance-off, unless they were going to let the judges determine who was actually going to leave the show, it was useless and only put more pressure on everyone who is working so hard. I hate it when they announce the people who are staying "in no particular order!!"
I thought the Julianne/Tony dance was fantastic. Great fun to watch.
Once LT goes, then (regretfully, Ty and Chuck), the remaining dancers are the best, so it will start to be more fun. I think the idea of the dancers designing the costumes is stupid. They are bad enough most of the time as it is.
Ty's problem is that his partner out-cl***es him severely. Chelsie is energetic, excited and is obviously having fun kicking up her heels and flipping her dress around. Ty looks like a stripper pole beside her. I think I'm developing a crush on Chelsie!
Rascal Flatts was great last night. Tony and Julianne did a very good job with their dance. I like Lil Kim and Derek's encore dance. I am curious about what the costumes will look like in the hands of the stars. I hope that none of the judges will be grouchy and will give scores that the couples actually deserve next week.
Wish LT had gone home. Encore was fun to watch. Truly enjoyed Tony and Julianne's dance. By the way, Tamara, why do you dislike Tony? The dance off is not necessary. Agree that Steve-O's scores from Len and Bruno were low so that he would be sent home.
What was up with the couples having to go down the stairs for the elimination process?
Need to make up their minds regarding the Dance-Offs.
Lawrence should have been in the bottom 2, not Ty.
Wish that Steve-O could have had 1 more week so we could see what he designed for Lacey for next week's dance.
Like that idea where the celebrities get to design the costumes. Guessing that Lawrence is going to have Edyta wear a turtleneck sweater and long pants.
"West Side Story" segment was brilliant, because of the talent.
Carmen Electra can't dance.
A country band singing a Beatles song was uncomfortable.
