RSS'America's Next Top Model': Oh, Fo!
This week the "America's Next Top Model" gals get a Brazilian...photo shoot, that is. Backbiting, spasms of insecurity, and the all important go-sees: the going is getting model-tough, so who rises to the occasion? The Bones
At this point in the game, with five models left, there is no room for error...but luckily for us eager viewers, there is still plenty of room for casual and catty cruelty. We've come far enough along to see each of the girls' faults (except for one - we'll get to that): Aminat is one-dimensional, Fo is short, Celia is old, Allison is sort of weird and insecure, and Teyona is...well, she's perfect.
Cue the winner's edit.
Yeah, I'm feeling pretty confident calling it here: Teyona FTW, Allison runner up. We'll follow up on our poll at the bottom of the column and see what you viewers are thinking!
This is the all-important go-see episode, pitting the girls in a taxi-cab/schmoozing cage match where one must eventually dominate (and, you know, show up on time). Celia's strategy seems sound. Start furthest away, work backwards, hop out of cab and walk when necessary. I salute her 25-year-old logic. But that wisdom will come back to bite her: everyone thinks she's too old, including the carping combo of Teyona and Aminat.
...who coincidentally sacrifice their last go-sees to arrive on time, along with Allison. Celia shows up :30 seconds too late, and Fo is forever behind. Those first three are eligible to win and it goes to Teyona, who walked very smart and was well-liked by all the designers.
Oh, hey, Natalie? Sorry you missed seeing the beach: it's where our next photo shoot takes place. Our models don the smallest swimsuits known to man -- the look on Teyona's face when she sees what she's modeling is priceless; all the girls' butts are blurred out because the suits are so teeny tiny -- and take to Nigel's camera. This is a much more interesting than Nigel's first shoot this season, given the girls have gained a lot more confidence/chutzpah.
Before panel, we're treated to Allison and Celia bemoaning how poorly they did (and Celia, for sure, totally flailed). We also see Aminat and Teyona eavesdropping on those lamentations and giggling like evil schoolgirls. I think Aminat is a classic instigator, pushing Teyona to behave more foolishly than she would in a vacuum, but it really makes me dislike these two even more (if such a thing is possible). It's childish, it's rude, and it's really beneath them. Big thumbs down, ladies.
The truth comes out at panel: Allison was surprisingly good, Nigel's "pleasant surprise." Fo -- or "Gollum" as Mr. Jay unkindly calls her -- is justifiably called out for her height-insecurity and just God-awful photo. Teyona hunches around like a sort of Notre Dame monster, but ends up with a killer shot. Aminat cannot figure out what to do with her to-die-for body. Celia goes last, practices herself to death, and comes off looking "remedial."
Fo is our beautiful "Blaxican" girl, but despite the tears she shed this episode...she gets the axe.
The Pretty
Has there ever been a more graceful loser? Especially this far along in the cycle? Fo cried prettily, asked Tyra for a second hug, then gave a cute curtsy on her way out. Pure class. She seemed the least partisan and petty of everyone left, and I am sad to see her go. (Plus, her look -- high fashion and girl next door at once -- was so great. How different does she look from her original press photo, above?)
The Ugly
Celia sometimes looks Crypt Keeper-old -- in modeling parlance -- but she is still a super hot 25-year-old honey. When she laments "I need a facelift," it sort of breaks my normal-looking, thirty-something recapper heart. It reminds me of what a farce this TV/modeling business is: you can have talent, drive, way-above-average good looks, and a dead-on fashion-sense...but you're probably going to lose to some schmuck.
Sigh.

Okay, my Sao Paolo brothers and sisters? You need to implement some public transportation opportunities and bike lanes, stat. That traffic was beyond horrific. My heart goes out to you.
The Poll
You like Celia; you really like her. 51% thought she would nail the go-see, followed by Fo, Allison, Teyona, and Aminat. Now, purely because I disagree with the judges, who was your favorite swimsuit shoot?

Im still rooting for Allison, mainly cause she's likeable and fresh faced, despite her HUGE eyes. Celia wont win cause her insecurities about her age will eventually get to her like Fo's height got to her. Not liking the other 2, especially after they eavesdropped. Very childish!
Allison! She's differently cute.
Too bad Kourtney wasn't around for the swimsuit episode...:(
Thankfully Tatiana wasn't -that would have boo-hoo fest written all over it.
My bad... I meant to say Tahlia. There's no way that she could have had a successfull swimsuit shoot.
FO! She's adorable and comes across as a good person finding her way. She could definitely turn on the water works at times but mostly came across as a lady. I'm a resident of Albuquerque and I was happy to see that Fo made us proud with her effort and the way she presented herself.
As for the rest, I really like Allison and hope she gains some confidence. Teyona really showed herself to be a child in this episode. When Celia was about to admire some of the go-see winings and Teyona launched into her "don't touch" tirade...well that was the moment I lost any respect for Teyona. It reminded me of Aminat's s.t.u.p.i.d. tirade earlier in the season. Aminat has a rocking body but an ugly personality and I just don't see her face as attractive. Those two are made for each other.

b!*@h please!!! How does this make them any different from Celia, Natalie and Bug Eyes when they were sitting around lamenting over Tahlia wanting to quit! What was rude and deserved a big thumbs down was Celia interupting panel to tattle on Tahlia!
And Fo being "pretty". Have you not witnessed her hatred of Teyona for winning!!! The least you could do is be fair Lisa B!
Fo had no hatred Teyona, she was merely upset with herself for not winning. Huge difference.
And at this point in the game, when you're down to 5, [Teyona and Aminat] acting like that is disgusting. What kind of winner would either of those girls make? With so few girls left, if you're still being petty like that, then you are a grade A beeotch - plain & simple. How could you NOT be bonding with the other 2 girls when you're so far away from home and they are all you know?
I'm really torn about who I think should win.. I like Allison because I think she has come the farthest and made the most improvement, but I think it's Celia who has the whole package (style, posing, walk, personality, look).
As for Aminat.. I don't think she's gonna win, but whether she wins or not, she is definitely going places. Her body IS amazing and people will overlook the flaws and work with her on posing and walking just for that.
Teyona.. yeah, she's probably going to win it.. I have always though ANTM was somewhat rigged ever since cycle 3 and Teyona getting tonnes of new clothes right near the end after looking like SH!T at panel for the entire show seemed a bit too coincidental for me. BTW, even with the stylish clothes, she still looked like every other pretty girl I see on the street.
I love how you point out the fact that Teyona and Aminat were eavesdropping and laughing and called it petty when the other girls were talking about how they thought Aminat or Teyona should go home. Teyona has turned out the best photos week in and week out and Aminat may not be photo gorgeous but her body is the most modelisque and she can rock out a catwalk. So really please tell me again who is petty? Sweetie I do not know what you have against the 2 clear models in the competition but all you have to do is point to the go-sees to see who will be working and who will be sitting at home drowing their sorrows in a gallon of ice cream before their shifts at Walmart.
Fo was my favorite, but she did look extremely awkward in the photo shoot. Who knew that 5'8" was short in the modelling world? Not me! Where do they ever find pants long enough for anyone taller, when I can't manage it?
I admire Celia for her sense of style and her grace, but she blew that photo shoot, too, and her age is against her in this competition.
If Allison doesn't improve her walk, she'll never succeed in this competition. I am glad to see her doing so much better with her photographs, but that hair has got to go. It seems like it's literally dragging her down.
I agree that Teyona is the clear winner here, and I don't mind her at all. This program is just entertaining to me, and even though I may have my favorites, none of them have ever won. I would be interested in a follow-up show to see how all of the contestants have done for themselves.
Fo was one of my favorites from the beginning, and I am dissapointed that she's gone - I like Celia, too, but the "she looks too old" mentality is definitely a challenge.
Back in cycle six, though, Jade, who was in the final three, was 26 years old - does anyone remember if she was ever told how her age could possibly hold her back or that she appeared too mature?
I love watching this show. I am primarily rooting for Celia because she is more refined/cl***ier than the other girls and shows great fashion sense.
