'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' throws a baby shower

Meganpark_secretlifeoftheamericanteenager_240 We've known for a long time that teens should not have babies, what we learned tonight on The Secret Life of the American Teenager was that they ought not throw baby showers either. At least Adrian shouldn't, and Grace shouldn't help, they're minds were definitely both elsewhere this week.

Adrian's failure on everything from petits fours to sending out invitations caused some serious issues. Lauren and Madison went to complain to Amy. Alice complained to Ben. And Anne, Anne called Kathleen to see what was going on with the invitations. Even Henry got in on the act. He wanted to know why he wasn't invited. That answer was, of course, that it was going to be a traditional baby shower, except for the pregnant teen bit. You may not think it, but I wholly approve of traditional baby showers, I stayed as far away from the one my wife was involved in as I possibly could.

Grace shouldn't have been involved because while being interested in Ricky, Grace still had the hots for Jack, and Grace used Adrian's baby shower incompetence to hook up with Jack. Grace called up Jack for help blowing up balloons and instead did some flirting. Jack responded, and the balloons floated off into the sky as the two kissed. That's right, they did some serious smooching, even though Jack was dating Shawna.

Shawna knew what happened too. She instantly knew. That was some impressive ESP on her part. I like that girl, particularly when she showed up to the baby shower and began to interrogate every girl there about who had done what with Jack. It's too bad that she and Jack broke up at the end of the episode, it means that we might not see much more of her and she was just developing into a really interesting character. Who knows though, maybe Ricky will hook up with her next week.

Speaking of Ricky, he and his foster mother, Margaret, had a serious talk tonight about what Ricky's responsibilities might be when the baby arrived. Margaret wanted to make quite sure that Ricky really understood that he didn't have to follow the same pattern of abuse that he was a part of with his father when he was younger. Margaret also volunteered to buy Ricky a gift that he might need in his fathering capacity. Why did no one buy me anything I was going to need when I was a father-to-be? All I got were some books. What I really needed was some sort of spit-up pre-treater.

Speaking of disgusting, Adrian slept with her brother, Max, tonight. There were threats of military school made by his parents, but apparently hormones outrank drill sergeants. I really don't care that Adrian and Max are not actually blood relatives, it's disgusting and wrong, and I can't imagine how they did it with the shower starting in the other room.

Adrian's dad caught them after the fact. He was all ready to send Max to military school, but Adrian was apparently holding an ace up her sleeve -- it turns out that Ruben has been cheating on Max's mom with Adrian's mom, and Adrian knew. Max however didn't want to know and was miffed to find out. He was even more miffed that Adrian didn't declare that she loved him after he stated his love for her. Max departed the apartment in a huff and I can only hope that we won't see him and Adrian together in the future. I've said it before and I'm saying it again -- they're close enough to being brother and sister that the relationship is disgusting, teen hormones or no teen hormones.

As for the shower... it was quite the event. Mr. Molina's pregnant wife came with her mother and on the way in her mom hit the car with Tammy, Anne, Ashley, and Kathleen in it. Grace called Joe, our fake ID making friend, earlier in the episode for help with invites, and it seems that he was to blame Mrs. Molina's appearance. Awesome, right? Yeah, not quite as great as Amy going into labor on the steps to Adrian's apartment.

It seems like next week's going to be the episode we've all been waiting for. Fingers crossed people, it looks like there's a baby on the way.

The TV and Film Guy's Reviews - I like to think of it as my love child.

Molina's wife is from the "George Lopez Show" and she really looked preggers. Anyone know if she is?

Yes, Constance Marie was really pregnant when she filmed this episode. She gave birth since then.

I wish George wasn't so immature and Ashley so mean to her mom.

I really like Amy and Ricky. Ricky is hard to figure out. His motives I mean but I like him around Amy. The chemistry and banter between them is excellent. And he seems really there. I was glad Amy called him even though she needed prompting from Ben.

I think Grace has something big to tell her mom like shes pregnant.
