Swoosie Kurtz ditches the eyepatch for 'Desperate Housewives'
On the one hand, I'm pleased that ABC found alternate employment for Swoosie Kurtz as Susan's boss on "Desperate Housewives". On the other hand, it just serves as a bitter reminder that the very same network cancelled the far better show she was on previously. Rest In Peace, "Pushing Daisies".
Susan, upon hearing she's being evaluated at work, sucks up to art teacher Swoosie in a big way. And is misinterpreted in a big way, since it turns out Swoosie's gay and into Susan. This plot was literally too awkward and sad for me to watch. Except to note that Susan and I drink the same coffee (decaf soy latte), and that, again, Swoosie Kurtz is awesome. I hope she doesn't disappear after this episode.
In other, equally awkward, news, Orson's petty theft of neighbors' knick knacks has continued unabated, and Bree is so embarrassed that she allows Juanita to shoulder the blame for a couple of the thefts. At first I found this plotline difficult to believe - Orson's a grown man acting like a petulant child - but his line in therapy had a ring of truth to it. When Bree angrily leaves the session, Orson declares that she's mad because it's something she can't control..."And I love it!"
Lynette, encountering ageism in her job interviews, asks Gaby to put in a good word for her with Carlos, who got Bradley's job and is looking for a marketing director. Gaby isn't into it until Carlos hires his ex-girlfriend as his VP. Did anyone NOT see where this was headed? She decides that she needs a woman on the inside (read: spy), and Gaby and Lynette wind up agreeing to use each other. Because that's not going to go horribly awry at ALL.
Edie finds out that Dave had a daughter, but instead of confessing to her obituary-reading and asking about her, she passive-aggressively asks him about having kids. Dave talks about his story in the third person, saying a "friend" had a daughter who died in an accident, and that part of him died with her. Sadly, Edie's digging doesn't turn up the article saying that Mike wouldn't be charged in the death of Dave's wife and daughter. Looks like Mike was driving the car, folks, but it's Katherine for whom we should (at least initially) fear. Dave flatters her into coming on the camping trip when she tries to bail. Katherine: "You really think I make that much of a difference in Mike's life?" Dave: "Oh, absolutely. If he ever lost you, it would destroy him." Dun dun DUUUUUUUN!
Who would you rather Dave go after - Katherine, or Susan? Are you buying Orson's kleptomania?

I actually think it was Susan driving the car on the night of the accident if I remember correctly -- which should provide an interesting twist if Dave finds out that piece of information.
Agreed on Swoosie. Apart from the eyepatch, it felt like she was channelling Aunt Lilly, especially in her first scene. R.I.P. Pushing Daisies.

Horrible review! Get someone who likes the show to review it.
This is a good show. One of the most consistently funny, interesting and dramatic shows. Leave it alone!
In a perfect world, I would want Dave to go after Susan and kill her so I don't have to watch her anymore. I just wish the storyline would go a little faster.
Hmmm... I must be reading something else. Although this recap isn't super lengthy (which I prefer) I don't see the recapper as hating this show. I come for comments and observations that may or may not be the same as mine. I don't read anything negative here.
Oh- and I agree about Pushing Daisies. The cancellation of that show was a real shame!
I kinda hate the whole Dave wants to get revenge on Mike thing. Let's just get that storyline over with.
I thought the preview for next week was ridiculous. I WOULD have been on the edge of my seat curious about what was going to happen if they didn't ANNOUNCE it in articles in TV Guide and EW. I won't spoil it if people have avoided it, but I really can't see how anyone could have. Even just flipping casually through my EW magazine I figured out what was going to happen!
I I blink I will miss the recap of this show. :(

Did anyone else recognize the old man at the office where Edie went to dig up info on Dave? (Sorry, I forget the name of the office.)
The old man looked really familiar...but I can't place him. Any help?
Recap was rather short...if I had missed tonight's episode this recap wouldn't have helped much. You didn't mention the funeral, or the poker scene, or when Lynette lied about her age (saying she was older) in order to get a job....
Orson is annoying. He's immature and a child. Why is Bree still with him?
I like Susan. I don't want her or Katherine to go.
genniel: I agree with you. I would enjoy next week's episode a lot more if I didn't already know what was going to happen.
@Ashley: The old man was William Schallert. I'm a dork for remembering this, but he was Gidget's dad on the "New Gidget" that ran in syndication during the mid 80s. This guy works a ton, and I've seen him in a bunch of other shows.
