'Smallville': Jimmy And Clark Are Sky High

Aaronashmore_smallville_s6_240Trust is the name of the game when Jimmy Olsen returns to "Smallville," only to find the scene just ain't what it used to be. Clark appears to have learned to keep his big yapper shut, as he does yeoman's job in keeping Tess Mercer at bay. Also, Davis might actually get the girl after all.

The Spoilers have never taken illegal drugs, but always wonders what might have been.

Davis Bloome is definitely having issues controlling "the beast," even going as far as confessing his sins. The good priest tells him to overcome evil with good. However, I don't think he meant vigilante justice; self-policing the mean streets of Metropolis. I believe if his killing actual bad guys keeps him from hurting our hero, then let my Robin Hood go!

Yeah, I would have never pegged Jimmy as the jealous type... or even an addict. Morphine is a hell of a drug, but when you witness the neighborhood paramedic on his killing spree while high as a kite and emotionally distraught; your case has become somewhat more difficult to believe. Chloe's definition of standing by her man works insomuch as she'll agree with his every point, but only in public. Together in private, she becomes increasingly concerned that Doomsday's handiwork on his psyche is sending him to a dark place few return from. He does raise a good point in the end that she's quick to trust practically everyone else but him.

Speaking of trust, Chloe opines to Clark that he should back off his Red/Blue Blur crusade, lest unwanted attention find its way to him. To no one's surprise, he's confident that he has it under control. This theory is tested this week when Tess places herself and her favorite subject of curiosity in a position to out himself as a hero that's super.

Once on the plane to LA to launch the newest Tess Mercer/Lex Luthor enterprise, the two do their best to pry information from one another. Tess leads off the conversation by sharing how incredibly God-awful her childhood was in hopes Clark will share what she's wanted to hear all along. Of course, Clark is a rock, even when pumped full of the most expensive alcohol Oliver could stash on his plane. She does mention a Lex Luthor journal, which piques Clark's interest but that conversation goes nowhere.

Samwitwer_smallville_240 Also going nowhere is Jimmy's attempts at anyone believing what he knows about Davis. Since no one is going along with the elevator killing, he goes "undercover" to search Davis' ambulance. He finds the body of a drunk driver who was served the Davis Bloome brand of justice, proceeds to freak out and bust his hand on a piece of glass. Once Davis finds our thoroughly freaked out Jimmy, he injects him with a fabulous liquid which allows our photog to really experience grandiose head trip: Doomsday ripping apart his beautiful bride. When he returns to reality, Chloe stands there not believing him yet again, much to no one's surprise.

Back on the plane, the Brilliant Plan de Tess gets underway with the pilot going bye-bye, flowed by a massive engine failure. Sensing he can't save her properly without dropping character (also: no parachutes!), Clark assists in placing an emergency oxygen mask on her face, thus allowing her to quickly and easily lose consciousness. Fully subdued, he takes her in his arms and leap from the plane right before the AWESOME EXPLOSION! The next day, Tess takes the opportunity to thank him for being super once again. Oh, and that he can totally trust her.

Davis isn't doing so hot, and the problem is exasperated when Jimmy catches our paramedic is the process of stalking his prey. Before he can land the death blow, Chloe Tasers her husband back into his bad dream. The mere touch of her soft hands is enough to return Davis to a state resembling normal. Later, after what seems like an insanely long period of time, Jimmy is finally released from the hospital. He takes one last swipe at Davis, but when Chloe takes the side of a man she's only briefly known, that's the last straw. Jimmy proceeds to all but call for a divorce then and there in the hospital, leaving Mrs. Sullivan-Olsen openly crying in the hallway.

Our ending rain-inspired montage shows Jimmy leaving a note for Tess to meet Davis, then promptly resigning his plush Daily Planet position; Clark whooshing to yet another Metropolis scene of police activity; Tess handsomely paying the "pilot" for a job well done; Chloe simultaneously crying and realizing that Jimmy might just be right after all; SeƱor Olsen taking more pills than his doctor prescribed(!); all while Davis feels inclined to stand outside in the rain and catch hypothermia.

Join us next week for a Very Special Episode when Nancy Reagan encourages Jimmy to Just Say No!

After weeks without Lois, she comes back in one episode, only to be sidelined in the next. Her being pseudo-stood up at the coffee shop goes unresolved.

I hope you are being sarcastic about not pegging Jimmy to be the jealous type.

Lex trained Tess well. I said when it happened that Clark shound have looked for and grabbed a parachute when it happened.

I liked this episode more than last week because there was no time travel crap in this one and also this was a really good episode! I was kinda hoping that Clark was going to fly in this episode but instead he just jumped out of a plane and parachuted down.

I know Tess is evil, but a part of me wants to sympathize with her. I mean she was beaten by her dad when she was kid, so I understand why so would go dark. If I was Clark, I would give Tess a chance, but hey I'm not Clark!

My one questions from this episode I have is Chloe and Jimmy are going to have a divorce?

I'm losing interest REALLY FAST. The Davis / Beast character is a bore. Chloe's character really let me down in this episode. An episode without Lois usually suffers, as this one did. OK Powers-that-be, change your minds---it's time for Clark to put on the suit. With another series now realized, it's going to get tougher keeping Clark just a red / blue blur.

"Clark whooshing to yet another Metropolis scene of police activity" ... ??? How could you fail to mention he first whooshed into a phone booth to change clothes? That was cl***ic!

I found this to be one of the best episodes. I am loving "Crashdown" as Davis Bloom. (Can't be picking on the poor deceased Raptor pilot on "Battlestar's" last night;) Allison Mack's expression with tears in her eyes as it dawned on her that the horrible things coming out of Jimmy Olsen's mouth may in fact be true - was just beautiful. That girl can do more with no dialogue than the overrated hacks on "Grey's Anatomy" do with pages of dialogue.

Great episode setting the tone for the last run of episodes.

I really liked the scenes with Clark and Tess. The way they are showing Clark change from reporter to the Red Blue Blur are great.

Aaron Ashmore did a great job with his scenes and I missed Jimmy these last four months.

Loved the phone booth, as well as the quick change Clark does for Chloe at the start of the show.

Overall okay episode, seemed like filler and perhaps setting things up for the future. Oh, how Chloe will cry when she realizes that Davis is the badguy.

I thought Oliver was taking over LexCorp, if so why is Tess still in charge and doing under the table things? If not (perhaps deal is through yet) why is she flying a queen jet and not a lex corp jet.

Great episode over all. Some of the Tess/Clark stuff was awkward, but over all ok. The Jimmy/Davis/Chloe arc was fantastic. Great acting. Great script. Great creepy mood. Everyone was believable and relatable. How can you fault Chloe when Jimmy is acting so crazed? How can you blame Jimmy when he's so messed up (and he's right, just not coherent)? Even Davis wishes there was another way, but his ruthless manipulation of Jimmy was excellent. Still, he didn't want to harm him. Jimmy (who has always been the jealous type) was brutal at the end. Yeah, she doesn't really trust him and I am at a loss as to why she married him, but he's a jerk to rip her to shreds in a public place and claim the worst mistake he'd ever made was marrying her. Not much loyalty there either. And through it all, Chloe refuses to add to Clark's guilt by even telling him how badly things are going.

the problem is exasperated

"Exacerbated". I think you meant "exacerbated".
