'Smallville': Zatanna works her magic
What if you woke up in "Smallville" and your wish to be someone else came true? Chloe finds out that being Lois Lane has its perks. Now if I could just summon my sexy genie to grant me my back-log of wishes...
The Spoilers wish they were a little bit taller and a baller. They also wish for a good-looking girl (to call her), a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a '64 Impala.
Go Chloe, it's your birthday! It's quite the hip happenin' at the Ace of Clubs. Clark is on safari with Bart, so he sends Oliver to present the birthday girl with his gift: a vintage copy of Tales of the Weird &Unexplained. Lois is there as well with a cupcake and beats quite the hasty retreat after the fact. So does Oliver, allowing us to be introduced to Zatanna: Mistress of Magic. She promises to grant Chloe her one greatest wish... which she promptly does by blowing out the candle. Imagine her surprise when she wakes up to Lois staring back at her in the mirror. I know, shocking! Of course, it's funny because of the cartoon-ish music!
Life at a big city newspaper is sweet if you're Lois Lane. Dry cleaning, payoffs, food, annoying Clark... yep, I want to be Lois. Speaking of, he notices Lois isn't her usual snarky self, but has no idea that it's Chloe. When they head to a police standoff, it's only after she translates the crazy guy's Latin and spills everything she knows about Clark does our hero finally figure out who it is. Oliver has no such problem catching on when Zatanna shows up unannounced to his office, looking for his help. To sweeten the deal, she offers a wish for him as well, but only until midnight. I know my sex-crazed roommate wishes he was in her bed right about now.
Once she returns to her theatre, Chloe/Lois and Clark are there to ask her most politely to reverse the curse. It takes the good guys a few minutes to realize it can only wear off when Chloe no longer wants to be Lois. She does grant Clark what he has always wanted: to be a real boy! Unfortunately, when the powers left his body, so did his knowledge of Chloe looking like Lois. The next few minutes are spent with Chloe desperately trying not only to prove she is Chloe, but that Clark is super.
Meanwhile, Oliver dons his Green Arrow getup to retrieve the until-recently irretrievable book that will help Zatanna bring her father back. Right on cue, she shows up ready to take possession of the book. He's tempted to burn the book. All she wants is to have her daddy back, but Oliver can sense the crazy, which helps him to throw the book in a nearby fire... except Zatanna makes a last second save AND ties Oliver up in one fell swoop. Yeah, that'll help your case.
In a last-ditch effort for info, Clark and sorta-Chloe go to the hospital and gain what they need to know from the crazy guy at the standoff to ultimately face-off against Zatanna. Problem is, her dad can come back, but only if someone is sacrificed. Chloe believes in Clark enough for her wish to reach its end and returns to normal. He then makes his "super leap" to the roof just in time for Zatanna's opening of the portal. Blah blah blah, don't do it, your father wouldn't want this, be your own person... then Chloe becomes entangled in the yellow/orange glow; her life slowly slipping away. Clark convinces Zatanna in the nick of time to have her "latrop eht esolc," thus saving the day once again.
The next day, everyone is back to their normal selves... mostly; Clark figures out that a life without super powers sucks, Oliver gets Zatanna's digits, while the real Lois returns... disappointed she missed fun in the city. In the end, Chloe once and for all throws away any possibility at a journalism career as she joins Oliver in becoming Watchtower in the Justice League. Good for her!
Next week, it's Clark versus Davis. Game on!

This show keeps getting better and better... I can't wait for next week!!!!
I really enjoyed Erica and Tom's interactions. Working with Allison all these years definitely helped Erica with her Chloe characterization. Oliver and Zatanna were very interesting together. I never really noticed the complete opposite wardrobe choices Lois and Chloe make every day until now, it definitely should have given Clark a clue sooner. I hope Chloe has made her final decision on what she wants to be.
Good episode. I hope we see Zatanna again. To me Smallville could have two spin-offs if they wish, and they could be Supergirl with Kara, and Justice League with Oliver Queen, Chloe, and the rest of the crew.
Smallville, where if you WORK for you dream job, get an education you get crapped on (Chloe) & if you bang your boss, blow off school, have big boobs you get it all.
Erica Durance's acting was a bad parody.
This show needs to end.
I loved tonight's show it was so awesome
If people that gave Emmy awards actually didn't just nominate the shows whose crooked showrunners paid them the most money, Erica Durance would win an Emmy for last night. She was 100% perfect as Chloe - it was uncanny. The actress that played Zatanna should just be added to the cast. This new team running "Smallville" is really showing that Al Gough and Miles Milar leaving didn't matter one bit.
2 Episodes ago, Clark was all about Lana. Bed breaking sex. Now he's a douchebag dissing Chloe who died for him?
What a jerk. Erica Durance was no different playing Chloe than she is all the rest of the time as Nois. Oh wait, she attempted a bad parody of Chloe's facial expressions here & there, with the face that does not move.
How dissappointing. Maybe she can nominate herself again for an Emmy. LMAO!
good episode because of Zatanna. The actress and her costume was so spot on for the comic character.
Clark's one wish...? WOW, what a waste, thought he was in LOVE with Lana. You would of thought his wish would of been to cure Lana. Instead it was wasted on nonsense. Well I guess it had to be something silly and wouldn't have a permanent effect.
First off, I absolutely LOVED this episode. I thought both Tom Welling and Erica Durance really stepped their game up and they were both OUTSTANDING!
Also, I thought the writing was outstanding and did Tom Welling direct this episode or no?
Finally, I hate when people say Erica Durance is not a good Lois Lane and I know that this episode will prove them wrong and show them that Erica Durance is an amazing Lois Lane.
