'Private Practice': Addison Chooses Not to Sleep with a Married Man. Yay!
Tonight on "Private Practice", we had a lack of sex, a married man with a wandering eye, no baby-daddies, a heart-breaking little girl and an awesome guest turn by Tara Maclay. And Dell continued to serve no purpose whatsoever.
Addison
She treats Morgan, a woman who has already had one miscarriage and is now having cramps with her next pregnancy. Addison tells her she can help herself by not having sex. And our main-character-treats-a-life-parallel story has begun!
Violet & Her Men
Pete treats a car-jacking/attack victim named Tara. She's a Wiccan from UC-Sunnydale. But actually she's "Jill." Pete wants her to get a psych consult, so Violet is called in. Jill strongly wants to help the police find her attacker and put him away, so Violet helps her remember the attack.
Meanwhile, Violet's two men demand a paternity test: the non-baby daddy is outta there, the baby daddy deserves to know. Can't argue with that. About 60 seconds after I call them that, Naomi calls them baby-daddies. Joke thief! Joke thief! Cooper informs her she can't have a paternity test for a couple more weeks anyway because the baby isn't far enough long yet.
Cooper & Charlotte
His patient Annie is a 12 year-old girl having a tumor removed from her heart by a surgeon named Dr. Barnes. In the pre-surgery scrub up, Dr. Barnes hits on Addison and her knees open a little. Her words, not mine. The surgery doesn't remove the whole tumor and she has to have more chemo and another surgery. Understandably, Annie is sick of all the surgeries and treatment. She appeals to Cooper to help her.
Sam & Naomi
Sam called out Naomi's name during sex with his foxy girlfriend Sonya. Oops. Since Addison had to pay a visit to Seattle Grace for February Sweeps, they are waiting for May Sweeps to get Sam and Naomi back together.
ONE MONTH LATER
Addison
Dr. Barnes hits on her again in the scrubbing-in room by telling her how beautiful she is. Addison is still treating Morgan, the miscarriage patient. Addison puts her on total bedrest for the remainder of her pregnancy.
Violet & Her Men
She conveniently missed the window for the paternity test, so her potential baby-daddies want her to have an amnio, which has risks. Also, Jill is being retraumatized by Violet digging up her memories of the attack. The police ask her to come in for a line-up and Pete is not happy about it. Violet accompanies her to the lineup and Jill identifies her attacker.
Cooper & Charlotte
They seem to be working on a fresh start but Charlotte still has a big ol' stick up her ass about something. Coop goes to see Annie, who is back in the hospital for chemo and then her next surgery. Annie still wants to have a normal life for however long she can instead of trying the iffy-at-best surgery.
Her parents are torn on what to do. Dr. Barnes thinks there's a chance Annie will survive, but Cooper is siding firmly with Annie. Addison advises Barnes to bring in Charlotte about it and Charlotte takes this opportunity to trump Cooper. Because she's a giant turd. Man, I dislike her. The parents, Cooper, Charlotte, Dr. Barnes and a judge decide to powwow about what to do within earshot of Annie. Naturally, Annie wants a say because it's her life but the judge insists on the surgery because Dr. Barnes thinks he can save her. Boy, Dr. Barnes has quite the jerky God-complex, doesn't he?
Sam & Naomi
Sonya is making him sleep on the floor as punishment (still?). Naomi is still his confidant, and offers to take Maya so he can "whisk" Sonya off on a trip. Naomi then researches tropic locales for them. Dell rightly calls her this on how weird that is.
ONE MONTH LATER STILL
Addison
Dr. Barnes has been MIA due to "personal stuff" for awhile and remarks in the scrubbing-in room that he missed Addison. That's... a little creepy, Dr. God Complex. Addison heads off to Morgan's amnio and has a little girl-talk about her crush on Dr. God. She thinks something is holding him back from asking her out but she can't tell what it is.
He corners her in the doctors' lounge and wants advice about his God complex pushing too hard. He takes her hand and wants her to just sit with him for awhile. That's a little barfy. I'm sorry, but it is. Addison points out that they don't even know each other's names and when she introduces herself, he drops her hand like it's hot and leaves a Dr. Barnes-shaped hole in the wall running out of there.
Violet & Her Men
Jill is freaking out because she recognizes her attacker's face but can't remember any details about the attack for the trial. She also keeps seeing her attackers face everywhere, even in her dreams. She doesn't want to stop with therapy, though, because she wants to see him locked up. Violet asks Pete to help with Jill and Jill sees him as her attacker. Pete wants Violet to quit with the therapy, but she insists.
Cooper & Charlotte
Annie's impending surgery has her accepting the fact that she's going to die in the hospital. Charlotte overhears and takes it back up with Dr. Barnes, calling him out on his God complex. Dr. Barnes backs down and Annie gets to go home. She's elated. And good for you, brave little girl.
Sam & Naomi
Naomi is still researching trips (weren't Sam and Sonya supposed to go on their trip like a month ago? What the eff?) and Dell points out how she's really avoiding living her own life by inserting herself into Sam's life.
ONE MONTH LATER STILL (GOOD GOD, PEOPLE! Is Violet going to give birth next week?)
Addison
Morgan's baby is going to be fine... and it turns out Dr. Barnes is Morgan's husband. OH MAN! You ass****! Addison meets him at a bar and advises him not to do something really stupid (like she did). He asks, "What if I wanna take the step? What if the step is all I can think about?" Oh man. He sucks big fat donkey balls. Addison, though, is a CHAMP and walks away. Good for you, lady. High five to my redheaded girlfriend.
Violet & Her Men
At the trial, Jill is freaking out and Violet talks her through it. It's a really nice performance by Amber Benson, just fyi. Later, Pete apologizes to her because Jill ended up doing really well and Violet is responsible. Violet then tells her men that she's not ready to know who the baby daddy is. Neither of the men like that decision and they both leave. At home, Violet bonds with Cooper over the daddyless baby.
Cooper & Charlotte
Cooper goes to Annie's 13th birthday party on the beach. Annie got to surf and she's surrounded by friends. It's really nice. It makes me tear up a little. What the hell is wrong with me? Maybe I'm getting my period or something.
Cooper tries to reconcile with Charlotte and she gets mad at him for loving her, even though she's a horrible, horrible woman. I side with Charlotte. She sucks, don't love her Cooper! Love Violet! Instead, he grabs her in a hug and she cries and they kiss and I vomit in my mouth a little. Sorry but... I hate Charlotte.
Sam & Naomi
Sam is back from his trip and wants more advice about Sonya (it took him THREE months to take her on a trip? For calling out his ex-wife's name in bed? Geez.) Naomi has to bow out on the advice stuff to go have some fun of her own. This causes Sam to break up with Sonya. He SAYS it's because Sonya isn't his best friend but I think it's so he can get back together with Naomi because he LURVES her.

This was a really good episode, but all the one month latering threw me a bit - I guess Private Practice has now leapfrogged ahead of Grey's in time, sicne that one is still in the aftermath of the crossover. Also, while the medical cases make sense from month to month, the personal stories seem a bit stretched out -- for example, we're supposed to buy that Sam was in the doghouse with his girlfriend for months about the Naomi comment and waited four months to break up with her? Also, that the guys would wait around that long without findng out the paternity is a little nuts.
Good for Addison for not going there with the married guy. She's growing finally, showing the independence and confidence that she had on Grey's but has been consistantly denied by the Private Practice writers. Unfortunately, the promos indicate this guy is back next week. I hope nothing happens with him.
Also, as you brought up, I'm not sure how this is going to affect the pregnancy. If they stick to this timeline, I think she's still got a couple of months left, since all of the episodes we saw since she found out she's pregnant up to now have been over a span of maybe a couple weeks in show timeline. Therefore, March sweeps is still a bit early. I'd expect she will probably give birth during May sweeps...perhaps the finale?
Oh, how I hate, hate, hate that Charlotte character. What a spoiled brat. How ca she run a hospital and a clinic and be such a immature person. Does not compute. And, how can the Cooper character stay with her. He's a wuss, too.
I find it hard to believe that Dr. Barnes, a doctor with a wife having a difficult pregnancy, never bothered to find out who his wife's doctor was and have a consult with him/her to find out exactly how his wife was doing.
Also hate Charlotte. Nothing to like there -- at all!
I love charlotte and cooper, they are adorable together. i think its wierd if they try to make something happen between violet and cooper, it is possible for a guy and girl to just be friends.... they need to start exploring that relationship instead of making all relationships about love/physical attraction. cooper and charlotte are two pieces to a puzzle, so good together.
also in a wierd way i kind of want to see more the married doctor who was hitting on addison.
I KNEW Barnes was married! I also belive that Shonda will make Addison sleep with him, bc she WILL NOT let someone not be a cheater on her shows. (Think she has issues???)
The little girl who played Annie was Awesome! I am on Team Charlotte and strongly wish Cooper would dump Violet. Charlotte should not have cheated with the walking STD Archer, but there is a HUGE difference between cheating on your boyfriend and Adultery
Violet is the one who should grow up. She'd an adult for heaven sake not a pregnemt teenager! Why does she need Cooper to live with her?! It's absurd.
Sorry - pregnant
I love Charlotte and Cooper together. At least we've seen some growth with Charlotte, unlike most of the other characters on this show. Violet is the one I can't stand.
I can't stand Violet. She is the most selfish character. She should let Cooper go have his life, he's not her boyfriend. Also, she should find out who her baby's father is. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she's on the old side to be having a baby, don't they do amnios on 40+ yr. old women anyway? I am a little upset that Addison's new guy is married b/c I thought they had great chemistry (and I like that actor)but I don't think they should start an affair. For goodness sake, his pregnant wife is on bed rest and Addison is her doctor, there is no justification for the two of them to start sleeping together.
