'House' Urine-Go-Braugh!
If nothing else, House wins this week for the most inventive recognition of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day. Green urine!
The POTW works at a nursing home and comes in seizing and peeing the luck o' the Irish. Taub takes her for a faker, explaining that a common Alzheimer's medication can cause the lemon to go lime and the seizures are performance art. Which ends up being correct, much to House's dismay. The POTW comes clean and admits that the real reason she is there is because there is a cat in the nursing home who only sleeps next to the patients who are about to die. And it slept next to her and freaked her right out.
Taub and House spend much of the episode fighting. Perhaps because Taub was right first. Perhaps because House just can't help himself from picking at other people's scabs. House believes that the root of it is the fact that Taub is a coward and is therefore a liability to his team or will quit. Either way, he's screwed. So, in the meantime, he decides to make Taub's life as miserable as his own. The timing of this friction perfectly coincides with an old school chum of Taub's, who shows up with the life Taub wants, as a CEO with a fancy office.
So much so, that Taub asks him for a job - which he can't provide. Instead, Taub invests in the guy's next medical device. It's as if he's trying to prove he's not afraid to take risks, which is all well and good. But before making an investment commitment, you may want to do a little bit of research. Especially if you are already in financial straits. Also, quitting your job based on said investment is poorly thought out. Luckily House doesn't accept his resignation and tells him to bring bear claws when he comes back the next day to beg for his job back. Which means I am not at all surprised when the CEO turns out to be a total fraud. To his credit, Taub does bring the bear claws.
Good-bye Kitty feeds into all the superstitions when it snuggles up to a coma patient who dies despite having been stable for over a year. House has some fun by flaunting his disbelief in all things hocus-pocus, much to the cautious Kutner's chagrin. But in the end, logic rules the day as death cat naps on House's computer keyboard, leading House to figure out that it was warmth the cat was after, not death. In the end, the patient's need to find meaning in the meaningless prevails, as she holds to the ideal that the cat chose that exact moment to nap on House's computer because a higher power set the ball in motion. Much like House's Rube Goldberg machine at the top of the episode. OH! Look! Full circle!
The Funny:
POTW: A cat predicted my death.
House: Cats make terrible doctors. Oh wait, that's women. You're screwed!
POTW: This is the cat - Debbie. Have you heard of her?
House: Without a last name....?
House: Come back later. I have some business to conduct with the Prince of Nigeria.
House: If I could disprove the existence of a omniscient god who lovingly guides us to the other side, I would. Cat version will have to do.
More blessed relief from the melodrama of ForeTeen, plus we got some insight on Taub. Although, I thought his wife was also successful, having socked away enough money to buy him a Porsche last season, so the financial straits is suspect. Then again, seeing how quick he was to invest with a guy he barely knew from high school, maybe he got scammed by Madoff too. But what did you think of his expression of unhappiness with his job? If Taub really quit, would you want Chase or Cameron back?

Very good episode. I really liked the death cat story. I can see how the nurse would be freaked out by it. Good acting all around. Glad they have reduced the dating games. I felt a little sorry for Taub, but most of his troubles are the result of his own choices. He is lucky House wouldn't take his resignation. As to your question who would replace Taub if he left, I don't think either Chase or Cameron would. Both seem happy in their jobs and neither seem to want to be under House any more, which is as it should be.
Okay episode, although disproving a psychic cat doesn't seem a challenge up to House's usual level of difficulty.
No Foreman/13 melodrama. What a relief! I don't mind 13 at all when all she has to do is look at a chart and say things like "white blood cell count is normal."
The jumping the shark visual reference was just a tiny bit cutesy for my tastes.
so was that it. the cat wanted to sleep on warm things and those people were all sick and had a temperature so the cat slept on them bc they were warm and they just happened to die too? and how did house just figure it was appendicitus then?
did that fake ceo guy even get taub a small job or did he just offer him a fake small investment so he would get taub's money?(and just pretended that he also had rich people that were investing two million dollars in it also)
Just wanted to add that last episode Wilson mentioned introducing House to his brother. I was hoping that scene would be in this episode and was disappointed that it wasn't.
To Jordan:
The CEO was a con man He didn't have a job to offer Taub. He took other people's money using the same con that he used with Taub but he was arrested before he got Taub's money. We don't know how much he got from the other people he conned.
YES, I want Taub, or Kutner, or mostly, 13 to leave. I want more air time for Cameron and Chase but don't want them back on House's team.
How funny was the CLINIC DUTY scene with House playing with his cars and stuff.
I, too, was disappointed that Wilson and House didn't vist Danny as suggested last episode.
Green pee for ST. PATRICK'S DAY.....LOL!!
WHY did the cat....Debbie with no last name, come to Taub at the end of the show.
Did she just smell the donuts or is Taub in more trouble than he knows?????
They should've included a jump the shark Goldberg in that ridiculous episode where he hands the gun back to his captor...with other hostages still in the room! That basically did it for me. It seems like everyone (including the writers) are kind of over it.
Loved the "jump the shark" reference for all those people whining that House is no good anymore. If it's so bad, why are you obviously still wathcing it?
And it wasn't that Taub was investing with a guy from high school that he barely remembered. He DIDN'T remember him b/c he never went ot school with him. The whole thing was a con, and he connned the other guys with the same story.
And why is Kutner such a wuss about cats? They're awesome!
Wait, you missed the "That never happened" line when House accidentally went "death-testing" with Debbie and found a coma patient allergic to cats!
And "A" - have you had *your* alpha waves messed with?
For the Cameron/Chase lovers - they can't come back. People can only take House for so long before he drives them crazy. Except Foreman, who is more like House than he'd care to admit. Taub's misery at being with House is now more evident.
House needs to keep replacing its diagnosis team, I think the writers have done a great job with that. It wouldn't be any fun for House to torment Chase and Cameranon anymore - been there, done that.
