'Desperate Housewives': Next time, put your phone on silent mode
Marc Cherry brought out the big guns (literally) on "Desperate Housewives" tonight, with plenty of action along with a healthy dose of humor to lighten things up. Keep it up, Marc!
At long last, we discover Dave's murder plan. It's...not as foolproof as one would expect, for a plan that's been in the making for years. Once he, Mike, and Katherine are out in the woods, he'll send his guests on a hike, follow them, shoot Katherine, and blame it on illegal poachers. Giant flaw: You don't really get more than one shot, do you? I mean, it's not like poachers would accidentally send a spray of bullets her way. And Dave's one shot is interrupted by Edie, who's read the faxed article pointing out Mike as the driver in the accident. (Note: Does anyone really have a fax machine that uses fax-specific paper these days?) She texts Dave: "I know everything, come home now," and the noise startles him and makes him miss his shot.
Poor guy just can't catch a break, can he? Everyone heads home, where Edie learns a valuable lesson about how to deal with one's murderous husband. What not to do: Get drunk, confront him alone, call him a freak, and try to call his victim to explain everything. I'm not saying she asked to be strangled half to death, of course...that one's on Dave. I'm just saying she didn't do a lot to prevent it. Driving away, she swerves to avoid a burgling Orson (yeah, I'll get to that) and hits a telephone pole, electrocuting herself. Is she dead? Alive? It's a total mystery. Unless you saw the previews for next week. Or read the many spoilers.
So...Orson. Wow. It comes out in therapy that he steals to hurt Bree, who's emasculated him, saving her passion for the company. Kyle MacLachlan is pretty great in the therapy scene, but that doesn't prevent me from wanting to emasculate Orson myself later on when he tries to pressure her into selling the company: "Her sole ambition now is to be Mrs. Orson Hodge...I'm glad I'll be the only one she's cooking for." Those two can't come up with a happy medium between castrating career woman and barefoot (well, high-heeled) in the kitchen?
Bree's speech about practicing what she preaches makes sense, but so does Andrew's point that if Orson loves her, he should want her to do what makes her happy! And for Orson to stomp all over that, blackmailing her with threats of more theft, well...good for Bree in deciding not to sell. Unfortunately, this pushes Orson into breaking-and-entering territory, and he gets clobbered by an old lady on his first attempt, staggering into the street and pulling off his ski mask just in time for Edie to hit a pole swerving around him. And he just runs away, continuing his winning streak tonight.
In less heavy news, Lucy, Carlos's ex, is a total slave driver. Awful. And neither Gaby or Lynette is taking it well. Though I gotta say, if it's between a couple hours sleep and sex...well...maybe Gaby needs to be more understanding toward Carlos. Especially since she practically forced him into taking the job. But she's realizing that they're slipping back into past patterns - ones that didn't end well for them. (I loved the scene where Gaby tried to seduce Carlos with sex on the kitchen table, "like old times," before realizing it wasn't sex with Carlos she was remembering). Lynette is the hero of the day, however, using the Solis children to orchestrate Lucy's ouster. And that whole blow up scene was awesome. Good work, Lynette.
Karl has enrolled his son in Susan's school. And the kid is probably going to grow up to be a serial killer, based on his drawings. That said, I don't think she needed to drag the situation to the principal's office on the poor kid's first day. Especially since it turns out his mom left them a few weeks ago, and the drawings are of his mom getting stabbed. Anger issues? Yes. Fair? Also yes.
What do you think of Dave's big plan? Is anyone on Orson's side? Were you hoping Lucy would stick around longer? Was Tom and Gaby's "girl talk" the cutest thing ever?

I also loved the therapy scene but beyond that Orson did nothing to woo me over.
I've gotta say I think Tom and Gaby's girl talk was my favorite bit of the episode. It was a cl***ic little scene and I loved Tom's answer to are you uncomfortable?
"A little... go on".
And it's good to see that him and Lynette have found a comfortable balance at last after all the back and forth, fighting for a career those two have done over the years.
Also I really hope Edie is alive but come on does this not remind anyone of the accident Orson caused with Mike? Yet another example of Orson running from an accident.
(Ok so he had meant the Mike thing whereas Edie had been drunk at the time but it still gave me a little deja vu).
We agree on the Orson-car accident seeming deja vu. We were hoping she would hit him and we would finally be done with his character which has added nothing to this show. He wouldn't be missed like Edie will.
Thought it was funny how Edie has always been shown driving a nice sporty car, yet last night she takes off in a dull gray 4-door Camry. That immediately tipped you off that the car was going to be in a wreck of some sort.
So will someone find the crumpled up fax paper and start piecing things together about Dave? We're voting for Mrs McCloskey to be the one since it's been rumored that Lily Tomlin is returning so they must be up to something together.
The best scenes again were with Gaby and her family. Loved that the ***** fat cow got canned by Carlos. Now we can see Lynette in that role and the fights between her and Carlos beginning.
Orson may be a sexist, but Bree was the hypocrite. So, I didn't feel any sympathy for her.
Orson's life went down the toilet the moment Bree shamed him into confessing what he had done to Mike. Yet, Mike, who refused to feel any guilt over what he had done to Dave's family, gets away clean. Even worse, Bree and her first husband, Rex Van DeKamp, had covered up Andrew's manslaughter act that ended up killing Carlos' mom back in Season 1.
Until Bree confesses that little bit to Orson, she can preach and cry about feminine empowerment all she wants. She is still a hypocrite.
Yea to Lynette for exposing Lucy, although I kinda liked Lucy before she was revealed to be such a slavedriver.
I LOVED Gaby & Tom's little coffee chat and had to replay it for my husband. It was Great!!
It would sure be great if Mrs. McClusky exposed Dave after all the mean stuff he's done to her. And I think it's pretty cool that she and Edie have gotten to be friends, going out for drinks and running errands. Maybe Edie's not so bad, after all. I hope she pulls through...
I loved last night's episode but there is something which doesn't add up..
How did Mike get away with murder this time? With the criminal past he has, no way a judge would have let him go on the car accident that killed Dave's wife and daughter.. and when I think of it was is really Mile driving anyway?
Edie's death was so cause and effect to me. i mean the scene with her and dave was brilliant and finally Edie gets to do a little bit of acting outside of being a slut. her death was cause and effect because if Bree would have sold her company and made orson happy then orson would not have stole that night and then edie would not have swerved her car to miss orson and then crash into a telephone pole tht would eventually electricute her. But her death was kinda cool.
Lynnette and Gaby make a good team. I love how lucy yelled at Gaby's kids and Janitor (who she thought was their mom) One thing though, what is Gaby's second daughter's name. I just can not figure it out.
Everything else was predictable and boring. Karl's son is going to be a future Emo kid and maybe a future killer. Before the season ends, Bree will have a divorce lawyer but her and Orson are too perfect so they will eventually get back together.
I loved last night's episode but something doesn't add up..
How did Mike get away with murder with the criminal past and record that he has..
And when I think about it was her really driving the car the night of the car accident that killed Dave's wife and daughter?
Please kill the Orson storyline already!! Not clever, not funny, not entertaining!!
And what's up with no new show for a month!!!
julie and Rosie, what show are you watching?
The car accident occured at an intersection where a Stop sign had previously been knocked down. Either Mike and Susan's car or Dave's wife and daughter's car thus simply cruised into the intersection without stopping, leading to the fatal accident. Neither driver to blame. Charges dropped. No "murder!" Get it?
