Jonathanroberts_belindacarlisle_dancingwiththestars_s8_240 Are you guys ready for our first ever dance-off on "Dancing with the Stars"? I like this new format, I'm excited to see the performances. We kick things off with a performance by 6 of the pros set to the Calloway Boogie by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. I love BBVD, just for the record.

We check-in with Steve-O and his back. He went to the hospital but it appears that everything is doing alright. Not great, but good enough that he can continue. With a check-in to the judges' leaderboard, we have in the bottom 3 Steve/Karina, Steve-O/Lacey, and Ty/Chelsie. I really want to see more of Chelsie Hightower because she was one of my SYTYCD faves. Also, to be up front about my bias: I'm from Iowa and therefore am required to love Shawn Johnson to pieces. And I do.

The first 8 couples who do not have to dance-off are Lawrence/Edyta, Shawn/Mark (yay!), Chuck/Julianne, David/Kym, Denise/Max, Melissa/Tony, Lil Kim/Derek, and Gilles/Cheryl. We now take a break for a "survival guide" filler segment. It includes such great tips as "don't trip" and "psych out your opponents." And Cameron presents all of this to us while dressed like a Chippendales dancer.

The Macy's Stars of Dance number tonight is a tribute to Busby Berkeley musicals. Is there a pool they can dive into? If not, there really should be. The dance was choregraphed by Mickey Rooney's son. Both are in attendance tonight. Mickey Rooney is still alive? Huh.

The Nepotism Performance is brought to you by Jewel, singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" while Chelsie and Dmitry perform. Chelsie's amazing legs are being shown off to perfection. Dmitry needs to button his shirt. Jewel also sings some verse about rubbing your eyes and daffodils. Who does she think she is? You live in your car for awhile and suddenly you get to make up new lyrics to a classic? There's also a last high note that shatters everyone's glasses.

Our last 3 safe couples are Steve-O/Lacey, Holly/Dmitry, and Ty/Chelsie. So Belinda/Jonathan and Steve/Karina are dancing tonight. The dance-off works like this: the public votes are kept (for 50%) while the couples are dancing for improved judges' votes.

Belinda/Jonathan choose to reprise their salsa. Hey, Wynonna Judd is there! Huh. Anyway, there are some goofs in the routine and Belinda definitely looks awkward. But there's no way she should go home over Steve. Speaking of Belinda, did anybody see her Playboy spread at age 42? It was awesome. I hope I look that good when I'm 42. Hell, I don't look that good now. Anyway, the judges have some compliments but tell her she needs to watch her footwork. Her new scores are 5, 6, 6, which is one less point from last night. Yikes. Carrie Anne is mean.

Steve/Karina choose to redo their quickstep. I do love their song choice, by the way. The second time around is very cute and spunky. Steve is just so awkward. Man, I'm torn. The judges love his energy and entertainment value. Their scores are 6, 5, 6, which is a tie from last night.

We get the results and... Belinda/Jonathan are eliminated. Wow! I'm a little surprised. I would think the type of people who vote for this show would prefer her to dorky Steve. Oh well. Neither one is that awesome. Does Samantha Harris's dress have pockets? What is she resting her hand in? Is that a pouch? I must know! How weird!

Belinda and Jonathan dance us out as Tom tells us that next week is either the Fox Trot or the Samba. Excellent. See you guys later and thanks for letting me guest recap.

Check out dialidol.com. Steve may be with us for a while.

Those judges were REALLY hard on Belinda Carlisle. Chuck Wicks was having an out of body experience, barely moved on the dance floor, and got a higher score. She wasn't the best dancer, but definitely not the worst.

Definitely thought the Woz would go before Belinda, but clearly I thought wrong. Apparently his amazing enthusiasm and good spirits brought in the votes. Good for him!

Stars of Dance number was pretty hot, too. And jump back, it's Chelsea Traille from SYTYCD! Awesome. She's so cute. Happy to see her still dancing!

Tsk, tsk, production team you totally missed the Lacey/Steve-O reaction shot! Lacey looked so sad before the reveal and I'll bet her about face would've been nice to see. D'oh!

Ah, Samantha... It's okay, "choreographer" is a big word and you had only practiced "choreography." Next time, honey. *sigh* But, dude!! She's got a ballgown with pockets! That's flippin awesome. I want cool, hidden pockets in my fancy dresses!

Shiny new paddles apparently = hard to read and therefore they were the first to be eliminated, followed by Belinda. =)

So did anybody else think Cheryl's dress in the opening number looked mighty familiar? Are the DWTS costumers *gasp* reusing old dresses from previous seasons??

Now there's a sign we're having some tough economic times!

I thought Edyta's dress looked familiar, as well. I don't think this is a bad thing; I also think it's pretty typical in the real dance world for costumes to be recycled and re-worn.
And I'm totally cool with Belinda's dismissal. Now we won't have to see any more of those hideous, panties-revealing handstands! (I feel bad for Jonathan, though. He deserves better partners.)

Enjoyed the 2 performances where the pros danced. Good to see the 2 show newbies featured too!

Not too sad about Belinda. She seemed really nice and she wasn't the worst but she wasn't a favorite either.

Not really liking the new danceoff thing yet. Don't really want to see the worst dance again, rather the best like they usually do. It seems silly to think they will improve much over one day and that the judges new scores will really make much difference. They should just keep it the old way or have the judges pick like people said above. And If they were so afraid of public backlash to actually allow the judges to choose in the end who leaves over the people they shouldnt have changed the format at all.

But maybe the danceoff will have more significance and more worth near the end of the season as the contestants left are all pretty good.

The title of this recap makes me cough:

HACK! HACK! HACK!

Dimitry is HOT HOT HOT!! He need to keep that shirt unbuttoned! I love the Go-Go's!

List the total points of the contestants in your comment section. On the show they tell and show you the results, but too quick to write it down.

Some people have bets on who goes for the Pizzas you know.

Believe it or not, Jewel didn't add any new lyrics. Those were in the original song as it was written. The song was almost left out of the movie, so we're really lucky they just cut a verse out instead.
