'Ghost Whisperer': Sigma Chai Lattes for everyone!
This week's Ghost Whisperer features a big anti-Greek message, sidelining Sam and Melinda's new relationship. And Melinda seems to think lying is the best way to get this guy. How un-Valentiney.
The story of the week starred some of those wacky Rockland University students and their laugh-a-minute hazing ways. Except this hazing situation included a remorseful yet dead sorority sister from 1968 who decided to whisk a current pledge away to show everyone that sororities are bad. They make everyone feel terrible! They're unfair and cruel! The story seemed to be interesting in the beginning, when I thought it was going to be a sibling rivalry/turf war thing, but the end turned out to be boring. If they're going to pad the season and stretch out the primary plotlines, at least make us jump a couple of times. I'm missing the scary. Where's the scary?
What about the more riveting plotline? Or maybe not so riveting. Everyone's got secrets - skeletons in the closet that you'd rather your new crush not know about - that old tattoo, the weird family member, or the state you had to leave in a hurry. But Melinda has a doozy and she's telling Sam lots of lies to cover up her ghost whispering ways. She tells Sam that she's doing one thing when she's off doing another. And while he may not have a memory, he is savvy enough to figure out that she's point-blank lying with a smile on her face. Instead of calling her out on it though, which I wouldn't do either one kiss into a relationship, he pulls back at the end. She may be off saving the world, and missing sorority pledges, but she could just tell the truth about it. She doesn't even have to mention the ghosties yet.
Which leads me to two questions: What did Melinda do before, with Jim? There had to be that moment that he found out. I've watched this show since the beginning, but for the life of me I can't remember the details of that history. Anyone else remember? There had to be a moment of realization for Jim. There's going to have to be that for Sam, and soon. Like, not at the end of the season. It just can't drag on that long. I'm feeling bipolar when I watch this show lately. I love it. I hate it. I love it. I hate it.
But more importantly, what's Melinda's main priority now? Her soulmate is squatting in another's body, and she's going to blow it by telling stupid lies about it? She's changed her entire tune regarding how she handles the dead this season, giving Jim special treatment and instead of focusing on how to nuance this situation, she's trying to wear too many hats at the same time. It's maddening. I'm still trying to give this show a chance, but it's exhausting. There are a million different plotlines, and all of them floundering.
I still miss the city of the dead under Grandview.
Some thoughts...
-
I love how before setting off to find the dead pledge Melinda has time to put on a jaunty crocheted cap and braid her hair.
-
I want to buy a copy of Eli's book. When did he have time to write a book?
-
Did you guys see the gossip that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy are getting friendlier? Not that I read stuff like that or anything.
What about you? Frustrated like me?

It was nice to recognize the older blonde soriety sister as Jody Sawyer from Center Stage. Man, she hasnt aged at all! Where's she been???
Regarding Jim and Melinda: From what I remember, Melinda and Jim met during a fire at an apartment building. She was outside on the sidewalk and told him there was another person in the burning building, and he wanted to know how she knew. Im kinda fuzzy about the details, but their first date had something to do with a hot dog vendor cart? Because for an anniversary present during one episode, they were both trying to find the right gift that had something to do with a vendor cart. Anyway, she told him right away about her 'gift' to see his reaction because she had been hurt so badly in college when she told a guy she thought she loved. Its kinda vague, but Im think that's what I remember. Hope that helps!
Sissers, I don't remember it that way. One of the mysteries of the show is that we don't know how Jim learned about Melinda's gift.
All we know is that when they were at the "Umbrella Room" that night after the fire Jim question her about how she could be so sure someone was still in the building. And Melinda just walked away but then turned and said "Maybe some day I'll tell you."
The next time we saw Mel and Jim was at their wedding where he seemed to know all about what she could do. I suspect that when Sim finds out what Melinda can do it will be very much like the way Jim found out.
BTW, I thought this was a very good episode.
Sim is good, I think I'll use that. I wonder if when Sim finally learns what Melinda does if they will go back over how Jim first found out? It would be a good opportunity for some flashbacks, to fill in the blanks of their past.
Am I the only one who watches this show on mute?
First off, this was always a great episode of GW! I liked seeing the Ghost Whisperer and Ghost Listener work a little bit more together this week.
Next, the issue of this week was the greek system/hazing. Now I must admit that the greek system in college is ok and can be really fun like in the ABC Family show "GREEK". However, I must say that hazing is wrong and is like tortue. There is just no need for hazing and should be completely removed from the greek system.
Finally, I don't know why Melinda continues to blatanly to Sam/Jim's face. Why does she still not trust Sam/Jim? I just have a really bad feeling that Melinda's lying is going to come back and bite her in a big way down the road.
She is probably trying to delay telling him because then she would have to tell him that he is really her husband's ghost.
I think she's afraid of his reaction, considering the one time she tried to tell him he looked at her like she was crazy. However, she could've just told him where she was without telling him why she was there and that she was talking to the girl's ghost.
This will most definitely come back to bite her in the hiney very soon.
I put the show on MUTE when Mel and Eli are on the screen.
SERIOUSLY, THEY GOTTA GET RID OF JAMIE KENNEDY!
I thought it was a great episode. I love how Delia is now on board with the ghost happenings. But, why did Melinda have to lie to Sam. All she had to say was that she and Eli were helping to look for the girl. And I wonder just how accepting we would all be of Sam if we were seeing his face all the time and not our beloved Jim's.
I have been totally disillusioned with this show since they killed off Jim. I have tried to give the show a chance to flesh out this new character "Sam" but I have to say I am not impressed. I was an avid supporter of this show when it first debuted, but think I will have to part ways with Melinda and her ghosts.
