'Brothers & Sisters': "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
Once again, it's a festival of dubious decision-making on Brothers & Sisters. Will the Walkers ever learn -- and if they did, would the show be half as entertaining?Family
Nora goes up to Berkley to meet Ryan, who is shocked to see her. Apparently he'd mentioned wanting to talk, but he didn't expect her to appear the next day... Oh, Ryan. Watch the show and see what you're getting into, ok?
Ryan proceeds to run hot and cold with Nora: I need to talk about this! I don't want to talk about this! I need help! You're not my mom! You don't understand what I'm going through! Wait, come back and talk to me! I feel for the kid, but he's got to make up his mind. Nora eats it up, and ends up buying him a plane ticket and inviting him to come down to Ojai to meet the family. Because meeting the whole passel of Walker siblings wouldn't be traumatic AT ALL. Ryan backs out at the last minute. I guess that means he's out of the picture forever! Yeah, right...
Meanwhile, Rebecca flees to New York to stay with David after figuring out about Tommy's perfidy and fighting with Justin. She refuses to pick up Justin's or Holly's calls. David knows something's up, but Rebecca says she just wanted to hang out with her dad. When David doesn't buy it, Rebecca goes off in a huff and David tracks her down and apologizes. David then accompanies Rebecca back to LA to see Holly again. Oy.
Business
Holly interrogates Justin about where Rebecca is, and he lets slip something about Tommy and business. She goes through Rebecca's desk and finds the information she'd gathered about Tommy scouting out the orchard months before the deal. Holly goes to Saul with the contract and asks for help interpreting this one weird clause -- who or what is Omni, and should I be worried? Once Saul figures out what's going on, he covers for Tommy -- nothing to see here, move along! -- but he's furious. He drags Tommy over and reads him the riot act. Tommy admits to raiding the pension fund to buy the land, but he's unrepentant: It's our company, not Holly's! We'll see about that -- Holly takes the contract to the lawyers, who figure out that Tommy owns Omni and that this is a ploy to force Holly out.
Politics
Last week, Robert confirmed to Kitty that he was running for governor. Kitty says she's fine, just fine! with the decision (and his lack of consultation), but Kevin predicts Kitty will explode soon. Yep -- in an interview to promote her book, Kitty drops choice quotes like "The Republican party has lost its way; it's not my party anymore," and " My husband doesn't need an aphrodisiac -- he does just fine with women on his own." Robert is PISSED -- "Is it that hard for you to try to present this marriage as even remotely stable?" It sure is, Kitty says, and it doesn't help that you're more peevish about campaign issues than the fact that I just said our marriage is in trouble.
Robert tells Kevin to kill the story, and Kevin refuses -- this is about your marriage, not your job, so suck it up. So Robert and Kitty talk, and Robert pledges that if he has to choose between his wife and the governorship, he's going with Kitty. Kitty is so touched that she tells him she's fine with him running. But the next day, she discovers that Robert interpreted that conversation as permission to kill her interview.

Winner: Rebecca! She may not be a Walker, but she can still annoy with the best of them. Congratulations?
Highlights, thoughts and odds and ends:
- David reacts to the news that Rebecca and Justin are an item: "I didn't see THAT coming," Oh, David -- you were the only one, then.
- Ryan isn't dealing well with the news about his parentage, and he's taking it out on Nora: "I thought I was gullible" and "you don't know much, do you?" are two of his choice quotes. Kid it's your first full episode. Do you really want to register on the Annoy-o-Meter this soon? Nora's just trying to help!
- I had to appreciate that David was willing to call Rebecca on her "Just thought I'd stop by and hang out" line. Pity he backed off later, apologizing for asking for info because he hadn't earned the right yet. As far as I'm concerned, when someone takes up valuable sofabed space, you have the right to demand an explanation. Rebecca would have the right to say "Stuff's going on, and I don't want to talk about it," but just lying through her teeth wasn't acceptable.
- The LOOK on Holly's face when she brings the contract to Saul and realizes that he's hiding something... brrrr! There's going to be hell to pay

Hmm, regarding Holly saving Ojai: why is it that I'm not exactly believing that argument? When Tommy and Holly wanted to get Walker Landing underway, they got Sarah's backing. When Sarah wanted their help because Saul screwed up (he was mostly at fault), Holly decided that business is business, family and emotions cannot be involved. So she would not bail out Ojai, they would buy it out instead. They would also fired Kevin (kind of) as the company's lawyer. BUT when it came to giving her unqualified, inexperienced daughter a position she should/would never have been hired for in the first place, suddenly, family was primordial. Yeah, I know Tommy acted as a jerk AND illegally, but quite frankly, I understand the guy. I'm now hoping the board evict both her and Tommy from the company! Or that the board asks Sarah to be back as main CEO! Because as much as I want Tommy to fail in this stupis endeavor, I want Holly to be taken down more! Holly having complete control of Ojai and Walker Landing is a chilling perspective.
Correction: Tommy didn't raid any pension fund. He was referring to the fact that William had depleted the pension fund back in Season 1 (to fund the $30 million land deal). Tommy was arguing that he was similarly "bending" the rules to push Holly out of Ojai. He wasn't saying he did anything with the pension fund this time around. (There would be no need, besides. The whole point of the transaction was to induce Holly to sell her shares.)
I'm pretty sure he did raid the pension fund. Saul wanted to know where Tommy got the money to buy the land in the first place and that's when the pension fund got mentioned...
Ryan is completely unstable and not in the amusing Walker way.
Robert is such a boring and annoying character. Such smugness! I can't stand him. I'm hoping the "shocking death" next episode is him. He adds nothing to the show. And after this marathon election we've all gone through in real life, I'm really not interested in being immersed into it even more on a nighttime soap.
Doesn't anyone care to speculate on the coming attractions... the death of someone... seems like an omission even in the recap!!!
Is it me, or was it really weird that David knew exactly where Rebecca was after she stormed out? Last I checked, NYC had more than one place for one to run off and drown one's misery?
I'm with Scott. Tommy didn't take from the Pension...even Holly admitted they used the shares from Ojai to purchase the vineyard. That was Tommy's plan, get Holly's shares towards the purchase of the vineyards and roll them into the holding company (Omni) so then Tommy would have all her shares. He just mentioned the Pension because his father did something questionable to save the business back in the day and now he thinks he is justified because he is doing the same thing. But Tommy didn't take from the Pension.
I think this will end up with both Holly and Tommy out and Sarah coming back to run Ojai...just my feeling.
I wonder who the death will be next week? Could it be the birth mother? Would it be a main character like Robert or Tommy maybe? I certainly hope it isn't the baby!!!!
Love The Annoy-o-Meter Sarah!
I think we're losing Tommy. The actor is supposed to be out of the picture, so that's my guess. Losing a Walker will be a major family loss, big time. But will it be. . .MURDER?
I read that Balthazar Getty is leaving the show - that nobody in the cast gets along with him, so maybe they're killing him off.
As fact as the Annoyance Meter - they're ALL awful but I'm still ****ed at Kitty from last week for essentially forgetting, you know, that she was going to be a mother and thinking it was so inconsequential that she could take that new job.
They're all annoying because they LIE to each other.
Justin's annoying because he always seems like he needs to blow his nose.
Tommy's annoying because he was stupid enough to stop being a respected attorney and go to work for Robert with whom he's barely gotten along in the past.
Nora's annoying, but I'm a mother so I can forgive her a lot of that. :)
