'Smallville': The Techno-Exorcism Of Chloe Sullivan
Clark Kent doesn't strive to become a legend, yet Smallville sets up the icon for greatness. To wit, they bring three heroes from the 30th century back in time to ensure Master Kent doesn't lose his will or his way. It's a good thing, too, as Lana isn't much help to begin with.
These Spoilers can't fly... yet.
The Kent Barn is littered with the aftereffects of a wedding reception gone horribly wrong. We find Lana wandering through the debris, picking up a bouquet along the way. Clark whooshes into the barn, not able to find Chloe. Lana appears to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown, but pulls it together long enough to depart for Isis. No sooner does she leave than an axe-wielding badass leaps from a portal, leaving quite the flesh wound for Clark to deal with. He goes in for the kill when three young adults enter from the same portal, knocking him down and removing his class ring, sending him back from whence he came. Clark's new friends just happen to be a Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century. Blue Guy (Garth) seems super psyched just to be meeting this guy he's idolized. Clark isn't ready to deal with their shenanigans, whooshing off... except the super best friends don't let him get too far. They're all there together because of him; that his Kryptonian influence will spread beyond Earth. The guy dressed in Black (Rokk) finds the crystal used to extract Brainiac, disappointed to see it destroyed. Clark says not to worry as Brainiac has been taken care of, but Black isn't quite on board.
The Fortress in black just doesn't have that warm and funny feeling like the original. Davis awakens and sees Chloe not quite herself. As she inspects him, he's shocked at her revelation that he's not of the human persuasion. Chloe/Brainiac knows of his ever increasing transformations. Davis reiterates his love for Miss Sullivan, but it falls on deaf ears as she/it confesses to having played on his feeling to lure him there. Davis is done with the whole thing, but she/it isn't. Chloe/Brainiac reveals he needs only 12 more days in the chrysalis to become what he really is: Doomsday.
Down on the Farm, Clark seems absolutely sure Brainiac is defeated. The Legion seems to disagree, positive this is the day Brainiac is truly defeated. Since the crystal is destroyed, the only way to kill Brainiac is to kill the host as well. Clark's absolutely not ready for that kind of truth. He whooshes away from the Legion, but they catch up. Blue thinks they should be having their conversations in the sky, but Clark says he can't fly. The Legion run down a list of all the regulars from the lore of Superman regulars, yet Chloe's name is not one they reveal. Clark whooshes away once again, leaving behind a somewhat dejected Legion, especially Blue.
Lana is reviewing files at Isis when the Red girl (Irma) arrives out of nowhere. Red wants Lana to convince Clark to kill Chloe, but she won't do it. Red came to her because Lana knows about sacrifice, and that hearing the worst case scenario from a friend might be a better approach. Lana flatly states that it isn't an option... except deep down she knows that Red is telling the truth. Meanwhile, Blue and Black make their way to Chloe's apartment. Black can't believe Chloe was involved with Isis, except he says Lana founded it.
Determined to end this once and for all, Clark makes his way back to the darkened Fortress. He calls for Jor-El, but Chloe/Brainiac shows up instead. She says he's gone and never coming back. Allison Mack is so deliciously evil; the writers need to take her to the dark side more often. Brainiac's plan: suck all the information out of the world, leaving Doomsday to easily destroy the rest. She/it tempts Clark to kill her and when he hesitates; our hero gets tossed across the fortress, whooshing away after the fact. I have to admit Davis looks quite cozy in his chrysalis.
It's a rainy day in Metropolis, and the Legion is choking on our heavily polluted air. Thank you CW for reminding us we're Free to be Green. Blue and Red are starting to lose the faith, but Black is determined to stay the course. The ever hyperactive Blue says they'll likely have to kill Chloe themselves to ensure their place in the future. Nearby at Isis, Clark pays a visits Lana. Using context clues, she makes it a point to search for power surges.
Chloe/Brainiac wanted to drain the world of its information, so what better starting point than the Daily Planet. She/it gets medieval on the newspaper computer system, sucking up every last savory word. By also draining those staring into said computers, she/it kills two birds with one stone. Across town, Lana pinpoints the new surge, but becomes an unwitting victim of Brainiac in the process. The Legion arrives at the Planet; Red taking the lead by using telepathy to take it down... except her mind games is no match for Brainiac. It does, however, provide just enough of a distraction for Blue and Black to team up to provide one hell of a pulse to knock she/it down. They place Chloe/Brainiac on the table. Blue produces a knife. He aims, but can't stab her. Black takes the knife, but Clark whooshes in just in time. Clark tries to appeal to their ethical side. It's a good thing he arrived when he did, as Red begins to "hear" the real Chloe.
Clark and the Legion return to the Farm, putting Chloe on a table in the Barn. The plan is for Blue to short circuit Brainiac with a static attack while Black extracts the nanobytes. As Brainiac wakes up, Black and Blue go to work. Out from the mouth pops a black orb, which when fully out, busts Davis loose from his chrysalis and frees the world from the iron grip of Brainiac. Clark stares at the black ball... the Legion promising to do make Brainiac a good guy from here on out. The real Chloe wakes up, feeling somewhat embarrassed she's been so much trouble while also feeling a whole lot dumber.
Clark arrives at Chloe's apartment to see her leaving for Star City. She thanks him for not giving up on her, hoping Clark would do what's best for the world and not her... if it ever came to that again.
Back at the Farm, Red is looking over photos when Lana arrives. Seems the boys have taken to fixing the barn. The Legion freely admits they wanted to take the easy way out, but because he didn't surrender to the popular idea is why Clark is the legend. Lana foolishly wants to know about the future for her and Clark. Red tells her she has to discover for herself, and that she's remembered for much more than just being with Clark. Before they leave for the 30th century, Blue wants the baseball Clark smacked across Smallville. Clark is more than happy to autograph it with his heat eyes. Preserve life at all costs... that the new Legion rule number one. They give Clark a ring for time travel, in case he ever wants to stop by for a visit.
In the end, Clark tells Lana that he's just starting down the road to greatness. Of course, he'll eventually have to deal with Doomsday, who is now back on the loose!
Next time on Smallville: John Jones has been shot, so Clark goes undercover to find who did it.

I love this episode, Allison Mack was great in it. I love all the references to Clark being Superman. Where is the gl***es, the cape. I am loving this season of Smallville, We need a 9th season.
WOW, this was a great episode. Allison Mack was amazing in her acting. I wish they would do 2 hour events for special episodes like this. It's always end of the world in the beginning and of course 50 mins later everything is wrapped up and Chloe is baking cookies. I am glad they didn't employ any memory erasing stunts and all remember the Legion, ALSO Chloe remembers Clark's secret, which makes sense.
Yes the Legion was HOT. Lightning Lad was way over excited. I thought he was gonna pounce on Clark. Imra wasn't even that excited, but this is not a complaint!
I would have to say that "Legion" was one of my favorite and best episodes of the entire series! If I had to rate the legion, Lighting Lad would be my #1, Saturn Girl #2, and Cosmic Boy #3. Also, Geoff Johns' writing hit this one out of the park, it was a homerun!
Lightning Lad was my favorite too. Would of loved to see him in tights!YES he did seem REALLY excited!!
The episode was good but to me it did not live up to the promotional build up ... Now don't get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed it since I have been legion fan since Mike Grell would draw them ... But I thought it could have been a little more intense and exiting ... Well, with that being said hopefully they would bring on Ultra Boy, Monel, Princes Projectra, and the Karate Kid ... I have really enjoyed Smallvile this past eight years and I am looking forward till the ninth season
The LSH > all!
I haven't watched much of the later seasons of Smallville, and haven't been tempted back. Chloe is too abused, and I maintain she is the character this continuity's Lois could never be.
But. I am a huge Legion fan and this was circled on my calendar.
It's about time they were featured somewhere- a 50 year old institution deserves some playtime!
I was fairly impressed with them, except their choice of attire and Rokk's need for a shave- this guy is much more Brandon Walsh.
How do they take Brainiac to the 31st C and call him B5? Whither Brainiac 2-4? I know, I know, too nerdy for a show that toys with continuity like Smallville.
Anywho, is it hoping too much for a sequel? The rest of the Fatal Five against the LSH! Ultra Boy! Cham! WILDFIRE! And the geek out moment when B5 meets Kara!
*sigh*
I'll take everyone's word for it that this was a step up and as long as they don't whack Manhunter, they'll stay on a roll.
@ Charles Q.:
If they bring Karate Kid next time, don't let Giffen near the script!!!!
Was a great episode, Johns a huge comic writer knows how to write a story like the legion which stayed true to the comic origins of "The Legion". Also, Red was Saturn Girl, Black was Cosmic Boy and blue was Lighting Lad.
Also the Persuader (also a comic villain) wasn't wearing a cl*** ring but a "legion flight ring", it enables legion members to fly, like they did in this episode. Also can facilitate time travel. Thats the ring they gave Clark.
The disappointment over Clark's lack of gl***es, cape, flying was all pretty funny.
Awesome!!! Clark is my future baby daddy ;) Please don't let this be the last season!!! NO!!
