'Private Practice': Ho Ho Ho.
Oceanside is quiet. Too quiet. The Private Practice patients are still being wooed away, and one of the Oceanside doctors is getting romanced as well. Speaking of romance, Pete and Violet are trying to figure out what they are to each other now, besides massively attracted to one another, and Addison is learning that perspective is different from the other side of the street.
The morning after the big hookup, a very relaxed Violet is cornered by Cooper, who knows straight out that she's had sex. But he doesn't get that it was with Pete. And Pete and Violet all intense on each other. The chemistry is running super high. After an electric moment in - what else - the elevator, Pete runs into Meg. Hey, Meg is back in town! She's missed him, but Pete can't say the same, and Violet definitely can't either. At dinner, Meg tries to get a solemn Pete to talk, but he's not opening up. She asks him if they're ok, and he says that they are. Liar. The next day, Pete approaches Violet, and they try to come to some kind of resolution. Violet says that if Pete is planning on a future with Meg, than he needs to suffer in silence instead of telling her the truth.
Later, after another charged moment in the hallway, the inevitable happens when Violet follows Pete back into his office. And the even more inevitable happens when Meg walks in on Violet and Pete in the middle of a rather passionate kiss. She turns around and leaves, and Pete runs after her. Pete says he didn't mean to hurt her, but Meg replies that she did, however, get hurt.
Cooper's 12-year-old patient Porter is diabetic and on an insulin pump, and he's not been taking good care of the tubing and gets a bit of an infection. Cooper presses him on it, and finds out that he and his father, Frank, have been sleeping in their car, driving around looking for work. Cooper tries to get Frank to understand that Porter needs a new pump in order to survive, and it will require a few days to get one in. When Cooper calls in the old pump information, he finds out it's registered to someone else. Cooper, realizing that things aren't adding up, calls the doctor who prescribed the pump, and finds out the kid the pump was registered to was kidnapped and all of Porter's stats match up to the kidnapped child.
Cooper wants to talk to Porter, but Sam wants to call the cops immediately. Porter and Frank comes back, and Cooper gets Porter (also known as Evan) to talk. Evan's mother's boyfriend was abusive, and Frank took him to protect him. During their conversation, Evan's blood sugar tanks, and he has a seizure. Frank begs Cooper to save Evan, saying he's all he has. Evan is rushed to the hospital, where Cooper pointedly tells Frank that his priority is Evan, and not to move. Evan stabilizes, and Cooper and Frank sit down to discuss the situation. Cooper wants him to turn himself in, but Frank refuses. Charlotte overhears them, and asks if there's a problem. Both men stop talking, but Charlotte realizes that something's fishy.
When Evan wakes up, Cooper explains that the cops need to be called, but that he will do everything he can to make it okay. Evan asks why he can't just let them go. Later, Charlotte corners Cooper and says that she's put two-and-two together, and called cops to save his medical license, but Cooper accuses her of calling them just to get even with him breaking up with her. Just before the cops show up, Cooper gets Frank and Evan out the door. Later, Charlotte confronts Cooper about helping Frank and Evan escape, but says that she covered for him, and now they're even on the whole ethics thing.
Addison's patient, Carly, is saving up for med school by working as a high-priced call girl. She's worried she may have picked up an STD, along with some of her call girl friends. Addison expresses some mild concern, much like someone would over a hangnail, and invites the rest of the girls over for check-ups. Later, the call girl contingency shows up like a sorority party in the lobby (and is immediately pegged as such by a visiting Kevin). Violet, and others, are upset that Addison is only treating their physical symptoms, and not addressing the larger issue of prostituting themselves, and Kevin agrees with them, citing various stats about their futures. Addison says that they're smart girls, just doing this for a few months. Uh, what? Later that evening, Carly calls Addison and tells her she's been hit by a client, but she's scared of the cops. Addison, who still doesn't freak out, gets up to head out, but Kevin stops her, telling her it's not that simple, and he's not going to let her go by herself. She goes anyway, but takes Sam with her. When they arrive, they find Carly badly beaten. Her lung is punctured, and to release the pressure in her chest, Addison does a Pulp Fiction-style needle-to-the-chest move. Carly doesn't want to go to the hospital because she's on her parents' insurance. Addison, continuing the uncharacteristic enabling, tells her that is she says she's Jane Doe and pays in cash, they won't ping the insurance.
The next morning, Addison comes to her senses, and tries to get Carly to quit the business. Carly asks her point blank how many jobs and loans she needed to become a doctor. Addison the Trustfund Baby can't answer that, but threatens to call Carly's parents, even if it does break the doctor/patient privilege. After thinking it over, Addison returns to talk to Carly some more. She tells her that our actions do define us, and her actions aren't simply a means to an end. She says, plainly, that she might want to think she's a student doing what she needs to do, but in truth, she's a hooker. Addison then says that Carly's choices leave her no choice but to not be her doctor anymore.
Dr. Lockhart pays a visit to Naomi. His patient Claudia has stage 2 lung cancer, and through his chemo and radition treatments, she's in remission. She now wants to get pregnant, and Lockhart wants Naomi to help her - but as a consultant - not as her primary doctor. Naomi originally balks at not being Claudia's primary doctor, and working for Charlotte's practice, but is intrigued by the challenge. Addison and Sam aren't happy about Naomi helping the enemy. Before Naomi can make up her mind, Lockhart brings Claudia down for a face-to-face with her. Naomi asks to talk to Claudia alone. She is worried about Claudia carrying a child, but Claudia makes a heartfelt plea, asking Naomi to give her a chance. Naomi gets emotional, and mad, and heads back to talk to Lockhart about being ambushed. Lockhart corners her again, speaking to her sense of adventure, getting her to want to help Claudia. Naomi talks to Violet about it, concerned she's being "bad" but Violet (who still has sex on the brain) can't focus on anything but Pete long enough to help Naomi out. In the end, Naomi decides to work with Lockhart. Addison and Sam aren't happy about it, but Naomi says she wants to be inspired again. Sam says she's selling out, and Addison says that once you start doing something, you can't stop.
In the end, Violet tells Cooper that she slept with Pete, but he, get this, doesn't believe her. Sam and Lockhart have their own elevator moment, where Sam threatens to pummel Lockhart into a pulp if he messes with Naomi.
Thoughts and musings:
- The eventual death knell for Kevin and Addison has rung down. As a "surprise", Addison sent her housekeeper over to Kevin's house to clean up, and Kevin, who's been being pampered by Dr. Montgomery for weeks, is over it. He's realized their differences are a little too much to overcome. Thus clearing the way for the Addison/Lockhart hookup before the end of the season.
- OK, I admit, I wasn't seeing the chemistry between Pete and Violet last week, but man, someone threw some grease on that fire this week.
- Cooper and Charlotte's make up week should be coming up soon.
What about you? How did you find Addison's weirdness about Carly? Uncharacteristic too? And what do you want for Christmas?

Last week I had one foot on the Pete/Violet ship, and now I think I might be the first mate. Their scenes were great, a nice blend of attraction, morning-after awkwardness and discombobulation.
The Kevin/Addie break-up was kind of anti-climactic. There's got to be more to it than this.
Ha! Pete and Violet caught in their p***ionate kiss made me recall when Tim Daly, on his old show "Wings", was caught cheating by his current girlfriend with his ex.
I was like "I've seen this before!". Yeah, those two definitely have chemistry. I was surprised that the cat isn't out of the bag yet with these two. I guess we'll save that for a later episode. Can't wait for the reaction from Oceanside.
I do not want Addison to hook up with Lockhart. No way. I'm against it. Honestly, I prefer Kevin over Lockhart, even if Kevin's got the personality of a doorstop.
The coming hook up between Addy and Lockhart is too predictable and convenient and I'm not really interested in seeing that happen. Have Lockhart hook up with Naomi.
By the way, why can't Naomi or Sam get a serious love interest of their own for once?
Speaking of Sam, scene where he told Naomi she was selling out was strong acting by Taye Diggs. Thought he really did that well. Very convincing his angry and frustration with Naomi's hypocrisy.
Also predictable was last night's "outing" of Pete and Violet with Pete's lady friend walking in on them. I was kind of hoping there would've been more angst or more reluctance on either Violet's part or Pete's part from jumping into a relationship together. The fact that they have been co-workers for a long time and never been romantically interested or attracted to one another, and then in a moment of loneliness and sadness, they sleep together...the idea that the next morning BOTH people would be feeling "hey, this is my soul mate," is just too Hollywood for me. In real life, there would be at least one person in the couple wondering if sleeping together was a mistake.
More Addison hypocricy? What a shock. So, let me get this straight...last week, she scolds Kevin for wanting to go back to work sighting something about she's sick and tired of her patients thinking they know better than her.
This week, she scolds Kevin that she's going to help Carly alone despite Kevin's warnings that she had no idea what she's getting into. Ya, cause a cop certainly wouldn't have any insight as to how to deal with a beat up hooker.
Personally, I think Kevin should consider himself lucky. RUN AWAY, don't walk.
Well, I'm done with Kevin. I don't see what he's so upset about. Frankly, I feel far more judgment coming from him about Addison than I ever have from Addison about him, and he can keep on walking.
I don't want Addison to hookup with the Lockhart we've seen so far, but I hold out hope we'll see more. I don't want her with another Derek who thinks he's the greatest thing ever, but a guy who isn't afraid to go toe to toe with her isn't a bad thing, esp. after dealing with Kevin for these past weeks. Hopefully Lockhart is more than just pretty with an ego.
I agree with all that the chemistry between Pete and Violet was hot, hot, hot!
Why have the writers turned Addison into such a witch? She's always poking her nose into the patients' lives and telling them what to do (Remember the dying teenage girl who wanted to get pregnant with her husband? Why didn't someone tell Addison that it was none of her business?) Plus, it was idiotic not to take her boyfriend's advice. Being a cop, he did know a bit more about the situation than she did. Anyway, the way it is now, the show is stronger without Addison.
I like the thought of a Addison and Lockhart hookup, I don't care for Violet/Pete romance. I was actually just starting to like Meg too. I see Violet maybe getting needy in the near future.
Good riddance to Kevin - my first thought at the end of the show was, "OK, now Addison is due for a visit from Sloan for some hot, dirty sex!" thinking of the tie-in for "Grey's" and "Private Practice" but then I thought that may not be cool since he's doing Little Grey now (which I am not cool with).
But Kevin was never good enough for Addison, and ever since he found out about the trust fund and her piles of money, he's been acting like a world cl*** *** - she's much better off without him.
And OK, having said that, I also don't want her with that plastic guy from Charlotte's new practice - it seems too scripted, predictable and obvious to throw them together (just as Addison and Peter seemed forced last season) and I don't like his character.
But Pete and Violet are smokin - they are a pretty hot couple and I like them together! However, the way my mind works, I thought of Tim being Tyne Daly's real-life brother and she of course played Amy Brenneman's mother on "Judging Amy" so I was thinking, "Hey, you can't kiss him - he's your uncle!" I must get that nasty little thought out of my mind and embrace Pete and Violet here and now on this show!
So, to recap - let Addison get over Kevin and don't have her start with Lockhart - EVER. Let Pete and Violet continue what they're doing and let Meg go. And, if TPTB absolutely must, put Cooper and Charlotte back together with for all their kinky sex games.
Looking forward to new episodes and love having "Private Practice" following "Grey's!"
ginni? you took the words right out of my fingers except for one little thing...
i actually WANT cooper/charlotte to get back together... but i want it to take a WHILE
i did think that they kind of character ******inated kevin to get rid of him and that it was kind of silly.... kevin she started dating would not have acted like that really at all...
did i mention i love the pete/violet thing? wow left field much? totally hot.
and lockhart? maybe in like a million years when we find out he secretly donates half his salary toa homeless shelter and volunteers at a free clinic... yeah barely maybe then... though addison does need a man with backbone for sure.
