Juliannehough_dancingwiththestars_2 Since we're down to a literal handful of celebs, tonight's Dancing with the Stars is jam-packed with extra special filler. Surprisingly, most of it is interesting. Shocking!

Spoilers

Instead of the standard recaps with couples commentary, there's comments by the judges inserted instead. I liked this better than the usual stuff since it let's us know what they were thinking in relation to the scores. Afterward, Len throws it to Warren Sapp & Kym who get the encore for their Peter Gunn/secret agent Tango.

A momentary aside: Samantha's dress is very interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It works but is still somewhat odd. Kind of like Sam. Moving on.

Speaking of somewhat odd, the interview Sam does with Cody, Julianne and Edyta was actually amusing. Surprise!

Next up is Country music mega-star Brad Paisley with his song "Ticks." Lacey and brother Benji Schwimmer are our pro dancers for this number. Okay Lacey, work that outfit. It's great to see them dance together again, they are full of awesome. I'd love to see a dance-off between them and Julianne & Derek. That would be crazy.

After is our first audience reaction package. Mark Cuban and Leeza Gibbons are the only famous faces included. I could've done without it - it was short and sort of painful. But our leaderboard recap let's me know that we're about to find out a smidgen of results. The first two couples to make it to the semi-finals are Warren Sapp & Kym and Lance Bass & Lacey. Yay Lance!

Back from some commercials, we get another bit of packing peanuts. Only I'm interested in this one. Dr. Drew Pinsky sits down and talks to all the couples in a sort of therapy session to help them become better dance partners. Lance & Lacey are first. This is after they had their first fight. Lance is very hard on himself and Lacey finds it frustrating to be positive all the time on his behalf. Dr. Drew says it's important for them to let each feel what they're feeling and let it be okay. Brilliantly simple. Next is Warren & Kym. Warren is very busy and isn't addressing the stress but Dr. Drew has his concerns. Maurice & Cheryl are next. Dr. Drew's concern with them is the lack of communication and Cheryl being overly critical.

Momentarily leaving the Dr. Drew sessions, we get to our Macy's Stars of Dance number, the results from all those online votes over the past few weeks. Dancing to "Great Balls of Fire" is Derek & Julianne. No surprise there. Julianne's outfit is really cute. Good job contest winner lady. Towards the end, Julianne actually carried Derek across the floor on her shoulders. Two weeks after her surgery. She's not human. Seriously, let's make this Schwimmer/Hough dance-off happen.

After the break, the Dr. Drew sessions restart. Brooke & Derek talk about their fight from a few weeks ago. Nothing groundbreaking came out of this segment. It's pretty much stuff that they hashed out before. Last is Cody & Julianne. He talks about how much of a roller coaster of emotions for him. When Dr. Drew asks about the surgery, he talks about how scared he was and how much she's helped him grow. He starts crying which makes her cry in turn. Aw...so sweet. Dr. Drew gives them tissue. They're totally going to the finals.

Post even more commercials, Brad Paisley returns with "Let the Good Times Roll" with Dyta, Kym, Karina, Alec, Maks and a pro from the tour who's name I couldn't quite catch. Maksim will be choreographing the tour this time around - Marlee Matlin, Lance and Toni Braxton will be among the celebs joining them. And Toni will even be singing.

More packing peanuts in a segment about the Kinesiology behind dancing. Using motion capture technology to collect data, they've discovered that during the Jive, a pro's feet can move at up to 15 mph and they can spin up to 180 rpm among other interesting factoids. This was pretty cool.

Before going to another break, we find out that Maurice Greene & Cheryl are on the chopping block as are Cody Linley & Edyta. Brooke Burke & Derek are safe.

Mauricegreene_dancingwiththestars_2 So, after much to-do, it's revealed that it's the last week for Maurice & Cheryl. He took it fairly well and with a smile. He really is a sweet guy. Their last dance is to "Please Don't Go" and Maurice grabs his daughter and brings her to floor to dance with them.

So no big surprise in the elimination tonight but at least Maurice went out on a high note. Your thoughts from tonight's episode?

I'm just glad that Julianne will be back next week!

I want a Hough vs. Hough finale (with Julianne coming on top). I honestly don't care about the "celebrities" - the real dancers are far more interesting.

Okay, I was actually fearing for Julianne - she is not human - who can dance like that after abdominal surgery? Really?? Edyta totally held him in there... but Cody is so hot for her! lol Yeah, I wanted Julianne to get back for one more week, but Cody is so disappointing. Brooke and the BIG MAN should be the final two - Warren is fun, but Brooke is the best. Cody and Lance should be the next to go... sorry Hannah!

i was fairly confident that Cody would be safe but relieved when it was announced for sure. not that sorry to see Maurice go, but he made a good run and it was sweet when he grabbed his daughter for the last dance, aaaaaaaww....

Julianne really is one tough cookie, holy sh*t i was surprised she danced tonight. nice to see her back.

i like the recap show when they show the dances again, it saves a lot of time!

GO CODY!!!

Two segments: great, upbeat and fun Hough dance number and the physiological analysis of a dancer as an athlete made this episode quite watchable. The results were again, fair. Plus, if you ever get bored you can always watch Maxim's hair grow...

I totally agree... For a results show jam packed full-o-filler, it was all good stuff.

The Lacey-Benji number was awesome and the Hough's were spectacular in the dial-a-dance. (Julianne really is Wonder Woman, isn't she?)

Tamara, I absolutely love where your brain is: SIBLING DANCE-OFF!! How do we make that happen?!? =)

The Schwimmers swing was great but the Houghs jive was absolutely my favorite dance of the season. I pretty much think they are one of the best reasons to watch DWTS. A danceoff would be cool but I really think the Houghs would take it.

Cody & Julianne's tears for each other were so cute. It's gonna be hard for him to make it to the finals- he's gonna have to be awesome next week to beat the other 3. I just wanted him to be able to dance with Julianne once more.

I agree that while the Schwimmers were great, the Houghs really nailed their dance. Dancing with Pianos? Alright! The official DWTS livejournal has some great videos and articles, check it out: http://dancingstarsabc.livejournal.com/

I really think that Warren should have gone before Maurice. Disappointed about that. Looking forward to the finals with Brooke winning it all. Tamara, I know you don't like her - not sure why, but it should be between her and Lance in the finals. That is in my opinion, which counts for nothing, since I never vote, but I really enjoy the show.

It's not a matter of me not liking Brooke, I dislike that she's overscored all the time. If she can have as much personality as she did in the Latin round last night with the wig for the rest of the season, I'll have no problem with her winning.

A friend of mine thinks the new pro dancer on tour (whose name I didn't catch either) is Alec's brother. Not sure if that's true - but they did kind of look alike. I had never seen Benji dance before - but heard lots about him - and it was entertaining - but those Houghs are amazing. Not crazy about the Dr. Drew and Anatomy of Dance segments - & Cody & Julianne made me cry!
