'The Office': ROAD TRIP!
Thanks to Rick for letting me pick up The Office. I am an Office fanatic and while I don't think this was its strongest showing this season, it definitely had its moments of awesomosity. Let's see what's up with our favorite Scrantonicities tonight...
We open with Michael presenting to the office workers about his business trip to Canada. He of course is focusing on how "international" the trip is and demonstrates "international" cultures by making Meredith pretend she is from Abbu Dhabi and then covering her face with his jacket.
The next day, Jim comes to work whistling a jaunty tune. It is 6 1/2 days until Pam gets back from New York. Kevin and Phyllis congratulate him. Creed and Stanley are weird and creepy about it. Heh heh.
David Wallace is pumped he found an employee stupid enough to want to travel to Winnipeg at this time of year. Michael is taking Andy with him as a translator because Andy speaks French and Oscar as his "numbers man." On the plane, Michael is flying business class and Oscar and Andy are flying coach. Awww. Andy's personal in-flight movie on his DVD player is "Harry and the Hendersons." AWESOME.
Back at the office, Ryan tells Kelly that when Pam gets back he'll be working back in customer service with her. He pulls a Jack Palance and tells her (and demonstrates) that he'll be doing his one-armed push-ups back there every day. They end up making out on her desk. Oh Kelly.
Andy and Michael consult the concierge about a place for dinner. Michael is mistaken that a "concierge" is the French version of a "geisha." Hooo boy.
As Pam is set to leave NYC, she calls Jim to tell him that she is failing her Flash course and has to stay in New York and retake it. For another 12 weeks. He encourages her to follow her dream and tells her to stay. They both hang up the phone in tears. Awww. At least the Pam-Jim relationship isn't completely smooth. That would be boring.
Dinner in Winnipeg. Our trio shows up at the bar where the concierge said she'd be that night. Michael tells her she is "radiant" and Andy buys her an enormous glass of wine. Andy then scopes out gay guys for Oscar. Heh heh. He calls them "Dainty Dale and Faby McGee." Hahahaha! Andy says that it doesn't matter if you're gay straight or whatever, "a guy needs intercourse." What a nice wingman!
Michael canoodles with the concierge and Oscar asks Andy how he can stand Angela. Andy says he sees through her hard exterior to her inner jelly. EWWW! As Michael and Marie the concierge make out in the alley, Oscar cannot believe that Angela and Andy haven't slept together yet, so he makes Andy call her. Wow, I like drunk Andy and drunk Oscar! Angela answers and Dwight is obviously in the background but Andy doesn't hear him. Back at the hotel, Michael is left standing outside Marie's room. Awww. No sex for Michael.
The next day at the office, Jim gets a lot of sad looks from people about Pam not coming back to Scranton right away. Back on the trip, Oscar bonds with Andy over being a good wingman, but Andy doesn't remember drunk-dialing Angela. Oops.
Kelly and Ryan make out in the break room. Ryan is making her break up with Darryl over text message and they make out some more. Darryl texts back that "it's cool." Hahaha. Ryan is perturbed.
Our intrepid trio sit in the airport and Andy tells Oscar that because of the drunk-dial, Angela has put him back to "first base," which in Angela-speak means kissing on the forehead. But Oscar and Andy are total BFFs now, which is AWESOME. Michael calls David Wallace to complain that the trip was terrible and it devolves into him expressing his disappointment about Holly being sent to New Hampshire.
Back at the office, Kevin congratulates Jim on making it through Day One of Pam Not Being There Some More. But she is waiting for him in the parking lot and says she's coming back because graphic design is not for her and she misses "Scranton." They smooch and Dwight gives her things to make copies of. Heh heh. Welcome back, Pam!
The tag has Kelly gloating that she and Ryan are back together and Ryan saying, "I realized that, for whatever reason, I can't do better than Kelly." HAHA!

i enjoyed this eppy very much, very very good. loved drunk andy's call and dwight in the background with angela. oh snap!
to Andrea, maybe i misunderstood, but i thought maybe Michael had sex with the concierge? like they had sex and then she just kicked him right out afterward as evidenced by some piece of his clothing she threw out into the hallway. and that could explain why he got more sad afterward, no cuddle time, you know michael lives for cuddle time and it just reminded him how much he misses someone to love (holly)...anyway idk, i wasn't sure, maybe others can weight in about it....
also incidentally: you don't have to cover your face in abu dhabi! not saying to you Andrea, i know you didn't write it, but just saying....
You know what DL? You're totally right. I completely missed that about Michael's storyline, which is interesting. I wonder if it's just me or if that was a mistake a lot of people made?
But I think you're right. Michael got laid then got kicked out and was sad about it. Hmm.
I totally picked up on Michael being used. I thought that was the whole point of that scene.
I am wondering when Phyllis will tell Andy about Dwight/Angela. We know that it will come out, but when? I also can't believe that Jim/Pam doesn't have some inkling. Those two always seemed to be a step ahead of everyone in the office.
"Foppy" McGee. This is important because I think "fop" is probably one of the funniest words ever.
How about the shot of Darryl strutting to his truck after learning he's free of Kelly?
I thought the whole Pam just moves back to Scranton thing felt like a cop-out. All season I've been wondering how they could reconcile Pam moving on to a better career with Pam working at Dunder-Mifflin. Then she just gives up and (presumably) goes back to being a receptionist. Lame.
Liked, no, loved the "oh-s#$t!" look on Ryans face when Daryl texts back "it's cool". Cut to shot of Daryl doin' a jig on the way back to his truck. What bliss.
Nice to see Wendi McClendon-Covey as the guest star in this episode as Oscar Nunez has been one the of best guest stars on her show "Reno 911".
I just loved how Michael thinks he needs Andy to be his translator.... Winnipeg is an english-speaking province.
I ***umed that Michael got lucky with concierge girl but then was tossed out. He craves affection and being in love. I think he realized he lost all of that with Holly and went off on his boss.
I was hoping Pam would graduate school but I'm ready for her to come back. I just don't believe she was surprised that she was failing.
