Jasongeorge_elistone_240 Oh, Eli Stone. Sometimes your determination gets the best of you. And in your rush to help out the firm, you may be getting a big old boomerang of "oh crap" to the face.

Spoilers

Workers are in changing out the old company sign with the new Wethersby Stone & Associates. At the morning staff meeting, the few but proud WSA employees find out that many of their clients are jumping ship while Posner & Klein's staff meeting is chock-full of rejoicing jerkbags (and Maggie) celebrating the stealing of said clients (except Maggie) complete with a wipe board with tick marks. The more they rejoice, seemingly the bigger the puppy eyes Maggie gives Matt, who's leading the meeting.

Afterward, Eli and Taylor believe there's a leak in the company since P&K seem to be one step ahead of them. Jordan thinks they're being paranoid by Taylor is determined to find the culprit. When she walks away, Eli pitches a potential client to Jordan - Jim Cooper, a long-standing client who's growing experimental marijuana that might cure his son's MS after already losing his wife. Jordan doesn't think it's such a good idea but Eli is determined. He plans to go to Jim's son's next swim meet to get some face time. While Eli is looking at the file, it bursts into flames in his hands. He's mostly sure it's a vision...and then the box catches on fire. Still only mostly sure, Eli decides to get the fire extinguisher just in case. Jordan walks in a surprises Eli, getting a chest full of foam for his trouble. And, of course, the files weren't really on fire.

At the swim meet, Eli and Jordan meet with Jim as pitch him the defense - that the government essentially has a monopoly on the medical marijuana supply. That should win him his clinical trial. So they're hired. Whilst rejoicing in the hallway, Eli gets a vision with Jordan singing and dancing. I must say, after all my years of watching Alias, it's still a little weird seeing Victor Garber sing. Anyway, the song Jordan is singing is "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" while there's fire streaking through the streets and up a building. This does not bode well.

Matt is in a really good mood when he comes to see Taylor for lunch but she's not so happy. She asks him to find out who's scooping their info in his company which causes a fight. Taylor almost tells him about the pregnancy but stops short. Matt leaves in a much less happy state.

Jonnyleemiller_elistone_240 The initial meeting for garnering a license for Jim doesn't go well. Upon going to the elevator, it shuts on Eli and he plummets to the ground floor. Walking out into a flaming lab, he sees a guy sitting outside on the fire escape and goes to talk to him...until the roof starts collapsing. Running back and diving into the elevator, he looks behind him and see Jim, Jordan and Jim's son JJ just looking at him funny. Eli gets up and tells them to watch their step.

Eli goes to talk about his visions with Dr. Chen. When he finds out there have been three visions warning Eli to drop the case, Chen is shocked that he waited this long to talk to him about it. Chen warns that Eli shouldn't go against God's will but Eli won't be deterred.

Matt finds Maggie in the lunch room and he mentions his fight with Taylor and how she asked him to give him the name of P&K's mole. Maggie says it'll turn out okay and they talk some more.

JJ visits Eli at the office and they talk. He reveals that he doesn't case about curing the MS so much as he does living his life. JJ wants to concentrate on swimming and making it to Olympic trials - any pot in his system will disqualify him. Turns out that Jim could give a crap about what JJ wants, he just wants to do things his way. Eli tries to assure him that his dad is doing this to help but JJ says if Eli wants to win the case, do it for Jim since JJ never asked for his help. And there's the rub.

Later in trial, Jim is on the stand and begins stating things that JJ had said. Eli gets squirrly so Jim doesn't commit purgery. They take a recess and Jordan, Eli and Jim have it out with JJ in the room. When Eli says that JJ doesn't even want to be in the study, Jim tells him to wait outside while he reams Eli and threatens his brother. Good times. After he leaves, Eli apologizes to Jordan - he should've listened to him in the beginning. But it's too late now. They've got to see this through to the end.

That night, Maggie comes by to see Eli. She found out who the leak was from Matt and passes it to him. There's advantages to being the sole good person in the firm. She's surprised he didn't ask for her help but Eli didn't think it'd be right. Maggie says she loves it there but her eyes say something else. Before she leaves, they admit that they miss "things." Which totally means each other. They'll be so cute when they get together.

Eli's closing argument "hypothetically" presents Jim to be a d-bag but that doesn't mean he's not going to do good in the world. They win the case but, before they leave (and against Jordan's wishes), Eli tries to have JJ tell Jim how he really feels...but he can't and they're off to a celebratory dinner.

Victorgarber2_elistone_240 The next morning at the staff meeting, Eli announces their first big win. Jordan adds that the Cooper win has given them more clients. As everyone leaves, Eli has a guy named Rudy stay behind. He's the leak. Instead of firing him, Eli tells him that Wethersby Stone & Assoc. can only be as strong as their weakest link. If he wants to be there, he needs to show them what he's capable of. Jordan says he doesn't think he'd be that gracious with the situation but Eli says he would be. Jordan also apologizes for not listening to him and discussing things since they're partners now.

After a conversation with Chen (that flirts with the possibilities of Eli being punished for ignoring God's will), JJ shows up at Eli's apartment to talk. JJ wants to stand up to his father by becoming an emancipated minor. He can't stand being around Big Jim and pleads for Eli to represent him. Uh-oh...

Assorted Bits & Pieces:

  • The other subplot tonight involves a little problem with Patti's daughter Angela. Patti needs Keith to help Angela with a DUI arrest. She's never been in trouble before and an arrest like this would jeopardize her scholarships. While initially reluctant, only going up to see her because Patti threatened him, Keith became more compliant upon seeing how hot Angela is. They go to see Samantha, the lawyer in charge of the case, who Keith already knows. When the proverbial sweet talk doesn't work, Keith switches to potentially bringing up a sexual harassment suit against the arresting officer who's had six prior complaints about hitting on women in the last few weeks. Consider the case settled. After their victory, Keith asks Angela out on a date. When Patti finds out she does not react favorably and basically threatens him with a butter knife. I love Loretta Devine. The date goes well but the buzz is short lived - Sam calls Keith and tells him that Angela's blood tests came back...and there were traces of cocaine in it. She wanted to warn him out of respect of his relationship with Patti. Now that potential alcohol abuse isn't looking so bad, is it?
  • I thought the case this week was pretty interesting on a couple different levels. What's most intriguing though is the potential fallout from Eli essentially disavowing his visions. Eli's theory of there being a two-way communication stream with God is fascinating and sometimes true as his emissaries occasionally interact with him. But yeah...I'm pretty sure Chen is right. There are consequences to be had. The fire may have been changed but I doubt whatever will replace it will be any better...
  • It was nice to see Steven Culp (Desperate Housewives, JAG) again. He can play jerks and nice guys with equal skill, and Jim Cooper is a grade-A jerkwad. And Marshall Allman did great as JJ.
  • I hope they resolve Matt and Taylor's relationship one way or another soon. Too much snippiness going on between them. Sure, Matt's not the nicest guy all the time but he's redeemable and whatnot.
  • Oh Maggie...it seem you'll be turning to the Dark Side soon and I don't like it. Don't be Anakin.

What did you think about this week's episode? Did you like the Angela subplot? How long will Maggie stay at P&K and how Dark Side will she get? What do you think the fallout for Eli will be?

My guess is that Eli defending JJ will be what he has to do make amends with fate. I can see Jim turning to P&K in that battle, and Maggie getting assigned to it based upon her relationship with Eli. And thus it begins - drawing Maggie to the dark side.

What will be interesting is the next vision. I think the vision will be interpreted by Eli one way (and because he went astray from it this week, he will follow it to the letter next week) but the vision will mean something else and the case gets even more messed up. It should be really good next week and i already can't wait for the next episode!!

So what is Keith going to do about Angela? I like that Keith had a storyline this week. I really the actor and his character and I want to see more from him. So I am curious to see where this will go.

And where is Nate? We haven't seem him in a while!

I don't want Maggie to go to the dark side!!! SOmething significant would have to happen for her to go there. Don't go there Maggie!!!!!!!!

Why is Victor Garber singing weird? he had a long history of working on Broadway (4 Tony noms), well before ALIAS was a half-baked gleam in Abrams eye. Yet another TV show wasting good actors with a premise that wore off after the pilot ep.

I thought it was a good ep last nite - and am still in awe how good Victor Garber's voice is. Another surprising thing is how Eli - who up till now has heeded his visions - ignored the fire [which should forebode nothing good] and acts against the warnings. Now how silly is THAT..?? Despite this controversy, I still love this show. Shows you how still human Eli - and thus, fallible - is.

I have been fortunate to see Victor Garber on stage - great voice and actor! I love when he sings on Eli Stone - last night wasn't the first time.

Matt is an idiot - he even mentioned Taylor's swelling breasts, she is acting snippy... telltale signs of pregnancy! What rock did he crawl out from under? I think when they have the conversation, he becomes excited and realizes that he wants to be a good dad and joins WSA.

I WANT MORE KEITH!! Hopefully the drugs in Angela's system will get him more air time.

I still don't get why Maggie is making her life miserable. I mean, I get that for the added complexity of her relationship with Eli, but in reality, it is just counter intuitive.

It was strange how Eli totally defied the visions this time. Maybe the next episode will reveal more about why he defied them. It seems it may have had a lot to do with his impression of why Jim was pushing so hard, even though that does not seem accurate now. Because Jim is an a**.

I liked the Keith/Angela side story. It gave us some insight to Keith.

Loved Victor Garber singing, and want more. Dressed in a red shirt and throwing fire! How cool was that?

Maggie is flirting with the dark side, but hasn't stepped over the line yet. But from the previews for next episode, it looks like she may dip into it with the continuing case of JJ trying to get emancipated.

I loved the little inside joke during the medical marijuana trial. The judge was actress Tonye Patano, who played Heylia James, the pot supplier on Showtime's Weeds.

Juke Early - It's not that's Victor Garber singing is weird, he's got a lovely voice. It's just that I'm so used to seeing him in a non-musical capacity that I forget he's a triple threat. It's like that with a number of actors - like Katey Segal or Christopher Walken.

The guy who played JJ also is LJ in Prison Break

In the promo for #206, Eli says he's misinterpreted. Maybe the fire isn't what we and Chen have thought. Unlike Moses -- or Lucifer -- Eli "defied" his vision to help, always an important distinction. And just who was that in the burning Cooper Biotech lab?

Matt and Maggie vs Eli? Maybe Posner assigns them, not just because they know Eli's tactics, but to prove their "loyalty" to P&K. Dangerous game.

Love all the subplots going for the full cast. Taylor & Matt, Keith, Patti & Angela, Nate & Beth (where is she?), Eli & Maggie. Poor Frank needs a date. And saw an upcoming synopsis stating Taylor defends Jordan in his divorce case...

Damn, want this show to survive. Anybody know anybody with a Nielsen box? Bribe 'em.

I predict that cancelling this show will turn out to be a major, major blunder, along the lines of when USA network cancelled La Femme Nikita back in the day or giving ABC the reputation FOX has garnered by producing shows and never gaving them a real chance over the years.

Don't do it ABC. This show has legs, this show has an audience. If your market model can't sustain it, then give Eli to cable.

That way you can save face and protect yourself from the onslaught of negative PR and audience displeasure that will be coming if you don't.

let see if they hire more writers for the show for Keith to have a story line from what i heard they have no black staff writers and white writers dont write love story plots for black actors. lets see what happens.

well i think the exising writers are too good and they should continu with this and there is no need to hire more writers
