'Privileged': "The Best Way to Feel Like a Queen is to Wear Alexander McQueen"
Last week on Privileged - well, last week, some recappers had some very serious issues with their satellite service providers, and therefore left you without your weekly recap, for which they are deeply apologetic. Reader Ashley S., this one's for you.
Megan trills all Mary Poppins into the twins' room with positive progress reports on both girls. The twins are underwhelmed, especially when she begins to press them on extracurricular community service with Once Upon a Dress (apparently the real and very noble organization Once Upon a Prom wouldn't let their name be used, but please don't let that stop you from lending a hand, or a dress.) Downstairs, Marco gets his employee physical, and Megan is flummoxed when the doctor demands an emergency contact from her. Will barges in, as is his wont, and talks a lot about how he isn't going to talk about Megan's issues with Lily. The twins are horrified when Megan takes them to a public school in a slightly less ritzy area of Florida to volunteer. The guidance counselor gives the twins measurements to begin to alter the dresses to fit the girls who have been selected to receive them; stepping outside, Megan sees her alcoholic father across the street, but he looks at her and drives away.
Marco points out to Megan that she has no right to expect her father to acknowledge her when she refuses to acknowledge him. She tells Marco how worried she is that he is still the same alcoholic she left Lily with years ago. She goes to visit him at his boat, and they talk awkwardly; he reveals that he is sober now. They decide to have dinner together the next night. Meanwhile, the twins sunbathe until the butler brings them the dresses and tells them that Megan won't allow their seamstress to alter the dresses: the girls have to do it themselves. The girls decide to rip the dresses down to their foundations and remake them entirely. The next day, Marco helps Megan plan the menu that night's dinner; they are interrupted by a phone call from Lily inviting herself over as well. Megan decides to make it a foursome, and goes to invite Charlie to dinner as well, because her dad loves him. He tries to beg off, and Megan presses him about the fact that he has been ignoring her. Rose is so adorably happy to learn that her tutor is trying to reconnect with her family: Megan's issues with her father remind Rose of the issues the twins had with their late father.

Lily arrives first for dinner, with Will as her date, and Mr. Smith follows. The twins run downstairs to support a nervous Megan, and the seven sit to await the arrival of Charlie. Lily demands alcohol, which Megan was keeping from the table due to her father's alcoholism. Megan flees to "get more rolls" (aka drink the cooking sherry) and returns to find the twins charming her father. The conversation takes a bad turn when Megan refers to her and Lily's mother abandoning them; it only gets worse when Sage notices that Lily is wearing the bracelet she stole from Rose. Lily lies and claims that the bracelet is hers, and then that Rose gave her the bracelet, and storms out, with Will following her into the foyer. When he questions why, she breaks up with him.
Rose apologizes feverishly to Megan for lying about the bracelet's disappearance. She explains to Megan how jealous she and Sage are that Megan has a family. Megan goes back downstairs to find Will still loitering about in the foyer, which is just getting kind of creepy at this point. Like, go home, dude. He apologizes for taking Lily's side in the fight over the bracelet. Megan finds her father bonding with Marco in the kitchen over creme brulee. He reveals to her that Charlie told him when Megan moved back to Florida: he has been waiting for her to reach out to him. The next day, the twins race into the public school bearing new dresses, instead of having altered the original dresses. Megan tells Charlie that she knows he told her dad she was back in town; she picks a fight with him because she doesn't understand why he won't be friends with her anymore. She storms through the front doors of Les Anges to find her father waiting in the kitchen. He tells her that he invited Lily because he feels alien around judgy judgy Megan. They make up, and she and her father exchange phone numbers. Megan and the twins curl up in front of the TV with ice cream to celebrate their baby steps forward.
Next week: writing about the hand that feeds you? Real bright, Megan.
And we're back! Sorry about last week, ladies and gents - DirecTV certainly got an earful from me. What were your thoughts about tonight's episode? Or last week's?

How cute is this show? I just love it. Hubby and I both watch it every week. I just love Marco...and I'm waiting patiently for Megan and Will to get together. Of course this is TV so that path will not run smooth... And Sage is starting to get a little likeable. She's still mean but it seems to have toned down a bit for this episode which is a good thing.
Jordan:
:) Why thank you! I've never had a recap shoutout before. I am honored.
After seeing this episode, I really want a Marco of my own. A funny, smart, nice kind man that listens to you and then offers advice without laughing in your face or going "I told you so" if things go wrong. :) All while cooking a fabulous meal!
What ever happened to the twins' father? I must have missed the explanation earlier on in the season.
I agree with Lisa...Sage's character is starting to grow a little more beyond just 'angsty teen', which is a nice change.
Looking forward to things moving forward a bit with Megan and Will. I like him. :)
Lily's just...sad. The nerve she had to wear the bracelet that she stole to a dinner at their house? Awful. But at she stood with will, continually changing her story about Rose giving her the bracelet, and then about just borrowing the bracelet... it didn't completely make me feel sorry for her, but I hope she gets help. Will was sort of right: No one can change her...unless she wants to be changed.
I wasn't a big fan of the Charlie/Megan scenes tonight. I don't think Megan appreciates her friendship with him, but I also think it was selfish and stupid of him to act the way he's acting now. I don't care how mad he is at her...at the very least he should have sent a lame text message to let Megan know he wasn't going to be there for dinner.
Lisa - I'm with you about this show. I really enjoy it - it's not too deep or thought provoking but it does hit a lot of issues in a realistic way.
Last night's episode was fun - good to meet Megan & Lily's dad, and I'm glad it wasn't him still being a falling down drunk, but someone much more responsible and someone both Lily and Megan (and Sage & Rose) could look up to.
I liked that they revisited the bracelet that was stolen from Rose, and didn't just let that storyline hang out there in limbo as some shows can do. That really spoke to the relationship between Will and Megan, Lily & Megan and Rose & Megan. And yes, we did see another side of Sage - nice to see the twins remembering their dad.
And how funny were the twins when they went to the school to volunteer and their reactions to the school and the dresses they had to alter - or should I say the dresses they thought their own seamstress would alter for them?
I am liking that servant who brought the dresses back to them - he's funny in a very understated way - loved his comment that no one ever asked about his family! Keep him around for these types of moments!
Hope the CW gives this show a chance!
oops, typo. It should have said:
"But as she stood with Will" (in the part about Lily)
I am sure it won't happen anytime soon, but I just wish Charlie would tell Megan how he feels.
Oh and btw, I like Megan & Lily's dad ... who plays him?
Shannon - it is John Allen Nelson who was on "24". Love this show - Sage is great, Rose is adorable... isn't it nice to have "privileged" teens who aren't snorting coke or puking their lunches up? Sage has some 'tude, but what realistic teen wouldn't - and she is so quick witted with her comebacks! Her speech to "Spam" was hysterical! I really like how smart this show is with family dynamics and how the twins (yes, even Sage) realize that family is more important than material goods.
Ashley, I believe Sage and Rose's father died in the accident that killed their mother.....someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think both Mom and Dad died together.
I love this show! Lily is one unbelievable chick - so glad she got caught, and Will finally found out the truth. Can't wait for his story - there should be a reason why he's always in the house hanging around. I liked Sage last night. Her little speech to Pam was hilarious! Oh, and I can't wait for Megan and Will to finally hook up.
Great episode last night. It was good to meet Megan and Lily's father and make an opinion based from his point-of-view rather than just Megan's. It was good to see that he had made positive changes in his life. I was a little skeptical about him at first, but by the end, he came across as an honest and likeable person. Unlike his other daughter, Lily, who had the chance to redeem herself over the stolen bracelet, but didn't. I'm glad Megan made the effort to reunite with her father and realized she may have judged him too harshly.
P.S. I've read that Sharon Lawrence(NYPD Blue)will play Megan and Lily's deadbeat mom in a couple episodes, beginning in January. This, of course, depending on the CW renewing the show for a full season. Also, overnight ratings showed that "Privileged" maintained 70% of "90210's" audience, and "Privileged" had its best ratings in three weeks.
Last night's episode was a great one. I too was glad to see that Lily got caught but hope she may be able to clean up her act & she & Megan can become close. I hope the CW doesn't cancel this show because it deserves a chance!
