'Privileged': Tennis, Anyone?

By Jordan Hudson

October 07, 10:06 PM

Kristinaapgar_privileged_240 Feminism made more than a token appearance on last week's Privileged, as Rose learned to respect herself and her body and Megan learned to take control of her own sexuality. And I suppose, in a way, that having every straight male under 40 fling themselves at you, as Megan does, is a form of feminism. In a way. For the CW.

Megan seductively invites Jacob to a spa weekend, but he responds with stories about his allergies and phlegm. Sexy! She clicks Charlie in on her three-way calling to talk to him about a White Stripes concert; however, Lily clicks in to apologize for going out drinking with Underage Sage. Rose listens in in dismay, and Megan forgets about Charlie to go into Laurel's office for a sit-down. Laurel requires that Megan chaperone the twins' pool party this weekend while Laurel is away. Oh noes! Her romantic spa trip! The twins check their Evite status, and Rose tries to talk to Megan about something, but Charlie appears and interrupts. Megan blathers on about Jacob, and Charlie makes his Patented Sad Face and offers to co-chaperone the party with her. Rose sneaks into Megan's room and reveals her "great idea": that she wants to invite Lily to the party. Megan argues but Rose eventually wins her over with her undeniable adorableness.

Joannagarcia_privileged_240_002 Megan awkwardly greets guests at the pool party, and Lily shows up in plaid flannel, because the costume designer on this show is 400 years old, or maybe blind. Sage is a raging you-know-what to Jordana and Breckyn, who are apparently popular ladytypes at the twins' high school. Will slinks up behind Megan and pins her hair up for her; she tells Will that Lily is at the party as well. Charlie sees the hair-pinning and makes that face again. Megan introduces the two boys and skeedaddles right the heck out of there. She delivers virgin drinks to the assembled tweens, who stealthily top off their drinks with tequila from a flask. Megan and Lily bicker, and Megan makes peace by offering Lily a tour of the house. Lily and Megan reminisce while sitting in the twins' closet, and Lily admits that she hasn't told their father than Megan in back in Florida. Lauren Conrad, a person from a show nobody watches, makes a cameo while Jordana and Breckyn roofie Sage's drink.

Ashleynewbrough_lucykatehale_240 The butler begs Megan's presence by the pool, leaving Lily alone with the twins' jewelry box. Charlie confronts Will about his seeming interest in playing both sides of the Smith sister game. Sage suddenly feels sick and dizzy, and Rose notices that Sage is breaking out in hives. The twins intercom Megan to come upstairs to tell her about the hives and, more importantly, Rose's missing tennis bracelet. Megan immediately assumes that Lily is responsible for the theft, and puts Charlie on the task of trying to figure out why the twins reek of booze. Megan confronts her sister about the bracelet, and the two create a tearful scene, causing a disgusted Will to walk away from both.

A hive-riddled Sage sneaks downstairs to get caught by Jordana and Breckyn, who gigglingly admit to having spiked her drink. Charlie overhears and demands an explanation; the girls say it was an unfortunate allergic reaction to a muscle relaxant. Megan yells at all three girls and uses Charlie's feelings for her as an example of true friendship; however, Sage rightfully points out that Megan's definition of "friend" sounds more like her definition of "dog". Megan sends all of the guests home, and Rose bemoans her part in ruining the Smith sisters' tenuous friendship before she suddenly has an epiphany: she forgot that she had lent the bracelet to a friend.

Allanlouis_privileged_240_002 Marco finds Charlie bereft on the couch, having suddenly realized that he's only a friend to Megan. Marco counsels him to move on. Megan chases after Lily and apologizes for her accusations while Will listens in. Lily rebuffs her apologies and tells Megan she's tired of being judged by her superior sister all the time. Oh my god, Megan Smith is totally Dan Humphrey! Will agrees with Lily and bounces. Later that night, the twins eat popcorn in bed, and Megan envies their closeness. Sage reminds Rose to call her friend about the tennis bracelet and oh dear Rose made a cover story for Lily, didn't she? Oh, that's too bad. Megan goes into her room to find a masseuse awaiting her, courtesy of Jacob. Nicely played, Jacob! At a bar, Lily and Will get drunk, and Lily finds the bracelet in her purse. She looks confused, and eyes Will oddly. Wait, did Will plant that?!

In two weeks: um, more of the same stuff happens!

Ok, I'm confused. Did Will plant Rose's bracelet in Lily's bag? And why?

I like this show. All the regulars did a wonderful job in this episode.

My answer to your question above is no. To me Lily stoled the bracelet.

You thought Lily looked confused?

I didn't get that at all. I thought she looked all "Yep, it was me. I'm back to all of my old tricks again...stealing jewelry."

I think Lily took the bracelet, and we're going to find out more and more what happened between Megan and Lily now.

I thought that it was one of the best episodes. You finally got to see more about the twins life, other than just school problems and issues with Megan.

I'd like to see more of their friends and get some other story lines going.

Cute episode!

I hope that this show doesn't get cancelled..... It is so cute!

What I got form the episode is that Lily took the bracelet but she kinda looked like she regretted it but not really that much. I don't think that made sense but you get the point.

I thought Lily looked guilty, not confused. She definitely was the one to take that bracelet, and when Megan first b*tched her out about it she was okay with that. But the fact that Meghan later came back and apologized made her feel guilty about it.

I wish Anne Archer had more to do actually. I really wonder how grandma can know what's up when she's never around...

I think that Lily took the bracelet, but really started to believe her story to Megan or perhaps it's deeper, like she's a kleptomaniac or something - that would explain why she looked sort of surprised at finding it in her purse.

I'm not sure what the dueling messages are trying to say: Megan only believes in friends; the twins only believe in family. Will someone change her opinion?

Is it just me or did Megan get hired as a parent instead of a tutor. She is responisble for everything those girls do.

I think Lily took the bracelet and then felt bad aboutit. That was the look on her face.

I really enjoyed last night's show. How sweet is Rose?!
I definitely think Megan could have handled the confrontation better. (Why didn't they go to a private room? And didn't the writers use "argument in the middle of a party" ploy just a few weeks ago with the same two characters?) But to say that she was completely in the wrong was not cool of Will.

I don't think Lily looked confused; she looked devious. She definitely stole it! It was a "Muah ha ha, I'm smarter than you all" look!

"Is it just me or did Megan get hired as a parent instead of a tutor."
Assistants (I'm lumping tutors to the rich and shameless in there) get asked to do the craziest stuff, even if they are only supposed to be taking care of the business side. My roommate is an assistant to a president of an entertainment company and was forced to take over planning/supervising the remodeling of her home. It was horrible and she almost quit over it. Crap like that happens all the time.

Oh, I totally saw Lily as the thief. Which makes me question all Lily's actions we've seen. I can't believe that Lily "didn't know" that going on a date with Will would upset Megan. I think Lily was surprised Megan found someone else to date so quickly.

Also, Rose knows that Lily stole the necklace and may be able to use that knowledge to her advantage later. Hmm.

Poor Charlie. Stuck in the friend zone.

A great episode this week. Here are the main highlights: Charlie/Will finally meet, a reluctant Megan invites Lily to a party, Charlie realizes Megan only sees him as a friend, and the whole did Lily steal the bracelet or not?
First of all, it was really interesting to see how both Charlie and Will view Megan. Charlie, the best friend, knows that Lily attending the party is going to turn bad because of the sisters' stormy past. Will, the new friend/potential suitor, thinks that Megan inviting Lily will be good for Megan and repair their broken relationship. In the end, both Charlie and Megan are right about Lily attending the party being a bad idea.
Next, Megan gives Lily another chance after Lily had messed up by taking Sage to a bar. Lily steals Rose's bracelet and, obviously, doesn't care about fixing her relationship with Megan. It is so sad to see Megan wishing she had the same closeness that sisters Rose and Sage share.
Unfortunately, Lily is the one who steals Rose's bracelet but, later, feels some guilt. In the last scene, does she feel bad about stealing or how Megan sees her for what she is- a self-absorbed person?
Also, it bothered me that Will quickly sided with Lily after the heated argument at the party. I thought he was too harsh when he called out Megan as being the one responsible for the fight(especially, since Lily did steal the bracelet).
Finally, Charlie realizes Megan thinks of him only as friend. Hopefully, Charlie can now move on and won't be pining for Megan anymore.

Where's the newest episode???

Melissa | Oct 27, 2008 12:09:50 PM | #

I have watched this show from the beginning, mainly because there is nothing else to watch on Tuesday night. It is a cute show with a not-so-original plotline. I keep watching even though I can't stand any of the characters. The snotty gay chef needs to be slapped. And the older twin is such an obnoxious, over-acting bore. It was 3 episodes before we found out they were twins. And what's up with that white trash arguing in the middle of a fancy party? That was so ghetto! And to do it twice...really!!! Anyone else would have been fired on the spot. Megan seems perky, ditzy, clueless, and easily amazed. I also liked her much better as a blonde. The only character that's fun to watch is the slutty, alco-druggy possibly klepto sister Lily. What does everybody else think?!?!
