Premierewatch, briefly: 'The Shield'
The Shield began its final season Tuesday more or less where things left off last year -- which is to say, in a very complicated place.
So rather than go through a lengthy recap trying to summarize where things stand with a show that we haven't featured much on It Happened Last Night, we're going to throw it out to you. The floor is open for discussion on the seventh-season premiere, which featured Mackey (Michael Chiklis) simultaneously trying to deal with Shane, use his leverage against the politically and very probably criminally connected Cruz Pezuela and protect his family from the Armenians.
Add to that the comedy of Dutch and Claudette duping Billings out of his lawsuit and back into his job -- though that may turn out to be subtraction by addition -- and the gruesome spectacle of a trail of blood laid right down the middle of a city street, and we're off and running on a season that will see Vic have to face what he's done over the years.
I cede the floor to you. What did you think of the season premiere of The Shield, and where do you think it's headed? (And would you like to see weekly recaps of the kind we usually do around here?)
I feel this series is well worth
summarizing and criticizing in your usual fashion. The acting and writing are well above average TV and the Vic denouement is almost certain to be riveting given the wealth of material from previous years can be marshaled in its construction. There are also plenty of sub characters whose fates need to be resolved. Plenty of material to keep me attentive and interested.
Are you kidding me? THE SHIELD is the best show on TV now that THE WIRE is over. RECAP AWAY!
Beau | Sep 3, 2008 8:09:08 AM | #I agree -- it's a HUGE disservice not to recap this show. There are so many twists and layers to the characters and their relationships. It's dark and uncompromising, but still able to come up for air occasionally, and offer a lighthearted moment. So well done, and so worth reviewing.

BOOO!!!!!
Stacy | Sep 3, 2008 1:26:57 PM | #This is such a terrific show! Yes, do recaps; I can't believe you haven't done them in the past.
Susan | Sep 3, 2008 2:21:34 PM | #come on!!! Im not the writer you are
jake | Sep 3, 2008 5:58:23 PM | #YES, recap the show!! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this column......NOT another reality recap. I love the Dutch character, he is such a goofy nerd, a little lightness to balance off such a violent show.
Kathie | Sep 4, 2008 10:54:19 AM | #A little late to the game but I find this column has the best recaps so please... bring it on for the "Shield"!
This was a nice tone setter for the final season. Best part was Billings law suit falling apart with a little push from Dutch and Claudette.
Also looks like this final season will finally give us some time with Ronnie.

Add me to the list of people amazed that you're not doing proper recaps of the final season of one of the best shows on TV. What are you thinking? Please find someone who appreciates this landmark series and assign them the recap job.
Ed Johnson-Ott | Sep 4, 2008 1:34:26 PM | #So noted: Weekly "Shield" recaps starting next Tuesday in this space.
Rick | Sep 4, 2008 1:57:25 PM | #Shane is gonna get dead and it will be interesting to see who gets him...the Armenians, the Mexicans or Vic.
