'Big Brother 10' Dan is dumb

Dan I need to find someone to fund a plane to fly a message over the Big Brother 10 house. The message shall read "Dear HGs, Please, for the love of God and all that is holy, DO SOMETHING ALREADY" and maybe I will add something in there about Dan being a total idiot.

But before we get to Dan's idiocy, let's review! Memphis and Dan formed a secret alliance and named themselves the Renegades, because they are both unspeakably lame. Renny was HoH and put up April and Jerry, which put a damper on Ollie and April's ability to plan out their futures together. Ollie and April both campaigned for her, with April even offering up all her BB cash to Dan, but in the end it did no good and she was sent home anyway.

When we left the HGs, they were hanging from vines and being swung into a wall on occasion. They hit the wall pretty hard, which was gratifying to watch. The wall was hung with water balloons filled with green dye, which they grabbed and pelted each other with. It added to the overall air of wetness, as they were also doused in rain from time to time. Also, Michelle claimed to want vengeance for April, which makes no sense considering she voted her out. Whatevs.

Jerry is the first to drop and he's shortly followed by Keesha, which seems to tick off Memphis. He snides that he had hoped she would "at least put in decent effort". Michelle's foot gets caught in the net covering the wall, effectively taking her off her vine and out of the running. Memphis drops after about 3 hours, leaving just Dan and Ollie. Dan mentions that he wants HoH to see a picture of his girlfriend, stating he won't last another day without it. Which is sort of like giving your enemy a pep talk. Idiot.

But that's just Dan's dumb move opener. He gets to the serious business when it comes to cutting a deal with Ollie. He says that he did so in order to get HoH yet still seem weak. Which is pretty accurate, mainly because he gave all the HoH power to Ollie in the deal. Basically, he promised not to put up Ollie or Michelle, to let Ollie nominate one of the HGs for eviction and to let Ollie choose who would be put up if the PoV was used. Which hasn't happened yet, so that's not a huge concern. But yes, dumbest move ever, Dan.  Ollie drops and Dan takes HoH. Sort of.

Memphis believes that Jerry and Michelle will be put up, while Ollie reveals the deal he made to Michelle, who is exuberant. Less exuberant is Memphis, when Dan gives him the same news. In fact a few choice words are used. Oh, sweet irony. This is what happens when you create an alliance and call yourselves the renegades. Which is another word for traitor. Brilliant!

At the HoH reveal, Dan's girlfriend Monica sent him a letter and a t-shirt that announces he's "Taken". Memphis makes it clear that he would never in a million years wear a shirt that said something like that on it, but that Dan will have it on by the end of the day. Flash to Dan in the DR, wearing the shirt, where he reveals his plan to fake cry some more in order to seem weak. His sensitivity when reading Monica's letter impresses Renny, but no one else seems moved.

They attempt a moment of levity, but it only consists of Renny asking Dan questions and Dan doing his best Clinton impression and smoothly avoiding them all based on the semantics of language.  And semantics is such a capricious science, but for someone so dimwitted, Dan can still out maneuver Renny. She asks him how many girls he's dated and he asks her to clarify what she means by dated. They go back and forth on that, until she finally asks how many girls he's been with, leaving him to ask her what she means by "been with". She eventually gets frustrated and walks away from him, having gotten no answers at all.

Up in the HoH room, Ollie and Dan discuss the nominations and Dan tells him that he wants Memphis on the block. Which is when it dawns on Dan that maybe his deal will backfire on him. Gee, ya think? Dan tells Memphis about the dilemma, and Memphis is again less then exuberant. Dan promises to try and keep him safe, which hardly seems like a realistic promise to make at this juncture. All the same, he gets Keesha in the HoH room and asks her if she will vote to keep Memphis in. She says yes, but that she can't be sure about Renny. Renny happens to come up right at that moment and reveals that she doesn't trust Memphis at all. They try and talk her into keeping him anyway, but she doesn't seem sold on the idea. Dan notes that she is "crazy", "a wildcard" and "recluse". I fairly certain he meant reckless, but recluse is a more interesting option. Also, he's an idiot.

He takes time out to argue with the pictures of his family, which is weird. Memphis DRs that if Dan puts him up, he will turn on him as well, while Ollie DRs that he better put Memphis up to prove he's good on his word. At the nomination ceremony, Dan reveals that a deal was made and that he plans to honor that deal, without revealing the specifics of the deal. Which is sort of pointless, since everyone knew a deal was made anyway. He puts Jerry and Memphis on the block, saying that some see Memphis as a "vagabond or a renegade"  and that Jerry's nomination was a first down for Dan but not game over for Jerry. Neither statement makes much sense, but he encourages them each to win the PoV to save themselves. Thanks, Captain Obvious!

So, is Memphis as good as gone? Or will something actually noteworthy happen?

DAN???

Linda | Aug 24, 2008 8:44:46 PM | #

Up until tonight, I thought Dan had a pretty good gameplay, but calling Dan an idiot lets him off the hook too easily.

Dan's first mistake was making a deal to begin with. Who did Dan think that Ollie would be gunning after? Memphis makes the most sense. Keesha and Renny are the only two other options when Michelle and Jerry are removed from the equation.

Since he has easily made the dumbest move so far this season (and that is saying a LOT), it would serve Dan right if Memphis were to win HOH during Thursdays double eviction episode and send double-crossing Dan right to the jury box.

Lastly, here's an easy way out for ya, Dan: break your stupid deal. Honesty is not required in order to play BB! Count me out as one of Dan's defenders and/or fans.

Jay | Aug 24, 2008 10:02:53 PM | #

first off, nice to see you Linda!

as i've said before and i'll say again, i think the BB producers really don't like the hg's. they are now body-slamming them into walls. but everyone watching seemed to greatly enjoy it!

i do understand dan's risk/reward thinking. if memphis (my fave) can manage to stay in the game, maybe they really can go far (and if memphis doesn't hold a grudge). if the hairbrain plan succeeds, it was a genius move, but dan knows it is a big risk to have to count on rennie's vote.

i liked how dan tried to reassure memphis during the nomination ceremony by dropping the word RENEGADE as a signal. so what, so that makes it all okay for memphis, he feels so much better now? i don't think so....

i don't blame memphis for being pissed. but if he stays i hope he doesn't hold TOO much of a grudge toward dan and target him. they could still help each other more than hurt. memphis would have bigger fish to fry than dan. but i'm sure this move won't ever really sit well with memphis.

and another problem, if jerry or memphis wins pov, then who will he replace the nominee with? will he really let ollie pick? with michelle protected, who would be left? dan agreed to too much (and that is the understatement of the season).

Jessica, I have said it several times and I will say it again: Your recaps ROCK!

With that being said, I will follow Jessica's assertion and echo that Dan is a freaking idiot. I don't know which was worse: this fool's lame-brained deal with Ollie or Marcellus' not using the POV after he had won it to save himself all the way back in Season Three. I really want Michelle to go, because of her she took out the last interesting person in the house and because she is just... I don't know... I was a huge Jerry supporter, but I think his days are numbered. He better win the POV and throw Memphis out the house... Sorry, DL. I tried to like Memphis but he says things that show that he is not the brightest bulb in the house sometimes and he is incredibly lame.

Mark O. Estes | Aug 25, 2008 2:36:06 AM | #

I don't think that was that bad of a move like everyone thinks. First, he keeps the whole trust, word thing he has been playing up the entire game. Next, Ollie may have the power to nominate someone for the block and as a replacement, but Dan still has the power to send Jerry home (who is still not in any of his alliances). Further, if Ollie and Michelle win POV next week, they won't nominate him because he kept his word. Finally, Dan can placate Memphis by explaining to him that he just solidified the house perception that they are not aligned. As he said, why would he put up a member of his alliance. If Jerry goes home, Dan will just say that he only put Memphis on because he guaranteed that he was safe. If Memphis goes home, it's no skin off his back because he's still in his final 3 alliance with Keesha and Renny, who do not really trust Memphis at all.

Pat | Aug 25, 2008 2:47:45 AM | #

Will someone please tell Michelle that Ollie's name is pronounced AH-lee not
ah-LEE.

Wally Stib | Aug 25, 2008 5:38:28 AM | #

The main hole in Dan's plan is that he has not thought through the POV aspect. If Ollie or Michelle wins POV, they will pull off Jerry and Ollie will force Dan to put up Keesha (or Renny, but more than likely Boobs McHooter). Dan is so worried about Memphis he may lose an ally regardless.

spud | Aug 25, 2008 5:55:56 AM | #

Actually, this could be a great move. Even tho Dan wants to keep Memphis in, it should be better that Memphis is evicted. And *IF* this convinces Ollie/Michelle to not target Dan, Dan is the clear favorite to win this game.

Larry | Aug 25, 2008 6:46:14 AM | #

Both Michelle and Keesha have called Ollie ah-LEE - tho not Michelle yesterday. How would they know how to pronounce his name if they only met and talked this week after April left?

Larry | Aug 25, 2008 6:48:52 AM | #

Sheesh. I've seen children in kindergarten with more logical sense than Dan. You want to win HOH and yet let the other person pick whom they want on the block. That's why you wanted the power of HOH? What a tool.

Cynic | Aug 25, 2008 7:37:10 AM | #

If PoV is used Dan will not continue to honor the deal he made with Ollie. There's no way he can. If he puts Renny up after one of the nominees is taken off she will be extrememly mad and probably put him on the block as would Keesha. Onyl safe thing for him to do is put Michelle up and hope Ollie doesn't get HoH.

Paul | Aug 25, 2008 7:42:06 AM | #

I hope Michelle wins POV and thinking that Ollie is running the game, she takes Jerry off and then Dan gets a brain and puts up Ollie.
Dan is right... this is a somewhat smart plan, but only if Renny sticks with the plan... but really, its Renny?!?!?

Mandy | Aug 25, 2008 7:43:57 AM | #

WHY DOES DAN HAVE ALWAYS HAVE TO SHOUT IN THE DIARY ROOM???!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez, that guy's getting on my nerves...Luckily, my TV went out before Dan's Clinton impression, so I had no idea that happened. The TV came back just as Keesha Dan and Renney were discussing Memphis. I like how Memphis says he would never wear a "Taken" t-shirt, but he walks around wearing a hat with a big ol' "M" on it....lol

I was kinda rooting for Dan, but his gameplay has been really stupid lately and his ridiculous comments at the nomination ceremony made no sense to me....

I actually love the way BB always makes it so that I don't want any of the contestants to win!

Message to writer Jessica..

Bitch..if you dont like the show..don't write about it !.. some of us enjoy it ..so to hear your miserable and not very funny recaps and observations... why not write for the Onion.. you're better suited for that crap..

Something was left out of the show last night. When everyone left after the first visit to Dan's HOH room and he made the comment about that being lovey-dovey and all but now it was game on, he then said, "Now let's play this like Judas." When I see and hear all the other things that go on in the house, I don't think Dan is as dumb as a lot of people are thinking right now.

Mexico Bill is dumb - No point in putting a spoiler warning at all, if you put the spolier right below the warning and in caps

1st of all, I can hardly follow the program cause Im so busy trying to figure out which ones of these morons is the MOST moronic of them all! every time someone (except Jerry) opens their mouth, Im stunned at the stupidity! plus none of them have a pleasant speaking voice or very good grammer, so its like chalk on a blackboard just listening to them..If this show is going to continue to pick stupid, greedy, twofaced, backstabbing people to be on tv..at least for Gods sake, find some with some kind of personality!!!! Im beggin, please find somebody with an IQ above 100!!!!!!!!!!

liz | Aug 25, 2008 9:35:17 AM | #

Dan's plan was idiotic but not for the reasons you think. He's going to keep his group in tact no matter what, as he's not worrying about pissing Ollie off. The thing that he doesn't realize is that, unless he smooths things over with Ollie before Ollie is sent packing, he doesn't have a prayer in the world of winning. If Ollie leaves that house pissed at Dan, he'll lose Michelle, Ollie and April's vote and we all know that Jerry won't vote for him either. The numbers are now against him unless he surprises me during the veto ceremony(and I don't think he will.)

Michael | Aug 25, 2008 11:20:55 AM | #

"every time someone (except Jerry) opens their mouth, Im stunned at the stupidity!"

Are you serious? Jerry is probably the biggest moron of them all!

It'sMe! | Aug 25, 2008 11:28:41 AM | #

So let me get this straight, idiot boy Dan made this deal just so he could see a pic of his girlfriend? Could anyone be more moronic! I'm suprised he actually went through with it. I don't think Ollie is someone to be threatened by even if he went back on his word. I do, however, think that memphis has done nothing but ride on other's coat tails and expect them to protect himself. I totally see why Renny, rightfully, distrusts him. He is lame and useless as far as I'm concerened. If the POV is used that might a good time to back door ollie.

NO DISSING JESSICA!!! [Mark]to call someone a bitch just because she says it like it is is pretty foolish...and uncalled for...
i myself enjoy the recaps, and i know i am not the only one (look at how many people come here and consistently comment and don't complain about jessica's recaps)...
if she really didn't like the show she would not be watching it and dedicating her time to doing the recaps...
get over yourself...people come here to post because they enjoy complaining and conversing...and i for one would not go to a site to read about what a great, wonderful show big brother is and not be able to complain (or laugh at the observations of the recapper because i thought the same thing)...
screw off...

Kelley | Aug 25, 2008 12:45:19 PM | #

hi Mark O. Estes, yes it's true and i agree with you that memphis is not the brightest bulb in the house (i've even said that myself), but i still find him the most likeable. and btw, like you, i also would love to see michelle go.

dl | Aug 25, 2008 1:21:25 PM | #

mark, that is very harsh. while i appreciate hearing a review of another BB site, your personal attack on Jessica was uncalled for. we all have an opinion but please keep it friendly between posters.

dl | Aug 25, 2008 1:34:16 PM | #

plz take off the spoiler!!
