Catdeeley It was inevitable. So You Think You Can Dance has axed one of my favorite dancers. Giant sigh.

Spoilers

Our opening number is a very avant garde piece performed to "The Dance" by Charlotte Martin. It's Cirque du Bizarre. For all the criticism she received yesterday, Comfort's really bringing it tonight and Mark does a superb job as their ringmaster. I dug it a lot. Ah. It's a Mia Michaels routine. Of course.

As always, we have the same judges on hand as we did last night (Nigel, Mary and Adam Shankman). Dispensing with time-filler, our first three couples are brought out. Chelsea T & Thayne are the first to learn that they're in the bottom. Katee & Joshua are safe as are Chelsie H. & Mark.

After the break, three more couples are on the stage. Kherington & Twitch are safe, no shock there. Courtney G. & Gev are safely on to next week too. This leaves Chris & Comfort on stage. I'm guessing they're not safe since there's only two couples left. Yep. They're in the bottom. Adam told them that it's a lesson in not just relying on technique. They have to really act and perform with abandon, especially when it's a performance piece. He added that they shouldn't think that they're not good dancers, it's just the way the show is set up. I heart Adam.

One more commercial and our last dancers are on hand to learn their fate. Between Kourtni L. & Matt and Jessica & Will, somewhat surprisingly Kourtni & Matt are in the bottom. Crap. I like all the girls that are on the chopping block. Nigel's somewhat rudely worded advice was for Kourtni to recapture the twinkle she had in her eyes during the auditions and for Matt to immerse himself in the characters of the dance.

Our guest dancers are QUEST, the group that Dominic, Hok and Ryan are members of (and there's a chick!). They're dancing to "Chemical Calisthenics" by Blackalicious which surely inspired the scientist theme the number had. It was a cool piece and it was nice seeing Hok again.

Solo time!

1. Chelsea T.
Song: "A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway

2. Thayne
Song: "Always" by Bon Jovi

3. Comfort
Song: "Just Fine" by Mary J. Blige

4. Chris
Song: "After Tonight" by Justin Nouzuka

5. Kourtni L.
Song: "Fire Door (Live)" by Ani Difranco

6. Matt
Song: "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz

Crap. This sucks. I really like all the girls and thought they all did well on their solos. I can't even guess who'll they'll send home. As for the guys...it's also a toss up, though I'm not as attached to these three as I am to say, Joshua, Mark and Twitch.

As the judges go off to deliberate, we get to her the new single from the lovely Jordin Sparks. It's called "One Step At A Time" and I'm just so glad she can sing after those throat issues she was having.  She sounded good. Like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, she's got one of those voices I just like hearing regardless of the song.

Chelseatraille_soyouthinkyoucandanc Back from the break, the girls are the first to find out their fates. Chelsea T. is cut loose straight away, with nary an explanation. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That about sums up my feelings. I thought Chelsea's solo was the best and it's messed up that there wasn't any sort of reason given. Though I think my reaction would probably be the same no matter which girl got sent home.

Chrisjarosz_soyouthinkyoucandance_3 Matt is saved with an apology from Nigel that he comes down so hard on him since his solo was "brilliant." Chris, however, is not as lucky and he's gong home. As soon as the end music starts, Comfort was on the stage and leaped on Chris to hug him within three seconds. This means Thayne and Comfort are now partners.

Is anyone surpised by tonight's preceedings? Should someone else have been sent home or in the Bottom 3? How do you think Comfort & Thayne will work as partners? Any other thoughts?

i would like to know the song that was used for the group song on the result show on thurs 26 .think was the dance but i cant find it. please let me know

It's tough, sometimes it's the luck of the draw. I thought Chris and Comfort didn't do that great of a job with not that great of a dance. And poor Chelsea - her downfall was having to dance to Phil Collins. The quick step - to Can't Hurry Love? Horrible!! (I couldn't wait for the dance to end just so I didn't have to hear the music anymore - torture!).

To respond to Stacy (1st post): Tamara put the name of the song for the group dance right at the beginning of her recap. It was indeed "The Dance" by Charlotte Martin.

Kourtni and Matt both absolutely killed their solos! They actually danced to the music and emoted as opposed to running around the stage and doing leaps and tricks with nothing artistic holding it all together.

Oh yeah, and I agree about the music for the quickstep -- Phil Collins??? That was all wrong for that style and very distracting! I felt bad for Chelsea and Thayne, but think it really was her time to go. It was a tossup between Thayne and Chris...

I really hated to see Chelsea go--imo it should of been Komfort!! Chris was a casualty I guess--maybe he would of done better with another partner!! My faves are still Joshua & Katie--Love, Love, Love them!! The number was off hook last night-WOW!!!!!!!! I also love Chelsea & Mark & Courtney & Gev--all those couples are so cute together--& have such good chemistry!! Definately good pairing for all those couples!! I also love Twich, & Will is good, & I also like Kourtni & Matt!! Wow, what a good year this is--alot of great dancer's!! I'm not sure who I want to go all they way yet--althought I sure hope Joshua & Katie make it to the end!! Also hope Chelsea & Mark, & Courtney & Gev go along way too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, I thought that Comfort was going home, but Chelsea deserved to go home just based on today's solos. I have no problem with the decision as to me neither of them (Comfort or Chelsea) was going to make the top 10 - at least not my top 10.

No problem with any of the guys should they have been chosen to go, but I also agree that Chris had the weakest solo.

I thought the judges got it right.

It'll be interesting to see if Thayne and Comfort will work well together.

I thought that Comfort's solo last night was dreadful and was really surprised that she didn't go home. I'm okay with Chelsea going home though, there was something about her that always seemed a little off.

I'm disappointed that Thayne stayed and Chris left though. I felt that Chris had a lot more personality than Thayne. Whoever it was that compared Thayne to a villain from Buffy the Vampire Slayer -> now that comparison is stuck in my head!

I'm really loving most of the dancers who are left. Comfort, Jessica and Courtney would probably be my female picks to go home over the next few weeks. As for the guys... Thayne... and then can we keep them all? ;)

I'm not surprised - the eliminations make sense. I agree that setting the quick step to "Can't Hurry Love" was very distracting and thus a disservice to Chelsea and Thayne, but my husband and I thought they still looked stiff.

A quibble with the show: Nigel is always praising the choreographers, but it seems that the couples will get critiqued based on the choreography. That strikes me as unfair, though I have to admit I have no knowledge of dance except for enjoying it as entertainment and art.

One more quibble - people have done some raving about Courtney and Gev, but every dance thy have done has seemed to lack fluidity. There have been stumbles and choppy moves where smoothness seemed to be important. But again, I could be missing something.

And then a quibble with myself. I'm nit-picking here. The dancers are terrific and I thoroughly enjoy their talent and art on stage. Congratulations to every last one of them.

Michelle you said: "A quibble with the show: Nigel is always praising the choreographers, but it seems that the couples will get critiqued based on the choreography. That strikes me as unfair, though I have to admit I have no knowledge of dance except for enjoying it as entertainment and art."

I couldn't agree with you more. I think that the sometimes the judges can not separate the dancers from the choreography. It seems that if they really like the choreography they love the dancers and if they don't like the choreography the critique of the dancers seems more harsh.

I think all of the dancers are extremely talented and versatile and do the best with what they are given.

I was frankly expecting Comfort to get booted, but if not her, then Chelsea was the next choice - Kourtni definitely had the best solo. As for the guys, I knew it was going to be Chris, although Thayne was definitely in the running; he may be next. Loved Matt's solo; as someone else said, it seemed well-choreographed and not just random stuff thrown out there.

And what is up with the wardrobe folks? That abomination of a dress they put Cat in...at least her hair wasn't the disaster it was last night. And I think that was the only problem with Matt & Kourtni's number last night; the wardrobe folks just don't understand 'cartoon' as a concept. I think something a bit more 'anime', in both costume and hairstyle, would have made it just awesome.

As for the opening number, I was sure it was a Wade Robson number! Who knew the pretentious and over-hyped Mia Michaels could pull something that freaktastic out her, um, head?

Finally, still not a big fun of Dominic (whom the show really seems to be pimping like crazy), but it was great seeing Ryan (from S1) again.

Oh, and I kind of agree with what someone else said about Courtney & Gev. I really like them a lot, but their dance last night seemed rather stilted to me; I was surprised the judges gave unreserved praise with nary a criticism. Just figured I don't know the samba (or was it rumba, I forget).

comfort should have gone last night

her duets have not been good all three weeks
