'Greek': College is just one big logic problem
LSAT pop quiz: if you want your girlfriend back but are pretending to only be her friend, while secretly bribing other guys to keep them away from her, how many episodes will pass until she finds out the truth and kicks you out of her life for good? Sorry, trick question! Everyone knows if you are a
character in a soapy college drama, the answer is NEVER lie to the one
you love, because he or she will always find out the truth. Casey does
just that this week when Evan's blackmail is finally revealed, leaving
their relationship at a complete standstill yet again. Is this the
final nail in the Evan/Casey coffin? Seeing as this is only the second
season, I'm sort of doubtful.
These spoilers have totally reached their credit limit.
How did Casey and Evan's big confrontation come about? Well, after Casey decides to take an LSAT prep course Evan recommends, she discovers everyone else who is law school bound is far more gung-ho than she is and asks Evan for a little help tutoring her in the practice tests. It turns out the tests are mostly logic problems and Casey is a whiz at logic due to her mad "Sunday Sudoku" skills. Once she applies her zen-like sudoku knowledge to the logic problems she ends up acing the practice test. When she goes to thank Evan for his help, Ashleigh remarks to Frannie how she thinks the cute couple will be back together before Spring Break starts, and Frannie's manipulative wheels finally start to spin again, seeing as she has her sights firmly set on getting Mr. Omega Chi for herself. Old Frannie comes out when she goads Ashleigh into confronting the frat boy who Evan blackmailed, knowing the truth will come out and all the dirty work will be done for her without her having to get her hands dirty.
Or course, Ashleigh immediately tells Casey (thankfully off camera) and Casey confronts Evan about what he did. He denies it at first, but realizes he has to own up to his actions and pitifully says he did it because he loves her. Casey isn't swayed and the aforementioned severing of ties begins. Oh, Evan. Every time you take two steps forward as a character you always manage to take one right back. In the end, Casey realizes she doesn't want to be a lawyer at all, and was only going along that path to follow Evan. Now, her goal is to find her own path in the future. Here's to female characters asserting their independence!
Also having a bit of a logic issue this week is Rusty, who is busy getting prepared for Spring Break by adjusting to his new persona, a.k.a. the persona on his fake I.D., "Chad Stewart." When Cappie takes him to a local bar to test the new plastic they discover that Chad Stewart is actually a cult underground musician in the area when the bartender recognizes the name on the I.D. and proceeds to freak out like a total fangirl. Rusty takes to his new persona a bit too quickly, even agreeing to go to a party with the smitten bartender. Both Cappie and Dale warn Rusty about getting too big for his britches, but Rusty is caught in the Chad fever and goes to the party, bringing Dale along for backup since Dale knows a lot about music. Unfortunately for Rusty, Dale can't help him when he gets to the party and learns it's actually the bartender's sister's wedding, who is expecting a live performance from Chad Stewart as she walks down the aisle. Dale gleefully urges Rusty to get on stage and sing, and that little moment of hilarity pretty much saves the episode for me. Finally, Rusty (who can't sing at all, not even a little bit) has to admit he isn't Chad Stewart, an action which causing a chain reaction among the bridal party and destroys the entire ceremony. Heh.
The final character suffering from logic problems this week is Ashleigh. Broke and lamenting how she won't be able to afford the upcoming Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, she perks up when she spies one of those ubiquitous credit card application booths in the campus quad. This can't turn out well. Seeing her card as a license to spend instead of the first chapter of a cautionary tale, she proceeds to max the entire thing out, blowing $1000 in what seems like a week. Yikes. Calvin urges her to return some of the things she bought, but instead Ashleigh calls the credit card company and gets her credit limit increased. Someone is going down, and hard.
Next week: Spring Break. For real this time.

Weak episode for a variety of the reasons you outlined, but greatest moment: "STEVE HOLT!" He was totally Shane's friend at Dobblers. It made me happy.
"Frat boy who Evan blackmailed" - I so can't remember his name - looks just as bad. I know Ashleigh was yelling at him, but admitting the truth makes him look like a loser as well.
Is it really going on break?? For how long?! Greek is the best show, always entertaining
Myles, I've made a huge mistake. I can't believe I missed STEVE HOLT! Thanks for pointing it out.
Small thing, but Evan didn't blackmail the frat boy, he paid him not to go out with Casey. Saying that he was blackmailed makes it seem as if he was a victim too, instead of a loser like he is.
