Blakelively3_gossipgirl_240 After last week's "OMFG"-laden, Diet-Coke-spitting, lacquered-nail-biting episode of 'Gossip Girl', your faithful recapper has prepared herself for this week's fireworks with a Bellini. Or three. If the darlings of the Upper East Side are going to top last week's party, what with the cheating, the gaiety, and the murder, girlfriend is going to need a cocktail.

Good morning, Upper East Siders! Georgina stalks the streets of New York, leaving messages for Serena while wearing literal pounds of accessories, while in DUMBO/Brooklyn/wherever the Poors live, Rufus practices his old Lincoln Hawk tunes for a Rolling Stone-sponsored "Forgotten Bands of the 90s" reunion concert to be broadcast on VH1. Classic! Oh, no, to be broadcast on VH1 Classic. Less cool. Dan is too tired from his sleepless night - since the dramatic events of last week's episode took place, in UES time, last night - to give a proper Humphrey retort. He tells his dad that he and Serena have had another fight about her vague untruthfulness, to which Rufus (and thank GOD people have started to say this) rightly points out that it is hard to be truthful to someone who judges everyone, everywhere, for everything they say and/or do. Dan, who is doing something terribly Seth Cohen with his hair, seems to actually hear this. But I'm sure he'll forget soon enough. Elsewhere in Poortown, Nate stalks Vanessa and this whole relationship is so gross. Their banal patter is interrupted by a call to Nate's cell, and they agree to meet up at the Lincoln Hawk concert tonight.

Edwestwick_chacecrawford2_gossipgir Chez Van Der Bass, a minion reminds Bart and Lily that their rehearsal dinner is tonight at the same time as the concert - what are the chances? - but that Lily's interview with Rolling Stone - what are the chances? - is in half an hour. Dan arrives looking for Serena only to be blocked by Chuck, wearing golf pants, boat shoes and my grandfather's cardigan and eating chocolate cake with his hands. I love this man. Chuck answers his phone and tells the caller that S didn't come home last night. Although Dan attempts to listen in, he's a Humphrey, and they're just no good at any of this stuff. Chuck heads over to the Waldorf manse, only to find himself sharing a sullen elevator with ex-bestie Nate, the only other man who has, ah, known the Queen B. Awkward! They sit down in the foyer to wait. Dan, who is now waiting outside of the Palace - because there is no time or space here - runs into Georgina, who immediately has to become Sarah, upping her voice by an octave. Dan reveals to G that Serena didn't come home last night before his cell phone rings. Although the Caller ID says "Serena", it is in fact a bartender, who reveals that S left her cell phone at a bar last night when she left. With three men. And Blair, in the most perfect yellow dress, arrives home with a sick and sobbing Serena, begging Nate and Chuck for help. Nate and Blair pour S into the shower while Chuck runs out for carbohydrates and hangover cures. Blair says that after Serena told her "something" last night, she ran out and it took B all night to find her.

Rufus and Vanessa unload Lincoln Hawk's amps, etc, while a roadie reads the Post's coverage of the Bass wedding. Uptown, a Rolling Stone interviewer hits Lily with some nastily pointed questions about her relationship with Rufus until Dan interrupts looking for Serena. Lily sends him off to Blair's, where he finds an uneasy detente between B, Chuck and Nate. They all attempt to cover for Serena, telling Dan that S doesn't want to see him. S staggers down the stairs in an insane purple velvet bathrobe circa 'Dynasty' to have a heart-to-heart with Dan in front of the other three. She relievedly, tearfully, tells Dan that she slept with someone else last night, but I don't believe her: I think she's using this as an excuse to set Dan free without letting him know how terrible her sin truly was. Of course, "Sarah" calls at this instant to offer comfort, and he heads off to meet her in the park.

Lily crazies out over meaningless wedding details to the aforementioned minion, until her phone rings. And Dorota - that bitch! - is calling to rat Serena out. She tells Lily that her daughter is like she used to be "before she went away." Lily excuses herself calmly and runs upstairs to root madly through Serena's room, amusingly tossing a Lincoln Hawk cd aside before finding the USB drive Georgina sent. Chez Waldorf, S reveals to the Unholy Trinity that she  didn't cheat on Dan and the boys beg her to reveal her secret, as they're no saints themselves: Blair reminds her that she had sex with Chuck in the back of a limo, Nate reminds her that he had sex with her on a barstool at the Shepherd wedding, and Chuck reminds her, "I'm Chuck Bass." Heh. B tells her they're the "non-judging Breakfast Club" and ooh! Chuck was deflowered by Georgina in sixth grade! This episode keeps getting better and better.

Leightonmeester5_gossipgirl_240 The next two things happen simultaneously: Serena tells the story of the Shepherd wedding while Lily watches the content of the USB drive. After her rendezvous with Nate, Serena left (awesomely, in his tuxedo shirt, begging the question of what NATE wore home) in a taxi to meet with G at a hotel where we already know that Georgina set Serena up for a sex tape with a random guy. S whines about her betrayal of Blair, and Random complains about the lack of action. G and Random snort some coke while Serena half-heartedly hooks up with Random. Lily, at this point in the tape, shuts her computer in disgust. However, at this point Serena pushed the guy off of her, at which point he snorts - at her urging - another line and overdoses. Serena attempts to call an ambulance but Georgina stops her, and the girls leave. Serena watches from across the street as the body bag is loaded into the ambulance.

Serena makes Chuck, Nate and Blair promise to never tell Dan what she has told them. Everyone showers - I hope - and Serena, Chuck and Blair make their way to the rehearsal dinner. Blair looks amazing in sequins, pearls and a truly epic headband. Lily  pulls her daughter aside  to tell her that she's planning on sending her to reformatory school. Later, Blair interrupts Lily to demand that she not send Serena away. And - honestly - I have been waiting since the inception of this show for these two to throw down. They're the only truly worthy adversaries on the show. Blair reveals to Lily that Serena has a secret, and that it's killing her, and that Blair is out of her league here. And for the Waldorf to admit that there is a league beyond her own is a sacrifice beyond measure.

Matthewsettle_gossipgirl_240Meanwhile, Dan and Georgina arrive at the concert to find Rufus hanging with Lisa Loeb. Yay! I'm so watching 'Reality Bites' after this! But when D and G head for the seats, a walleyed girl starts bellowing "Georgina" at her. Although G ignores her, Dan's interest is piqued. Nate calls Vanessa to tell her he's running late and - forgive me for harping on these things, when you know that my love for this show is pure and complete - but it's daytime where Nate is, and nighttime where Vanessa is. Vanessa tells Nate that Sarah is there with Dan, and Nate tells Vanessa something along the lines of "don't listen to anything she says! I'll tell you more in act three!" Nate promptly calls the Queen B and asks for her advice, and she  tells him to stay put, and that she'll come find him. She immediately bats her Shu Uemura falsies at Chuck and lures him along for the inevitable smackdown. Meanwhile, Lily gets a mysterious address from Chuck, and tells Bart that she has to go deal with Serena. Bart accuses her of being secretive lately - shades of Dan and Serena - but she won't tell him what's going on.

Kellyrutherford2_gossipgirl_240 Later that evening, someplace where it is also daytime, Lily and Serena's towncar pulls up at a brownstone. Lily tells Serena that it is the home of the parents of the boy who overdosed, and that they are expecting Serena. Lily stands by Serena's side as the boy's parents exonerate S of any culpability in his death. This is a woman whose son came out of the closet yesterday, whose daughter admitted to involuntary manslaughter today, and who is marrying her fourth husband tomorrow. Lily Van der Woodsen, you are a rock star. The two women head off to the concert to be honest with Dan. At the concert, Vanessa confronts G about her duplicity, and asks "Sarah" if there's anything she wants to tell her. G stalks away, and Dan chases after her after Vanessa gives him a shorthand version of the lie. Georgina admits that her name is, indeed, Georgina, but tearfully tells him that she's in hiding because her abusive ex is after her. Quick on her feet, this one! Then she tells Dan that she's in love with him, and then quickly apologizes, and he suggests that they go somewhere quiet to talk. He takes her hand and they walk away as Lincoln Hawk takes the stage.

The Unholy Trinity approaches Vanessa looking for Georgina. Vanessa and Nate head off looking for Dan and Georgina as Serena approaches, also looking for Dan and Georgina. So in corner A we have Dan and G, in corner B we have Vanessa and Nate, in corner C we have Blair and Serena, and in corner D we have Lily Van Der Woodsen, finding herself once again backstage at a Lincoln Hawk concert. She and Rufus lock eyes as he sings a song clearly inspired by her a lifetime ago, and she comes to a decision and walks away. Rufus, bailing on his encore, runs offstage after her and she asks him repeatedly to "get out of her way." They kiss outside in the street as Georgina calls S from Dan's cell phone. She tells Serena that she should still be afraid of her, and that "all bets are off." G hangs up on Serena and kisses Dan. Oh, we officially have a couple grosser than Nate and Vanessa. Ew.

Next week: the season finale! The Van Der Bass wedding! Punches and extensions fly through the air! Oh, happy day!

Well, kudos to commenters SohoLove and everyone who agreed - Serena's not a murderess. And neither is Georgina (although she's more culpable than S in this.) This episode was pretty darned perfect, if you ask me - reuniting Chuck, Nate and Blair, pushing Lily and Rufus back together, and eliminating Little J entirely. But really, I worry about your feelings more than my own. So...dish!

Zap2it Elite Sheet Must Reads from the Web's In-Crowd

I wouldn't call this one perfect or imperfect. It just effectively tied up most of what was untied last week. Soooo, good one writers!

I still don't see how Serena could have had this whole overdose business hanging over her head all this time and not be just a teeny bit more morose than she has been. When she first came back at the beginning of the season, she was sad and sorry -- but once she and Blair made up and her sexcapade with Nate had been revealed -- she became a veritable ray of sunshine. All jumpy and happy with Dan and all positive and supportive of Blair.

I, personally, find this storyline and Serena's involvement in it to be quite far-fetched ... and not in the good way, either.

I also don't see how Dan is any more or less judgmental than other characters on the show. Blair claimed not to judge and yet she judged Serena quite harshly when she left to go to boarding school without saying anything to her. Not so long ago, Chuck judged Blair harshly for sleeping with both Nate and him. Nate was hardly lacking in judgment when he ratted his father's drug abuse out to his mother.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point. No one on this show should throw any stones in their gl*** houses of judgment.

Dan just tends to be right more often than not when he judges and people don't like it when others are right. Too bad.

Notice: Georgina knew Dan would judge her when he heard her name wasn't Sarah, but she correctly determined that he'd judge her frailties as acceptable if presented in the right light. Bummer for Dan since he's clearly being taken advantage of, but kudos for Georgina for reading her victim so well. (Obviously a whole lot better than some of the other characters do on the show.)

I like Nate and Vanessa as a couple. their relationship is a bit random, I'll admit, but they're cute together. I hope those two crazy kids can make it work.

Serena should know the first rule of any relationship: Don't lie to the other person to cover up another lie. She took the easy way out by telling Dan she'd cheated on him. Predictably, he felt betrayed, was hurt, got mad and went away. Problem solved! She doesn't have to tell him the tougher truth!

But now he's not going to trust when she does tell him the truth and she very effectively left the door open for the highly untrustworthy Georgina to play with his mind. Messes are always worse to clean up if you try to ignore them. You'd think she'd have learned this by now considering her past.

She should have confided in him. Dan does think highly of Serena, but he also seems to understand that she's human. I think he might have surprised her if she'd just given him a chance. Now she'll never know.

I'm very glad that Rufus and Lily got back together. I wonder how it will all work out seeing as Lily's getting married in the morn ... to another man!

I liked the pic she took of Rufus "back in the day". The Rolling Stone interview, to me, came out of left field -- do couples in NYC announce their weddings in Rolling Stone as well as The Times now? -- but it was interesting to see Lily squirm about Rufus.

She didn't love him ... that much. Yeah.

Next week should be good.

A Bellini sounds great. Should just hit the spot. I'm off to get one now.

It wasn't night in Brooklyn, they were just in studio the whole time.

I really enjoyed this episdoe and your wonderful and hilarious recap Jordan! I didnt find the Serena storyline far-fetched for the main reason that his is a soapy show. Most of it is made up and you just have to go with it and enjoy it. I mean seriously, these characters are suppose to be in 11th grade and what 17?? (Just go with it)

My favorite part by far was the reunion of the major 4. That was so funny when Dan asked them something like "I thought you guys hate each other?" and they all said different lines that mean they definitely still do!

I don't necessarily have a problem with Nate and Vanessa although he definitely could be matched with a better character. (I thought he was going to be the gay one).

And, until you mentioned it above, I did not even realize that Jennie was not in the episode...that shows how useless her character is.

Finally, I love Rufus and Lily together!

Jordan, I found the "I killed a guy" confession a shade shark jumpy as well. More to the point, this episode seemed a departure from the norm for the characters.

Blair, Chuck and Nate NOT judgemental? Erm, clearly there is a pre- and post-strike continuity.

I agree that Serena was strangely happy with that secret hanging over, but I have seen professionally delusional happy people and it fits. Instead of dealing as she has now begun to, she ran and ran. Georgina is the secret catching her.

Dan is usually more perceptive (remem Serena's grandma anyone?), but perhaps he's more upset that the UES Injustice League was back together, and that means, old influences.

Serena is an idiot for not enlisting Dan. He's always bought into her when she flashes a smile and tosses that gorgeous hair.

My final thought is, Vanessa is to blame for this imbroglio. She should have waited for the Injustice League to arrive before springing the trap. Georgina wasn't going anywhere. I was hoping for a televised smackdown on VH1 Cl***ic...

Rufus proved that even HE forgot Lincoln Hawk, didn't he...?

omg. i could have slapped Vanessa, or the writers... i was so mad they let georgina go this easily!!i found the whole big story went away very quick and left a very bad taste in my mouth. I still enjoyed the "injustice league" teaming up. Adored chuck in his enforcer role...the more i watch this show the more i love him. blair, role was really surprising. She just switched from the cold b+&* to the sweetest bff 4ever.

Overall i found everything really rushed but all was entertaining.

Interestingly, I thought Dorota called Lily because she was truly worried about Serena, not just to rat her out...I was really happy to see B's staff be responsible (as adults should) rather than just taking orders from a group of teens. I'm going to have to watch the scene again, and I'll be really disappointed if she just made the call to be spiteful.

Great recap. I knew a lot happened in the episode, but reading it now, I realize it was kinda breathless.

Ya know, now that this show has fully embraced the soap part of a teen soap opera, I have to admit, I kind of love it. I always watched with a vague fascination (and enjoyment), but sometimes it was a little dull and I almost couldn't figure out why I stuck with it, but now it's fun...

Leighton Meester is SO good as Blair, it's true that she needs someone like Kelly Rutherford as Lily to tussle with, mainly because some of the best acting on ths show comes from these two women. Blake Lively is lovely, but Serena should be so much MORE and could be in the hands of a better actress, imho...

It's growing into something of a running joke of putting completely wacked out clothes on Chuck and personally, I love it! This week, the crowning touch it was the red socks on that already incredible ensemble he was sporting.

Vanessa and Nate aren't exactly gross, but their pairing is beyond random. So far, Vanessa has no point. Since the show never fully played out the storyline of her going after Dan, she's kinda there now with no purpose except to be POOR and a contrast to our main characters.

I missed Jenny in the episode and I don't think she's useless as someone suggested. I like her as a kind of scheming social climber; but as mentioned before, the writers couldn't seem to decide if she was really basically good or bad. So they had her give in to Blair which hope doesn't end her grab for power.

The writers need look no further than to a character like Erica Kane form All My Children to figure out how to make an essentially good character (that the audience identifies with) who often does questionable, even very bad things.

Jordan, you're not the only one; I kept thinking it was switching from day to night as well.

The writers really goofed by not having a BIG blow up with Georgina and the Injustice League with Serena and Dan in the middle. Huge opportunity lost there; though I guess that would have wiped out the likely cliffhanger of "did Dan and Georgina hook up", which I don't really need.

Not much enjoyable drama comes from Dan and Serena. The writers should just leave them together and look for plot excitement elsewhere...

I think it had to be switching from day to night -- who has a formal rehearsal dinner like Lily and Bart's during the daytime? Plus, Serena was apparently missing "all day" according to Lily, when she was trying to reach Serena at Blair's-- the implication being that even though Serena had been gone all day, it was approaching the evening and time for the rehearsal.

Somehow, though, I rarely notice those problems when I'm watching, I just enjoy the show so darn much!

Another great episode!

Serena reveal being LAME --) nothing new!

Dan--) pretty stupid for being so smart

This is teh FIRST episode I did not find G, S, adn D very annoying BECAUSE Blair, Chuck, and Nate were availabe to counteract the horrible Serena storyline (I'm sorry but Blake Lively just can't carry an episode herself like Leighton Meester can....example, episode 15).

Chuck had the best lines...AGAIN.

Best scene in show was when Blair asked chuck for help to take Georgina down...Chuck/Blair are HOT, their chemistry is off the charts...and these two actors can ACT...Hello...goldmine anyone??? This couple has a huge fanbase...yet I don't understand why teh writers show so many few scenes between Chuck and Blair

Nate --) acted like a baby as usual but I love his scenes with B, and C.

Seriously, NBCS interaction is a so much fun...I hope GG shows more of that next year (I won't be suprised if we see more o fhtis interaction in the Hamptons in the beginning of season 2)

I just saw the EXTENDED PROMO on youtube...I just melted when Chuck said that comment to Blair...I can't wait for the finale!!!

Okay "I'm Chuck B***." Best line ever on GG.

Then he followed it up with an even better one: "Let's get the b***h!"

I'm sooo in love with Chuck!
