'The Bachelor: London Calling': I'd Be Into Me
Previously! on 'The Bachelor: London Calling': Matt kissed everyone, jealousies (and, let's be honest, probably a herpe or two) flared, and Shayne bugged the living crap out of everyone. Even Matt! But he still wants to sleep with her. Sigh.
This week includes a group date, a solo date, and a brutal sudden-death-elimination double date. Ashlee, Shayne, Kelly, Chelsea, Noelle and Robin's date involves tennis rackets and tea cups. The girls take on Matt on the tennis court, where he has trouble keeping his hands off Chelsea. Ashlee has trouble understanding the phrase "taking it in stride", but Matt is too distracted by her sub-Jewel vocal stylings to notice. Matt kisses Ashlee. The ladies take tea overlooking a lake, where Robin infuriates the other girls with her incessant babble about tea. She steals Matt away for a private chat, after which the other girls castigate Robin for her competitive nature, bringing her to tears. But in the end, looking good in athletic apparel trumps a knowledge of tea, and Chelsea wins the rose.
Back at the house, the date box reveals that Amanda is going on the solo date with Matt. Which means, of course, that either Marshana or Holly will be going home at the end of their joint date. Oh, the drama! Amanda gets her hiccups from her nerves over her solo date with Matt. The two take a vintage roadster to a 50's diner and indulge in some french fries and dancing. Amanda honestly seems too awkward to live sometimes, but it's a nice change from the slurry slutting of the Shaynes of the competition. Apparently it's a nice change for Matt as well, as he gives her a rose. Matt kisses Amanda (that's two, for those of you who are keeping count.) They take a ferris wheel ride overlooking Los Angeles.
Marshana and Holly learn that their date will involve cooking, and that they both will be packing their bags...but only one can return to the house. That's really brutal, producers. Holly and Marshana both feel that Marshana is heading into the date as the underdog, as Holly has already had a solo date and kiss with Matt. Over dinner, both girls profess to wanting to move to London to be with their bachelor. He pulls Marshana aside for some one-on-one time and kisses her. That's three! While cuddling with Matt on a bed, Holly tells him how strong her feelings are for him. And he kisses her! Four! Matt agonizes (uh huh) over his decision before giving the rose to Marshana. Wait, what? Seriously? Oy, and he tells Holly that he found conversation "difficult" with her. OUCH.
Matt arrives at the house to whittle the group down by another two women. Matt asks Ashlee whether she would give up her music for him, and she says "eh, um, we could make something work, maybe?" And sweet Noelle gets some solo time with Matt! Hooray! She reminds me of Amy Acker. However, she doesn't seem to make much of an impression on Matt. Kelly is starting to get really defensive and emotional about the fact that she hasn't gotten a rose. So she decides to show Matt her breasts. She is so, so drunk. She's the Shayne of this episode. Oh, except for the fact that Shayne wants to be the Shayne of this episode! She tells him to hurry up and send the other girls home already. He responds to her endless whining by kissing her. That's five! Chris enters to speed along the process. This week's scientific guess: Noelle and Kelly are going home. But! Sweet little Noelle once again flies under the radar and gets the rose! Annoying Ashlee will be accompanying Kelly home. Whoo hoo! Kelly drunkenly rambles about how hot she is. Yes, dear. We also believe you're 24 years old. Ashlee, for her part, sobs through the song she wrote for Matt at the first date. It's as tuneful as you would expect.
Next week: skiing! Horse-drawn carriages! Dramatic hand gestures!
What did you think, my desperate little divas and divettes? (Divos?) Did Kelly turn into that really sad older woman at the end of the bar at last call? Were you really, really hoping Marshana would go home? Cause I was! Spill!
I don't know where I stand with this season of the Bachelor. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. I have definitely been surprised though.
First, Matt sent Holly home. Did he really do that? I think she is really sweet and nice and I can't understand what he has against her. I forgot, "It was hard to talk to her"??? He had a great date with her last week, although he did say they "were too comfortable with each other", which is somehow a bad thing. He could have at least eliminated her last week and saved her the embarrassment of being passed over in favor of Marshana
However, he did eliminate Ashlee so I (hopefully) never have to hear her sing again. (They won't have her sing when the "Women tell all" will they???)
Another bonus was that Matt did realize that Kelly had some issues. Do they have anything besides alcohol to drink at those parties? Seriously ladies, how does getting drunk and being incoherent make you look like the woman he wants to take home to mom?
I guess I should be grateful that two of the three he sent home were good choices.
But, please, please, PLEASE send Marshana home next week!
Confused | Apr 8, 2008 8:38:25 AM | #I know I was sooo hoping marshana was gone!!! I dont think I can stand to see them kiss anymore-not with that lip thing that happens. Kiss shane, kiss anyone else pleaseeeeeeee
LauraK | Apr 8, 2008 8:53:49 AM | #Here we freakin' go. You people are hating on Marshana because she is black. That's why LauraK wants to see him kiss "anyone else" and that's why Confused thought it was an embarrassment that Marshana was chosen over Holly. Look inside your souls people. And I hope to God he takes her all the way to the end, because that's something none of the American bachelors ever did. It takes a British bachelor to show that color does not matter. Ya people make me sick.
Missy | Apr 8, 2008 11:17:50 AM | #Missy
i am so surprised like you to see how much people can hate marshanna when all around the house you have other women attitude really discutable. and i want to point out the reaction of the girls when they took Holly stuff out. i heard one say:"no way". what does it suppose to mean? that marshana is not good enough than a Shayne or Robin?...Come on, at the end the show is about someone giving the chance to love to happen. i want to see one white girl trapped with just black girls and tell me she will not feel all alone or insecure and nervous. you should all take some time to think before writing stuff!!! and thx Missy
Mantisss | Apr 8, 2008 11:45:27 AM | #There are several girls that I like least from the get-go, and Marshana was amongst that group. Kelly was in that group as well. I can honestly say that ethinicity didn't not even enter my mind until reading this blog. Nor did I think the groups reaction to Holly's departure was any different than many other group reactions from previous Bachelors'. I believe because Holly was so sweet and available to the other girls, the group's reaction was one that reflected the loss they were feeling personally. Just saying.
Zimm | Apr 8, 2008 12:08:44 PM | #Thank you Zimm. That is what I meant.
I can honestly say that until I read the blog again to see if anyone else had posted yet I had never thought that what I wrote could be considered racist. I am offended that anyone would jump to that conclusion as I also said I was glad Ashlee and Kelly were gone (and they are both white). I thought Holly would be a girl that would be there a lot longer, that is all.
And as for saying the lip thing was racist, I don't like Mick Jagger's lips and he's white.
Do you want to know what is really disgusting? It is judging people when you don't even know what they meant so shame on you Missy and Mantisss!
Confused/Brenda | Apr 8, 2008 12:43:10 PM | #I want Marshana gone not because she is black, but because she is a b***h, just like I want Shanye gone.
DB | Apr 8, 2008 2:07:36 PM | #So what's the deal with Noelle? She gets zero on screen time. Is she too boring for the producers ? In the last episode she and Matt went for a walk together - we didn't get to see a minute of it. I think she might be the dark horse.
Nikki | Apr 8, 2008 2:35:17 PM | #I really don't think anyone intended to sound racist about Marshana. I didn't read it that way, anyway. A black co-worker and I were discussing today that Marshana had made it farther than any other black woman on the franchise, but that we want her gone because she's OBNOXIOUS. Although I did find her much more mature than Holly, so maybe that - and her beauty and poise - helped Matt decide in her favor over Holly. Wait till her sees her group skills, however!
I would hope that these women like Stacey and Kelly who pull stunts like getting drunk and passing out or ripping open their blouse are horrified when the show airs, but given the direction of the country I doubt it. Their parents probably brag about their daughter being on TV, even if she WAS a drunken sleaze. Ah, fame.
And what the hell with Kelly? If you're such a dang fabulous catch, honey, you wouldn't have to resort to degrading yourself on a show to compete for a man who's going to dump you later. Lord have mercy, these clueless idiots. Mostly I was glad to see smug-looking Ashlee sent packing. She SO gave the wrong answer when he asked about her not being in music.
That said, I really like Amanda, Noelle and (usually) Chelsea. Like it all matters.
bella | Apr 8, 2008 4:14:07 PM | #You know what, I actually do apologize for judging anyone. I just actually don't find Marshana obnoxious at all and couldn't understand where the negativity was coming from. I just thought it was a race thing.
Missy | Apr 8, 2008 6:24:58 PM | #I do not have anything against Marshana because she is black, she is just a bitch. And kelly was a wacko, and Shayne is whiny and annoying and unfortunately beautiful, and Robin is a bitch also. Jerks come in every color.
katie | Apr 9, 2008 7:36:43 AM | #robin is annoying and makes me angry i personally like marshana she's really cute i also like that meeps girl she is definitely cute. shayne is kind of a drunk and is a really bad actress.
brittany | Apr 9, 2008 12:53:54 PM | #Missy and Mantis - you're exactly the type of people that drive me crazy. The ones that anything negative said about someone of another race they immediately call RACIST! Can't you see that this attitude shows you as the only racists here? Nobody else even mentions race, skin color or origin. We only talk about the girls based on their behaviour, but you, not even knowing the person who posted the comment - Confused/Brenda - debase her in this despeakable way. Shame on you. This is an entertainment blog - you want to talk about social issues you have problems with, find yourself another place.
Brenda - I compeletely appreciate your stance on Marshanna. I did not like her from the second eposide on. I think the only reason Matt send Holy home over her was that he really had no real, sustainable connection with Holly - it was painful to watch her 'private time' with Matt on her two-on-one date. She had no idea how to carry on a conversation with him, and so it was time for her to go. I think Marshanna oly got a temporary reprieve. She will not go all the way - neither will Robin, nor Chelsea. I'm torn about Shane - it's not her fault that Matt has hots fot her, but that's all there is. She may make it to the last 2 becasue he can't stop himself from making out with her, but she will not be his final choice. Who will? Amanda? Noelle????? Actually I'm not sure I care anymore - it will not last anyway. At this point I just watch the show for entertainment. I find it hilarious what low some women will go to in order to further their own agenda - whether it's to really fall in love, or advance their career (I'm looking at you Ashlee). So again, Missy and Mantis - stop using this blog for what is not its purpose. We come here for fun, not to get aggrevated with comments like yours.
Ashlee could not be more clueless. Actually, Matt asked her what she would do if she went to London with him and her music did not work out. In other words, what would you fall back on? She answered, "Uh, dunno, we'd work it out." As though the thought had never entered her tiny mind before. BUT THEN, in her closing, she lamented that she wanted a man who would see her as something more than a songwriter! Hey, clueless, Matt gave you the chance to provide him some info, and you blew it!
Frank | Apr 9, 2008 2:46:49 PM | #I think Missy hit on something very true. The fact is though other posters might not talk about race explicitly, it is clear as day that Matts choice of a black woman over a blond white woman is totally unexpected and shocking! Come on! The Bachelors of the past have been so predictable that it has molded our expectation: The show will start with 23 white women, give or take, and 2 women of color. By the end of the second episode, these two token women are sent home!
So, I can understand, after seeing this for some many seasons in the past, why people are shocked that Matt is going against the script. Bravo to him!
Let's open our minds to this, and be totally honest with yourself.
Honesty Bell | Apr 10, 2008 6:22:44 AM | #Yahoo for Marshana! Anything is possible and love has no boundaries, right?? I would love to see Marshana make it to the finale!
Jackie | Apr 10, 2008 8:51:19 PM | #Is it obvious to anyone else besides me that he is going to pick Meeps? She is far and away the most attractive, grounded, and cute (personality wise) than any of the other girls in the house. As for the most annoying girls, it has to be Marshanna and Robin, with Shayne a close third. We will all see the true Marshanna the next episode, if the previews prove to be correct.
Bob | Apr 10, 2008 11:58:37 PM | #Thank you, Honesty Bell. People don't have to explicitly mention race to know exactly what they're talking about, Kitka. It is what it is. A black girl has never made it this far and I seriously doubt a black girl ever will, unless she looks like Halle Barry (AKA half white). Kudos to Marshana for lasting this long and kudos to the Bachelor for keeping her (not sure why tho). She is annoying and honestly the kissing scene was not cute (reminded me of Whoopi Goldberg kissing).
Mimi | Apr 11, 2008 8:15:06 PM | #I didnt say anything racist at all, and theres a reason for that--IM NOT RACIST! Not wanting to watch them kiss has nothing to do with either of their color. I dont like her because she is rude - just like alot of the other ones that i dont like. You dont know me Missy-so dont call me names.
LauraK | Apr 12, 2008 11:57:19 AM | #Sad to say, this show is so predictable and probably scripted. The girls draw from a hat to pick what character they are going to be. Shane is Tessa with an attitude. "I don't think it's worth it, I can't see you with other girls. etc. Unfortunately, Matt will take Shayne to the final three so he can sleep with her and help her career. I wish this show was for real because Shayne may be high maintainance but she does make him laugh. You notice how she is always next to him in a group when they show a bunch of them together just talking. The same thing with Tessa and Andy. But Shayne is from a broken home so how serious can Matt really be. It would be good if the Bach picked the hot chick for a change. The others are sooo boring. Is Matt going to be the "Stuffy Brit" and pick Robin or Chelsea or Amanda? Yuck! Give me Shayne and a little drama, any day! Marshana was chosen so he can send her home. The first week Matt picked Amanda, Chelsea and Shayne as the first three to give a rose. They are my picks for the final three. He's already decided, long ago.
Greg | Apr 13, 2008 6:40:17 PM | #Well here we are again...some guy is picked off the street, "given a title, several fake degrees and a ton of "fake" money" to mess around with a group of females who seem to become dimmer and produce more tears with each passing day Now that they have reached the "who got more kisses today?" phase - we're getting ready to learn which girl is the long awaited love of Mr. Lucky's life. What's wrong with this picture, people??? Isn't it obvious to all that this guy is "anybody's" He's no bargain, girls. Go home befor the light is out completely.
Sandy Yvonne | Apr 13, 2008 8:57:46 PM | #Noelle is amazing! Classy, sweet and smart. There are no other quality women on this series. Down to Earth and capable of real conversation that is void of tearing-down the other women present. That doesn't make for sensational tv; her wholesome and polite nature just does not equal ratings.
JEG | Apr 14, 2008 7:32:39 PM | #Chelsea is amazing!
Emily | Apr 16, 2008 8:15:51 PM | #I missed the last episode, but read the guide on the show's website. I was very shocked that Matt got rid of Marshana and your comments on this page regarding her come across "very" racist. For example check out what Mimi says about Marshana and Matt kissing. Be in denial however anyone standing on the outside can see that your comments on this page are racist. I have never seen Marshana act rude or be a b****. I do not know what you guys are referring to in regards to her attitude. You say she's mean, but in what way? What did she do to give people this negative perception of her? After what I read that happened between her and Chelsea I too would defend myself. I see Chelsea playing immature games after what she said to Marshana and that's something no man would want.
Truthful Tiffany | Apr 17, 2008 7:36:01 PM | #i dont think any black woman should go compete 4 men like matt or any barchelor series especially with white rich men, i dont even no why mershana thougth of puttin herself there.i only think she reach that far because matt felt sorry 4 her wen she fell and burst her lip.ive been watching the barchelor 4 about 2 years now and ive never seen a black woman make it.
