'Greek': How to be a stalker without even trying

Jacobzachar2_greek_240After last week's stellar episode of Greek, almost anything was bound to be a bit of a letdown. Tonight's installment, while not without its considerable charms, unfortunately had no choice but to pale in comparison.

These spoilers are written in indelible ink.

Rusty finally got a storyline of his own this week that had nothing to do with Cappie (in fact, they never even interacted, which might be a first in an episode they were both featured in) and it was sort of a fun one, considering it had everything to do with Dale, and Dale is awesome. It seems our young Rusty has decided it's time for him to go back "on the prowl" and he has his eyes on a very cute girl from his American Literature class, Emma. When Rusty hesitates to approach her, preferring to giggle like a schoolgirl from the shadows instead, Dale takes the reins with both hands and approaches Emma for Rusty and gets her to agree to meet him for coffee. Things hit a bit of a speed bump when Emma decides to bring her somewhat abrasive roommate Tina along on the date, prompting Rusty to bring Dale to keep Tina company. Dale hilariously worries his sex appeal will outshine Rusty's, and I have to agree with Dale. He wasn't voted "Most Likely to Have the Opportunity To Become Impure but Have the Supreme Self-Control Not To" three years running for nothing.

Once they get on the date, however, Tina takes over the whole thing and finds a kindred spirit in Dale as they both hate the Greek system.  Emma, however, is more the demure type and Rusty proceeds to try to "woo" her by doing such things as making her a mix CD (sending her a questionnaire inquiring about her favorite musical genres first), destroying her dorm room door white board and going over the top to replace it, and generally being a completely needy, overbearing person before they even have true first date. Emma gets totally freaked and completely bails on their budding relationship. Poor Rusty the stalker. He means well. Meanwhile, Tina is busy not falling under Dale's considerable charms but instead taking over the whole USAG operation and causing Dale a lot of distress. Rusty sticks up for Dale and asks Tina to back off, which she does, but interestingly the episode ends with Tina and Rusty having a meaningful conversation with potential sparks flying. Could Tina be Rusty's true match instead of Emma? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Over at ZBZ, the girls are starting to get back in the good graces of the upper echelon fraternity houses, and the girls all decide it's time for them to reach out to Omega Chi to get together with them again as well. Casey is hesitant at first, completely transferring her issues with Evan to the sorority. She does try to approach him, however, and is completely shut down. The lovely Ashley senses the girls are about to turn on Casey and enlists Calvin to take up their case with the brothers, and although Evan dissents the brothers almost unanimously agree to have a mixer with the ZBZs. Things seem to be going well until the actual mixer when Casey and Evan have to interact and the entire thing turns into a screaming match of epic proportions. Casey gets some good points in amid all the shouting, finally telling Evan that although she has feelings for both Cappie and Evan, she ultimately chose Evan so that has to count for something. She also points out that when he slept with Rebecca she gave him a second chance, which he has been completely unwilling to do for her. Point to Casey. In the end, Evan gets extremely drunk and wakes up the next morning (after trying to kiss Frannie and being rebuffed, which, nice one Frannie) having a total change of heart and going out to win Casey back. Unfortunately for Evan, he picked the exact time when Casey has decided to get over him to decide he wants her back. Ah, the old bad timing trick. A staple of the soap opera since the dawn of the genre. Let's hope Casey actually moves on this time, because the seesaw act is wearing a bit thin.

In wacky subplot land, Cappie is sick and Rebecca decides she needs to take care of him to live up to the legacy of Casey the perfect girlfriend. It turns out Cappie is a horrible patient and Rebecca barely makes it through, eventually hiring a Scandinavian nurse named Helga to take care of him instead. Of course, Cappie and Helga get along swimmingly because Cappie could charm the pants off of a never-nude, especially when he's doing it while wearing an eye patch. In the end, Rebecca admits she will never be Casey and Cappie seems perfectly OK with that. They're a cute couple, but if every week their storyline is entwined with Casey this is going to get old. This show needs some more characters, methinks.

What did you guys think? Are Rusty and Tina headed for a relationship? Is Dale really as irresistible as he thinks he is? And is Casey really over Evan or has she just convinced herself she is?

Dale's character is one of the better ones on the show. i hope they don't do the 'conservative with a secret life' bit to undercut him down the road.

I have to say, after the whiteboard scene, I was thinking they were setting Rusty and TIna up. I'm not against that. They could work

Also, is it just me, or did anyone think that Evan was the Omega Chi president? I was really thrown when Casey went over there and asked for someone else, because I guess I've always ***umed Evan was the pres.

Dwight, yes! I totally forgot to mention that. Why was Evan always the person on the Greek Council board thingy if he wasn't the president? Who is this "Dino"?

I second the idea of thinking Evan was the president. I mean, he decided that Omega Chi was no longer going to deal with ZBZ...shouldn't that be the president's decision?

I like Tina because she's a hard***. But I really dislike Rusty, like, 80% of the time. I sorta liked her with Dale.

LOOOOVED Dale this episode. He really needs to remain a big part of this show.

I also liked Casey's quote about "Did they announce a new season of America's Next Top Model?" when Casey heard all the cheering downstairs when Ashley walked in to tell ask her if she really did talk to Dino.

Evan is the president. Dino was the social chair, which was why Casey was going to talk to him in the first place. He's the one who'd be in charge of setting up a mixer with any of the sororities.

but didn't ashley said that kyle, the social chair, sent over the mixer invite?

The way it seems to me is that the "Presidents" aren't really active in the frats the way they are in ZBZ. Because I'm also pretty sure Joe is the "President" of KT even if Cappie is the one doing everything. Same with OX and Dino/Evan.
