'The Biggest Loser': Girls rule! Boys drool!
Finally! The Biggest Loser's Boys in Blue finally had to face an elimination, after weeks of picking off what remained of Team Black. I'll admit to cackling evilly when it became clear that they'd have to vote off one of their "brothers." The "Pride on three!" pride dwindles! Hooray!
As a prize, you win this delicious spoiler!
Pop quiz, hotshot! Alison calls the remaining competitors into the elimination room for a quick test of knowledge. The first question is a piece of cake -- they all know 3,500 calories burned equals one pound. Then they get a tricky question -- one that's about someone else. How much weight did Curtis lose when he came back? Mark interviews that he just cares about his own weight loss, not anyone else's. That's the spirit! Dan, Jay and Roger get it right (100 pounds), so they go onto the next round -- how many calories are in a cup of fat-free strawberry yogurt? This is actually a tricky one, because a lot of single-serving containers of yogurt are 100 calories -- but they're also only 6 ounces. Dan is closest, guessing 100 calories, while Jay and Roger grossly underestimate -- 60 calories? I wish! Try 200 calories.
Dan, of course, takes the opportunity to sing his own praises. "I won the quiz! I now in fact [have] been proven the smartest person in the house!" Um, no.. you were just slightly less wrong than your compatriots. Dork. Therefore, I get a little thrill when his prize is... a huge slice f chocolate cake. "Thank you?" he says.
Alison tells Dan he can eat the cake, but she'd recommend he bring it, intact, to the challenge. Thus begins The Tale of the Cake, for Dan starts carrying it with him everywhere. He brings it to workouts. He walks it around the kitchen, He puts it on the treadmill next to him. He treats it as a pet. He swears he will never let it leave his side.
So of course, the moment Dan lets his guard down, the cake goes missing. Dan finds a ransom note in his room, ostensibly signed by Kelly. Kelly denies all knowledge, but thinks it's hysterical. As Dan continues his increasingly pissy search for the cake, everyone starts having fun with him. Where's the last place you'd ever look for anything, Dan? How about the dishwasher? The cleaning supplies? Maybe the laundry room? He finds it, intact, in the laundry room, and Roger admits to being the cake thief. It's funny, but I think it's a bit mean-spirited of Roger to cast suspicion on Kelly. Why do that?
The Challenge
The competitors are taken to an area, where all sorts of tasty treats (pizza, fries, ice cream, cotton candy, etc.) are available for the taking. They can run to a station, grab one item of food, and place it on someone else's table. The person with the fewest calories on their table at the end wins $10,000.
This is where Dan's cake comes in handy -- he can immediately put 600 calories on someone's table. He chooses Kelly, which... why? Roger took the cake. You could easily pay him back for that now. Harrumph.
The Men in Blue decide to gang up on the women, and load their tables with calories. They don't put a single item on another Blue Boy's table. Kelly and Ali have 10,000 more calories on their tables than any of the guys do. Ali finally gets the message that the Men in blue are not her friends.
Jay narrowly beats Roger for the prize -- $10,000, or a 1-pound pass. He's got until the weigh-in to decide whether to take the money or the pass.
The Weigh-In
Ali and Kelly bond over how schmucklike the Boys in Blue are, and vow to do everything in their power to stay above the yellow line. Fortunately, the Boys in Blue may have helped them a bit -- they all snacked on junk food as they loaded up the girls' tables during the challenge. Plus, Jillian's been working the women hard, and it shows.
The men weigh in first. Jay and Roger put up respectable but not spectacular numbers, and Jay's 1-pound pass pushes him ahead of Roger. Then Dan gets on the scale, and he's in for a shock -- he's down 1 pound, of 0.5% of his body weight. He freaks. Mark also has a less-than stellar week, losing 4 pounds, or 2.16%.
It comes down to the women -- and they knock it out of the park. Ali is down 6 pounds, of a weight loss percentage of 3.87%. Wow. What's more, she's lost 85 pounds -- the most any woman has ever lost on campus. Kelly is last, and you can tell the guys are praying she'll have a bad week, but no such luck -- she's down 7 pounds, for 3.52%. Ali and Kelly take the first and second spots in weight loss this week. Whoo-hoo!
At the elimination, everyone votes for Dan -- they don't even get to Jay, who announced at the outset that he wouldn't vote for his brother. Dan heads back home, then moves to LA to pursue his music career. He's done a great job, and I congratulate him, but I'm seriously glad I'm not going to have to listen to him any more.
Highlights, thoughts and odds and ends:
- Dan is in shock with his 1-pound loss: "I'm speechless, I have nothing to say. And that doesn't happen too often." Trust me, Dan -- it almost never happens. I revel in the silence.
- Of course, moments later he's flapping his gums again -- he's convinced Kelly's going to screw up, and that "my boys will save me, business will go on as usual." Not this time, Blue Boy.
- I kind of adored Ali's reaction when Kelly's number came up -- "That's what happens when you get girls mad." Hee!
- Roger is rapidly wearing on my last nerve -- when Ali points out that the whole boys vs. girls thing at the tables was an eye-opening experience, Roger interviews "Wah wah wah -- we didn't make the game!" Yeah, put you chose to pile on, which was hardly gracious.
- Dan obviously thinks he's being stealthy when he urges Jay to take the money, not the pass, but he's laughably transparent.
- Dan, on his music career: "I did not want to be that big guy with the great voice." Well, you're not that big guy... but I haven't seen that much evidence of the great voice, either.
Now that Dan is off, the show can go to 1 hour long without all that "Dan Speak".

BMB | Mar 26, 2008 6:02:19 AM | #At first I really liked Dan, but now I'm glad he is gone. Dan and Roger have gotten so cocky, and the guy's were acting like a bunch of dumb jocks during the competition. I'm glad Dan's out. This whole Blue Team thing is just playing into Roger's hands. Dan's loyalty backfired on him. Why didn't he broker a deal to get Jay out last week? I hope the girls keep kicking butt, or it will be Roger's money to lose.
Tigre | Mar 26, 2008 6:20:39 AM | #I haven't been this excited to see someone go since Neal last year. I'm so glad the girls beat the guys butts. It looks like next week Mark is going to have another cry fest. Does anyone else think Mark is looking kind of bad in the face? He seems to have alot of lines showing up and it doesn't look too good. Also, Dan is in for a rude awakening in LA. He doesn't sing good at all. I wonder where he has heard he sounds good - Probably from Mom.
Margie | Mar 26, 2008 6:41:57 AM | #I agree with Tigre... at first I liked Dan and was rooting for him, but I was so glad for the girls last night! Buh-bye Dan! And, watching the preview for next week, looks like the cry-baby brothers are back (Jay & Mark crying - AGAIN!)...
jwintx | Mar 26, 2008 6:54:30 AM | #I've never commented on one of these things, but I HAVE to now that I've found this site. My brother-in-law thinks the show should be called "Biggest Lover" with all the hugging and crying going on with the Blue Team. Man up, guys! And my husband has changed the "chant" which I think is way more appropriate: CRY ON 3!!! CRY ON 3: 1...2...3... CRY!!! What a bunch of babies.
BY | Mar 26, 2008 10:33:21 AM | #cry on three...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
i want the t-shirt!!!
bottomlesswells | Mar 26, 2008 11:01:40 AM | #WAY TO GO ALI AND KELLY!! The Blue Boys looked like sharks waiting for Kelly to put a low number on the scale and then BAM! she rocked their world! Good for you. It's about time someone shook up those arrogant boys (not Jay so much).
Ree | Mar 26, 2008 12:02:03 PM | #I'm alittle upset about something. Does anyone else agree with me that Ali should not be getting aculades(sp) for losing the most weight for a women ON CAMPUS. Wasn't she voted off on like week 3or 4 and came back in week 11. How does that count as being on campus. Still dont get me wrong Kudos to Ali for the weight loss.
As far as Dan goes, whoo hoo just doesnt seem exciting enough for what I am feeling about his going home. The boy think hes Gods gift but hes more like the devils plaything I can beleive the ego. Roger on the other hand hasnt matured since high school and is going to be so embarrassed when he sees this show. I'm sure his family and friends are disapointed in his behaviour. The only decent guy there is Jay and only when his brother isnt around to goad him.
darrpub | Mar 26, 2008 12:22:19 PM | #I'm not going to miss Dan, his ego was growing while his body was shrinking. Still, good luck in Los Angeles.
Roger remains the biggest threat and if he falls below the yellow line look for the brother team to turn on him.
I don't recall Roger ever being close to the yellow line. I think he has enough weight to lose to keep decent numbers. I am happy for the ladies. It's so good to see Kelly smiling and confident. That's the whole reason for watching this show.
BMB | Mar 26, 2008 12:43:50 PM | #Great job Kelly. I just don't think you can pull it off two weeks in a row. I see Kelly and Jay below the line next week with Kelly getting voted off. Final Four: Roger, Mark, Jay, Ali. Roger winning it all.
Paul | Mar 26, 2008 12:49:03 PM | #I was really happy with the outcome last night. The guys have been looking like jerks with their big egos, especially how much Rodger and Dan's have grown over time (they use to be so nice and cool and I cheered for them). Now I don't like them. Its strange because this show should be so uplifting and everyone should be happy for everyone, but its hard to cheer and want the guys to lose weight if their being jerks. Kelly and Ali good job!
Craig | Mar 26, 2008 1:00:04 PM | #Here's hoping that either Ali & Kelly win the whole thing! I am so sick of all of the boys (especially Dan & Roger) I could just scream!
Shannon | Mar 26, 2008 1:05:00 PM | #Was this the first weigh-in without the trainers? They never added anything so I guess they aren't missed when they are not there.
BMB | Mar 26, 2008 1:11:41 PM | #darrpub,
IMO, Ali actually deserves more kudos because she lost the majority of that weight ON HER OWN away from campus. Technically, yes, they're statement was incorrect since most of it wasn't lost on campus, but nonetheless she still deserves the kudos, especially (as I already said) since she lost it on her own without the help of a trainer or anything ... that's quite an accomplishment!
Shannon | Mar 26, 2008 1:17:47 PM | #while i, too, paused at the statement that ali has lost the most weight "on campus" than any other woman, i don't think it is a wrong statement. i think it was just phrased awkwardly. i think the point they were trying to make is that from the first episode through, the episode when the final four contestants return to their homes (let's say, these episodes occur 6 months apart), she has lost the most weight of any woman within those six months. the term "on campus" is only used to reference the span of time. (plus the women voted "off campus" were not monitored, so it is possible they lost more weight in that time period.)
Jim | Mar 26, 2008 1:30:26 PM | #FINALLY! Will they even bother to show the last few episodes since they lost their narrator?
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Dan's shocked silence. You could actually see the realization that he would be going home hit him at the weigh in.
Then his cocky a$$ was singing a different tune when he had to say goodbye (and his I Love You's, blech). They were tears of joy: he was crying and I was joyous!
His weepy departure turned me into a jubilant Eric Cartman: "mmm, Dan's tears! So yummy! Yessss, Dan's tears!"
Way to go girls!
Chris in TX | Mar 26, 2008 2:40:07 PM | #missed it last night. so glad you have this thread so i know what happened. brittney warned dan the week before, so it is not as if he was not told. i am glad for all of them for the weight loss, and i truly hope they can maintain it. as far as emotion goes, when the food is no longer there to medicate feelings, emotions get very raw. difficulty with emotions is a big reason why anyone would have the burden of extra weight in the first place. losing the weight in such a public manner without some psych support strips people down to their most human. it makes for riveting tv, but they show what anyone faces when losing a lot of weight fast- great vulnerability. part of the problem is standing on ground that can be pulled out from under a person at any time, as the rules shift and change weekly with the psychotic planners of this game. the atmosphere of distrust starts on day one, and i have never seen anything meaner on this game than all the teams against kelly and paul. that was the tipoff for how this season was going to go, the deep challenge of unfairness. and it seems to me that jillian has expressed her feelings of unfairness in several episodes, as women tend to lose slower than men and she had a team of women. perhaps that is why jillian and bob were downplayed this week. perhaps they felt that showing jillian's reactions were turning viewers off. they will do anything to these people for the ratings.
kat in az | Mar 26, 2008 3:36:23 PM | #I really liked this week's outcome, though the whole episode I wondered about Ali.
I was upset with Ali last week for siding with the boys and voting against Brittany, but she was woken up this week.
I liked Dan in the beginning, but he and especially Roger, got very cocky.
Last night was the FIRST night in a long night that I was upset to see Mark in the bottom --- I wanted precious Roger there.
And yes, Dan cannot sing.
Chris | Mar 26, 2008 4:26:34 PM | #I also wish the challenges were more even, like Survivor. Two of those boys should have sat out to make it fair. Oh well, it's good entertainment for 2 hours on a Tuesday.
Chris | Mar 26, 2008 4:27:54 PM | #Don't be surprised if Kelly makes to the final 3. She has always managed to lose the weight she needs to survive, yet everyone in the house constantly underestimates her. Mark is already at his goal, Jay and Ali are pretty close, they wont be putting up huge numbers anymore. Blue team crybabies are definitely going down the tubes
missern | Mar 26, 2008 6:13:52 PM | #I must appologize. I did not mean it to seem that Ali didnt deserve kudos.(I believe my last line of that paragraph said so) I just felt the statement was incorrect and that the title belongs to Kelly as she has been on campus from the beginning. I think Ali has done a terrific job and am proud of her even though I dont know her.
darrpub | Mar 26, 2008 6:51:03 PM | #Our tv stations transmitter was on the blink last night. I have enjoyed reading about the show. Thanks.
Janey Tippett | Mar 26, 2008 8:25:14 PM | #Am I the only one who cringed every time Allison said "under the tray" as opposed to "on the tray" or "under the cover" ?
anon. | Mar 27, 2008 6:57:33 AM | #I guess I'm the only one here that likes roger. Good or bad Roger is in a team mentality and wants his team to do well. I don't think he is being cocky, they have just been a strong team and why not show it?! Also your only seeing two hours of spliced together footage of a week. So we don't know how everyone really is. And also, if you watch closey roger is the one that the girls always hug, so I guess they don't think he is and ogre!
caseywirth | Mar 27, 2008 8:52:28 AM | #Tell me...this doesn't look like Dan:
http://toughpigs.com/uploaded_images/junior-gorg-768169.jpg
Chris | Mar 27, 2008 9:10:45 AM | #I liked the Blue Team's (yes, they are still a team) approach to the challenge. It may have seemed like beating up on the girls. They decided that one of their team will win but they will not bicker umongst themselves as to who. They accomplished their mission as any strong team would. Not too surprising that Jay won. He seems to be the most likeable out of the bunch. As the field narrowed down, it was only a matter of time they would be picked off. But their strong team support got them this far. What one may call "cockiness" another may view as dedication and support to a common cause. Roger wins it all.
Moose | Mar 27, 2008 1:19:36 PM | #Count me as one of the ones so very happy to see Dan off this show. He'd gotten more insufferable as the weeks went by. I do understand that he is young and had always been with his family before his mom got voted off, but he was just too much to bear.
His loss of just 1 pound was fitting seeing how much of the concession stand food he stuffed in his face as the contest was going on. That indicates more than anything about how poorly he is going to do long-term. I did think it was interesting that Bob wasn't told (at least not on-camera) about all the munching that was taking place. Jillian certainly wasn't thrilled to hear about it, even though her girls weren't the ones partaking.
Ali and Kelly did great - good for them. Kelly has been struggling for several weeks so it was wonderful seeing her come in second this time.
Melody | Mar 27, 2008 10:22:16 PM | #Why is it called biggest loser "couples"! I think it is dumb that the show is not even based on that any more. If one goes out the other teamate should go out or the writers could have thought of something more creative then to just switch it back to singles!/crying brothers!
| Mar 28, 2008 11:19:20 PM | #"Prod on three, Prod on three" Enough of these big CRY BABIES already." BOO HOO, I love ya man! " And that tat segment...yeah, hot...a bunch of crybabies getting a tat for the "Prod on three brotherhood"....sorry, freakin lame. And the product placements. TOO MUCH. Last episode was like an hour long infomercial...with some crying from the BIG GIRLS on the Blue team and a weigh in. With all the product placement...why is the prize a wimpy $250K. You think they could pop for a cool Million. Or, maybe they should pay the viewers for sitting through the Brita or gum ads. This is probably my last viewing season.
Bud | Mar 29, 2008 6:33:59 AM | #I too was expecting something a little different with the "couples" approach. I thought that would neutralize the "male advantage" to weight loss. It didn't seem long before the couples were disbanded. I'm curioius to see if the next season is done any differently.
BMB | Mar 31, 2008 5:51:25 AM | #I agree with Bud about the product placements. Enough already! It is like one big infomercial. Thank god for TiVo! My husband and I TiVo this show and just fast forward through all the extras. It only takes about 45 minutes to watch a 2 hour episode.
LostFanatic | Mar 31, 2008 11:01:57 AM | #Wow I hated Dan and his mother since the day they got on the show. Roger, too. I miss BERNIE!!
