'Lipstick Jungle': Breaking all the rules

Lindsayprice8_lipstickjungle_s1_240 In comparison to some of the over the top antics that have defined the last few episodes of Lipstick Jungle, this week's installment was fairly tame. Aside from a minor catfight at a charity function, in fact, the ladies were almost in control! Well, except for the raging jealousy. And the lying to their husbands. And the aforementioned public fight that ended up splashed across Page Six. OK...so perhaps our protagonists weren't quite as in control as I originally thought. I apologize.

Fashion forward spoilers below.

The episode begins at some sort of modern jazz club, where the gang has gathered to watch Shane's old band play. Apparently he was quite the musician in his day and was a great composer to boot. The band calls him up on stage and he completely owns it, causing Wendy to get quite...um...frisky with him in the green room after the show. Her exuberance over her husband's musical resurgence and the delicious bedroom delights it brings carries over to her job, where she decides to secretly submit his demo tape to the director of Parador's new film in hopes he might get the composer's gig. When Shane finds out what she did he is furious until he learns she submitted him under an alias and he will not get the job simply because of her. This is Wendy's plan until she runs into the director and lets it slip that Shane is her husband. The director implies he has to hire Shane now, which Wendy refutes to no avail. Shane gets the gig still thinking he did it solely on his own, much to Wendy's chagrin. Shane's inferiority complex when it comes to Wendy is a bit rote, and I do hope this information doesn't end up coming out as I might just die under the weight of such a heavy cliche.

As for Nico, her husband is out of town (on business, but we'll see about that) and she takes the opportunity of his absence to have lots and lots of sex with Kirby. Concerned their affair will get out of hand, Nico sets down ground rules for their relationship which Kirby cutely writes on a chalkboard on his living room wall. Hopefully he doesn't have other ladies over very often, because that could be awkward. ("No, these are the rules I have with all girls! Wait, where are you going?") Once Nico establishes the rules, however, she starts breaking them left and right. Wendy gets Kirby a job as the set photographer on Parador's new film and Nico conveniently stops by the set just in time to see the lead actress shamelessly flirt with Kirby. Instead of admitting she's jealous, Nico pushes Kirby to go out with the actress and then totally freaks out about it when they actually do go out. In the end, Nico admits there is more to their relationship than sex and a montage of strangely shot sex scenes shows the "emotion" on her face while they make love. That or she just ate some really bad Chinese food. It's hard to tell.

Finally, we have Victory. It seems the sketches Reese stole so many moons ago have finally made it into stores as full-fledged stolen clothing, and when Victory sees them she rightly freaks out. Joe urges her to consider the fact that one of her old employees might have stolen them, an idea she rejects until she calls Reese and Reese admits she took the drawings. That's all she will admit to, however, saying she just used them in her portfolio and the designer copied them on his own. Victory knows Reese is completely full of it and decides to out her and the designer at Nico's upcoming charity event. Victory obviously learned from The O.C. that the best place to air any sort of public grievance is at a charity event. Ryan Atwood taught her well. At the event, she confronts Reese and they get into a bit of a scuffle, which ends up in the gossip pages the next day even though the fight was pretty weak. I mean, no hair was even pulled. No one ended up in a pool or anything, although the ice trough was a nice touch. That's how they do it in the NYC, I guess. Victory is feeling down in the dumps until a venture capitalist investor (with a girlfriend who's mad about Victory's clothes) shows up and offers to financially back her. I'm sure that will go smoothly! Venture capitalists on TV are never shady.

What did you guys think? Is Nico getting in over her head with Kirby? Will Shane do a good job on his composer gig, or will he crash and burn and find out he got the job because of Wendy? And how amazing was Nico's shoe collection, by the way? Yowza.

Is it bugging anyone else that Andrew MaCarthy's take on a billionnaire seems to be channelling Carey Grant? I have to ask why? I know Andrew lived in Europe for a bit but my recollection was that he lived in France not the UK - his accent's worse than Britteny Spears'!!

Nico is such an unlikeable character it's not even funny. Completely unlikeable. And the sad part is they hinted that her husband was mesign around as if that makes what she is doing a-ok. All it does is make her just as scummy as him. I mean being a sexual harrasment person is a-ok if you are a woman in this show. Lie, cheat and sexually harass to your hearts content, which I can only conclude the writers think makes you a strong woman in this show.

I REALLY hope that Wendy REALLY stands up to her like the previews show. Sadly with the writing for this show I am sure she'll fold like a cheap suit and enable her friend.

I love the reality of this show. Nico is fabulous. Honestly, I hardly think her husband is a victim. Of course we are to continue to feel that cheating and lying is wrong. But we are humans and humans are far from perfect. If Nico was faithful to her neglecting husband she wouldn't be seen as strong. She would be a victim. And what has bitching to a man about their neglect ever done. She is strong. She is getting what she wants and from a very sexy younger man.

I started disliking Nico when she got Kirby fired and was so cold about it. I'm not certain I'll ever be able to change the way I feel about her - she seems really selfish and cold. So far she has no redeeming qualities for me.

And what was with Victory wearing the blanket and entertaining at the same time? I know they do things differently in NYC, but come ON!
