'L Word': The heat is on
It's hot, hot, hot in Los Angeles as Jenny continues with "Lez Girls" and The L Word steams up with "Liquid Heat."
Interesting scene with Joyce and Phyllis. It looked like it was taken right out of a Tennessee Williams play. "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" anyone?
Spoiler alert now on.
Nikki is more confused about her sexual identity than Jenny ever was. When Nikki admits to sleeping with "Tim,"Jenny dumps the boy. This meets with protest from Tina and others, but of course Adele is there to really take charge of the situation. (Who is she?)
The love letter mix up that ended up with Nikki actually kissing Adele, well, I just didn't see that coming. But when it did, I thought Adele would take more advantage of the situation.
Why do both Tina and Bette keep having to say their relationship is over when it is pretty clear it is not. They both decided to go into therapy together. It was more of a step to get back together than break up. Right? They were able to deeply discuss each other's good and bad points during their elevator therapy session. Is it just Bette that wants to be home?
Nice lesbian mafia meeting with the SheBar gang, but how incredibly ridiculous as part of the story line. Bette is the negotiator? Of course Dawn Denbo (double D as Shane calls her) has a brother Joey who can take care of things if negotiations don't go her way. Whatever!
What a blatant slam against transgenders as the only time Max gets on in a number of weeks and his apology from Alice is completely disregarded. (At least he got a few other lines and scenes by being able to accept a date.) Is the T word an L word?
Finally, as Shane's girl crush turns into something more, all I could think was that Shane is going to get hurt by this one. It's an odd thought when so many of her relationships are such meaningless sex. Just when you think how funny it is that Phyllis walks in, she and Molly argue and you realize Shane is going to be hurt. Zing!

Whats up with Max and the interpreter?? Does he knows Max is a girl?
Max isn't a 'girl' - he's a transman, and I think one of the others mentioned it to the interpreter earlier on in the season.
Yes, Tom the interpreter does know Max is a trans-man. I wasn't a fan of that romance. I admit to being a bit confused by the transgender issue. Is Max a gay man, a straight man or a lesbian? It's unclear if he's into boys or girls now.
As for the episode, some great Tina/Bette stuff, although I'm a bit worried that Tina didn't seem that committed to the relationship when she was asking out that Sam girl. Maybe things are a bit clearer after the elevator chat and shag!
Jenny and Shane have trouble ahead with their girls I think. Nikki is a child and Adele is a shark. Molly is funny, but not really a long term relationship for Shane. Hearing her talk to her mother about how Shane isn't that bright should turn Shane off.
The Shebar face off was a bit daft. Dawn Denbo is a good comedy villain I suppose.
Good episode.
favorite line from this episode was completely lost in the shuffle -- when the lights come on after the mafia meeting, alice utters: wow, did you get this furniture in the 80s?
don't know what's up with max. that relationship baffles me completely. it didn't seem that there was enough chemistry with tom.
and tom whips out the condom? no dental dams were ever used by shane. is safe sex only for the men?
It cracks me up every time Dawn Denbo (or Double D) refers to either her "girlfriend Cindy" or her "lover Cindy" - and I absolutely loved the dry sarcasm in Bette's voice when she said that Dawn's "lover Cindy" could have a bit part in Jenny's movie - it's all in the delivery and Bette has got it down pat!
But how blind is Dawn not to see what a piece of work Cindy really is? She would have been all over Tasha right there at the table if she could have, and she's a blithering idiot every time she sees Shane...wake up and smell that SheBar coffee, Double D - your lover is steppin' out on you!
As someone mentioned last week about how they enjoyed seeing Shane interact with different characters (Jodi and then Molly) it was nice to see her and Jenny just hanging around during the blackout...it's a reminder of what good friends they are - and yes, the love-machine that is Shane can just be friends with other females - how 'bout that?
Hope they have Dana flashbacks on next week's ep - it's the bike ride for breast cancer.
Best, fun show on TV...Love it!!

Transmen can be into men, they can be into women, they can be into whomever they want! While I was sort of surprised by Max's sudden interest in a man, it's not all that wacky of a situation. He's already outside the gender binary, why must we pigeonhole his sexuality?
Aaaaanyway. I was super surprised to discover that I'm actually starting to like Jenny... she's turned into something approaching human!
