'American Idol' Cuts to Nine

By Daniel Fienberg

March 26, 07:19 PM

Kristyleecook_americanidol7_top12paFor this first time this season, the occasionally reliable, semi-scientific prognosticators at DialIdol are reporting that a singer other than Presumptive American Idol Winner David Archuleta got the most votes. That suggests that as Wednesday's (March 26) American Idol results show begins, it's anybody's game. Well, anybody except for the person eliminated Wednesday...p>

8:58 p.m. ET. It's another early start for American Idol, though I correctly timed my arrival so as to miss almost all of Moment of Truth. Right away, I feel much cleaner.

8:59 p.m. Over 30 million votes were cast, which Ryan calls the most this season. Then he ruins my evening. No, I'm not sad about Kimberley Locke's performance. But I don't know if I can deal with the prospect of another call-in segment.

9:00 p.m. Is that Pizza Boy David Hernandez sitting behind Simon?

9:00 p.m. My indecent proposal: How about asking Josiah Lemming to write this season's Idol coronation? I bet he'd come with something crazy.

9:01 p.m. Last night's theme of Songs From The Year They Were Born could have made for a cacophonous Group Sing, so the producers wisely choose a single song that sort of articulates that theme, "Right Back Where We Started From." It's simple, offers no opportunities for harmony and therefore doesn't suck.

9:02 p.m. In fact, I may start liking the Group Sings, as they'll be the only opportunity we have to make fun of Brooke White's dancing. My attempts to giggle at the lack of rhythm on Brooke's part are thwarted by the image of Jason Castro's spinning, arm-waving, drunken dervish-like lack of awareness of his own surroundings.

9:07 p.m. Last week we got a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a Ford commercial. Tonight we see a behind-the-scenes commercial for the contestants' iTunes singles. Are they being paid 10,000 votes for each time they mention iTunes or their iPods? Carly Smithson's closing giddiness at seeing herself on an iPhone is particularly galling.

9:10 p.m. Ah last night. Good times. After seeing Presumptive American Idol Winner David [Cook]'s success with moody covers like "Hello" and last night's "Billie Jean," my former college roommate Andrew has a great suggestion: David's rivals should retaliate by doing poppy, peppy, upbeat covers of emo/goth/grunge songs. Think Britney Spears' "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or Justin Timberlake's "Hurt."

9:13 p.m. It seems early, but we're already pulling people to the Safety Couch and the Terror Stools. Up first is Chikezie, who may not have done himself a favor by dipping into ballad territory last night. He's quickly sent off to the Bottom Three. Brooke will let America stay up past its bedtime and eat cookies in bed, because America's Nanny is through. Carly isn't pregnant (all radio and online rumors aside), but she will get to examine herself on her iPhone for at least a week to come, as she jumps into Brooke's arms.

9:22 p.m. T-shirts, CDs, posters come to life with the image of our American Idol hopefuls in this week's Ford commercial, set to the tune of "I Want You to Want Me." How long before they find a way to work an iPhone into the Ford commercials? After all, we know the new Focus plays MP3s.

Syeshamercado_americanidol7_top12pa9:23 p.m. Who will be next in the Bottom Three? It sure won't be Presumptive American Idol Winner David [Archuleta], even though he's working on three lackluster performances in a row. I noticed a lot of random indignation in the blogosphere that David "The Leader" Cook got credit for Chris Cornell's cover of "Billie Jean," even though Ryan took great pains to mention the Soundgarden frontman before Tuesday's performance. He does it again on Wednesday -- Cornell approves -- before sending David to smugly deserved safety. Syesha Mercado, though, is sent to the Bottom Three. After a Queen-fueled bounce-back week, Michael Johns is safe.

9:29 p.m. Why are Constantine Maroulis and Gina Glocksen everywhere together? [I'm told they host American Idol Extra. I guess that makes sense, then.]

9:30 p.m. For the call-in question segment they're nice or cruel enough to move Chikezie and Syesha over to the Safety Couch for a different kind of torture. Chikezie gets the first question and says he's single. Then David Archuleta gets to protest that his controlling stage dad didn't pick his song from last night, as Simon strongly implied. Simon puffs out his cheeks wondering why Archuleta has gotten two different chances to make this statement of independence on this show.

9:31 p.m. "The good news is you don't need a lot of talent... so there's a chance for everyone," is Simon's reply to a question about what a 16-year-old girl would have to do to take Ryan's job. Yawn.

9:33 p.m. Never again. Please?

9:34 p.m. If Kimberley Locke had appeared on a different Idol season, I wonder if she would have won. Last season, for example. The weight-losing restaurateur has actually managed to release two solo albums that are available at real world record stores near you (as opposed to via indie online download). Her new single is less interesting to me than the end of the Celtics game, though. It's no "Eighth World Wonder." If you like her dress and want to do something for charity, it'll be up for auction later tonight.

9:44 p.m. Don't worry jingoistic viewers. Idol Gives Back didn't just give back to Africa last year. Americans benefited as well.

Jasoncastro_americanidol7_top12part9:47 p.m. So who's going to fill The Kristy Lee Cook Bottom Three Stool? Ramiele Malubay, last night's worst, looks a bit dazed and then relieved when she discovers that she's in the Top Nine. Really, America? Not even the Bottom Three? I don't want to start resenting Ramiele, but she's pulled ahead in the race to be this year's Sanjaya.

9:48 p.m. That leaves Clifford the Muppet and Kristy. The strategy of whipping out "God Bless the USA" after a long string of Bottom Three performances worked its pandering magic. The Kristy Lee Cook Bottom Three Stool is actually filled by Jason. His puppeteer is confused.

9:49 p.m. Paula can't bring herself to criticize the Bottom Three. I can. Syesha should be safe and Ramiele should be in the Bottom Three. The Muppet thinks his being in the Bottom Three was supposed to be a shocker, but he doesn't have to wait long before going to the couch.

9:54 p.m. Simon tells Chikezie that he's in trouble because he chose the wrong song. Paula, though, says that Syesha sang the right song and Randy misuses the word "brilliant" about her performance.

Chikezie_americanidol7_top12party089:55 p.m. Syesha is safe. Chikezie's going home. To my mind, David Cook's "Billie Jean" and Chikezie's "She's a Woman" have been the season's two best performances to date. I'm not surprised that he's done, but he had a vocal presence and performance quality that were unique among this season's contestants and I'd have preferred to see him stick around for another few weeks.

Agree? Disagree? You gonna miss Chikezie?

And, as always, check out Zap2it's Guide to American Idol.

I think Ramiele is like season 3's Jasmine Trias...she might make it to top 3 =O

Kristy is more like Sanjaya

Hyvent | Mar 26, 2008 7:48:13 PM | #

Ok, I was surprised. I thought Rami would be in the bottom 3, or Carly. The first thing I thought of when Chik walked out was "who stabbed him in the shoulder!". My other thought was "Paula is going to the Prom after this!" and man, was she wearing the BLING! I thought Kristy was beautiful as usual. She needs to stay in cause she's the only county one they've got. Otherwise Im happy with the outcome. Chik didnt do much for me, even though I thought he was good.

SIS | Mar 26, 2008 7:53:47 PM | #

What a load of pooey! I don't know what I hated worse: the nausea inducing KLC pulling out God Bless the USA or that not even Simon had the guts to call her on it. This show has officially jumped the shark. Audience out.

tv | Mar 26, 2008 8:04:57 PM | #

There is one simple thing that every single person here keeps forgetting about ramielle- she is the first contestant with a Philipino background EVER in the history of American Idol!! This girl has a huge following- Im from Canada and this girl keeps being talked about just because she is representing Asia like no other contestant has ever done!! Shes going to be in this competition for a while folks- get used to it

David | Mar 26, 2008 8:16:56 PM | #

I agree with David: Ramielle is totally rallying the Asian vote. It's time for her to step it up, though, if she doesn't want to overstay her welcome. I'm still mad at her for butchering "In My Life." I want her to prove me wrong, but she's pretty much been awful in the top 12.

Btw, I'm still throwing up over Kristy Lee's cheese-fest last night. Maybe it will go away.

Catherine | Mar 26, 2008 8:33:58 PM | #

I guess Rami's popularity is bigger than I thought. I had it down to Carly and Chikezie going home, so I'm not surprised that when Carly was safe that Chikezie was the one sent packing.

I guess I put too much stock in Carly being in the bottom 3 the previous week in how I put together the bottom 3. I guess I also put a bit too much stock in Jason's popularity.

I'm guessing there is a lot of crossover voting and some weeks one spot is being just thrown out there. i.e. Carly was in danger last week so those with her in a crossover spent more time voting for her rather than whomever they had paired her with eg. Jason. Well, that may just be some ramblings to validate my reasoning from last night - yeah, that's it.

Rishi | Mar 26, 2008 8:54:12 PM | #

David, Jasmine Trias (from S3 of AI) is also Philipino.

Rishi | Mar 26, 2008 8:55:34 PM | #

Hello, your friends at 19 Management here, the company that owns and operates these people and this show? Yeah, Hi. Look, I don't know if you heard or not, but we kind of run this thing, and if we want to put Kristy Lee Cook into the next-to-pimp hole with a country anthem that she can't butcher, maybe it's because we have a deal cut with Dolly Parton to be here next week, and she's our best shot at getting a recording deal from Nashville. And although you humps may not like it, we've placed a lot of our mediocre alumni with Nashville, and the one giant mega-talent we gave them has sold more records than any of the other Idol winners. So, you'll forgive us if we make it easy to slide a couple weeks - we promise she won't win, but we really need her to get that Nashville record deal, and if we have to chump Chikeze, Ramiele and maybe even Jason, we will. Thanks for watching, and please go to I-Tunes, download our music, put it in your Ford, drink a Coke and we'll see you next week, mmmkay?

Your Friends at 19 | Mar 26, 2008 9:23:56 PM | #

Look people, calm down. Chekezie was never going to win this thing. He'll still be on the tour.

Alex | Mar 26, 2008 9:39:29 PM | #

Ramiele is getting the Asian vote? I really don't think so. She might be getting a bunch of Filipino votes, because I know that other Asians would vote for the other performers.

But let's face it, folks, this year's AI looks like it's going to be a snooze fest till the top three. Here's hoping they'll improve their performances in the coming weeks. Because I'd rather be watching some other show than these lackluster performances.

Steph | Mar 26, 2008 10:49:30 PM | #

This season is getting on my nerves more and more as the weeks go by.

Chikezie, one of the more interesting people leaves, while Ramielle and Kristy are boring me to death get to stay week after week for doing nothing.

This season is doing nothing for me at all. Dancing with the Stars is more interesting and a hell of a lot more entertaining than this show. I'm so bored out of my mind most of the time. Can we just give the prize to David Cook and end this show right now.

Nina | Mar 26, 2008 11:56:38 PM | #

I'm just glad that Chikezie will be going on the tour. American Idol has proven numerous times that you don't need to win or even be in the top five to end up with a solid career, so good luck to him and all the other Idols this season.

cm | Mar 27, 2008 1:09:12 AM | #

Kristy is pathetic. The only one who irritates me more than Kristy is Brook. I keep asking people I know if they think this is the worst season of Idol ever (which is my opinion). None of them agree with me. They say the singers are better. I can't understand that. David is the only good singer this season in my opinion.

kb | Mar 27, 2008 1:32:07 AM | #

You know what now that you mention it I can't even think of many successful Asian performers in the history of Rock.

The only one I can think of is James Iha the guitar player for the Smashing Pumpkins. I can't think of any Asian singers that have been succesful.

Jason S. | Mar 27, 2008 4:50:09 AM | #

I actually turned off the show after Carly was safe. And what was that nonsence about 'spanx' is she completely of the chart. First she talks about having to go to the bathroom before her performance, now she's talking about her undergarments. Is she not taking her medication? Also, I thought she was pregnant coz she has gained quite a bit of weight since her audition. I dont think spanx is going to do it for you girl, try the treadmill.

Brook looked beautiful as always, and I was happy that she was safe. A little disappointed that Chikizee is gone, he was fun and had a personality, not like BORING jason, with the smelly hair

bea | Mar 27, 2008 5:15:07 AM | #

Kristy did a great job with that song and she was smart to do it. Don't be hating because she CAN sing, is beautiful and smart.

I do agree, ramiele should of gone. Maybe she is this years mowhawk boy.

Chikezie may not have made the finals but it would have been fun to watch him perform.

Hopefully Brooke, Carly or Jason will go next.

It will be interesting hearing Jason Cook sing with Dolly P. as a mentor.

| Mar 27, 2008 5:24:17 AM | #

There was also that Asian guy from a past season who always sang barefoot. I use "always" advisedly because he got voted off almost immediately, after Simon correctly pointed out that the bare feet gimmick was too obviously gimmicky.

Is voting FOR someone based on their race better than NOT voting for someone based on their race?

Nonnie Muss | Mar 27, 2008 5:25:32 AM | #

19, thanks for the reminder; going to check iTunes right now! Actually, I do like the iTunes option because you get to hear a full version of the songs. Sometimes something you like at a minute and a half doesn't sound so good at three and a half. Since I base my support on "who would I actually BUY music from" it allows me to really test that. My favorites - David C and Brooke. I've bought and enjoyed most of their performances.

wendy | Mar 27, 2008 5:29:31 AM | #

I am so tired of Brooke's "sincere" posturing. Yes, she can carry a tune, but she's just not all that.

VERY sorry to see Chikezie go; talented kid; Jason or Ramiele should've been outtahere. Jason is cute in his Siberian husky way but he always sounds like a guy practicing on his guitar; nothing really spectacular.

Caro | Mar 27, 2008 5:48:36 AM | #

I think we'll have another Bo Bice/Carrie Underwood showdown for the Top 2 this season: David Cook and Brooke White. And like before, I will hardly be interested.

I heart Archuleta.

Girley | Mar 27, 2008 6:49:55 AM | #

Yeah Jasmine Trias from Hawaii and big David who sang Copacabana are filipino.

Rami is more the Paris Bennett of this season...cutesy middle of the road singer who will make it to top 5. I can see Disney singing her...maybe she'll be in the next HIgh School Musical movie.

Why haven't any former Idol contestant done Dancing with the Stars??!!

Pookie | Mar 27, 2008 6:55:04 AM | #

Daniel, I'm right there with you. So far the only memorable performances have belonged to David Cook and Chikezie. Even in Chikezie's so-so performances he showed more than most of the others have, and I really love his voice. I'm sorry to see him go, and I hope that, as others have pointed out, he will still go on to have a successful career.

Beth | Mar 27, 2008 7:14:28 AM | #

I don't understand people NOT liking Carly. I really think she has the best overall voice of anyone by far. I'm glad Chikezie is gone. Let's get rid of Kristy next please. Ugh.

Todd | Mar 27, 2008 7:25:19 AM | #

Rami is NO Paris Bennett. Paris is a really big talent, and Rami is fairly limited. And I have a question for Girley. If you weren't interested in the Carrie/Bo showdown (one of the most interesting in the show's history), why do you watch???

Eric 15 | Mar 27, 2008 7:37:15 AM | #

Jasmine was Phillipino, but that just supports David's point. Jasmine got all the way to the top three, far better than her talent warranted.

And, apparently she has sold a ton of CDs in Asia.

Mike | Mar 27, 2008 7:37:28 AM | #

Chikezie has a really good voice, probably the best among the men. And the country intro section of his "She's a Woman" showed that he'd have been interesting next week with Dolly Parton.

But alas he picked the wrong song. Nothing wrong with choosing a ballad; it's just that that ballad was terrible.

Tony | Mar 27, 2008 7:41:14 AM | #

Ramielle is a very good singer, and a mediocre (at best) performer. This week, she also screwed up her vocals, AND sand first. I was amazed she survivied.

Frank | Mar 27, 2008 7:43:37 AM | #

Jasmine was from Hawaii - remember, she always used to wear a flower in her hair & go on about it.

Debby | Mar 27, 2008 7:59:00 AM | #

Totally agree with the Spanx comment, why would anyone go there! Low class??? well, I suppose that's obvious isnt it? She is the Tattoo queen after all. She is totally over-rated, not a great singer at all.
Michael Johns or Brooke White to win. Really anyone except her OH and the comb over king!

| Mar 27, 2008 8:03:30 AM | #

Here is my take. Carly to me is clearly the best female vocalist on the show. Syesha and Chikeze were in the bottom partly because they chose bad/unknown songs(also wondering why Syesha was allowed to sing a song from 1971)..KLC is far from beautiful(Carrie is beautiful) and is an average singer and will be gone soon.
Top 4 should be the two Davids, Carly and Johns. Whether it turns out that way is another story. Love everyones comments.

Dr. Kennedy | Mar 27, 2008 8:04:30 AM | #

Then again Daughtry should have been the clearcut winner and he lost. The same public chose Ruben over Clay and Kimberly Locke...Fantasia over LaToya London/Diana D and everyone else. =(

Dr Kennedy | Mar 27, 2008 8:08:12 AM | #

LOL. Very well put (Your Friends at 19).

I just don't get it.

People need to understand that this is no longer a singing competition like it was with seasons 1 and 2. It's become a popularity contest.

David Archuleta is a yawn-inducing borefest. I think he's too young for this. He can sing ok, but he doesn't connect with the song. Chikezie is a great singer, but showed no personality at all. Kristy is cute and funny, but she's no Kellie Pickler. And Ramiele is getting all those Danny votes.

Can we bring Danny back? At least he could sing and was entertaining.

Peace.

PS. Kimberly Locke was amazing. Her voice is pure gold.

JVice | Mar 27, 2008 8:09:58 AM | #

I am a former die-hard Idol fan who is bored to tears this year!
Worst Top 10 ever - seems as if the judges are even losing interest.
One more season?? Dunno

The Editor | Mar 27, 2008 8:10:45 AM | #

I'm not at all a Carly fan. I don't see how anyone raves over her. Her voice is okay on some songs, but she is not enteraining. I dislike the way she over-acts (i.e. scrunching up her nose on every note that goes over high C, doubling over on the end note of every song, etc., etc...)I complained that Carrie Underwood didn't know how to perform when she was on the show, but I always knew she had great vocals and could learn how to perform. And that's what happened. Carly gives me the impression that she thinks she is a star, and she's just waiting for me to find that out.

wondering | Mar 27, 2008 8:12:30 AM | #

Re: not liking Carly.

She's British. This is AMERICAN Idol. They even have their own show in Britain...

But, beyond that, she also has a huge tendancy to slur her words when she sins and she's not interesting to watch. And her tattoo freaks me out.

K | Mar 27, 2008 8:14:04 AM | #

Look at some of the results of Dial Idol, Ramielle gets a huge voter surge on the west coast, the vast majority of the asian population lives on the west coast. She should have been in the bottom three last night.

It was a little wicked of the producers to hold Kristy to the last with Jason. they should have brought her out earlier and solo and let her celebrate being safe the way Carly did. With Jason in the hot seat, Kristy had to play respectful of his feelings.

I liked Chikeizie and was sorry to see him go, reminded me of Taylor Hicks. He will be a big hit on tour.

I suspect Jason will be safe next week as the teen girls will rush to his aid.

So Carly when you signed that big deal with MCA and tried to create a big album, you didn't actually go into a recording studio with lots of buttons and knobs. I don't begrudge you your past efforts, but please drop the whole "oh geez, this is all so new and scary" attitude.

jbw | Mar 27, 2008 8:23:43 AM | #

You must be racist or something to have to compare Ramiele to Sanjaya.. that is only pure bias or hatred. If you hate her so much, just vote against her. And this isn't a BLOG, this is a RECAP. So keep your cheesy unnecessary comments to yourself and just report what happened.. you aren't funny.

Darryl | Mar 27, 2008 8:26:25 AM | #

Loved your comment Your Friends at 19.

I even doubt that the votes mean anything. It's certainly not a singing competition, it's not even a popularity contest, it's a huge commercial for whoever they think they can sell.

Maybe it always was and I just didn't want to admit it.

KLC, please! She's worse than Sanjaya.

tv | Mar 27, 2008 8:30:12 AM | #

Not a Carly fan either, but she is not British. Come on, America; get some knowledge beyond our borders. I dislike her tatoos also, but that isn't influencing me about her performance. (I think that exposing the large one on her arm all of the time is distracting, though, and she would be better served to wear a sleeve in one or two of her outfits!)

eric 15 | Mar 27, 2008 8:42:23 AM | #

I think Carly is really interesting! I'm not always crazy about her song choice, but I'm never sure what she's going to do from week to week and I like that. "Total Eclipse" is such a fun song, and she sang it just fine. Plus, her tattoo is freaking cool.

To whoever said she is British, she's definately Irish (from Dublin), and there's a big difference b/tw England and Ireland. Besides, this country is made up of people who immigrated here at one point or another. Why shouldn't folks originally from other countries have a shot?

Cat | Mar 27, 2008 8:55:30 AM | #

K - Carly is not British - she is Irish - and believe me there is a BIG difference.
Doesnt make any difference anyway, she's useless

| Mar 27, 2008 9:02:50 AM | #

Um, Yea, Carly is IRISH, from Dublin Ireland like she told us in her interview this week. She is NOT British. Pay attention out there people. This is how America gets it wrong half the time on this show, mis-informed closed-mindedness.

Chris | Mar 27, 2008 9:03:20 AM | #

Britain and Ireland are two different countries idiot!

The Border Patrol | Mar 27, 2008 9:12:43 AM | #

I was so disappointed when Chikezie was eliminated last night. He always seemed happy and had a strong voice. I had a feeling that he wouldn't win, but I was hoping for a top 5 finish at least. Personally, I thought he had a great personality, but the rest of America must have thought he was too "boring". :-(

I hate to say this, but David Archuleta is probably going to make it to the final 3. He is cute and all, but his voice cannot compare to some of the other contestants (David Cook is one of my favorites). Archuleta seems to be a nice kid, but he should be signed to the Disney Channel, not the winner of American Idol. Does anyone else think he resembles Disney's favorite son Zac Efron???

Paige | Mar 27, 2008 9:40:36 AM | #

I heart Archie because of his personality, which comes across as a little shy and a little embarrassed. Zac Efron has a completely different persona---smooth, confident. I would say Archie plays defense while Zac plays offense.

Eric @ 15 | Mar 27, 2008 9:43:59 AM | #

Daniel, thank you to you and your former college roommate Andrew for making me laugh this morning. I always look forward to your recaps, this season they are absolutely the best thing about AI. Too bad about Chikezie, he should have stuck around longer.

Amy | Mar 27, 2008 9:45:55 AM | #

Paige, I agree, I thought Chikezie had a great personality. Far better than some of the non-entities who are still on the show.

Dr. Kennedy, Syesha's song choice also threw me for a minute, but that song was covered by Stephanie Mills in 1987, so she took advantage of a loophole like some others have.

Beth | Mar 27, 2008 9:46:55 AM | #

I liked Rami a lot early on, but she's been fairly weak over the last several weeks.

Popularity vs. Singing Contest: Viewers vote for their favorites, whether it be based on looks, personality, singing ability, charisma, etc. You can assume that people who go to the trouble to vote will also go to the trouble to buy that person's records once they win the competition. Anyone who thinks stardom is based only on singing ability is deluded. A mediocre singer with lots of sex appeal and charisma will outsell a skillful-but-boring singer every time. This is what Simon is always saying about the "look", the "personality", the "song choice" ,and the "voice".

Seymour | Mar 27, 2008 9:48:29 AM | #

Geez, I could tell Carly was Irish the first time I heard her speak. I can tell British, Scottish and Irish apart just from their accent and choice of words. It's not that hard.

Chikeze was pretty good, he should not have gone this early. He was definitely better than KLC, Ramiele and Jason.

Currently I'm loving the tunes of Michael Johns and David Cook. I like Brooke White but she just doesn't have enough to win.

Idolater | Mar 27, 2008 9:49:49 AM | #

Great take, 19! Loved it! I've come to enjoy the re-caps and subsequent remarks much more than the actual show (but then I don't think I would be watching AI if not for my family watching it). Here are my fearless predictions from a completely non-invested point of view.

Jason's fanbase will rally (much like Carly's did this week) and keep him safe. David and David are still too good to go. Brooke seems to have an odd appeal that keeps her coming back. Carly will nail one next week because she is due. Michael could be in trouble depending on his song choice.

Next week's bottom three: Remi, Kristy Lee*, and Syesha. Gone: Remi.

*Carly may make a surprise return to the bottom three because I don't know that she will due well with a country song. Kristy will be in her element so that could shield her one more week.

Don | Mar 27, 2008 10:02:04 AM | #

Someone said they could tell British, Scottish and Irish apart. Well just to explain - a British person is someone who is from England, Scotland or Wales. England does not mean the same as Britain. English does not mean the same as British. There are issues as to whether people from Northern Ireland see themselves as British or Irish. Just to say that I hate Carly's tattoo but I love her voice!

JL, England | Mar 27, 2008 10:28:41 AM | #

Jason Castro should've been voted off tonight. He's not a great singer, and he's only skating by on the votes of teenybopper girls and pot enthusiasts.

Sean | Mar 27, 2008 10:56:58 AM | #

The one thing that finally pushed me to get TiVo was so that I didn't have to sit through every painful second of Idol anymore. I only listen to entire performances that are actually GOOD and then fast forward through Randy's and Paula's comments. David Archuleta is not all that...his only style of singing is slow, boring, and bland. Cuteness will only get him so far.

Patty | Mar 27, 2008 11:02:46 AM | #

wrong person went home last night. Personally, I like Kristy. So happy that she will be there next week with the incredible DOLLY

I like Kristy too. I will never understand why people feel they have to put the contestants down. Everyone has their own personality and singing style and I like to hear her sing.

dr kennedy-

Check your vision, Kristy is a looker and she is in great shape (I am assuming you are male, if not, maybe you are jsut jealous?). And when you here her next week, listen with an open mind. She just might suprise you.

Ramiele needs to go. She is proof that you should only get to vote once.

Jason needs to be gone yesterday.

I will miss Chikezie, he made it fun.

Can Brooke do anything else but her Carly Simon wannabe performance.

Hopefully, she picks another bad song, screws up on the piano and gets the boot.

It is no coincidence that Malubay and Malakar start with the same three letters, which mean BAD! Ramiele is one of 5 who have not been in the bottom 3, including the Davids, Michael and Brooke. Let's hope she was actually 7th this week, and will drop to 9th next week as Jason and Syesha benefit from being in the bottom 3 and increased votes next week. She just has to leave over the next week or two, at most.

I will not miss Jacuzzi Cheezy. After his wonderful audition, he lost me over the past few weeks with his histrionics, weird performances, and boring song choices.

Why do people assume that because someone is Asian or Pacific islander they would vote for Ramiele? And Jasmine is Filipino from Hawaii. Some people need to not be so distorted with race. Like Carly is Irish (not Welsh, Scottish, or an EastEnder). Michael is Australian. As long as they are legal citizens they should be in this competition. Apparently Ramielle was born in Saudi Arabia. This is a very eclectic Idol, and therefore it's the most interesting, not necessarily the best Idol ever but different because of the variety of people. jason and ramielle need to go.

I was fine with Chikezie going home tonight. Each week he never chose the rights songs. That seems to be one of the problems this season. Majority of the contestants are chosing unknown, boring songs. I watch this show because I enjoy hearing the music I know and someone singing it well. The only contestant to chose the rights songs EVERY week has been Brooke. I have heard every song she has sung on the show.

Top 3 MUST be Brooke, David A., and Michael Johns!!!!!

Send David Cook home IMMEDIATLY!!!! He's always screaming and then makes smug faces. He thinks he's great and that is what annoys me about him. Hopfully the voters send him home ASAP, but unfortunately that will not happen. Does anyone agree with me?

Scott | Mar 27, 2008 1:40:06 PM | #

Ugh! Chikezie wasn't my favorite, but for the love of God can someone please tell me why Kristy Lee Cook is still in this? She is definately this year's Sanjaya - she has got to go before ruining the rep of the show. And Remy may have the Asian vote, but if she doesn't start producing soon, she'll need to go too! (And Jason, those beautiful eyes will only get you so far! Time to step up or step off dawg!)

KDOG | Mar 27, 2008 2:14:55 PM | #

Silly people. This year's Sanjaya was Danny! Fortunately they got rid of him before the finals began. David Cook is so cocky and arrogant but is doing a great job of picking the right song and making it work with his style of music. Regardless of if he wins or not, he will sell more records than anyone else this season. Carly is over-rated and Archuleta reminds me more of Clay Aiken each week. He has a beautiful voice but, like Clay, is more suited for Broadway than popular music.

I HAVE A FEELING THAT AMERICAN IDOL WILL SOON COME TO AN END. IT IS NOT AS GOOD AS IT USE TO BE. THE CONTESTANTS ARE LACKING IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD AND I DON'T THINK IT IS GOING TO IMPROVE IN THE FUTURE. I PREDICT THAT EITHER JASON OR CARLY WILL BE SENT HOME NEXT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHO WILL MAKE IT TO THE FINALS BUT IT IS NOT THEM.

I, too, was sad to see Chikezie go home. He had the best and most versital voice of all the men. I think Ramile or Kristy Lee should have gone before Chikezie. I will miss him. The rest are just plain boring. I don't think this season is good at all.

i think all of you are wrong about your view of ramiele. first, there are only about 1.5 million filipinos in the us and 1.5 million will not put you to the top nine (get your demographics); second, ramiele has a huge non-asian followers to cover up the deficit; third your point of view are all subjective and they're not passable to judge a competition...all of them got bad comments from the judges...so do not nail a contestant just to uplift your favorite idol in a discriminating way.

noel | Mar 27, 2008 8:03:25 PM | #

A lot of Ramiele bashing going on here. It makes me wonder where her votes were coming from to make her always avoid the bottom three.

Scott-

You are not alone.
Me and one other person agree with you (we mentioned it on yesterday's blog).

I think every Scotsman would be offended to be called British. We're Scottish! And we like the lassie Kristy Lee. She's finally able to sing songs in her genre. Aie, she's a looker, but she's got the pipes, too.

Scotsman | Mar 27, 2008 11:45:35 PM | #

hey 'scotsman', clearly you either aren't scottish or are completely CLUESLESS!! Scotland is in Britain.

Carly rocks!

yes... ramiele is here to stay. even simon likes her and said she could be on the top 3. asian americans are behind her... and yea if you think her music is boring then what do you call brooke or jason's music? do you really think they are better vocalist than ramiele? take their guitar off the stage and lets see.

idolme | Mar 29, 2008 8:06:19 AM | #

I think Ramiele was eliminated because she was born in Saudi Arabia. I thought she was a great singer but as soon as she said the she was born in Saudi Arabia, I knew her days were numbered. Too bad...
