'Prison Break': I'd kill for a case of booze

Williamfichtner2_prisonbreak_s3_240 While Michael, Alex and Whistler toil in the tunnel, everything topside goes topsy-turvy on Prison Break. Lechero is out, Sammy is king, Bellick is The People's Champion, and Lincoln has some cunning plans. It's madness I tell you -- madness!

We'll always have spoilers.

While the Three Uneasy Amigos are underground working on the tunnel, Sammy seizes control of Sona -- he and his gun and his henchthugs depose Lechero, but they let the big man live, out of respect for what he used to be. It's no spoiler to say that's probably a big, big mistake. Sammy's first decree: A case of rum to the man who brings me Michael Scofield! Oh dear.

T-Bag, who had been peevish about being left out of tunnel-digging plans, sets off to neutralize Sammy. Not being an idiot, he enlists Bellick to take out the troublesome upstart. Bellick is all to happy to do so -- his acetone-fueled victory in the chicken-foot fight club means he's now everyone's favorite white guy in Sona, and he's thrilled to burnish that reputation (while also getting a golden ticket for the big escape.) Slight problem: There's no more acetone, or, apparently, any other noxious, knock-out chemicals in all of Sona. Bellick is going to have to fight Sammy without assistance. Sammy, predictable, kicks the crap out of him, and Bellick's formerly adoring public is less than impressed.

The only reason Bellick isn't most sincerely dead is that The Three Amigos  pop their head out of their hidey hole, so Sammy takes a break from breaking Bellick to go get Scofield. Michael and Mahone manage to lock themselves in the tunnel, but, when and  Whistler get beaten up and used as bait, Michael lets the bad guys in. Sammy takes the opportunity to check out the escape plan, but oops! Michael removed one teeny tiny support bolt from the tunnel structure, and Sammy is crushed. This gives Lechero the opportunity to reestablish dominance by dumping Sammy and henchthugs' bodies in the courtyard. What did I say about letting Lechero live? Told you.

On the outside, Lincoln does a search for Whistler's alias, and then buys a bomb. That can't be good. Gretchen sort of hits on Sucre a bit, then pays him for spying on Lincoln. Sucre turns out to be a giant idiot (shocker!) --  he immediately sends that money to Maricruz, so now the Company knows where she lives. Dork. However, it looks like Sucre has planted Lincoln's bomb in Gretchen's car, so it's possible Sucre is ahead of the game. I kind of doubt it, though.

Lincoln and Sofia continue their potential romance -- he takes her on a lovely bomb-buying date, then buys her an Eiffel Tower keychain. She responds by having a hissyfit on Whistler's shirt -- what did they ever do to her? -- which leads her to find Whistler's fishing bag. Hidden in the bag is one of those spiffy aluminum briefcases that only spies and TV production designers seem to favor. What's inside? No clue yet -- Sofia is criminally slow about opening mysterious briefcases. We'll find out in a couple weeks, I guess.

Odds and Ends:

  • Boy, this episode seemed slow to me. Perhaps it's because I just saw Cloverfield (awesome!) so just about anything would seem slow to me. Or perhaps this was one of those episodes where no a whole lot happened. Sigh.
  • I suppose I should note that annoying punk-ass kid tries to buy his way into the escape plank and Michael blows him off. I fail to care about annoying punk-ass kid.
  • Bellick, enjoying his reputation: "I felt sorry for the guy, but you don't chicken-foot an ex-Delta Force and expect to make it out alive." A groupie: "You Delta Force -- like Chuck Norris?" Bellick: "Norris? He wouldn't have made it through boot camp!" Dissing Chuck? Oooh, Bellick, you just earned yourself a roundhouse kick to the head.
  • Whistler protests that he's a good guy -- the Company threatened his family! He doesn't willingly work for them! Get to know me! Michael and Mahone remain unimpressed. Mahone: "Quit embarrassing yourself -- we're not two chicks you're trying to pick up in a bar." Hee!
  • What does it say about me that Gretchen is my favorite character at the moment? Sure, she's a killer, but she has all the best lines! She's positively flirty the first time she meets with Sucre -- "I just found out Sucre means Sugar.... So every time I say your name, I'm calling you Sugar? I like that!"
  • The second time? Not so much. She talks about knowing where Sucre sent the check: to "Maricruz Delgado, in Chicago, at 123 Please Don't Hurt Me Lane." Hee!
  • On the upside, Michael's manipulation of the tunnels means Sammy's no longer a problem. Downside? It could have caused a giant sinkhole in the middle of no man's land. Somehow, miraculously, the ground is unblemished. What are the odds?

In two weeks, the escape begins (again.) See you then!

I didn't think it was a slow episode. This show just moves along so much faster than every other show. I mean in any other the show, Sammy's reign of power would have lasted at least half of a season. But in Prison Break it lasts all of 15 minutes (minus commercials). All in all, good stuff. Can't wait to see what's in the case. And I highly doubt Gretchen is gonna die in the bombed car. They'll probably stick AJ in the car right before it blows up or something, lol.

So, can we all agree that Sofia is smokin' hot? And, if I were in Link's position...I'd probably make a move too. But, you can't come with any weak lines. And my man Link didn't dissapoint. Finding an Eiffel Tower keychain in a Panamanian drug store...dude...that's impressive. Lincon Burrows has much game!!!

This episode was fantastic. It had me on the edge of my seat. I didn't want Bellick to die, and when hearing in the previous promos, that someone was gonna die, and I saw it coming for Bellick. But I'm glad it didn't. I was on the edge of my seat. GREAT EPISODE! Not slow at all. I don't know what the reviewer is talking about saying it was slow.

All righty then. It was just me who thought it was slow. Must be Cloverfield's fault. (Have you seen it? If not, go now!)

Actually, upon reflection, "slow" may have been the wrong word. It was just kind of... I don't know, pointless. Yes, Sammy took over, but you knew it wouldn't stick. He was just an impediment, and it was pretty obvious he'd be disposed of as efficiently as possible. So... why bother?

Same with the tunnel collapse. That could have been a huge deal, but somehow, against all logic (and yes, I realize invoking logic in this show is an iffy proposition), it didn't actually have any real effect. No sinkhole, no evidence, just what felt like a bait-and-switch to me.

Am I alone in this?

the episode was paced at my pleasure, I guess Cloverzilla didn't move me

I saw Cloverfield. Hated it.

Another fantastic episode. I knew as soon as Sammy let Lechero live that he was done for. Big Mistake Sammy. How have I suddenly found myself rooting for Lechero? This show does wierd things to me! Michael, baby it was you or him, you had to kill that guy. No choice. And looks like Mahone has gotten over his withdrawels. Nice to see him back in top form. What an odd team, Michael, Whistler, Lechero and Mahone.

And now we have to wait 2 weeks for a new episode!!!! Now I'm the one who will be having withdrawels.

Going to see Cloverfield this weekend. Very excited about that!

This episode was awesome. Bellick trying to be a bad *** challenging Sammy when he thought he had the edge was as hilarious as when he found out there was no more acetone and he tried to chicken out after taking the chicken foot. Sammy letting Lechero live was a big mistake. I hate that the Company know about Maricruz. I was hoping Sucre could get a happy ending like C-note. Michael should tell the kid that the last kid to join the escape got killed. Maybe that would cool his jets.

The pace was fine with me so I enjoyed this episode.

I liked it, as usual.

Just one question, did Mahone go through the complete withdrawal or did he take something? (I missed the first 2 or 3 minutes). He was very much like the old Mahone. I liked how he and Michael got along too.
