Sarahswartz_makemeasupermodel_240 Last week's episode of Make Me a Supermodel left off with telling America to pick who should stay on the show, Sarah, Katy or Dominic. I start the episode hoping that now that we've made it to an actual elimination, things will pick up. I am bitterly disappointed. Not by who they toss from the show (Sarah), but by the show in general.

We go through all the main story points most reality shows hit - including those utilized by America's Next Top Model. But it all falls flat. When the models get make overs, few of them actually look any different. The most radical changes occur with Katy - who gets made over as a redhead, and Holly - who has her bob shorn into a pixie. Frankie gets threatened with clippers, but in the end, all it looks like they did was give him a blow dry and some silicon based smoothing serum.

On their photo shoot, the models are hoisted up on harnesses and swung about a bit, but none of them really strike any dynamic poses. Certainly not enough to conform to the theme of Confidence and Movement. What we see looks more like Awkward and Blurry. We see the models at a dinner where the give each other the typical Q&A, asking who they think the weakest models are, who the hottest are, etc etc. Yet, even when Ronnie is blushing and going on about how he thinks Ben is the hottest and admitting that he has a crush on the prison guard, it is still edited together in such a way as to be yawn inducing.  The catwalk competition utilizes the over-the-top fashion of Heatherette - whose work I usually find entertaining if not completely interesting. Yet presented here, t barely holds my attention.

I thought about all this and finally I realized what this show is missing: Miss J. There is no coach that follows the models on their shoots and backstage at catwalks, telling them and showing them what to do, getting frustrated or exhilarated by how a model performs. Without that essential spice, the models wander about with no idea how to behave at a shoot, and the scenes meander by without the thread that holds them all together in a cohesive story.

More horrifying than the lack of an actual instructor for our model hopefuls, is the weekly weigh-in and measurement taking. This week Katy gained an inch in her bustline and was asked on national television "What happened? Is it that time of the month?" I wanted to smack the tight lipped woman with the clipboard and say "Yes, you bint - because real women have curves and get their periods and maybe, on occasion indulge in Cherry Garcia ice cream!"  By way of comparison, when it is revealed that when Holly last a half-inch all around, she is relentlessly congratulated for looking skeletal. Further, when they find that Aryn lost 3 inches they congratulate her as well, with only weak cautions to not lose more or be unhealthy. Because she's the picture of health now? On the other hand, this show - while trying to look cheery and glamorous - perfectly showcases what is wrong with the industry of fashion modeling.

The Good: Um. I laughed when I looked at Tyson during the catwalk competition and realized he looked like I felt : as if he had been slowly tortured for the last 45 minutes and wanted nothing more than to go home without having to talk to a single person there.

The Bad: We learn nothing about what the models should do, nothing about the designers, and still don't care who wins or loses.

The Ugly
: The NY Models reps. And watching the male models get their butt cheeks waxed. It's a toss up between which was worse.

In the end, Jacki is the winner for the week, while Katy (supposedly fat), Dominic (complains too much) and Ben (lacking personality) are the bottom three who are left to await America's judgment.  I am left wishing Bravo would rerun Project Runway.

You are soo right. They are pushing for everyone to lose weight. They are being unfair to Katy. I guess they will keep putting her in the bottom 3 until she gets voted off b/c they think she is way toooooo fat. come on?

Excellent recap of an awful show--"Make Me a Supermodel" is painfully bad! "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" may be one the trashiest shows on TV, but at least it's FUN! "Make Me a Supermodel" is the dreariest reality series around. It's hard to imagine anyone caring about any of the numbskulls competing in this dull show.

I agree that it's slightly disturbing that they keep encouraging the girls to lose weight, but I don't really think that is why Katy is at the bottom. I think she just doesn't have that extra something to make her a super model. Not memorable or interesting, even with her new hair color.

I am also disappointed. My son-in-law Brandon Franklin was one of the 24 finalists and is better looking then most of the guys that are still in there.
