'Kyle XY' just wants to be noticed

Jessi I gotta admit, even though the latest Kyle XY was a little bit afterschool special-y, the show is great with delivering messages and never gets too cheesy or preachy. In fact, it usually has a great "awww" moment that gets me every time.

Spoilers blowin' up ahead and probably heading to YouTube.

Kyle is so flush with the fact that the Tragers know his secret, he gets a bit careless. Caught in the moment, he's enjoying the feel of the lawn sprinklers on a sunny day when he starts levitating a few inches from the grass. Pretty cool. Oh, but Amanda's mom Carol Bloom sees. Not cool.

Kyle is going to be careful now so he won't draw attention to himself. Too bad Jessi doesn't feel the same way. Jessi's been living with Brian Taylor because a genetic test proved that he was her dad. He's not exactly the best father material as we shall see.

Hillary Jessi's doing the classic teen cry out for help and attention by acting out, only she's doing it with her genetically enhanced gifts. When she jumps off a building and lands safely and easily, it's caught on camera by Hillary, who's on a quest to make her school video blog the vehicle to make her famous. Kyle cautions Jessi to be stay low profile, and she agrees, only to turn around and get in another of Hillary's videos, this time running on water and showing her face.

Jessi's finding the notoriety sweet, especially since it's getting her invited to the popular parties, but Kyle and the Trager clan are worried and confront Brian Taylor about his parenting skills. He's at a loss of what to do and even when Kyle saves the day at the end, it turns out Jessi's still out of control. When last we see her, she's jumping off the ledge of her bedroom window, off to do who knows what.

In Trager land, Stephen has left Madacorp, which is led by an evil Emily who tries to woo him back and then during the Career Days fair at the high school, tries to recruit Jessi. Meanwhile, with a little prodding from Kyle, slacker Josh decides to turn his direction in life to medicine, the better to study, treat and hopefully cure cancer since that's what Andy has.

Thoughts/Highlights:

- Usually I enjoy Hillary's selfish banter and creative insults, but she was just a pale imiation of herself this episode. "Queen of Fabulous"? Lame. Oh, but her bargaining with the guys who wanted to get to first base with her? Classic. And nice shoutout to LonelyGirl15 (who's on fellow ABC Family show Greek).
- I think Jaimie Alexander as Jessi is a fantastic actress when she emotes, but all the other times she's kind of dead and stares a lot.
- Enjoyed Andi's pink wig. Very Jem and the Holograms.
Josh - I love the borderline naughty exchanges this show gets away with:
Kyle: I used my hyperzoom processor on it. I couldn't see a face, just a female form.
Josh: Just how I like it.
- Oh Jessi, are we doomed to go through all the teen angst with her? First popularity and attention, next ... body image? getting the latest phone? an unrequited crush? a goth phase?
- Not feeling any sympathy for Brian Taylor yet. Can't stop using both his names either.
- Kyle's manipulation of water is really impressive, especially since he worked his mojo inside Jessi's body. That came out wrong.
- My "awww" moment -- when Josh tells Andy he wants to study medicine because "I wanna be the one who saves you." Josh, you have been stepping up this whole season, especially now, when Andy's being a bit too kooky and wacky to be real.
- Next week: OMG! Ablanda emotionally cheating on Kyle? Does she have that much personality? Ooh, it looks like Kyle will beat Jessi to the first heartbreak afterschool special plot.

Whaddya think?

In a series of horrible reality shows this show is my beakon of light of quality and fun television. Thank god this is on. I am loving every minute of this series.

It was good to see Hillary back on screen. I thought maybe the writers had sent her to "boarding school" or something. ;-) The You Tube notoriety that both Hillary and Jessi were seeking is actually a pretty realistic storyline.

HANH: I agree that this episode seemed a little "After School Special" with telling Jessi that she doesn't need to show off in order to make friends. However, one of the constants of this show is that Kyle has always been the moral center. Kyle is usually selfless and virtuous, so when he gives advice to someone he doesn't seem preachy or hypocritical. I like how he helped Josh make up his mind about studying medicine, instead of being a slacker.

This was another episode where I didn't miss Amanda at all. There was enough drama going on among Jessi, Kyle and the Tragers that she really doesn't need to be in every episode. The previews for next week made it look like Amanda has a big secret, but she probably just wants to tell Kyle that they can only be friends while she is away at school. I think Amanda will still feel jealous toward Jessi though.

I agree about this weeks "awwww" moment between Josh and Andi and the whole "I wanna be the one who saves you" line. It brought tears to my eyes. Josh always seems to throw in those one liners that show off his serious side while Andi is always being quirky. They balance each other well. Not excited to see Ablanda come back next week, it was a good episode without her. Anyways, love the show!
