Floating like butterflies, stinging like bees on 'Private Practice'
Things are becoming more and more complex on Private Practice. The secret is out about Sam and Naomi -- Addison knows, and as such, everyone is getting the hint. Officer Kevin Nelson (David Sutcliffe) is back to flirt with Addison, and I am loving Cooper and Charlotte. And as several of you gentle readers pointed out, when did Charlotte become Southern?
Spoilers ahead...
Sam and Naomi are still re-heating, and Sam wants to keep their new relationship quiet, but Naomi doesn't see the need. She tells him that she needs to know that things will be different, that Sam won't give up this time. Dell walks in on them, and after Naomi leaves, Dell lays into Sam, and professes, beautifully, that he loves Naomi -- that she "dazzles" him - and that he's not going to just let Sam have her without a fight. Aw! Too sweet! Sam, with his own shackles up, brushes him off, and heads straight to Naomi, to tell her that he's "done" with Dell. In the end, however, Dell has his own lip-lock moment with Naomi, explaining that while he may not have everything together, he's no boy, and he's going to fight for her. Go Dell. Stumbling out of her office after that moment with Dell, Naomi runs into Sam, who kisses her too. Witnessing Sam and Naomi, Pete asks Dell what just happened, and Dell explains that Sam is fighting for her... but she's worth it. Dell vs. Sam! Round Two coming up!
Officer Nelson is back, and is trying desperately to connect with Addison, but the timing seems to be wrong for them. To clear the air, she makes up with Pete, determined to be "friends" with him. But Pete isn't happy with that alone, and tells her that she needs to be out there, looking for someone, and that someone is out there for the finding. She's still apprehensive though, and rightfully so, and so she pays a visit to Officer Kevin, leaving Pete to struggle with the fact that he may have missed the boat.
After yet another romp, Charlotte mentions to Cooper that she needs a new instructor for a "father's class" at the hospital. When she's not around, he steals the class roster, and then approaches Pete to do the class at the practice with him. Charlotte, of course, figures out what Cooper has done, and calls off their hookup. Violet, trying to make things right with Cooper in the meantime, apologizes for the Friends With Benefits Gone Awry plan. She also deduces that Cooper has a girlfriend. Can't wait until she finds out who the girlfriend is... and yes, Charlotte comes over anyway.
One of Addison's previous patients, Kathleen (literally couldn't have sex, remember?) comes back to find out why she's not getting pregnant. Kathleen's husband Jeffery has the issue this time though -- Addison and Naomi discover he's sterile. He is insistent that a sperm donor should be used. Jeffery explains to Addison later that he only wants to give Kathleen what she wants, no matter what his own feelings are. He then brings in his own boorish brother to serve as a donor, much to the discomfort of all of the women. They both call it off at the last minute, and Jeffery pleads with Addison and Naomi to help them figure out another way. They propose going into Jeffery's testicles on a search mission for any viable sperm they can find. Fortunately, they're able to find one lone sperm, and they combine it with Kathleen's egg in a dish, immediately making a baby. Look for Kathleen and Jeffery in future episodes.
Dell asks Sam to examine his grandfather Wendell (the infamous George Segal) and his friend, Nate. Dell believes they are being abused, but Wendell and Nate deny it. Dell, not convinced, drags Sam to their nursing home and learn the truth -- Gramps and his buddy are fight-clubbing it out in the basement. Nate ends up having a heart attack and is whisked to the hospital by Sam. There, Dell confronts his Wendell, and makes him promise to put an end to the fighting. He agrees; he blames himself for Nate's condition. In the end, Nate doesn't make it. His heart wasn't strong enough, and it had nothing to do with Wendell. Wendell explains that fighting made them both live, and explains to Dell and Sam that fighting for anything is better than waiting around. Seems like they both listened to Wendell.
High Points:
· I've said before that Naomi and Dell would make for an interesting couple on this show, but I hadn't considered a Dell/Naomi/Sam triangle. That's going to be fun.
· That said, I liked Dell and Sam working together to help Dell's grandfather, even while the issues with Naomi were circling their heads.
· "Come on you bastard!" from Kathleen during the sperm chase made me laugh out loud.
· More David Sutcliffe! More David Sutcliffe!
What did you think? Did Dell convince you that he's all man, no boy? Do you think a pining Pete is as attractive as a flirty Pete? And seriously, was Charlotte Southern at the beginning of this show?
I'll say this. There is a VERY fine line between wife and ex-wife. Especially when the couple probably should have never divorced in the first place. Dell is a boy, nothing more, and he's getting on my nerves.
That said. Charlotte and Cooper are hilarious! I still think it'll be Coop and Vi in the end but the powers that be would just screw 'em up if they put them together now. Plus, I really like Charlotte. Although, I don't remember if she was southern from the get go, but I don't mind. However, as a southern girl myself, I'm biased :P
And I second, more David Sutfliffe!
It was an enjoyable episode. I like a couple of others better, but still.
Pete and Addie need to do their own things for a while, but I still think Pete's hotter than Officer Manly.
Cooper was Adorable. Dell's a little too intense, and crossed the line with his kiss. Not enough Violet!
Blimey, Naomi's gone from not getting any to potentially getting two! Do I wish I was in her shoes? Oh My God yes!
I have to defend Dell who is not a boy. My husband is 27 and I'm 47 - we've been married 3 years. When Dell said he wouldn't make Naomi cry that's the main reason I finally suc***bed to marrying my husband. Dell is not a boy - he knows what he wants and he's willing to fight for it. He's never held back about letting the world know he loves Naomi. The fact that she even has to ask about whether her relationship with Sam should be a secret is her answer right there. The man who wants her should be proclaiming his love from the rooftops. The problems Naomi and Sam have don't just disappear just because they're getting it on again and they're the right age. Naomi should see what the difference in treatment she'll get from Dell as opposed to Sam - she'll probably find she'll be smiling for the hell of it rather than grimacing about when the next disaster is going to hit. Dell loves her so much and I can't help feeling that Sam's just drifted back into this because of the sex. They're not living together and they haven't told their daughter either. Once the novelty wears off the old problems will resurface. Dell loves her and I'm glad he's finally going to fight for her.
Tom Cruise is my age and Katie Holmes is my husband's age but no-one's calling her a girl same with Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.
As my husband says, he's only going to get older!

I disagree with the 'round 2' ***essment. To me, Dell was just a device to get Naomi and Sam back together. Now that they are, Dell will (and should) be given separate storylines - some may even focus on a character not currently ***ociated with the practice.
Charlotte has always had a southern accent, it may be a bit stronger now but it has always been there.
I don't disagree with Solly's statement about Dell not being a boy.
However, Katie Holmes WAS a young girl to Tom Cruise's dirty old man and the majority of people were appalled. And tell me, does anyone truly think she'll live with his truly uber-control issues forever? When she comes into her womanhood, she's gone, baby, gone.

Well, Solly, congrats to you and your hubby. Yall are a unique situation that doesn't usually work out.
And there's my point - every situation is unique. My problem is not with Dell's age so much as his maturity.
I would have been surprised if Sam and Naomi hadn't considered keeping things quiet. It's personal and when you add in the fact that they have a daughter it gets tricky very quickly. Before letting their daughter know they should decide where they stand. Their daughter stands to get hurt by this the most if things don't work out.
