'Reaper' and the 8-track

Bretharrison_reaper_240 It's back to business on Reaper after a fun Halloween. But don't worry. This episode also has twice the demon fun too.

We've got a thing, and it's called spoilers.

Supernatural struggle:

- Demon sense/lure of the week - Golden Earring's "Radar Love"
- Souls of the week - Kit and Holly (Buffy's Mercedes McNab), two lovers who get their rocks off by causing fatal car crashes
- Vessel of the week - An 8-track tape of "Love, Bullets and Blacktop," which features the song "Radar Love"

The guys lure Kit and Holly by posting an ad for a vintage muscle car, but when they activate the tape, only Kit gets captured. Later, Holly tracks them down, and Sam gives her a decoy 8-track that she thinks has Kit's soul.

Curtisarmstrong_moonlighting_240 (Digression: I'm happy that Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds, Moonlighting) is still getting work, this time as loser Workbench worker Russ. Sure, he helps them out with some vintage car info, but it's his sad, has-been status (he hooked them up with a Betamax player) that's genius.)

After watching the film, Sam figures out that Holly will rendezvous at Midnight Auto Body in order to free Kit from the tape. After a brief struggle involving a blowtorch and some singing, the guys eventually triumph. Um, a trifle anticlimactic, don't you think?

Meanwhile, on a guy's night out, during which Sock vows Sam will be "planting your flag at Iwo Jima tonight," Sam actually impresses a very drunk girl, Taylor, enough to score her digits. Andi isn't sure what to make of this when she actually meets the very cute Taylor, but urges Sam to ask her out anyway, which he eventually does.

The odd thing is, Satan has been pushing Sam at Taylor as well, even detailing some of her particular erogenous zones. Hmm, should Sam trust the devil? Has this ever been a good idea? Well, it turns out Sammy boy refuses to have a meaningless fling, realizing that Satan was tempting him once again.

So, this was an okay episode, but I'd like to get back to the deeper stuff, like what Sam's dad is hiding ...

A few highlights:

Raywise_reaper - Satan: "The French invented love so they could put a civilized face on lust ... we're just endorphins and genitalia."
- Sock: "The code word is 'jambalaya.'" Ben: "I don't like that word."
- Holly: "Do you like to play with danger?" Sam: "I dabble."
- Advice to Sam about Taylor: "Enjoy your spoils." "Don't call her spoils to her face."
- Satan: "Celibacy really makes you insightful."

Your take on the episode?

For three guys who work for the devil, Sam and his posse were really lame at the bar in the opening sequence. I'm pissed at Sam for not taking a chance with Taylor, but I guess it's the company he keeps. It's funny how Sock dislikes Russ, since I could see Sock becoming Russ once middle age kicks in.

Sam's father has been completely out of the picture for 2 weeks now, wonder what's up with that.

From the way things are shaping up, it looks like this show is about how Sam has a positive effect on the devil rather than how the devil turns Sam, which is rather dull.

Ok, NOW I think that Andi needs to find out about Sam working for the devil. I mean, it's great that they're 'friends' now, but what's the point of having her there if that's all she's there for? And after the last two episodes it would be SO fake for them to get together anytime soon!

How can anyone call the scene where they capture Holly anticlimactic? I was laughing so hard at Sock and Ben singing I thought I would actually die.

I also enjoyed the singing part. Old Sock's got a good singing voice too. That said, they do need to change it up a bit. Its starting to get stale and they need to move on the story regarding his Dad as well as get Andi with Sam once and for all. There's no need for them to wait any longer with that because there being friends isn't adding anything to the show. I'd also like to see them explore the Devil a little bit more. Perhaps they were hinting at something there with his adamant refusal to acknowledge that love exists. Hopefully, we might see what that's about in the near future. Also, i thought Sam had some kind of power to fight these guys. The only time he's displayed any real mojo was in the pilot when he was telekinetic. I'd like to see him get a new power as well as a vessel, so they can up the ante on how strong these escaped souls are.

Good comments all around! I definitely want Andi in on the loop ASAP, as most Reapaholics do. And YES, Russ was so similar to the threesome, in an unsettling sort of way for them, that it made for great comedy.

I'm looking forward to more involving Sam's dad, but I'm enjoying each episode so much I do not mind waiting (and that is SO untrue for so many other shows that shall remain nameless).

Absolutely loved Sock and Ben fumbling their way through singing Radar Love.

And finally, I now want to see Sam and Andi hook up for the first time in Andi's hidden sanctuary. Perfect!

How can you recap this episode without including possiblt the best lines on TV this year.

Devil: I'm so sorry I forced Taylor on you, I had no idea you were homosexual.

Do you hear that? That's the sound of every other man laughing at you.

I just about double over I was laughing so hard.

Have only seen this a couple of times, but a few good laughs in there. I liked Andi's secret hideaway in all the boxes, and their crap work ethic lol.

We were laughing so hard at this episode. The devil's little "speeches" are the best; the part about the French inventing love was brilliant. Last week when he waxed rhapsodic about pagan Halloween, with its destruction of crops ("Good times!") was hilarious also.

I wish there was more of Ray Wise in this show, but we love it anyway.

Ray Wise deserves to win an Emmy for his portrayal of the Devil. He always gets the best lines. I loved his statement that love was invented by the French!

I agree with others who want Andi to find out that Sam is working for the Devil. However, I had a feeling that the writers were saving that important reveal for an upcoming mid-season finale episode. I really don't know if the writers strike messed up their plans to have an episode where Andi finally learns the truth. :-(

I loved how Andi had a secret living room made out of boxes at the Work Bench. I was expecting Andi to be jealous of Taylor, but i'm glad she actually gave Sam her message.

On second viewing, this was a much more enjoyable episode. I like to see Sam taking charge and acting as if he is competent when reaping souls.

Let's drink a shot to celebrate the new episodes coming next month.
