'Heroes': About Adam
Those of you guessing that there was more to Takezo Kensei than a legend from feudal Japan, congratulations: Your subscription to this blog is comped for the rest of the season.
Oh, wait. Yeah. Anyway, nice going. (And for the rest of you, here come some 400-years-in-the-making spoilers for Monday's Heroes.)
Anyone else find it weird, during the Hiro storyline so far this season, that Hiro never asked what Kensei's real name was, and Kensei never offered? Turns out there may have been a reason the writers chose not to offer up that seemingly innocuous bit of information.
If he'd said to Hiro in episode two or three, "By the way, my real name is Adam Monroe," that would have spoiled tonight's big reveal. Because, as a number of you commenters had figured in the past couple of weeks, Takezo Kensei and they mysterious Adam Monroe are one and the same. And if Bob's word is to be trusted -- shifty as he is, a fair amount of what he's told Suresh has been true -- Adam is the prime mover behind much of this season's chaos. He's the "visionary" who brought the elders together (and apparently had the good sense not to be photographed; maybe he was holding the camera), and he's the one now hunting them down, with Maury Parkman as his lackey.
Even the mutant virus that Niki injected herself with, which will presumably wipe out nearly all of humanity unless someone fixes things right quick, could be laid at Adam's feet. Sure, it was probably Bob who had the mutant, Suresh-blood-resistant strain of the Shanti virus developed. But one could argue that it was Adam who sicced Maury on the Company facility to induce Niki's nightmare, which led to her injecting herself with said mutant virus.
(I'm aware of how tortured that logic is. If Adam is the Big Bad this season, though, then it stands to reason that he's at least partly responsible for unleashing this future plague on humanity.)
The revelation of just who Adam is also gives some retroactive heft to Hiro's adventures in Japan, though that story still felt a little flabby. I wonder: If Heroes had telescoped most of the Japan thread into one "Company Man"-style episode, rather than in bits and pieces over seven weeks, would have it played better?
Because, it must be said, the conclusion was pretty solid. Hiro tries frantically to get Kensei/Adam back from the dark side, to no avail. Their sword battle was short on actual combat but pretty well-done nonetheless, with Hiro's pleas to return history to its rightful flow falling on deaf ears (although Yaeko promises Hiro that she'll spread the legend of Kensei after he returns to the present, which in turn gives Ando something to do again). We can also assume that Kensei's bitterness has been festering for 400 years, giving us the elder-murdering, plague-unleashing Adam of the present day.
Elsewhere in Heroes-land Monday:
Peter and Caitlin were swiftly quarantined after blinking into the desolation of New York, circa June 2008, and the official-type guy exposited that it was all because of the virus, which jumped to the general populace and killed 93 percent of the world's citizens (here's a thought: I'd be studying why, other than luck, why the survivors survived and seeing if there were some sort of medical/genetic explanation).
Peter also meets up with his mom, who appears to have some of the same mind-control mojo that the Parkmans possess. We saw, earlier in the season, that she could telepathically speak to Matt, and tonight she induced a rush of memories for Peter. After seeing Caitlin being led off for deportation, Peter gets all angry and blinks back to Montreal, where he encounters Adam, who ominously tells him that "You and I are going to change history." Geez, can Peter ever catch a break? Or is he doomed to be at the center of every apocalyptic event on this show?
Matt took a big leap forward in developing his powers, eventually trapping his dad in the nightmare scenario Maury had constructed for Molly. The father-son stuff was, for me, a little heavy on the teary speeches, but Greg Grunberg did a pretty good job selling it. I wonder now what use Parkman's skills will be; it strikes me he could become one heck of a hostage negotiator.
The Company did not have a very good day, what with the virus getting into Niki's bloodstream and Maury inducing her to punch out Suresh and go after Bob. And Suresh really stepped in it by revealing to Bob that he and HRG have been working together. And now Bob has sent him after Claire, figuring her regenerative powers could be the key to saving Niki. Suresh correctly surmises that HRG won't give Claire up willingly, so Bob hands him a gun, just in case.
And speaking of the Bennets: West finally learned that HRG is Claire's dad, which leads him to freak out and fly off -- feel free to cool your heels in hiding for a while, kid -- and Claire to stomp off upstairs when her dad announces they're moving again. He's also burned the paintings, three of which played out tonight: Peter's shocked viewing of the virus victims, the Hiro-Kensei sword fight and Niki bashing a door in to get to Bob.
Now that Suresh has his gun, I'm thinking that maybe the person he's pointed the smoking piece at in his painting might just be HRG, depicted in the final scene as having a bullet-sized hole in one of his lenses. That would be another bit of history that needs to be changed; I'm guessing that even diehards wouldn't stand for HRG's death at this point in the series.
Right? You'd be done with Heroes if that happened, wouldn't you? Or did this episode buy the show a little bit more goodwill?
"We saw, earlier in the season, that she could telepathically speak to Matt, and tonight she induced a rush of memories for Peter."
Er...no. She thought to herself that Matt should get out of her head. Matt heard it because HE can read minds. Your logic works to say that EVERY character Matt has ever heard the thoughts of, can read minds.
Peter just started to remember. It was brought on by seeing his Mom. Again, not sure why you drew the conclusion you did.
Ri | Nov 5, 2007 9:21:09 PM | #Not to toot my own horn or anything, but...toot, toot. LOL. I called the Kensei as the one being responsible for the murders almost a month ago (or maybe it has been a month) and felt very vindicated with the reveal.
Other than that, solid ep. I am more convinced than ever that West is evil. The kid thinks that rules don't apply to him and, with his connection to HRG, it seems inevitable that he will be bad.
I personally liked the Hiro storyline overall, but am happy that he is back in the present. His humor with Ando has been sorely missed.
I also missed Molly and am glad Matt finally saved her. And I still say that Peter's mom did not speak telepathically to Matt. She just knew he was reading her mind and responded accordingly. I don't know about Peter's memories, though. I kinda thought he was just having flashes because he was with his mom, but I guess it could be power related.
As for Peter and Caitlin, I say it sucks to be her. In a future where you are in quarantine? It's gonna be interesting to see if the future changes around her though when they inevitably stop this newest apocalypse.
I can't see HRG's death coming to pass, but I thought I read that there was a big death coming up. I kinda think it could be Nikki based on the fact that she really does not seem as though she fits in. I could be wrong, tho.
Travis | Nov 5, 2007 9:25:42 PM | #Rick: I'm satisfied that Hiro's Kensei past came to a close finally. Although I still feel that the English Kensei = Monroe twist was a bit of a let down after having surmised it a couple of weeks ago (which so has the majority of people).
Angela's power causing Peter to remember? In my opinion, I didn't really see it that way. I just figured that she just said something that emotionally triggered Peter's memories, like any close loved one could do. You know, like love heals all memory loss kinda thing. Am I making sense? I think the jury's still out on whether or not she has a power.
When Matt was questioning her, I figured that she was thinking to herself, and Matt said a word she was thinking. Revenge or jealous was the word, can't really remember. Anyways, I think she is a smart woman who has seen a lot of weird things, so her being able to figure out that Matt could read minds from that one clue is plausible. So her best defense was to "yell" in her mind to try and hurt Matt's brain.
I still don't get why Bennett won't just admit the truth to his family. Didn't he learn this in the first season? I'm sure Claire would change her mind about West if Bennett showed her the pictures of the paintings he took...
I loved how the writers left Caitlin in the future! Ha~!
gus | Nov 5, 2007 9:32:29 PM | #Is anyone else immensely annoyed by Mohinder's reveal of him working with Bennett to Bob? Uber annoying!
gus | Nov 5, 2007 9:36:43 PM | #I find it amazing how low the bar is for this show for fans to like an episode. Seriously, look at Adam's motivation... he saw the girl he liked kissing another guy 300 years ago and he is holding such a grudge that he is out to end the human race. Peter just happens to remember relevant parts when he meets his mother in the future and just happens to blink back into the past just as Caitlyn was taken. Mohinder's blood conveniently just happens to stop being the cure without any explanation. Not to mention Mohinder is just a plot device of writers not a real character, there is absolutely no consistency in his actions. He spills the beans to Bob eventhough it makes no logical sense considering he had no idea of knowing the context of H.R.G's actions and he is now putting everything he has in Company's basket but as late as last episode he hated them with his guts. The writers just use him manipulate the story the way they want without any real motivation behind his actions. The whole virus storyline just feels like Season 1 replay with copying X-Men Legacy virus and 28 days later.
D.S | Nov 5, 2007 9:39:40 PM | #Best ep of the season for me so far. This felt like non stop action. They juggled the different stories very well tonight. The right amount of each.
Coming up, looks like we'll get to the missing 4 months we've been waiting for.
I have the feeling that Bob wants Claire so he can experiment on a virus strain that can overcome her regenerative powers to use against the similarly powered Adam. Not to save Nikki as he tells Suresh.
Did miss Sylar, didn't miss the twins.
Re Momma P: If she has the telepathic powers like Parkman, why did she let Maury into her head at the Police Station? She knew what Parkman can do and thought for him to get out of her head. She knows Peter can do the same and probably thought of the memories for him to see. I'm sure she has a power, but don't think its been revealed. Peter should have a power he doesn't know about that he's absorbed from her.
The way they built up Maury as this powerful evil force that tormented Molly, he didn't last too long as a threat.
Finally agree with Gus, great job leaving Caitlin in the future!
anonymus49 | Nov 5, 2007 10:02:49 PM | #Actually, Peter can read minds (he rediscovered this ability when finding out one of the goons was gonna backstab the group after a robbery in an earlier episode). His mom started thinking about everything that she knows about Peter's life, and Peter read her mind. Thats why all of the memories that he was seeing of the past all involved his mother.
Abdul | Nov 5, 2007 10:03:22 PM | #So, is it safe to say that it's all Hiro's fault? lol.
I'd be glad to see HGR go, but unfortunately it seems more likely that it'll be Nikki.
Poor Caitlin.
Abdul: That's an interesting way of putting it!
gus | Nov 6, 2007 1:29:19 AM | #Re: the virus plot, just as long as they don't touch Nathan, I'll be fine with it. Adrian Pasdar is one hot and talented actor. I can't believe that he doesn't get more exposure in the media.
Winifried | Nov 6, 2007 1:59:59 AM | #Right. If HRG dies, I go. Easy as that.
Emma | Nov 6, 2007 5:20:27 AM | #let me see...So now from Matt and his father's abilities it seems safe to say that traits can be inherited. Then West will be Nathan's son. And Claire is daughter of Adam and the woman who can raise fire with bare hands.
My guess about Adam is that he is actually a modern guy, maybe from the generation of Hiro's father. But somehow in future he is transported into the past (by Peter?) before his memories get wiped out.
This might explain why he called himself Kensei, because someone told him he is Kensei, after he lost his memories.
tytung | Nov 6, 2007 5:24:40 AM | #I think anonymus49 is correct in saying that Bob wants Claire so he can be rid of Adam.
Rose | Nov 6, 2007 5:58:05 AM | #Good episode, but it should have happened a freaking month ago! There was no need to stretch this Hiro storyline out any longer than that because as soon as they showed Kensei/Adam could heal, i figured he was going to be practically immortal, although at first i thought it was going to be Sulu before they revealed him to be a white guy instead. Also, i don't like having to wait two months to find out what happened after Peter went nuclear. Also, i don't like them killing Nikki, although i could see the writing on the wall early on. Maybe now they'll finally get rolling and quit wasting time! Although with writers' strike, that may cause a problem down the road.
steve | Nov 6, 2007 6:15:41 AM | #Interesting idea about Peter's mind-reading ability, Abdul. I think I like it better than mine.
I think I was just looking for Angela to have some kind of power. Among the elders in the photo we've met, we've only seen Linderman and Maury actually use a power (and possibly Charles Deveaux inserting himself into Peter's dream last season, though even that's ambiguous).
Rick | Nov 6, 2007 6:15:57 AM | #wait... i'm confused...
is monroe a good guy or a bad guy? the virus isn't really his fault, is it? i was under the impression that he's been locked up for awhile while the company follows their own agenda... (e.g.blow up the world, develop the virus... etc etc) wasn't that note he left in montreal for peter implying that they need to SAVE the world?
i guess we'll find out more next week
P.S. what's sylar's role in all this??
JC | Nov 6, 2007 6:16:02 AM | #It's already been said, but it was so dumb I also must comment. Ma Petrelli was not communicating telepathically, nor did she "induce a rush of memories". Sheesh. Who wrote this? Ma's got some power, that is for sure, but I think they're waiting for some perfect, kick-A moment to release it.
In all the memories though, you'd think that Ma would have... looked younger at some point. The hairstyles were the only change made. At least shoot her through the Barbara Streisand Vaseline Lens.
| Nov 6, 2007 6:27:56 AM | #I agree that Mama Petrelli's power has not yet been shown, but I think we can all agree that the founding members of the company all had powers, they just haven't all been shown yet.
Strange that Parkman and his father have similar abilities, yet Claire and Nathan don't and the Petrelli brothers aren't the same and Miki is nothing like his parents, who both had physical abilities, where his is mental.
Oh and HRG had better not die. I would like to see the end of West though. I keep waiting for him to be more than just another annoying teenage boy, but he never is.
I can't wait to see Kristen Bell back next week!
Hiro's story was a bad chambara flick. It fits well into the story, but it was still a bad sword fighting stint with Adam/Kensei filling up with venom so quickly. And Hiro's basic kendo training ("Face! Face! Face! Face!") was a little awkward to watch.
Adam/Kensei appearing the same as he was 400 years ago is just like Claire not aging in last season's Future Imperfect. See, that's what regenerative abilities do to you. (That, and prevent you from getting drunk; though Wolverine can get fat and slovenly...)
When was the first time the Shanti Virus was diagnosed? March 2007 they said?
pakopako | Nov 6, 2007 7:18:52 AM | #Wow, a lot of people seem to be really unhappy with Heroes. You should probably stop watching the show then. That'll show them.
I liked this episode. I think Niki is not long for this world also. There really hasn't been much use for a She-Hulk this season.
Siansonea | Nov 6, 2007 7:51:31 AM | #Who says the painting of Hiro and Adam sword fighting is from the past. Don't you think they will meet again. Let's be honest, if Hiro is the cause of Adam turning bad then the finale of this season has to be them fighting one last time. HRG said the paintings were out of order and he didn't know how they should go.
EddieO | Nov 6, 2007 7:54:55 AM | #I am glad to see the wheels finally making traction, and I agree it had a little to do with the deletion of the Sylar and Nawlins storylines, and a pace pickup to the Kensei plot.
I am disappointed that most of the "whoa!" moments aren't as good as last season. (Sylar as Nathan reveal, anyone?) In fact, the Kensei is Monroe was practically telegraphed. Some of it might be the plotting slow burn, but what if Kensei was Mr. Petrelli?
I think the plot might be leading to the unusual save from someone. For instance, what if Sylar steals Alejandro's ability, and it turns out he can "heal" the virus? He'd be special like he wanted, and it would justify giving him such a chunk of screen time.
Maybe Sylar takes out Kensei and finally gains the regenerative power needed to restore the season one future? Maybe Kaito's death, not the NYC bomb was the real reason for the badass turn in Future Hiro...
It's more fun to guess, IMO.
Casper | Nov 6, 2007 8:13:27 AM | #blah. blah, blah, its a shame this show has become a joke.
ralph | Nov 6, 2007 8:14:05 AM | #If I'm not mistaken, the Company of 12 was created in the first place because all of them had some sort of power, no? Also, nobody seems to have mentioned that the Petrelli father's face in the picture was turned sideways and you couldn't really see whay he looks like... wonder who he really is?
And ot looks like from next week's preview that Elle's daddy is Bob...
actuary44 | Nov 6, 2007 8:45:11 AM | #Abdul seems like he hit the nail on the head about Mrs. Petrelli. She just projected her thoughts into Matt and Peters mind because she knows their powers. Her actual power I believe is dreaming about the future. This was Peters very first power we seen in the first episode of Heroes Season 1 so I believe he got it from her.
Greg | Nov 6, 2007 9:05:14 AM | #i hope elle's daddy isn't Bob. That's no fun; no big reveal.
This episode was really good and yes i was shocked. Not totally because like all of you i had a hunch. I guess that means Claire is going to live forever too. I wonder why Adam will be this bad. I mean he only knew that princess girl for like a few months. This guy needs some serious therapy.
That sword fight at the end is so Star Wars haha... get out of the dark side!!!
I don't want HRG to die but I dont' want Suresh to die. Sheesh. That was cool when they revealed the bandage on his nose, you know what's going to happen.
I don't trust Bob... I still can't be for the Company, but I don't want to be for Adam either. I'm torn. I hope Peter makes the right decision. He has too much power to pick the wrong side.
leslie | Nov 6, 2007 9:09:16 AM | #Why do we have to wait until sweeps for a good episode? Do we have to wait until Feb. for another?
Josie | Nov 6, 2007 9:23:08 AM | #
What I find odd, is the 'Company' the people behind the Paper Co. and HRG at first seemed to be mostly normal humans, who knew about those with Powers and wanted to control the dangerous ones. HRG and his boss Julia Roberts brother were both human and those with Powers, the Haitian and Claude seemed to be on the lower end of management. Yet, now the 'Company' is controlled by people with Powers, first linderman and now Bob.
The strike might cause problems, but whose to say that Adam will be this seasons Big Bad. He might have mellowed over the centuries; and actually brought together the other specials to help save the world. Linderman and the others got greedy and imprisoned Adam. Now free Adam wants to take down the company he created.
Now that Peter has been around Adam, is Peter immortal also and is Claire immortal also. If Peter gets hurt does Adam abilities and Claire's fight it out to be the one that heals him.
jbw | Nov 6, 2007 9:29:11 AM | #This show is sucking rather bad this year. Is Joss Whedon the only show runner around who knows how to tell a fantasy story and keep you more interested in the characters than the special effects?
If it wasn't for your re-caps I would have no idea what the hell was going on on this show. Too many characters involved in stupid plots. Thanks for clearing up the mess. The only story that was working this year, the Peter/Kaitlin story is now also a mess. Was Mama Petrelli feeding Peter lies?
This show is no good no more.
Brian | Nov 6, 2007 9:32:18 AM | #For one I think Elle is Adam/Kensei's daughter.
Secondly who says his name was always Adam Monroe? Someone who lives that long with their body in it's mid 20's would have to change their name about every 20-30 years or live in hiding.
Ryan | Nov 6, 2007 10:43:11 AM | #If I am sure of only one thing, it is that HRG will not be the one to die. The virus is just a vehicle; what this season is really about is who is good and who is evil.
To put it another way, is The Company trying to save the world by neutralizing Supers who have turned bad, or is The Comapny trying to destroy or use the Supers for its own evil purposes? We really have no idea at this point. And who is the one character who is unequivocally opposed to The Company? HRG.
I'd like to hear what others think: Is The Company good or evil?
Tony | Nov 6, 2007 10:55:44 AM | #Now that Caitlin is in the future it will give her plenty of time to work on that horrible Irish accent she's been attempting.
flapper | Nov 6, 2007 11:31:34 AM | #I feel the same way about the possibility of HRG dying.(Why do we still call him HRG? The man has a name :) )
If HRG dies, I won't watch Heroes anymore. Tim Kring told us that fans made HRG a regular. So why kill him?
His episode, Company Man, is still the best episode of the series. So don't kill HRG!!! Maybe he can give you another great episode! Right now. you don't have them...
wow | Nov 6, 2007 11:44:00 AM | #Ok, Here is what some of my friends and I have come up with...
Hiro's Dad was killed by Matt's dad, using the Jedi Mind trick thing on him or the kid that Claire is hooking up with that can fly - Notice that when Ando looked over the edge there was nobody there with Hiro's dad?
If Adam can't die then does that make Claire a distant relative of him, but then Nathan is suppose to be her dad so then does that make the new kid that can fly a relative of Nathan since he can fly too? YUCK - Claire is kissing her cousin of some kind?
Momma Petrelli has the ability to learn new languages rather fast. When she first met Claire she told her she knew alot of languages.
We know from BOB that Peter must of set Adam free before the "COmpany" took Peter to Ireland. HOW...Because Bob told Nathan that Peter was alive 2-3 months ago and that is when Adam escaped.
We have more thoughts about it all, but we do know this much... Business has just picked up in the land of Heroes......
amazingly, i think d.s. is right, waaay up above, about the bar being so low for the fans of this show. every point he makes is totally right on.
in fact, i immediately popped over here after watching the ep, cause i was totally out done with kensei's reveal as adam...and after adam had only just been mentioned in this ep! aren't i right? we haven't heard of an adam before now, have we?
still with all the inconsistency, telegraphing, and slow movement of stories (like hiro's & the twins), i can't help but love this show. it must be the characters by now. i'm so involved with them i almost don't care that the plotting is a bit sloppy this year. i just hope it doesn't get any worse.
KR | Nov 6, 2007 12:19:15 PM | #
@Gus and Abdul
Both of your theories are interesting. The way they shot the scene it's hard to tell which way it happened. Mama Petrelli specific powers have never been addressed. I always thought it was some kind of Crystal Ball kind of ability.
It's hard to tell about Bob. Sometimes he seems to be righteous and others not so much. As to Suresh I do have to agree with some on here. The character needs more depth. I've never really understood why he wants to take down the company. It would have seemed better for him to learn its history and then go from there. In my mind Suresh should be more like a Doctor X character.
As to HRG I thought it was funny he said that Claire's actions has endangered the family. I was thinking the same thing about his actions. And West reaction to HRG seems strange since he's been stocking Claire (as some here believe). Maybe some are right he was tagged by HRG.
As to the Matt's Dad mind battle not really much. Now we (and Matt) know how far he can take his power.
I agree that Hiro's story would have been better if they had focus on it more for an episode or two. The conclusion to it was good. So far.
As to the Kensei/Adam Monroe reveal it only felt shallow because so many had revealed on sites like this. Even though Adam/Kensei can regenerate like Claire is he/her always stuck forever to look like they do when they discover they have this ability? I mean they won't age a bit ev3en slowly. If I was Kensei/Adam I would have gotten involved in some kind of Cosmetic or Pharmaceutical Company in the 20 century or something.
I heard the Hereos "Origin" Series has been shelved for now. Has anyone heard anything about that?
Maybe Syslar is the one that starts the virus.
I would be very pissed off if HRG dies. I can only see 3 possibilities:
1) Suresh shoots him.
2) Suresh shoots him, but we find out later it was fake (Parkman, Peter and Nathan, anyone?)
3) Sylar regains control of his abilities and since he stole Candice's power, he can make illusions, and somehow/some way ends up creating the illusion of a dead HRG, thus making the painting still technically accurate.
Let's get rid of HRG/Noah. He's annoying and boring. Also, he's exactly the same as in season one, despite nearly losing Claire. Die HRG die!!!! Ha!
gus | Nov 6, 2007 12:38:32 PM | #At least this arc will be finished (or so they say) before the writers strike starts to eat into episodes. Half of the problem with Heroes this season is they've left too many plotlines dangling over too many episodes, which means those of us who aren't passionate about the show (but merely like it) to go back and figure out who's doing what, where and when. If the writers strike had started earlier, we might've been left with something akin to The Empire Strikes Back ending with Darth Vader saying, "Luke, I am your...", fade to black, roll credits. While I agree that there are too many characters to deal with effectively, I think bringing on new blood is what will keep a show like this going in the long run, but only if they let other characters' story arcs run their time and then write them out of the show. Claire is of no further interest to me until and unless they give a damn good reason why she's still around (other than to piss off her already-tense-enough-thank-you-very-much father). There are really only two characters that need to stay on for the show's entire run, and that is Mohinder (as the voice of reason, normalcy, etc) and HRG, the latter only to make everybody else on the show nervous. Iffy season so far, what with the "let's do more damage to New York" retread, the presence of too many needless characters and Hiro's endless jaunt into the past. On that note, kudos to the actors playing Hiro and Ando for their scene together, particularly when Ando had to reveal to Hiro about his father's murder. One of the few bright spots in the episode.
Dark Disciple | Nov 6, 2007 12:49:37 PM | #Welcome everyone to "Pick on Season 2: Heroes Edition". Happens with every popular show during its second season--what, you all thought your cynicism was unique or something?
Also, to all of you "if HRG goes I go" people out there, let me get this straight...ONE character is your ONLY reason for watching the show? In other words, for 55 minutes out of the hour you're miserable? Why would you watch a show if all you liked about it was one thing? You're either quite dumb or you like more about the show than you want to admit...come on, you can tell me; I won't ruin your superior facade by telling people you actually like something.
Max | Nov 6, 2007 12:58:30 PM | #Heroes this season seems to be struggling to find its momentum. Its as if the writers don't know where they want to go themselves. Some characters are overused (Peter, and Claire) while some are underused (Nikkie and Parkman). Having us wait so long to find out what happened after seaon 1 dilutes the interest of show. We should have found out sooner. If Heroes doesn't come together soon it may be in trouble. It shouldn't always have to revolve around one "big" villian or plot.
Jorge | Nov 6, 2007 2:16:10 PM | #How come no one has mentioned the power mix-ups of Adam's character. When Bob was telling Matt and Nathan about Adam he had power over the weather (Snowing in Miami), and now we find out he is Kensi, with healing factor. Could it be that maybe Kensi really isn't Adam
but just pretending to be?

Sometimes a character means a lot for a TV series. In this case I must agree, HRG is an important character. If he goes, what will we have? More people with different powers? Come on, Heroes will always need someone like HRG. HRG boring? You must be kiddin, some fans still can't decide if he is an evil murderer or just a father caring too much for his daughter. (he doesn't really care about his wife and his real son, don't you think? now, that's weird...)
ert | Nov 6, 2007 4:02:07 PM | #Mohinder seriously needs to die...or at least get a clue. He constantly is helping the bad guys & doesn't seem to spend much time helping the good side. I can't get into this show, more than a few minutes per episode. Not as fun as Season 1. Guess I'm losing interest.

Scotty B. | Nov 6, 2007 6:28:19 PM | #I agree that HRG is an interesting character. He's just as vital as the other actual Heroes, even without powers. But I feel his actions don't make sense this season. He lies, hides, and is "morally gray" because he wants to save his daughter in season 1. And I really thought in the end of season 1 he realized that his approach is all wrong. So what does he do in season 2? He lies, hides, and is "morally gray" to continue to save his daughter?
Uhhh ok. I want to like him, but can the writers make him do other things than lie to his family? I think this actually started when he told his boss "I will take a break whenever I want," which I though was self-righteous of him to say. I know, I'm being nitpicky.
I think HRG and Mohinder are the 2 characters I could care less about now that we are so deep in season 2. And maybe Hiro. And Claire. Wait, add Sylar to that. Basically just keep the twins, Matt, Nathan, Elle, not Peter (forgot about him), Monica, and Micah.
Speaking of Nathan, I love how he has totally become the common sensed character of the show! THANK GOD! Some of these people need a smack down of common sense...I'm looking at you Mohinder and HRG.
gus | Nov 6, 2007 10:10:12 PM | #Hmm you know who's power would really battle that virus...oh ya they killed him, Linderman. Hmm maybe he has offspring...
GaribalDi | Nov 6, 2007 11:23:46 PM | #All season I've wondered how on earth the twins power could be useful...other than as psychos, which may be a speed bump on their horizons but not career choices. I'm guessing they will learn to control their ability to the point of being able to kill the virus but not the hosts.
GaribalDi | Nov 6, 2007 11:43:26 PM | #You can't change who you are so you can't expect HRG to change himself. He is a murderer, he will always be one. Because of that his actions make sense, he is the same guy from season 1, a loving father and a cold blooded murderer.
ert | Nov 7, 2007 12:56:50 AM | #heroes is down another 660,000 viewers. Continuing its sophmoric slump. At this rate, it will be cancelled by the end of the season. It was good until Seadson 2 began.
rickyers | Nov 7, 2007 7:38:56 AM | #Well, I think Heroes so far totally Rocks!
Scenario is the best ever, for me it's the best series ever developed.
And I also think that Adam still has a granch on Hiro (and the world for that matter) after all these years.
When Hiro and Adam finished their sword fight, Adam said: "as long as I live, anything you love, I'll turn to waste"
and Adam knows that Hiro loves all people and the world because he was trying to convince him to save the world and History all the time.
I also think that Adam prob has developed the same or similar powers as Psyler and Peter because Bob said that Adam has God like powers or feels like a God.
And whatever happens with Psyler anyway???
He's not finished in my opinion, he can still feel the clock ticking inside the head of ppl with special powers so perhaps he'll get his powers back too and have some major role to play in all this.
btw, something doesnt make sense to me.
Why does Adam "stay" at his current age?
I mean he did grow old enough to be in his mid 20's in the samurai era, so what made him stop getting older?
This is even more confusing if he is related to Claire, (who is also growing up).
I think the series still has a lot of surprises.
Perhaps Adam is growing older and he didn't live 400 years but rather he absorped Hiro's ability and he travelled in time when we saw him talking to Peter in the future...
English Kensei manifested his powers for the first time when he was killed in front of Hiro. So they triggered on for the first time then - hence him staying in his age during the ancient Japan.
gus | Nov 7, 2007 1:01:13 PM | #Why would Hiro teleport to just outside of the tent where the guns were stored - woudlnt it be less risky to teleport into the tent? I guess it gave the viewer a moment to consider what was behind the burlap curtain but really if he wanted max efficiency he'd just drop int
tiki | Nov 8, 2007 7:43:02 AM | #Some responses: Adam and Claire will both age to a point. Just because you heal doesn't mean that you don't stop maturing. My take on Adam and Claire's powers is that they would age until their body reached it's "peak". Presuming that their regeneration was essentially infinite/without bound, then they would effectively be immortal.
In terms of Bob'd mention of Adam's powers controlling the weather --- I actually interpreted that as Bob mentioning one of Adam's ideas and leveraging a heretofore unrevealed Hero with the power to control weather. (i.e. "Tornado Boy! Go start a storm!")
As far as the Petrellis and their relation to Adam/Kensei, while it would be interesting to apply the theory of heredity based powers and question the parentage of West, Claire vs. the Petrelli clan, I think it's just coincidence at this point. After watching the 11/11 episode "Four Months Ago", I'm actually hoping that Adam really is the good guy and that Bob is the psycho. If Elle is actually his daughter, then it doesn't seem like Bob's ability to balance morality and good behavior worked out so well for his kid who was apparently imprisoned in a glass cage and injected with lithium, likely abused, blah blah...
Hope the writer's strike resolves soon and that Episode 11/18 is good. Was really sad to see DL caught slipping like that. In a way, annoyingly realistic given that his powers would probably give him some false confidence in dealing with normal people. Would've preferred to see a Jessica beat down when he got shot though...
