When 'Ugly Betty' met Gio

Freddyrodriguez_sagawards04_240 Ugly Betty is finally getting good since our perky little Mode assistant is starting to show some life now that there's a new man in her life.

Spoilers are in fashion below.

Poor Henry is getting over the shock of Charlie's infidelity and is finally angry enough to do something about it. Marc and Amanda run into his line of fire when he goes on a tirade about his honorable Dutch name Grubstick and are blown away by his sudden, alpha male hotness. ("I've never been more attracted to someone in my life.")

Alas, this fire might not win him the fair Betty because the new sandwich guy Gio (Freddy Rodriguez) with big dreams is giving her pause. His culinary integrity causes him to deny her superfluous sun-dried tomatoes and this antagonism extends to other arenas when he questions her ambitions to run her own magazine when she hasn't even written any articles lately. Finally, he inspires her to use her creativity (and knowledge of Casino Royale) and pursue writing during lunchtime.

Although they seem to have chemistry, how grating was the "Quack" and "Woof" fight? This romance may be more annoying than adorable.

Markindelicato2_uglybetty_s2_240 Meanwhile, Daniel has been playing lame so he can score with his physical therapist, but Justin catches him in his lie during a basketball lesson. I grow to love Justin more each episode. His two-handed dribble and over-the-shoulder fling-shot were just awesomely bad. And once again, Justin provided the one "awww" sweet moment of the episode when he bonds with Daniel.

Not having to bond with Daniel is Amanda, who discovers that Bradford isn't her dad (and therefore no icky incest stuff with Dannyboy). She and gayfriend Marc scheme to use Fay's reputation to make her a no-talent celebrity. On her nude red carpet detour, however, she realizes that trying to track down her father is still more important to her than fame. Thus, the MarcManda sleuthing team lives on.

Wilhelmina has decided to convince Alexis that Bradford is heartsick from postponing the wedding out of deference to her. Claire, however, has decided to crash the ball in order to undermine Wil, but is outmaneuvered yet again. Oh yeah, Ignacio faces down his old nemesis, his dead wife's abusive real husband, and somehow made it back alive to the Suarez household. Or so we think.

Beckinewton2_uglybetty_s2_240 The writers were in fine form tonight. Here's a sampling of stuff that elicited a giggle:

- Daniel and Amanda kissing after discovering they're not related: "Nothing taboo here."
- RE: Henry's double-knotted laces: "I worry about tripping."
- RE: The charitable Black & White Ball: "The clothes will be fabulous, and the kids will be sick!"
- Marc refers to Alexis as Bradford's "tranesiac daughter."
- The fictional SoCuteIt'sSick.com, a tribute, no doubt to my de-stressor website of choice, CuteOverload.com
- Gio's "There's no such thing as fat-free mayo" revelation.
- Wil and Alexis photoshopped together square-dancing, courtesy of Marc.
- Amanda's Daddy Warbucks fantasy
- Claire assuring Bradford that her fellow prison escapee isn't her lover: "It's not what you think. Well, almost once."

LOL screw henry she needs to go with GIO!! he

s hot and into her, it's obvious! and she is starting to get into him now, chasing after him, trying so hard to get him a job and prove him wrong. I've seen it before. I hope her and Gio get together! that'd rock!

So far, the second season has been just as great as the first! Amanda and Marc getting turned on by Henry was cl***ic. The show just keeps getting better and better.

It's great to see Freddy Rodriguez again... hope he becomes a regular.

Ugly Betty is now my absolute favorite! The writing is clever and the acting superb.

Great episode compared to the downers that the first couple were. I kinda like Gio over Henry, if only because of the "fat-free-mayo" speech, which is far and gone one of the best F-U departures of the season. I agree that the woof-and-quack fight was about 12.6 seconds too long (it was 13 seconds in toto, pun intended, woof), but it established a rapport between the two that will make Henry's and Betty's aw-gee romance seem less-than-grand. Betty needs somebody to liven up her life, even if it is just as a really great friend that is not female. My Justin patience limit is nearing its end, however; one more episode of him "bonding" with somebody (who's next, the dog from hell?), and I shall likely puke. I do like the character of Justin, but they need to get him back to what he does best. Oh, and did I see him kissing A GIRL in the previews for next week? It was a split-second shot, so I might be mistaken, but that should shake up the Mode bods a bit. And I am so, so glad that Papi is back in the house. Even though the 24-style split screen (with a telenova, no less, in screen three) was cool, he needs to be home with his girls. So, all is right in the world, and I can't wait to see how Claire is going to stick it to Wil now. I predict blood. Lots of blood...

This show just keeps getting better and better. Where'd they come up with such a perfect foil to Betty as Gio? He's everything Henry isn't -- from the 'hood, challenging Betty to pursue her dreams. Henry and Betty are cute to the max, but Betty and Gio, I could actually see as a real couple.

I just love 'Ugly Betty.' America Ferrerra is the perfect actress for this. I loved her in 'Sisterhood of the Travelin' pants' and I love her in 'Ugly Betty.' I think Betty and Henry are so cute and it is sooo romantic. I like the twist with Geo for the show, but I do hope that Betty and Henry wind up as the couple. And Justin, I so want his character to be further developed in the show. I was hoping that Betty does move into writing, and then Justin can be the new ***istant to the editor. And I hope Papi coming back was not a dream or remembrance sequence as he needs to be on the show. He is the one who keeps his daughters grounded. And Betty's sister is a must for the show she is great! I loved her character on the show 'That's Life' with Heather Paige Kent. I wish that show was back as well, it was great! Great show, 'Ugly Betty.' Keep up the great writing!!!!

TOTAL agreement. This season is looking to be even better than the last!

It was not a dream nor a hoax, Betty and her sister were talking about "real time" incidents when Papi came through the door.

And - yes! - Justin indeed had a girl on top of him.

It was the same young actress that played a lying angelic-faced girl who escaped being married to the old prophet in HBO's Big Love.

LOVE Ugly Betty!

Gio has been claimed to be Betty's new love. here http://ugly-betty.spoilerbuzz.com/

"Looks like Ugly Betty and Henry won't be together for long when the new season begins. Producers have hunted up a new love interest for Betty. He will be a twenty-something character named Gio, and he is a sandwich cart boy at the magazine. According to Ausiello, "He's described in the script as "ambitious, aggressive and lovable," and it sounds like he'll be sticking around all season."

Sorry to all you Betty and Henry shippers out there."

Persoanlly I am glad and hope it is the truth! Henery and Betty are too much alike and the way they are acting, they will not get anywhere. Gio is the oppsite of Henry and Betty, but he and Betty both have ambitions. Betty is too laid back but Gio is outgoing, they can help each other succeed. They are more of a possable couple than Henry and Betty. Sorry Henry betty fans but Gio and Betty look more likely to happen.

While I thought the fat-free mayo rant was awesome and Gio produced a few other laughs, I think he would get very annoying in the long run. Plus I heart Henry and he and Betty belong together!
