A lot has happened in a short time on Moonlight. Mick revealed himself as a vampire to Beth and last week he even ended up having to feed from her (hot) after wandering through the desert (also hot, but in a completely different way). The show has been slowly reaching its stride and I'm starting to feel pretty optimistic about its progress.  The episode tonight had less inconsistencies then ever, and another fantastic ending.

It starts with Josh and Beth running into Mick at a doctor's office, where she was getting a blood test to make sure she didn't have tetanus form the chain link fence she injured her arm on. At least, that's the story Josh got. We know better. Josh invites Mick to their house for a party celebrating their one year anniversary and Mick predictably begs off. Who could blame him? Elsewhere a mysterious guy in some shadows peruses an online escort service, picks a girl and calls her, making a date. He goes to meet her and she takes one look at him and says "No, Honey, I just can't."  We know he's the bad guy when he doesn't take no for an answer. Mick, on the other hand, says yes to two parents from a rural town hoping to find their daughter. She hasn't been answering their calls and they found out she works as an escort. The next day, Beth is at the scene of a crime, as per usual. At the escorts house, in fact. All our tumblers are falling into place!

At their anniversary party that night, Beth gets a phone call and tells her party she has to leave to go to the morgue. I would have asked if the party was that bad, but Josh is far more understanding - in front of guests. Outside the apartment, he tells her she is being rude and that it is suspect that "he" calls and she comes running. The he in question is Mick St. John, of course. The only problem is, it wasn't Mick on the phone. Thus, we know Josh's spider-sense has been tingling. Beth tells him it was just a contact and that now is not  the time to talk about Mick. Josh tells her to take her time at the morgue. Ouch. Beth's contact gives her a look at the body of the dead escort, but a moment later she has to duck into a office when her contact's boss shows up. With Mick, who has brought the parents to identify the body. Which, they are relieved to discover, is not their daughter, but her former roommate. Mick sniffs Beth out and confirms for her that the bad guy is a vampire while she accuses him of avoiding her. He reminds her she has a party to get back to and she reminds him that she fed him. Touche!

One of the more interesting segments of the episode involved Beth meeting Josef and Ryder - the hacker who had been tracing the phone calls to the escort service to help Mick find the girl. They use Beth as a vocal decoy, calling all the numbers who had called the service in the previous 24 hours to try to find the guy. While the premise is specious because Josef has had plenty of other women around in the past, it allows for some great dialog as Beth does her best to impersonate a call girl. Especially when she tells Mick she can do "whatever you want" in a seductive tone, causing even Josef to do a double take. Soon enough they find their bad guy when he mistakes Beth for Cherish and asks if they are still on for tomorrow at Greenies and they go to his apartment. They knock, but when there is no answer, Mick picks the lock and gingerly steps over the threshold. To be jumped by cops and FBI agents who were lying in wait. Them getting busted by the cops reveals two important bits of data: the profilers are way off in looking for a 40 year old man (he's actually 197 ... and a half) and Beth is a thief. She takes a day planner form the apartment, discovering in the car that it belonged to the dead escort.

In the planner is a picture of the dead escort and the former farm-girl Mick is looking for. And written on the back of this picture is a phone number. They call, but Cherish doesn't answer - she's already on her date with the creepy teen vampire and he ordered her not to pick it up. As Mick and Beth rush to Greenies, she asks him "How does it work - the sex thing?", specifying of the vampire/human variety. You know, chit chat! Mick manages not to choke and to act like he believes her when she swears she only means it hypothetically, and tells her that it doesn't work, it always ends badly. There are many naughty things I could say here about sex ending badly, but I am going to try and rise above the urge. Or sit on my hands.

Our action sequence is memorable and spans the entire day. They arrive at Greenies at mid afternoon, and manage to chase the vampire and Cherish onto the pier where they eventually get her away from him, but lose him. He's hiding under the pier and comes back out once it's dark and everyone has left for the day. Everyone except Mick, who turns the carnival lights back on while calling out to our wayward teen, telling him he's been where he is. Which is weird when you think about it, since the teen is actually older then Mick. I guess being trapped at puberty forever means you never reach emotional maturity, just like you never outgrow acne. That is an eternal hell. This is where the biggest inconsistency came in: it looks like Mick flies up to land on the tracks of a roller coaster - something we were told he couldn't do. At the very least, it is an inhuman leap. He is joined on the tracks by the teen vampire and they fight while the train barrels down on them.  The teen manages to get in some decent jabs, including a big bloody bite from Mick, but in the end, he gets trapped on the tracks and ends up decapitated by the train.

The show ends with Beth helping Mick reunite Cherish with her parents and refusing to take photos for her editor to publish. Mick does his usual disappearing act, but she runs after him. As luck would have it, he's been delayed from his usual hasty escape by having dropped his keys, so she manages to catch up to him. She accuses him of leaving without saying good bye, but he's barely gotten out a "good" before she's planting a kiss on him. The moment is shocking and there is no way I can write about it in a way that is as cool as it was, so you will just have to take my word for it. It was awesome. So was the little grin Mick flashed as Beth walked away. How lame am I for being jealous?

What did the rest of you think of tonight's episode? How come Beth doesn't get arrested every time she crosses the police tape? Can her contact on the force really protect her that well?  What was with the flying? Oh yeah, and what about THE KISS?!

All I can say is that the show was awesome tonight. It just gets better and better. Some people will say the series is moving too fast, but I love it! I hope CBS keeps this one around for a long time.

I LOVED tonight's episode. It was just perfect.

Josef's rather predatory behavior when Beth arrived was quite funny, as Mick kept putting himself between them.

I liked that the kiss wasn't drawn out through the season. Relationship angst got old a long time ago.

It's going to be a lot of fun watching their relationship grow.

I didn't think Mick flew; merely jumped very high. As vamps have superhuman strength, that would extend to all their limbs and doesn't seem out of context.
Regarding Beth and the cops - I thought they'd established earlier that she's given the police leads that have helped solve some major cases. I assume that's why she's been given some leeway to interfer without being arrested. Who knows how long this will last?

Anyway, I think Moonlight is improving much faster than I thought it would, and I'm really happy it seems to be finding its groove fairly rapidly. And that kiss? Amazing!

And then ending...sigh...you could hear MILLIONS of women screaming OMG - it was THAT incredible.

Oh my Mick! She kissed him. She kissed him. And…He liked it!!!

I’m grinning like a Cheshire cat!!! What a great episode. Humor. Action. Drama. And. She kissed him! *weeeeeeeeeee*

New Rules:

When did Frodo become a vampire? No offense to the actor who really sold the role. But dear gawd, every time he came on screen I was expecting him to grab the “escort” and say; “My precious!”

Mick said he didn’t fly like Superman, but he can leap onto a roller coaster…in a single bound. The fight between Frodo and Mick was too cool. Bravo to the stunt team.

According to Mick sex between a human and a vampire ends badly. As opposed to some humans who have kids when their kids. End up in a double wide and have their family events aired on Cops.

Mick maybe a vampire but I’m really digging his chivalry. Opening the door for Beth. Making sure he’s between her and possible danger.

I just wanted to give my first impressions. I’m sure there’s more but I’m just too giddy from The Kiss!

Fate? Yes is a devilish thing. Had I known that watching Moonlight would have affected me so dramatically, would I have changed my mind? Not just no. But. Hell no! I’m loving every minute and can’t believe how fast each episode seems to go. Would CBS ever consider a 2-hour Moonlight episode? I pray that fate will play a role in their decision.

I love that they are moving quickly with the relationship in this series, I think good writers can make a good show even if the main 2 are together, and with the wife comiong back soon they will have much to deal with. ( I get so bored with the relationships in the shows on now, they keep them apart so long that by the time they get them together you really don't care and it never is really very good because your expectations are so high, for example Bones, how many eps are people going to think they are a couple and other ridiculous stuff before they get toether, I am getting to the point where I just don't care) I loved the Mick and Beth parts and when she met Joseph, that was a great fun scene with the phone sex talk. I love that the teenage vamp storyline opens up the lines of communication and thought in the Mick/Beth storyline, which I think is what this ep was all about. I just can't believe I am loving a show this quickly, I think I am addicted, I can't wait for Friday's now to watch a television show, before I would never even have been home.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but what was with the huge windows in Mick's office, or Joseph's place for that matter. You'd think that if vampires didn't like the sun, then they wouldn't fill their places with sunlight by having huge windows open during broad daylight...

That was the only problem I had with this episode. That and the thought of being 17 forever, ugh...

I am so hooked on MOONLIGHT and each episode keeps getting better!!! I loved last week's "Fever" episode and tonight's was great too in the fact of the developing relationship between Mick and Beth. We also got to see more of Josef and how he and Mick interact with each other on a vampire and friendship level and more of the interesting detective storyline.

I did LOVE the way Beth through up her arm at the morgue and reminded Mick "I fed you!" AND I DEFINITELY LOVED the kiss part at the very end and the grin on his face as she is walking away. I like the fact that Beth goes after what she wants and doesn't mess around because I think Mick would hold back. Can't wait to see next week's episode!!! Keep them coming CBS!!!

As a long lost follower of Buffy and Angel I can finally sigh with relief for having Moonlight to turn to. It has been a very long time since a tantalizing, clever vampire show has been on the air. The electricity between Mick and Beth is deep and rich and the storyline is refreshing and interesting. My husband actually stays awake through the whole show. Although it has lower ratings I hope that CBS keeps it going. I think in the long run it will prove itself to be a wonderful escape from reality TV shows for all. Thanks for the great work!

Josef appears to have lots of capital and also seems to embrace technology. Lush digs and having his own private computergeek does support the idea that perhaps he has the means to purchase and install custom windows that are designed to block out whatever part of the light spectrum that is harmful to his kind.

Anyway, I had a great time with this episode. Watching Josef " stalk " Beth and seeing Mick run interference was a hoot !!

I agree that finding out Vampires are just enough like us to drop their keys was a great deal of fun, too !

Romance, edge of seat scares, pathos and clever dialog all add up to what I believe is superior entertainment.

My sincere wish is that the Network gives this one show a chance to grow a larger following.

Moonlight has gotten off to a slow start but is definitely improving. I hope CBS hangs in there with it and doesn't start shifting it around or kill it prematurely like they did with Viva Laughlin. Regarding this episode, I think Mick just jumped real high and did not fly. Beth will have a hard time choosing between Jose and Mick. They are both hot. Talk about an embarrassment of riches!

I really like this show and the chemistry between Mick and Beth is great and truly believable. The 'crime' aspect was a bit weak - not because there was a vampire feeding on hookers but because Mick seemed to be trying to 'save' him. That seemed silly - what was the 'kid' going to do, promise to go on a diet?
It seemed that Mick had only 2 choices: kill the kid or let him go to continue feeding on hookers. Not much choice, there... Just saying.

This show was amazing, i loved the roller coaster scene, the sex talk in the car, and meeting josef scene, but the best was the kiss,OMG i have watched it over and over, and it just gets better every time. I just hope CBS know's what a great show they have and keeps in on for a very long time.

'bout the only thing I can say is OMG!!!!!!! This episode has everything...and as for THE KISS HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD (or, at least the USA), it took everyone by surprise, Mick included! That was the best part, CBS never once tipped their hand that this was going to happen. How awesome is it that, in this age of full frontal nudity and free sex thrown in our faces via every media form, a quick kiss (Ok, two kisses) between these two protagonists has millions upon millions of viewers (granted, many of them women) swooning and acting like giddy twelve year olds? Hmmm? That, dear CBS, is the sign of true and skillful craftmenship. From the writing, to the directing, to the acting, to the chemistry between all of the characters (and you can't fake chemistry...the audience can tell if it's faked), this show ROCKS!!!!!! Now, for your homework assignment, fellow fans....every and I mean EVERY Moonlight fan must go to the CBS "Moonlight" website and use their link to tell them how much this show is loved and eagerly anticipated every week. Apparently, they are unaware that they have a
WINNER in their Friday night lineup with this show. I don't get it either...I guess you just have to draw pictures for some folks. They need to know about all of the fansites and all the chatter on the internet about this show. They need to know that the MoonlightFans.com website crashed last night because of the huge volume of traffic. They NEED to know, ok???? So let's get out there and tell them! The kiss was very good, I'll agree. But I must admit that I felt more like it was about time than I felt it was super sexy/hot.

I mean, really, how many hints does a girl have to give, anyway??

I liked the actor who played the Bad Teen Vamp, and I felt his pain. I especially felt bad for him when Mick kept saying he knew what he was going through. Huh? How?

He should have tried a better, more varied tack. But since it was clear BTV had to die, (he killed a human!), I guess Mick didn't have to try so hard.

I'd have to agree about the flying leap thing. I've already said that the writers severely limited themselves in the first episode by trying to overthink vampire lore. Use it or don't.

They seemed to want to make vampires more believable, or something, and now will have to backpeddle for however many more episodes the show has. I have a feeling we'll see more inconsistencies in future.

Good ep, though.

To Kelli: You're right -- both Alex O'Loughlin and Nic Cester are from Australia and Alex, at least, knows how to fake a passable American accent. However, I don't see how they remind you of each other, but to each their own.

This show really gets better! The fantastic surprise kisses at the end was brillant especially as they never let on! It was mind blowing. Lets say my replay was in over ride!
Beth is really cool, she is fresh and has an innocence that is really appealing to Mick. Loved it when she said "I fed you"
Congrats to CBS as this is the only show this season that really rocks my boat.

I have to say Moonlight is a fantastic series and I love the chemistry that exists in all the character's relationships. CBS has an excellent show here and I wish, hope and pray that they let it grace our TV screens for many seasons!

I was more confused as to why, after coming inside the Dr's building in broad daylight that Mick jumped out of the way of the sun trap on the floor and almost crashed into the woman with the baby - not that she minded!
Poor Josh knows his days are doomed bet that actor's already looking for work!
Again, why is the Alias camerman? When Beth's boss was lamenting the photo opportunity he should have been right there with his camera. First rule of journalism is to record the news, we don't make it. For such a pushy character it doesn't make sense Beth will suddenly turn coy over taking a photo because the escort didn't want one taken I mean really, the woman's all over the internet with her kit off - at least she would have been covered up for this photo!
If you're lame, I am too - I was totally jealous re the kiss, and the little grin at the end - Porn for Women!

Josef/Jason is also warming up to his role nicely and I don't know what happened since I started watching because of Jason but I am seriously being swayed my Alex's hottness wow I hope this show gets a full season!

I have loved every single episode of Moonlight!! This is my favorite show --- surpassing all my previous favorites. Mick is a dream ... I could stare at him for eternity. Beth is beautiful, so innocent looking, and sweet. The acting is superb. The storylines to me have been so great and exciting. They are giving us something in every episode to hang onto, but leaving us to just die having to wait a whole week for more Mick. I love Moonlight!

The pilot was just above my not-too-high expectations, but subsequent episodes got traction and now it's my most anticipated show every week. I didn't get my fix this last Friday. Hope the strike doesn't derail this excellent series.
