'Heroes': The gang's all here
The revelation that Sylar is alive, if not entirely well, in this week's Heroes was not exactly a revelation, thanks to the NBC promo department. You couldn't watch the network over the past five days without being assaulted with "America's favorite head-slicing creepshow is back!" promos.
So at that first glimpse of Zachary Quinto, lying on the beach with the redhead, I kind of shrugged. That would've been cooler had I not seen it 40 times already, I thought.
But then the show revealed where he actually was ...
(... digging into the hilt of my sword for a scroll full of spoilers ...)
... and that actually was pretty doggone cool. Sylar's return was among the high points of an episode in which you could feel the wheels of the season start to turn. Niki and Micah also rejoined the fray, HRG got some bad news, Hiro helped make a hero and Mohinder started to wonder just what it is he's gotten into. (Plus, Uhura.)
Let's start with Sylar, though. He is very much not dead, thanks to Michelle/Candice -- not to be confused with Candice Michelle -- who pulled him into the sewer after Hiro stabbed him in last season's finale. (The great thing about creating a shape-shifting character, by the way, is that when the actress who played her first gets a regular gig on another show, you can just cast someone else in the role.)
His keeper is still working for the Company, and we eventually learn that while maybe it's not Maui, the facility where Sylar is being held may just be on an island somewhere (around here, maybe?). And, owing to being run through with the sword, he's apparently lost his mojo, if not his bloodlust. Unable to get at Candice's brain telekinetically, he instead does it the old-fashioned way, figuring he can transport himself wherever. Except, not -- whatever allowed him to absorb other people's powers last season is apparently badly damaged, and absent those abilities, he's going to have a heck of a time getting back to civilization.
Our other returning player on Monday was Niki, who has taken Micah to New Orleans to live with, presumably, his grandmother. And yes, I think we can assume this fanboy-courting show has more than just one line in mind for Star Trek alumna Nichelle Nichols. (And, by the way, D.L. really is dead.) She, in turn, makes her way to New York and Company man Bob, hoping to be "cured." Bob, of course, wants something in return. There's not much to this particular thread yet, but at least it suggests an intersection of story lines somewhere down the line, and we're all for that if it allows for more tightly focused episodes in the future.
Bob has also been busy retrofitting Isaac's old studio into a lab for Mohinder, which in addition to helping recoup that set-building investment allows the professor to sneak off and search for the missing paintings. Contrivance? Heck yeah, and Mohinder sounded a little pathetic with his panicked, "this was a terrible idea" plea to HRG. But at least the payoff worked, introducing a new dynamic in the already complex father-daughter relationship between HRG and Claire. The look of puzzled fear on Jack Coleman's face as he saw his daughter through the blinds after looking in the picture was note-perfect.
As with last week, though, that moment only came after extensive time spent with Claire's tool of a new boyfriend, West. As written, he seems to have two powers: flight and the ability to grate on all those who meet him. And was anyone surprised, after seeing the hatch marks on his neck, that he'd have a story about an evil man with horn-rimmed glasses? (It's conceivable, I guess, that he didn't notice Claire's dad when he almost ran her down that day at school, but it still feels like a stretch that he wouldn't know about HRG's connection to her.)
Peter and Maya continued to use powers they don't fully understand in foreign lands, and that's about all. Peter's current story, especially, feels unnecessary; couldn't he just accio his box of identity and take off somewhere to read it?
Hiro is also off on his own, but at least his current story has the benefit of being wonderfully entertaining, as Masi Oka and David Anders are playing off each other marvelously, and Oka also does longing quite well. Loved how he figured out a way to keep connected to Ando in the present, but I am starting to wonder how what happens in 1671 will tie into the present-day story, and why his control over his powers seems so spotty. One minute he's zapping Kensei to the exact spot he needs to be, and the next he can't pop back into the present. I'd welcome your thoughts and theories on why that is in the comments.
In fact, I'll turn the whole thing over to you: Happy to have Sylar and Niki back on Heroes? Am I being too hard on West, and does Hiro need to do something more than reset history?
It's nice to see some storylines starting to heat up.
My take on Hiro's "I can't come back" line was not that he was unable to leave, but unwilling to do so, what with his new-found love and all.
Lisa | Oct 8, 2007 8:47:18 PM | #Agree with Lisa. It's not that he can't leave, it's that he doesn't want to (although at first I thought it was the other way too.)
I loved your Lost reference in regards to where Sylar is. That's EXACTLY the first thing I thought when I heard that. I mean, Parkman was the pilot that crashed Flight 817 on the island, maybe there's a connection there ;)
I still love this show, and am expecting big things from this season, but it really does feel like it's moving too slowly right now. I'd rather them focus the next few episodes on 1 or 2 storylines and eacy leave the rest for the following weeks.
Chris | Oct 8, 2007 9:07:26 PM | #Hey Rick, about the Maya and Alejandro story....maybe it's just me, but did anyone else think that the car they drove off in was Claire's car? It said something about the high school's mascot on the bumper sticker, and it was a Nissan.
Also I'm pretty sure that Hiro didn't teleport back because deep inside he loves the Yaeko or whatever her name is.
Could you imagine if they have sex? Maybe Hiro is an old descendant of himself?
I'm soooo confused on why Hiro was teleported into 1671 in the first place.
UGH, I really don't like Sylar. He never made sense to me. I'm still trying to get over the fact on how he managed to kill Eden (remember her?). Also what is his power? Is it that he can figure out how things work?
I'm also sad to see that Michelle/Candice/Betty (her real name) is a stupid idiot. Hello, what did you think he would try to do? I'm still hoping she was creating an illusion, although him seeing her true self makes me think she's really dead.
I hope Claire turns bad so I can finally have a good reason to start disliking her!
Bring on Veronica Mars already.
gus | Oct 8, 2007 10:01:28 PM | #Pretty good episode, but my concerns remain: Shoehorning 5-6 storylines into 45 minutes tends to dilute the story and the characters (speaking of characters, I think the cast is big enough, already). Ideally, each ep could focus on 3-4 characters and their stories could be better delineated. The way it is now, it's like getting only the highlights of each characters adventures. But to the show's credit, the multiple characters are handled pretty deftly, and the pacing is good. Just think that focusing on fewer characters each ep would allow for more in-depth character development and less fragmented storytelling.

Sorry, guess double-posting is one of my powers ...
Zero Wolf | Oct 9, 2007 1:03:15 AM | #Ugh I have to disagree with that Zero Wolf. The problem is the writers can't do an equal character distribution. They tend to give too much focus on Peter, Hiro, and Claire. That idea would have worked if the writers know when to stop writing for those 3 and start giving their full attention on other characters. At this point, the other characters can't even get decent screen time, so I don't want them to be left behind unseen for a couple episodes.
Nibehlung | Oct 9, 2007 1:27:14 AM | #Gus, Eden killed herself to prevent Sylar from acquiring her power. And good catch about Claire's car.
Rishi | Oct 9, 2007 2:20:33 AM | #I'm not so sure it's Claire's car seeing as she had a bigger SUV type vehicle...but the bumpersticker makes me think it could be the car of someone who goes to her high school. That would at least bring Maya and Alejandro into contact with the Bennetts.
daziz | Oct 9, 2007 2:55:30 AM | #Yeah, when is Veronica Mars coming on?!?
eahilber | Oct 9, 2007 3:16:00 AM | #daziz, it was Claire's car. HRG gave her a wine colored Nissan Rogue, which is exactly what the escapee drove away in.
Renee | Oct 9, 2007 4:06:45 AM | #I think I finally figured out the deeper reason behind Hiro's journey to the past and the introduction of Kensei. I am beginning to think that Kensei is the person responsible for the murders of the older heroes in the present. The murderer looks like he/she has the same body structure as David Anders and I thought when he signed on that he was supposed to be very, very old. Based on the beginning of the season, I thought this meant he was just way in the past, but perhaps his and Claire's powers mean they will live forever. Just a concept I am throwing out there.
Overall, excellent episode. There was a lot of characters in the episode, no doubt, but it was handled well. Except that Peter's refusal to look in the box is just irritating. I was actually starting to like the guy okay this season, and then he does something like this. Urgh!
Travis | Oct 9, 2007 6:18:55 AM | #I agree with some of the earlier comments about how fragmented the storytelling is in these first few episodes of the new season. What the writers need to focus on is tying the different stories together like they did last season, where they started with diverse, unconnected, stories that unified into one story.
Still hoping that Michelle (Candice? Betty?) was just using her powers to let Sylar think she was dead. Shapeshifting powers are so much fun.
Yossarian | Oct 9, 2007 6:34:12 AM | #Hey gang,
I do believe that was Claire's car. It had a "Conquistador" sticker on the back and the colors were the same as the cheerleaders uniforms that we saw in the first episode. I liked the pace of this episode and I also don't think Hiro is ready to go back to the future either. Good theory travis.
It's funny that HRG would be part of the 9? I thought it would be much older characters who actually started the company. HRG came onboard when it was already around. I thought this week we would see more of the Hatian since he was re-introduced.
Greg | Oct 9, 2007 6:53:31 AM | #The show is cooling down from its premiere, but as the people have said, the gears are in motion. The conclusion was a high note, but I can wait for everything else.
pakopako | Oct 9, 2007 7:13:08 AM | #Good catch on Claire's car, everyone. I was focused on the bumper sticker and figured it would have something to do with her, but didn't notice the actual car.
And Kristen Bell's first episode is scheduled for Oct. 22.
Rick | Oct 9, 2007 7:18:52 AM | #A little SAT questions for you: Lost is to Nikki and Paulo as Heroes is to (blank). Any guesses?
You got it, Peter and Maya! Ugh. Why are they there and am I supposed to care?
What do you think about Sylar's abilities being "taken" from him and given to Peter. Why would "The Company" (they need a better name, btw) do this? And why would they erase Peter's memory and set-up the Irish gang to take him?
I liked this episode better than the first two, I just wish they wouldn't beat us over the head with some of the storylines.
Sean | Oct 9, 2007 7:39:56 AM | #I think the reason Sylar has no powers is because he has the virus. Remember it robs their power. And the company is using him as a test subject.
scott | Oct 9, 2007 7:44:21 AM | #Sean - what makes you think that Sylars powers were given to Peter. Peter absorbed all those powers last season with the exception of the "shocking" ability.
Greg | Oct 9, 2007 8:16:57 AM | #Good catch on the car, I was also concentrating on the bumper sticker and couldn't put it together.
I didn't buy that Sylar could kill Michelle/Candice so easily. She seemed very resourceful previously and I would hate if she turned out to be such an idiot.
I also think Peter should just open the box. He worries he was a bad person, but he should also think of a family who could be missing him. I would be too curious not to look.
I think West maybe working for the Company and keeping an eye on Claire and HRG. It was all to convient that he wouldn't notice her dad in the parking lot that day. If I were to almost run a girl over, I would notice the father ready to beat me if I did.
Oh and awesome theory that Kensei could be the modern day killer. I am biased as I want David Anders around more, so I would like to see this happen. He does evil so well!
So far, I am withholding judgement on this season, but I am VERY disappointed with the Peter amnesia storyline. That's so soap opera. If Heroes is just going to be a soap with superpowers . . . no thanks.
Siansonea | Oct 9, 2007 8:29:45 AM | #What everyone else said, Hiro stayed because he wanted to, not because he couldn't go back. I also don't really care for the Maya and her brother storyline, just get on with it already. I like Peter (and he looks pretty hot this season), but it is irritating that he wouldn't open the box. Who wouldn't be curious. Question 1 - was it his godsend tatoo that disappeared when he kissed the Irish girl. Or was it the tatoo that she put on him? I looked away for a second and missed it. Question 2 - was that Clare and West in the painting showing Bennett dead? Couldn't quite tell, but I'm assuming yes.
Sue | Oct 9, 2007 8:42:02 AM | #More questions and questions. Open the freaking box Peter! Last year's big hero is going to be a crook and whats up with that blood lust he had for the guy from Enterprise?
sue, question about the tattoo, the Irish tattoo transformed into the godsend sign and then disappeared. I guess Claire's abilities don't allow one to get inked. Speaking of which, how does Claire have pierced ears?
Enough with the "wonder twins". They wouldn't actually kill HRG would they? But Isacc's paintings always come true, don't they?
Why kill D.L.? Parkman had more wounds in Kirby Plaza but healed up well.
I like Hiro's story line, because its entertaining. Will Hiro do the right thing or go after the girl?
jbw | Oct 9, 2007 9:26:27 AM | #Regarding Sylar, okay fine he's too good a villian to kill off. But why would the company want him alive. Further why put Sylar in an isolated location with Michelle/Candice? Wouldn't the company put him under lock and key and run tests.
jbw | Oct 9, 2007 9:29:32 AM | #heroes better do something fast, their not the rating powerhouse they use to be. Every week they are falling faster than Lindsay Lohams underwear.
john | Oct 9, 2007 9:40:35 AM | #I think the twins are there to kill the new baddie this season (before being killed themselves). New heroes will be introduced and killed off. We still have computer girl out there somewhere.
Isaac's paintings don't always come true - NYC is still intact. They'd better not kill of Noah. Love that guy!
xanana | Oct 9, 2007 9:57:17 AM | #To everyone who is getting way too impatient way too fast...we're only 3 episodes in. This show goes until May! Calm down people. The show is fantastic, last night's episode was great, just relax and enjoy it.
Aaron | Oct 9, 2007 10:01:36 AM | #Not a fan of the show, but read the blogs anyways. This show sound very unrealistic and corny. Is it really a hit. By reading these reviews it sounds like it would be better as a motion picture. To corny for tv.
roger ram. | Oct 9, 2007 10:38:51 AM | #So far I love this season as much as the last one. My only complaint is in with Maya and Alejandro. I'm bored with them since they do the same thing every episode. Get them to the U.S. already so we can get on with their story line
Osi | Oct 9, 2007 10:43:58 AM | #Hiro is enough for me to tune in while the season is getting its sea legs (and yes, he had a change of heart before zapping back to the present).
Here's my dream scenario: Maya kills West, lets Alejandro revive him, just so she can kill him again. Repeat ad nauseum or until we're satisfied with torturing that smug little twerp.
Hanhonymous | Oct 9, 2007 10:50:19 AM | #Computer girl = Hana. If you have been reading the comics online, you'll know that Hana is dead, but that she now exists in the data of the internet.
I think the show is great. Every episode is fantastic and it keeps getting better and better. Yes, there isn't a whole lot happening right now, but be patient folks, things are coming. We have a whole season to go!
Josh | Oct 9, 2007 11:03:57 AM | #Rick, how are you loving the Hiro storyline? I think next week I may start taking my bathroom breaks when Hiro's on. I'm so bored by this ancient Japan-making Kensei a hero storyline. And it's a shame too, because I really like Hiro.
Brian | Oct 9, 2007 11:23:36 AM | #First of all i would just like to say im a big heroes fan but that said this ep was the first time that i thought that the writers were just draging the storylines, first of all im sick of Maya and Alejandro all they do is run then maya kills ppl and cry and then Alejandro brings them bck to life and they run again. The peter amnesia story is soooo stupid, and im the one who defended this in the first ep blog but now i must say when he refused to open the box i wanted to throw something at my tv. far me actually the most intreasting part was Nikkis story which is weid as i thought she was the most useless character in the prev season.
zac | Oct 9, 2007 11:27:36 AM | #So is it wrong that I thing West is the most annoying person on the face of this earth. I like how the first thing Claire says to him after the night she cut her toe off is " I was painting my toenails". Ummm how about "What the hell were you doing peeping through my window at night you weird, disgusting little perfert!" Everytime it came back to her or the twins storyline I felt like throwing myself off a cliff.
Peter and Hiro would be more interesting to watch if they would just show their actions scenes all the time. Like when Hiro brought Kensei to the 90 samurai and then he just leaves. What's up with not even showing at least one swordfight? Also I hope their stories will find their way back to the main plot soon because it's looking like the writers don't even know what they're doing with it yet.
And I think we're going to realize that Sylar and Peter's power are very much related to their hearts... both physically and mentally.
Nate Dawg | Oct 9, 2007 11:55:13 AM | #Rishi: I know that Eden really killed herself, but that was once Sylar managed to use his telekinesis to draw her in (he was going to kill her). That's what I was confused about. The only thing I can come up with is that Eden was stupid enough to see him when the Haitian wasn't nearby? Bleh, I loved her powers.
I liked Michelle/Candace/Betty's power sooo much, but they were tooo confusing and an easy solution for some plots. For example, "Oh you thought this was happening, but syke, it was all an illusion." I could foresee that being used way too much. So I hope Sylar is not able to use it ever. That would kill me.
About the Irish box/Twins' storyline, calm down people! Think about it, that fact that he didn't open it infuriates you enough to CONTINUE WATCHING IT to see when he does (same thing with the twins).
AND, I remember being able to see the hooded killer's hand when he went to kill Kaito. That has to be a clue! Let's see if we can compare hands to form suspects. It seemed like a man's hand to me. Also I think there's more than one killer. I found it weird that the one that tried to kill Angela was invisible, but the one that killed Kaito wasn't. Veronica Mars is killer #2? Oh I think I ruined it for me.
As far as the HRG photo, I think they want us to think Claire killed him, when she really didn't. It'll help start some trust issues between them and make for a neat storyline. Eventually we'll see that there's another side to the photo (like when we saw Nathan as president when it was really Sylar).
I think Claire has pierced ears because she keeps them on, so that they prevent the hole from closing up.
gus | Oct 9, 2007 12:00:39 PM | #Well, for me, I'd rather see Peter's story than Hiro's story. Hiro's story is going NO WHERE. So, does he fall in love to every girl he meets now?? I find the whole helping Kensie thing is just silly.
As for Peter, at least we can see some cool power he's been experiencing, and get to see a little bit of Peter's darker side. And for the box, I can see the reason why he didn't want to open it. He almost killed a guy. He must be thinking maybe he was an evil person. I'd not want to that either.
Could we truly say that Candice/Michelle is dead? Even if she showed her true form, she seemed just soooooo much more cunning last season. I can't see why she would not take more care of herself around Sylar, especially knowing who he is and what kind of an appetite for power's he's got. Peter's storyline and how he decided not to open the box seems like a cheap device to extend a useless storyline further...shame. Meanwhile we got the two runners trying to make their way to the USA...Did anyone get annoyed how the kid just decided suddenly it would be a damn great idea to break into a car in a busy street in the middle of the day? Stupid...Hiro's story continues to be my favorite. Rock on Tensei.
Rigo | Oct 9, 2007 12:48:02 PM | #These blogs are all under the title "It Happened Last Night." Do we really need to begin every single one by saying "Spoilers ahead."?
Dee Dee | Oct 9, 2007 1:49:44 PM | #"Further why put Sylar in an isolated location...? Wouldn't the company put him under lock and key and run tests."
- They already tried that, remember? Isolated is better for Sylar.
Mitch | Oct 9, 2007 1:51:48 PM | #I think Peter's storyline will become more satisfying once we find out how he got into the shipping container in the first place. And is it amnesia, or was there some sort of intervention on the part of the Haitian that wiped out his sense of identity. His "I may not have my memory, but I'm not an idiot" type of line about European soccer clubs was kind of comical, because, well Americans pretty much ARE idiots when it comes to international soccer.
Must have been the drugs that caused Isaac Mendes to paint Moe Green's death scene from "The Godfather."
The Claire-West flight scene was far too cheesy.
It also occurred to me that David Anders' character may be killing the founders.
Goph | Oct 9, 2007 2:09:49 PM | #
Peter's storyline is an exercise in absurdity. It's all so incredibly contrived and ridiculous...everything from the gang's reaction to finding a demi-god in a cargo container, to Peter's handling of the gang, 'The Box', the love interest, the amnesia...everything.
Eric | Oct 9, 2007 2:14:51 PM | #Rigo - I had the same feeling about the wonder Twins. Really! Break into a car, in broad Daylight and while people are walking around. Give me a Break!
I like Peter more this season, especially now that he can call on his powers. But Peter wants to know what's in the Box? Peter doesn't want to know? Why because He meet a pretty girl. Really!
Speaking of the Girl, Does anyone else feel that she or her Brother may have powers?
About Eden, Sylar got a corrupted version of Eden’s power. I'm thinking he may also have gotten a virus and a corrupted copy of Michelle/Candice/Betty power, especially the due to the way she may have died. I don't get it about Betty. Like somebody said earlier she seems somewhat sly and could/should have done enough research to know about Sylar. So what gives?
Also what the deal with Matt & Suresh? Roomies?
Really!
To person who thinks that this would be better as a Movie. I think, Not!
Even with all of these questionable story arches. Heroes still Rocks! And CHUCK not bad either.
Good eye on the car thing. I thought it was just more clumsy force-fed product placements (Season 2, Ep. 1: "You got me a Rogue! You're the best dad ever!!!!) (This episode has been brought to you by Nissan Rogue!) So that was either a good call, or in this alternate universe EVERYONE drives Rogues, just like everyone on TV uses Macs, when in real life I don't know a soul who does.
| Oct 9, 2007 3:04:23 PM | #West is terrible. I really hope he gets clipped by a 747 or something, though last night when he scooped Claire up I half-expected to hear the "can you read my mind?" monologue from Superman.
I feel like they could have strung Sylar's return out a little longer, especially since Quinto is apparently going to be MIA for a month while filming the new Star Trek movie. Drag it out, don't reveal Candace's identity right away, make us wonder how he survived Kirby Plaza. Oh well, good to have him back nonetheless. And how awesome is it that the one guy who wants nothing more than to be special is now totally normal? Such pathos!
Rorschach | Oct 9, 2007 4:30:03 PM | #Sad to say I called DL's death. Not because of the injuries he sustained in last year's finale, but because he was the only main character from S1 -- besides the already dead Isaac and Simone -- that didn't do any press or get any spoilers. Hopefully there will be a flashback to explain what happened to him because I doubt it was just the bullet wound that did him in.
Jeff | Oct 9, 2007 4:43:30 PM | #Rex...
Maybe you are onto something with the possibility that Peter's new girlfriend and her brother possess powers. Since P
Goph | Oct 9, 2007 4:57:19 PM | #Oops. Since Peter absorbs the extraordinary powers of others around him, some of the traits we haven't seen yet (like the electric conduction and the "accio" abilities) may belong to the siblings, who are in no rush to show their cards.
Goph | Oct 9, 2007 4:59:39 PM | #Pardon me if I missed this in an earlier post, but didn't last night's episode reveal that Maya's power kills people, but Alejandro's power restores their life. His eyes got all funky while holding her hands and then the "dead" cops revived and the "dead" prisoner next door stood up and took them away in his CA plated car that apparently leads them to Claire and HRG.
I agree that I am getting tired of the "coming to America" storyline, but you have to admit that the she kills, he reanimates power combo sure beats "shape of a giant monkey, form of a snowball" crap from our beloved Wonder Twins of yore.
Also did anyone see the Beyonce Commercial? Is she going to be on the Show or what?
| Oct 9, 2007 7:10:15 PM | #I know maya and peter's storyline is annoying but did anybody notice her face when she was using her power, she had like an evil look. i am getting tired of claire.
michael | Oct 9, 2007 9:19:53 PM | #well, i'm interminably bored, and i didn't think heroes could ever do that to me.
everything does seem hokey. it's as if they're all just playing for time. nothing's happening!
i hate hiro's japanese sojourn. he's not that interesting without his sidekick, so that storyline is dead in the water for me.
i can't stand west either. the twins are just doing the same thing over and over, as someone said. even peter's robbery lacked any dramatic tension whatsoever. btw, how did they find out his name was peter? did he remember only his name?
it was just in the last 5 minutes that there was any sense of mystery at all...like there was in every single ep last year.
did anyone notice the black man standing behind nikki when she was talking to that company man. at first i thought it was dl, and then the haitian, but he's with claire's dad. so why was this out of focus guy stationed so prominently behind her?
KR | Oct 9, 2007 9:26:18 PM | #I too had the thoughts about Kensei being the killer but a friend of mine pointed out that it could be Peter or perhaps the 'dark' version of Peter since he could have absorbed Nikki's power. So far I have enjoyed this season. Though I didn't like the 'not-wanting-to-see-the -box' Peter part. One thing though that is a bit weird it seems like two weeks in a row the storyline of Heroes had something that happened in real life. Last week with Momma Petrelli dying in Police custody and this week with the Armored car robbery.
Anthony | Oct 9, 2007 9:34:50 PM | #I enjoy the show, it's fun, I look forward to it every week, and I am not the type to be disappointed when it's over like I'm expecting a masterpiece each week or something. A couple things -1) Momma Petrelli was attached, but she didn't die in police custody; 2) The twins, they didn't steal the car in broad daylignt, the other guy in jail had already stolen it (maybe from Clare according to people here) and he said "I have a car" and they got in it - I agree thought that they have to get on with that story line; 3) I like Peter, things will play out, let's see what happens 4) Clair and West are teenagers, they're not that bad (but the flying scene was right out of Superman 1); 5) Suresh and Matt are roomies to protect Molly 6) Product placement doesn't bother me, they have to make money to air these shows and with TiVo and everything they have to find some way to appease advertisers (plus, I'd rather watch a character drinking a Coke, which does happen in real life, than watch a whole commercial about it; 7) finally, they have to announce "spoilers ahead" in these blogs because in the past some people, who must not be quick on the uptake, complained that there were spoilers in the blog with no warning.
Sue | Oct 10, 2007 7:27:31 AM | #As much as I want to love this show, I can't watch it anymore. Writing is horrendously bad. Too many loose ends, plot holes, contrivances, soap-opera plotting and pacing, and 'things that only happen in TV land'. We could have tight, gritty show about super-powered humans. Instead we get episodes written by Regis Philbin's daughter who used to write for the OC.
Not to be too hard on JJ, but shouldn't they be looking elsewhere for writers for this genre?
Dylan | Oct 10, 2007 10:11:42 AM | #Does anyone else have the feeling that Kensei (Sark, can we call him Sark?)is going to end up being the... killer in the present?
He can live forever.
He kills Hiro's dad (by falling off the roof with him, so he could just get back up) and his sign is no the pictures. Come on, I got something cooking here...
Caleb | Oct 10, 2007 11:38:11 AM | #i agree with the theory that the kiler could be Kensei. Just like Wolverine, his healing power could practically make him immortal, although its strange that he wouldn't have discovered this healing power sooner. Could someone just run over the wonder twins already? They are worse than Nikki and Paulo! At least Nikki was freaking hot. I wish they'd hurry up and move Peter's story along. There better be some kind of payoff to it other than him getting the luck of the Irish with the chick.
steve | Oct 12, 2007 9:45:52 AM | #In response to, "how did the Irish gang know his name was Peter", I got the impression that they had looked in the box and got his name when he first showed the box to Peter. I'd like th Hiro story better if it turned out that he was really Kensei, like it started to look an episode ago. I like Nikki and liked her last season, her character brings some "real life" type drama. I was also skeptical when I saw JJ Philbin as producer/writer on the show, my wife had me watching the OC with her and that was rough. I'm annoyed with Claire that she didn't just go off on West for being in her window, that's really creepy. I also was thinking the same thing about her pierced ears, not the earings themself, but I noticed her left ear had a piercing hole with no earing, that's a nice goof right there. I'm really just looking forward to more of Nikki and HRG, he's the best part of the show.
Ken | Oct 15, 2007 5:21:30 AM | #Right ear had the piercing hole, sorry.
Ken | Oct 15, 2007 5:22:29 AM | #i still love this show but i can't wait for sweeps! i was kinda upset Sylar killed Candice because as we saw in "5 years later" that power will be deadly in the hands of Sylar. Oka is such a great actor and i love him on this show!!!
I'm very upset DL died. That was out of tbe blue. If u are gonna kill someone off u better milk it for the dramatic effect.
West is annoying and i guess Claire is desperate to have any friend. I really hope that painting dont come true. It makes me think they're writing into stereotypes: that a teenager will definitely pick their boyfriend over their parent no matter what.
