'Beauty and the Geek': A player emerges
I hadn't been feeling Beauty & the Geek this season, what with Sam the actor as the first male beauty and Hollie's premature elimination last episode. I just haven't been having any fun or connecting with any of the characters. Well, at least the latter happened for me tonight (Oct.9).
Spoilers ahead.
Let's set the stage. Sam and Rebecca have been hooking up all over the place, but they decide to take their relationship to the next level: the level of his top bunk. Classy. Unfortunately, his partner Nicole is in the bottom bunk and wakes to hear making out noises and odd squeaks from overhead.
She leaves crying, and has to set up a makeshift bed with the papasan chair cushion as her blanket. Okay, that's just pitiful. At first I wasn't certain why she was so distraught, but she did say she had problems dealing with uncomfortable social situations. Sam recognizes that she's upset, but doesn't bother apologizing as far as I saw. Not cool.
Strangely enough, I wasn't too sympathetic when Rebecca was crying. But more on that later.
The big concept this week is to let America vote on past challenges for the beauties and geeks to perform this season. The geeks land the massage challenge, and Jesse wins, despite Will's leg up from his partner Rebecca, the massage therapist, and Dave's experience massaging his mom (Ewww). The beauties have to build model rockets, and even though Sam had a premature escalation, he's able to reassemble the thing and shoot off first. How considerate.
There was also some crazy maneuvering and serious ill will going on this episode. Winning both the challenges last week painted a target on Will and Rebecca, and that was exacerbated by selecting the vengeance-minded Erin for elimination. When she returns and has the power (when her partner Jesse won the massage challenge), it's a foregone conclusion who's going to the little room with the numbered questions this week.
Here's the absolute best part: Nicole, with brains extraordinaire, plays her own strategy game against her partner Sam. Knowing that they have to select a team to go up against Sam's best girl Rebecca, Nicole suggests Jen and William. She claims it's because she thinks they're weak (thus guaranteeing Rebecca staying), but secretly she feels that they can take on and beat Rebecca and Will.
You know what? She's right. Maybe Jen and William are really some tough competition, but Rebecca boo-hooing the whole time she should have been studying was detrimental, not to mention annoying. She's just a tad emotional. When she loses, she's not in her right mind and even questions if Sam played her since he elected her competitors.
So, the true victors aren't Jen and William, it was Nicole, who overcame a bad and inconsiderate partner and changed the way the game would be played.
What do you think about the Will/Rebecca witch hunt? Do you think Sam and Nicole will last longer since they'll be targeted now?

Man I got new respect for Nicole, that was straight ruthless. Love it! I was glad to see that team go, Rebecca is effing bologna!
How did the producers know what challenge came out to be America's favorite? Hasn't the show already completed filming? I'm ***uming this challenge occurred months ago....So when were they able to view the results of the vote?
And seriously, Nicole's strategy was still based on some luck. How could she possibly know how they would do in the questioning room? A better strategy would be to have Sam continue distracting Rebecca from studying (hey, why don't you and Sam take these last moments to bond more, instead of studying?). The real winners if you ask me is not Nicole, but Jen because we finally get to hear more than one word from her! So far she's my favorite. Quiet but deadl...oh nevermind that. She seems very laid back and super fit!
I am SO glad Will and Rebecca are gone! While I've been finding it hard to find a team to like this season, I knew right away that I wanted Will and Rebecca to leave NOW!! As of today, I love Nicole!
Well, I'm bummed that Will won't get a makeover, because he sure needs one. It just goes to show, if you're going to be a power player in the game, you'd better have allies to back you up. Will didn't play the social game very well, neither did Rebecca. And Rebecca's "it's not fair" comment after she lost her challenge did nothing to endear me to her either. It was the essence of fair.
Can't wait for the Geekovers! That's always my favorite episode.
@ Siansonea
Yup, geekovers! That's up there with the ANTM makeovers where some girl cries about cutting her hair!
Good strategic move by Nicole. But lets face it. Will & Rebecca missed all their questions. Any team could have beaten them with just 1 correct answer.
Jasmine & Dave are not a likeable team. But they are really flying under the radar. Just like Megan & Scooter from last season.
Agree that Nicole played Sam
like a Fiddle ! He -deserved it- Big Time ! There is another "Player" - Jen !
She could be another Megan !
Last Natalie is also one to
go to the Final 4 ! pairings !
As to Rebecca - read posts
that she has 2 Kids ! well
if she does then -she sure
kept herself in shape - A -
& - B - that she also was an
exotic dancer [ stripper ]at
one time and -not- the waitress -said on her show Bio. ! Gee nowadays -you just
never "know' ! haha
1st "Mom" on the show !
the Promos said the show evolved ! well for sure ! haha
I don't know if Jen is another Megan. Jen actually looks like she could be smart. Megan never appeared smart to me. Megan also never went to the elimination room so I don't know if she would have been able to keep calm & focused.
Well from the episode 1 promo, you could tell who makes it all the way to the Final 3.
Whatever happened with the news of Sam being an actor? Is he playing a part or himself? In any regard, he showed himself to be a world cl*** jerk when he didn't make any attempt to talk to Nicole after she left the bedroom (even Rebecca sensed that she was upset). It was a smart move of Nicole to put up a smarter team against Rebecca and Will, who did seem to be coming off as a strong player, although HIS social skills also needed a bit of training.
The Rebecca crying scenes prior to elimination seemed a bit forced ('No, don't get anyone', 'No one wants to help me', etc) as if she wanted the attention. As was mentioned, she should have tried to get herself together to study for the elimination.
Those mom-m***aging references by Dave were just too creepy. Can anyone say 'Norman Bates'?
