Needless to say, it's not a good time to be Joe Tobin right now -- but Scott says he's having a wonderful time playing the character. He and "Damages" co-creators Todd and Glenn Kessler spoke Tuesday about the story-telling changeup, Joe's state of mind and what's coming up.
No time-jumps Glenn Kessler: "For most of the series so far, we've really made a commitment to moving through time ... and we thought it might be interesting to try a new conceit -- one episode that really took place in four hours. ... We thought it might be an interesting way to condense time and play with time in a different way. It was trying to bring the immediacy and the urgency of what the quote-unquote bad guys were up to and making it a footrace for Patty and her team to discover."
The book on Joe Tobin Scott: "It's definitely changed, because all of the circumstances are changed, and you literally get to learn more about him as you go along. It would be nice to say ... that the conflicted man you watched in the first three, and relatively immature man, continues to kind of learn in a moral and spiritual way, but he doesn't. [Laughs] That's all I'm going to say. The great thing about 'Damages' is that bad is good and good is bad. ... When the guys first talked to me about Joe, he was going to be one of the perfect examples of that. He starts off as a relatively unknowing and innocent character, but because of his relationships and because of his desires, he becomes something else."
Has Joe been sheltered most of his life? Scott: "No doubt about it. ... [The creators] are very good about asking, 'What do you want to do?,' and my only answer was, 'I want to do what I haven't done before. One of the ways I described that to them was that I want to be somebody who's not that -- and I have to be careful here. Joe's not dumb, and he's not not with the program, but he's not necessarily quick, he's not necessarily sharp. And I often play those kinds of characters, who already know the end of their sentence before they started. That is not Joe, and that really fascinated me, and in fact was pretty difficult to act, because usually my kind of default setting ... is to be sharp and kind of on top of it. ...
"And then you mix that up with Lily [Tomlin, who plays Joe's mother] and Marty [Short, as Tobin's lawyer], who seem to know more than they're telling, it makes for a good group together in the same room."
What's coming Todd Kessler: "As is typical with 'Damages,' things really start heating up at this point. [Episode 4] is a big Joe and Louis Tobin [Len Cariou] episode ... and there is a big bomb dropped in this fourth episode. Story-wise, there is something that happens that is irreversible and will absolutely shift the focus of the story moving forward in next week's episode."
Danielle's role Todd Kessler: "She plays a significant role -- how she connects to the family, and there are characters we haven't met yet that she has a direct influence on. If you think of the first season with the character of Katie Connor ... Patty is very good at following threads and pulling a thread to unravel a whole tapestry. So Danielle is very much a thread that will be pulled. We're thrilled with Madchen Amick's performance, so I think you'll be very satisfied with how her role in the show ... is not taken lightly."

ABC tells Zap2it that former "Beverly Hills, 90210" actor, Daniel Cosgrove, has signed on to play young William Walker.
We knew that William Walker, the man who is pretty much behind most of the present drama on the show, would have to be a particularly special casting. He'd have to be dashing enough to grab Nora's heart and pick up a few extras along the way like Holly and Ryan's mother.
We can now say, bravo, ABC.
Cosgrove is best known for his role on "Beverly Hills, 90210" and his off-again-on-again relationship with Jennie Garth's Kelly Taylor. He also had quite a stint on "Guiding Light" as Bill Lewis. He has guest starred on other ABC Shows, "The Forgotten" and "Dirty Sexy Money," as well as CBS' "The Good Wife."
Other confirmed castings include Walker matriarch, Nora, whose younger self will be played by Lauren Bittner. Bittner has appeared on NBC's "The Black Donnellys." Kasey Campbell, who has been in a few episodes of Showtime's "Weeds," will play Young Kevin.

Bode Miller: In 2006, the free-spirited downhill skier had signature video games and was one of NBC's pre-ordained stars of the Turin games. Then he talked about skiing while "wasted" on "60 Minutes," flamed out in the competition and chewed up and spit out by the sports hype machine. Watch for a redemption-themed storyline this time around. Apolo Ohno: Ohno made his name by winning five short-track medals in the '02 and '06 Olympics. In 2007, he added the "Dancing with the Stars" mirror-ball trophy to his collection, winning the ABC show's fourth season with partner Julianne Hough. He's also done numerous commercials.
Angela Ruggiero: She's the all-time leader in games played for the U.S. women's hockey team and is competing in her fourth Olympics this year. But if you're not a hockey fan, you may recognize the Harvard grad from her time competing on the sixth season of "The Apprentice." She was voted onto the show by viewers following the 2006 Olympics and finished ninth.
Louie Vito: Vito is the rare athlete to get massive exposure before his first Olympics. He competed on "Dancing with the Stars" last fall and lasted until week six. The snowboarder made the Olympic half-pipe team in January. Lindsey Vonn: Vonn has been tearing up the alpine skiing circuit all season and is a gold-medal favorite in Vancouver. She's also been the focus of some controversy in the past couple of weeks for a glammed-up Sports Illustrated cover -- which will probably intensify when the magazine's annual swimsuit issue, which features her and several other Olympic athletes posing in bikinis -- hits newsstands his week.
Johnny Weir: The only men's figure skater in Vancouver with his own reality show -- "Be Good Johnny Weir," which airs on the Sundance Channel -- Weir will be competing in his second Olympics. Weir is never shy about sharing his thoughts, which makes for good television. He's also the subject of a documentary film, "Pop Star on Ice."
Shaun White: White is pretty much the Michael Jordan of snowboarding, and his dominance of the halfpipe -- he's the defending men's gold medalist and has more than a dozen X Games gold medals -- has translated to endorsements with Target, HP and Red Bull in addition to a bunch of companies related to his sport. He'll once again be one of the faces of the Olympics.

We also love her in period gear in films such as "Nicholas Nickleby," "Brokeback Mountain" and "Becoming Jane."
"The Devil Wears Prada" showed she could hold her own opposite the accomplished Meryl Streep, and she finally got a little recognition with an Oscar nomination for "Rachel Getting Married" and a Hasty Pudding award for Harvard. We can't wait to see her as the creepy White Queen in the upcoming "Alice in Wonderland."
Her co-star Topher Grace had the luck of a hit show on his first time out. He was discovered by one the "That '70s Show" producers while acting in a local production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."
Since leaving "That '70s Show," Grace has focused on his movie career, starring in Steven Soderbergh's ensemble film "Traffic," "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton," "In Good Company" and as the villainous Venom in "Spider-Man 3."
In a way, "Valentine's Day" is a "That '70s Show" reunion. He and Ashton Kutcher, who starred as the dimwitted Michael Kelso on the series, are both in the film, although in different storylines. You can see them both together, however, in this clip below:
In the film, Grace plays mail room worker Jason, who's just begun a very promising relationship with Liz, a who works as a phone sex operator to pay off her student loans. Hmm, we wonder if that little tidbit will come out during their dating.

Ryan asks Ellen about the group this year. She says they have a couple good rockers and a "great eclectic group of people."
She also says one of the hardest things is the kids who have never really auditioned before. They didn't grow up in show business, so hearing criticism is a "harsh taste of reality."
"You can't teach them experience. Hopefully the people we've put through learn very quickly to gain that kind of confidence that usually only comes from experience."
"That's one thing I bring to the show. I know what it feels like to stand on stage and try to impress a room full of people. I want them to hear the truth ... to get good advice but at the same time I'm careful to not hurt their feelings."
"I want to be really, really honest and sometimes the best way for me to be honest is to use humor. I'm going to try to cushion it with humor without belittling the situation."

For us personally, we feel like Tenley sincerely just wants love and stuff, whereas Ali would be more entertaining to watch. It's kind of a toss up.
UPDATE: Reality Steve is now saying that unless Ali turns it down, she is going to be the next Bachelorette, though nothing is signed or official. He's been right so far -- is he right about this?

herine Heigl is about to take on one of the most beloved characters in contemporary fiction.
The "Grey's Anatomy" star has signed on for the lead in "One for the Money," Columbia Pictures' film adaptation of the first book in Janet Evanovich's popular series, reports Variety.
Heigl will play Stephanie Plum, a recently unemployed lingerie buyer who turns to bounty hunting for a living. The spunky bounty hunter is single, owns a pet hamster and often relies on her family to help her with her job. The book series is rather extensive, so it's possible the franchise could be extended for several films, depending on "One's" reception.
The character in the books is often described as having brown hair, so it's a possibility that Heigl may have to dye her dirty blonde 'do. Reese Witherspoon had been previously attached to play the lead, and there had been buzz about Sandra Bullock or Anne Hathaway taking the plum role.

- Tim Robbins will get political with the upcoming "Green Lantern" film at Warner Bros. says THR's Heat Vision blog. He'll play Senator Hammond, the father of Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), a villain who takes on psychic powers. Ryan Reynolds stars as the titular DC Comics hero, and Blake Lively plays his love interest.
- Amber Tamblyn will star opposite James Franco in Danny Boyle's "127 Hours." According to Deadline Hollywood, she'll play the girlfriend of mountaineer Aron Ralston (Franco), who had to amputate his own limb and then scale down a mountain after getting pinned under a boulder during a climb. Based on a true story.
- Cate Blanchett has signed on for "Hanna," directed by "Atonement's" Joe Wright. The film stars Saoirse Ronan as a 14-year-old who's been raised to be a killer by her dad and then connects with a gentle French family.
- Steven Soderbergh's thriller "Contagion," about a viral outbreak, has attracted big-name stars, including Matt Damon and Jude Law. Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard are also being courted for the film.

Jack Bauer could be headed to the big screen.
FOX's "24" has taken steps to get the movie treatment, beginning with a script by "State of Play's" Billy Ray, reports Variety.
The pitched story places Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in Europe, where he will presumably save a dignitary or the world while racing against the clock.
So far, there's no indication how the real-time clock countdown would work on the big screen or how long the proposed film would be.
Don't get too excited just yet though. Having "24" playing at a theater near you is still contingent on a number of factors, including whether or not the series is picked up for another season at FOX or even another network. Considering all that goes into production, it's not really practical to do a movie while the series is still running.
"24" is currently in its eighth season, set in New York.

Brees appeared on the "Late Show" Monday night (Feb. 8) to discuss the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl XLIV victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
David Letterman was his usual dry-humored self, but it was apparent how much respect he had for Brees and the team, wearing a black and gold tie and suspenders set. Go, Dave!
We also get a peek at the Sports Illustrated cover of Drew Brees holding up his adorable son Baylen in celebration of the Saints win. We wish Baylen could have been on the show too.
"Brothers & Sisters" is really ramping up its castings for the two hour flashback episode airing on Sun., April 11 at 9pm on ABC.
Angela Ruggiero: She's the all-time leader in games played for the U.S. women's hockey team and is competing in her fourth Olympics this year. But if you're not a hockey fan, you may recognize the Harvard grad from her time competing on the sixth season of "The Apprentice." She was voted onto the show by viewers following the 2006 Olympics and finished ninth.
