'The Vampire Diaries' spoilers: Will Katherine's secret plan get busted?
The 500-year-old vampire successfully took over Elena's body permanently, and none of Elena's friends have any clue that the girl they're hanging out with isn't actually their friend (except for the compelled and threatened Matt ... poor Matty Blue Eyes). She broke things off with Damon and is doing her best to get closer with Stefan. Could Katherine really pull off the body switcheroo with no complications?
It doesn't look like it, based off of the first look photos The CW just released for the next two new episodes of "The Vampire Diaries."
In "No Exit," airing Feb. 27, Matt enlists Caroline and Tyler's help to protect Elena after a "heart-to-heart" with Nadia, leading to a violent confrontation between Caroline and Nadia:
But it looks like Nadia gets the upper hand:
And when Stefan tries to comfort a dejected Caroline after the showdown, their conversation leads to a "horrifying realization." Will Stefan and Caroline figure out that Elena isn't really Elena, just like they figured out that Elena was sired to Damon? These two certainly have a history of discovering the truth about their mutual friend.
In the next episode, "Gone Girl," airing Feb. 6, while we'll get to see flashbacks to Nadia's centuries-long search for her mother, it looks like Katherine's number is up since Stefan, Caroline and Matt "come up with a desperate new plan to save Elena's life." Based on this photo of a showdown between everyone vs. Katherine, it seems like her lies are finally exposed:
Bonnie and Jeremy then enlist the help of fledgling witch Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) again. Does Bonnie have a witchy solution to undo the Traveler spell that sealed Katherine in Elena's body? Whatever happens next, it causes Bonnie to learn "a terrifying secret that will threaten the lives of all her friends." Uh oh. Does Katherine know something important?
"The Vampire Diaries" returns on Thursday (Feb. 27) at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
