'SNL's' Seth Meyers preps for his final 'Weekend Update'
Seth Meyers' eight seasons of anchoring "Saturday Night Live's" "Weekend Update" ends Saturday (Feb. 1), and he tells Zap2it he doesn't think he could top Bill Hader's fabulous exit.
"It's hard to believe I would have a better send-off than Stefon's wedding last year," he says of Hader's "city correspondent" character running off to marry Anderson Cooper.
He also liked his former "Update" co-anchor Amy Poehler's exit with Fred Armisen as former New York Gov. David Paterson.
As Meyers switches gears from being a head writer and the longest tenured "Weekly Update" anchor to hosting his own show, "Late Night with Seth Meyers," he reflects on the only job he had on TV -- except for appearing once on "Spin City."
"There's no white whale sketch I never got to," he says. "I have no regrets."
It was the quiet before the final crush when Meyers spoke with Zap2it Monday (Jan. 27). Planning Saturday's show would start a little later in the week.
"There is more planning who gets my nice office upstairs," Meyers says.
Talking from his new 30 Rock office for "Late Night," which starts Monday, Feb. 24, Meyers was just a few floors downstairs from his "SNL" office. He says he's emotional, but trying to balance a lot this week.
As far as his final goodbye, would it be possible for a parade of former "Weekend
Update" anchors to stop by?
Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Norm Macdonald, Colin Quinn, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler all did stints behind the desk, and it's not outside the realm of possibility that they stop by.
"There's always a chance for a cameo," Meyers says. "I don't know yet. With all things 'SNL,' if you think too much or say anything on Monday or Tuesday, it's a jinx. With 'Update,' I have to be flexible to doing it later in the week."
As his final week after 12 1/2 years on 'SNL' gears up, Meyers says,"It feels a little like I am planning my own funeral."
