'Biggest Loser' Olympics episode first look: Apolo Ohno recalls 'second chances'
Apolo Ohno and Lolo Jones are giving tonight's episode of "The Biggest Loser" a hefty dose of the Olympian spirit. In an exclusive clip courtesy of Zap2it, Ohno gives the players a pep talk to encourage them for this week's trials.
Eight-time medalist Ohno reminds the contestants that when he was 14-years-old he was No. 1 in the United States, and the following year he finished dead last at the Olympic trials. "In less than a year, everything kind of crumbled, fell apart," he says.
But his father pushed him to keep going, and he did, to great success.
"I know that you guys's season's all about second chances," Ohno says. "[My father] said, 'Look, Apolo. You have a decision to make. One, you can continue on this path of kind of going through the motions and not really putting forth the effort needed to reach success.' Or two, I could give the sport a second chance. So I decided to choose the sport of speed skating obviously I'm here standing today because I think I made the right decision."
Tuesday's (Jan. 14) episode of "The Biggest Loser" sends the players to Utah Olympic Park to meet Ohno, Jones and USA Curling team members Jessica Schultz, Debbie McCormick and Ann Swisshelm. The contestants work out inside the Olympic Oval arena and compete in a curling competition. This week's challenge asks the competitors to run more than a mile up the bobsled track.
"The Biggest Loser" airs Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
